Does anyone have a link where I can see Joba doing the Yankee lineup yesterday? I was at my son's baseball practice and missed it, and heard he did a good job. Thanks!

bodhisattva,

You are entitled to your opinions. There are opinions here sometimes that I disagree with that I would either ignore or respond to in a respectful manner. But you wrote a super long post essentially scolding me in upper case all because of one word I used? and that word is "again"?? It's not like I used a profanity. It was far from a proportional response don't you think? Anyway I'm gonna sign off this post and hope we treat each other with more tolerance on the next one.

I'll tell you what, A-Rod hit that homerun off Papelbon in the rain last year and I will never forget it. One strike out doesnt doom the season imo.

Bring on the Phranchise!

Dee,

Your being misinformed about ARod vs. Boston pitching was the issue, not your rooting for the Yankees or my state of relaxation.

The stats are pretty basic stuff: BAA and OBP - not really "fancy". Interesting choice of word though, since the notion that ARod is owned by Boston pitching is itself fanciful.

I not only understand your irritation with the awful at-bat, I share it. Not going to get into that because it's tangential.

What I took issue with was your language: "owned again." which implies a precedent for being "owned" by Boston pitching, as does being "tired of" something that can't possibly have made you tired, since ARod excelled against those pitchers last year.

SJ44, I listen to M&MD even though they drive me through the roof. I have no problem with them believing that Joba should be in the bullpen (listen to how many people around the game think that), but they way they arrogantly dismiss anyone who doesn't agree with them is so obnoxious I sometimes have to turn them off. I think the Yankees know more about their own players than anyone else does and frankly Mike Francesca is cluess (Chris, being a Giants fan, I can excuse somewhat). Joba can't be a great starter because Manhattan hit him once? LOL...what's next? Phil Hughes is doomed because he once got bombed by a Little League team?

I mostly like Michael Kay on his radio show (he's way more polite and human than M&MD are), but his comments last year about Phil were beyond ridiculous. Phil's injuries set him back ......a LOT. They were bad injuries and it took him a long time to overcome them. For Kay and Leiter to say that Phil was nothing special based on his struggles.......it just upset me. To be fair, everyone jumped off Phil's bandwagon and they all haven't hopped back on yet. I'm not sure why Phil is being held to a higher standard than, say, Felix Hernandez. That guy is called "King" even though his first couple of years have not been exactly Cy Young worthy. I'm not getting on his case because he's a baby with amazing stuff and he will very likely be an ace; I'm just pointing out that even Hernandez' lights-out stuff hasn't been enough to allow him to be an ace right away.

Melky is really a great story, isn't he? He's improving by leaps and bounds (and showing good things in the park that was his horror show a few years ago). Here's a perfect example of a player rewarding the team's faith in him.

I understand how fans can be because I get like that myself. When it comes to individual games, I get annoyed and upset as anyone - I hate to lose and I practically yell at my tv, LOL. However, I will not judge a player after only a few weeks (some want to trash Damon, Giambi, Cano, etc......) because they are still human beings and therefore, not perfect. Everyone goes through slumps; it doesn't make them trash. I also think the proliferation of message boards emphasizes the negativity in sports. I mean, the boards I go to are practically bi-polar when it comes to the Yankees. When they win, they are sky-high; after a loss, they are in the dumps. Send Cano down-he's lazy; Damon stinks; Jeter can't field and he looks like he's old; A-Rod is swinging for the fences and looks lost. It's hard to take sometimes.

No prob Dee. I hear ya.

I am getting better myself at figuring out who knows what they're talking about (or at least is capable of decent discussion) and who is just trying to stir trouble.

Thanks Boston Dave. I never come here looking to pick a fight, I enjoy my fellow fans' input and hearing the experts' take on things like SJ, CB etc. But when someone tries to pick on me unfairly, I defend myself.

Dee/bodhisattva,

Papelbon has overmatched most of the guys he's faced thus far. Just as Mariano has, JJ Putz, etc...

If you get a hit once in 4 AB's against these guys, it's something to be pleased about.

ARod didnt get him this time. He has before, he will again.

As long as we can all root for ARod the next time he gets a shot, no need to argue.
