Jeter to remain on the shelf

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Apr 11, 2008 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Brian Cashman was WEEI in Boston today and said that Derek Jeter would likely not play until the Yankees get to Tampa.

Given how cold it is here and the probability of rain, that makes sense.

No word on yet on Jorge Posada’s status. If he can throw, he could catch at some point this weekend.

smart decisions finally I wouldn’t play Jetes either

  2. Hugh April 11th, 2008 at 3:15 pm

no reason to play any player thats hurting in april.

  3. Drew April 11th, 2008 at 3:16 pm

I agree, smart move. We still have 149 games left after this weekend.

As much as I would like to see Derek back in the line-up it does make sense to wait until Monday when the Yanks are in a dome. Don’t want to risk further injury although it seems as though he must be improving. Last night he was on the bench instead of getting treatment in the clubhouse.

Whats the weather looking like in beantown?

That is the smart thing to do. Let him rest during the weekend in the cold winter and come back when he is ready to go. No reason to rush him in April. Arod better watch his hands since they cant hit Jeter, Arod will likey be hit. Likely candidates Matsuzaka, Timlin, Tavarez, Papelbum, Labtops.

Raining now, and will rain through tonight. Hard to tell, but it doesn’t look good.

Tomorrow afternoon, they should get the game in if the outfield isn’t too mushy.

Sunday’s game looks like a go.

No rush on Posada. Molina’s doing fine in his place.

you know jeter would have talked torre into letting him play- look at last year; if he had taken some time off his leg problems may not have lingered as long as they did.

im just north of boston on 128 (i-95) – cloudy, not as windy as before, kind of gray – might get it in, might not.

  12. Paul April 11th, 2008 at 3:26 pm

Wind blowing from first to third at 10 mph…showers and 47 degrees all afternoon and evening

Watching espn and they are talking about people buying baseball team earns(dont know if its spelled right). They sold 4000 last year. They havnt came out with caskets yet but its coming. They showed a Yankee fan with a yankee earn. Makes you think for a second.

Probably a good idea to hold Jeter up until they’re in warmer weather. Or at least a dome. Gonzalez is doing a nice job filling in at short for the time being.
What’s the weather like in Boston?

  15. JDnotDrew April 11th, 2008 at 3:28 pm

    Paul,
Thats the exact one that the Yankee had. He looked to be in his late 30′s

  19. Blargh April 11th, 2008 at 3:35 pm

    Urns

And I’m kinda disturbed by the idea of team urns

  20. mel April 11th, 2008 at 3:42 pm

    Blargh,

The urns don’t bother me, but the caskets kill me.

Shot in the dark attempt at lineup:

    Damon LF
    Cabrera CF
    Abreu RF
    Rodriguez 3B
    Posada DH
    Giambi 1B
    Molina C
    Cano 2B
    Gonzales SS

  21. Fran April 11th, 2008 at 3:51 pm

The line-up is out. I just missed it on M&MD. All I heard was Gonzales batting 9th.

  22. saucY April 11th, 2008 at 4:12 pm

mel – i wouldn’t change a thing today. my entry = same as yours

  23. Ryan April 11th, 2008 at 4:17 pm

What was wrong with Po anyway to cause his dead arm? Structurally was there any problem? Thanks and sorry if I missed this earlier…

  24. snowmanny April 11th, 2008 at 4:30 pm

Got to agree. Games in April don’t count in September.

Can someone tell me what WEEI is?

  26. LadyBug626 April 12th, 2008 at 12:51 am

WEEI is a Boston sports radio station

  27. ryanloghry April 12th, 2008 at 9:09 pm

Thanks Ladybug. I assumed it was an acronym for some kind of stat.
