Shelley Duncan was demoted to Triple-A Scranton through no fault of his own. But give the big guy credit, he hasn’t let it bother him.
Shelley in two games for the SWBs: 5 for 9, three doubles, two home runs, four RBI. His OPS is 2.156.
Darrell Rasner in two starts: 12 7 1 1 1 10
Kei Igawa in 2 starts: 10 6 1 1 1 13
Mark Melancon first three appearances for Tampa: 4.2 6 6 6 2 3. He’s allowed 2 HRs.
Jesus Montero at Charleston: .368/.400/.605. two homers, three doubles, nine RBI in 38 at-bats. He’s not going to be a RiverDog for long if this keeps up.
Brad Suttle is at .364 for Charleston, a good sign after his mighty struggles in Hawaii.

Man, the Yankees have some solid prospects – it’s awesome.
Go Shelley!
I am pretty new to the baseball stats game and have a couple “newbie” questions.
What do these numbers mean: 12 7 1 1 1 10
What’s OPS?
What’s a good website to go to ask similar questions so I don’t have to bug you guys here?
Thanks.
Jensen:
12 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 Walk, 10 strikeouts.
After the first 7 games, Charleston was at .336 as a team.
…and mine.
OPS means On Base Percentage + Slugging Average.
OPS = OBP + SLG = On Base Percentage + Slugging Percentage
OBP = (Hits + Walks + Hit By Pitch) / (At Bats + Walks + Sacrifice Flies + Hit By Pitch) = basically, every time you step up to the plate, what’s the percentage of the time you end up on at least first base?
SLG = Total Bases / At Bats. HR > triple > double > single > out.
Edwar’s number also look impressive down at Scranton.
Veras’ less so, which disappoints me thus far. I nursed high hopes for Veras.
My one fault with SLG is that I don’t personally rate a triple all that much more than a double – it’s usually more a function of lucky bounces or a runner’s speed than the actual hitting ability. When I’m evaluating potential breakout players for my fantasy team, I look at doubles and triples equally (an uptick in doubles can precede (not necessarily, but can) a solid uptick in HRs).
what do the pitching lines mean?? the five or six numbers aross?
See Mike S.’s post:
Innings Pitched / Hits / Runs / Earned Runs / Walks / Strikeouts.
anybody questioning Melancon’s line he’s coming back from TJS and is currently building up his arm strength, Nardi and Mark Newman has been upfront about his use and Humberto Sanchez is throwing bullpen sessions so it won’t be too long for him to get his 08′ debut.
oh debut for minor league ball, I don’t want people misquoting me.
can u give melly half a season before u losers bad mouth him?
