Shipping off to Boston

041108_00401.jpgMuch to my surprise (and relief) my American Airlines flight from Kansas City to Boston via Chicago was not canceled.

In fact, we landed right on time.

But my travels were not without an amusing few moments.

Because my flight was at 6:30 a.m., I checked into the Kansas City Airport Marriott after the game last night. The clerk gave me my key and I went to the room.

Turns out I had the greatest room in the hotel. It was a four-room suite. There was a huge living room, a dining room with a wet bar, a bathroom with two sinks, a whirlpool shower and a bidet and a bedroom with a 42-inch flat-screen television.

It was quite lovely. Too bad I was there for four hours.

    Are you havin’ a laugh?

According to this The only player on the Yanks that is better than his Sox counterpart is Jeter over Lugo.

Well, at least if you’re ever vacationing in the Kansas City area, you know a good place to stay.

“According to this The only player on the Yanks that is better than his Sox counterpart is Jeter over Lugo.”

Well that’s based on what the fans think. Any logical person knows the truth

    Jorge > Varitek
    Alex > Lowell
    Jeter > Lugo
    Cano > Pedroia
    Abreu > Drew

They’re better at first, left and DH.

    I’ll take Melky over Crisp.

    @Jimmy 27

Linking to a Boston.com poll? Really?

  13. Drive 4-5 April 11th, 2008 at 3:29 pm

The Sox have an adavantage over the Yanks in left field, first base and DH and that’s it. Both teams have questions on their starting pitching staffs. If the Yanks bullpen keeps pitching as well as it has been, they are at least even.

  14. Tseng April 11th, 2008 at 3:33 pm

    Drive,

Advantage at first base? Youk got moved to third, I’d say first base is about even. And advantage in DH? Ortiz is like, 3 for 40 or something. He’s absolutely killing my fantasy team. (I did not voluntarily draft him)

Wow, nice digs Pete. The bidet was just icing on the cake, huh? LOL

Hopefully there’s no eventual punchline to scoring such a nice suite.

Oh I know that dilemma! I went to Hong Kong oh so many years (decades?) ago to work on a computer problem. I arrived in the middle of the night and went straight to work. (The joke about my job at the time was we kept vampire’s hours, can’t work on the computer network when the customer needs it.) Well, long story short I found the problem in 20 minutes, went to the hotel room. (The Peninsula Hotel, a 5 star hotel usually in the top 10 of T&L.) Because of schedules and airline I had to catch the first flight out at 07:00. Worst part of the trip, I spent more time sitting on the tarmac (5 hours! Not the airport but stuck on the airplane sitting in the seat) then I spent in the hotel room.

    Tseng,

I’m basing my opinion on more than the 10 games played this season. Looking at the bigger picture, I can comfortably stand by what I said.

Speaking of fantasy baseball, I have Jeter and Posada. Not only that, but I thought Giambi looked so good in ST that I picked him as my DH. To make matters even worse, I picked Damon at the utility slot. To same I’m getting killed is putting it nicely.

  18. saucY April 11th, 2008 at 3:59 pm

thanks for linking to that poll. rs fans are more delusional than i thought

and i agree with Drive 4-5

  19. G. Love April 11th, 2008 at 4:05 pm

If Jim “the anvil” Neidhard aka the chin aka Youkilis is at 3rd base, then the Yanks have the 1b advantage. The Giambi/Ensberg platoon trumps Sean Casey in my opinion.

Red Sox have huge advantages at LF and DH like we have a huge advantage at 3b.

What’s interesting is if you try to rank the position players on both teams combined.

I’d love to see what some of you come up with.

Arod would be first and some combination of Manny and Ortiz would be 2-3. I’d give Manny #2 because he plays defense.

From there, it’s really a toss up. I had Jeter and Abreu ranked 4, 5 and I know people would disagree with that.

After that, it’s tough to accurately rank these guys.

Weather permitting, this is Boston’s World Series. Look in the stands and see mouths open with envy and jealousy unseen with other visiting teams. It’s about NYC and the Yankees and ongoing for generations.

  21. Paolo April 11th, 2008 at 4:44 pm

    Wow, Pete, you are spoiled…

  22. Yazman April 11th, 2008 at 6:16 pm

    Too bad, Peter.

Sadly, the short stay is part of why they gave you the room.
