Albaladejo replaces Chamberlain on roster

Peter Abraham

The Yankees have placed Joba Chamberlain on the bereavement list, as his father has been hospitalized at the St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln, Neb. Joba accompanied the team to Tampa then caught a flight to Nebraska. Harlan Chamberlain is in intensive care.

Chamberlain must stay on the bereavement list a minimum of three days. After seven days, a player can re-apply for a seven-day renewal or be placed on the restricted list.

RHP Jonathan Albaladejo was recalled from Triple-A Scranton.

For what it’s worth, MLB needs to change the name of the bereavement list as it’s not necessarily for deaths. The family leave list or something.

This Joba story is a sad one. I feel bad I didn’t even watch the “Yesterday’s” episode with Michael Kay. It becomes an instant classic.

Hope Joba’s dad is okay. He seems like a cool guy and deserves to watch his son succeed.

has anyone seen Shelly Duncan’s stats at Scranton, we need to find him a spot

Get well soon, Harlan. Kennedy needs a strong showing tonight, along with that, the bats need to heat up in that dome.

Are you sure about there being no limit? I thought it was for seven days max?

Either way, hope Harlan makes a quick and complete recovery.

You’re exactly right about the name of the Bereavement list, Pete. As soon as I saw earlier that Joba was placed on it, I automatically assumed his father had passed.

Intensive Care? Thats too bad :( Get well Harlan

I wonder if Patterson is a little upset. Wasn’t he told that he would get the first call if someone went down. I know this is alittle different as Joba will be back soon.

Dude, YES’ programming is painful… I couldnt even sit through 15 minutes of Yesterdays with Joba, it was beyond awful.

  15. Tom

You’re not kidding Pete. I heard on another site that Joba was on the bereavement list, I started searching like mad fearing the worse!!

    get well soon, harlan!

Keeping my fingers crossed for the Chamberlains.

I will give Bud Selig credit for this list, but yeah, change the name.

As far as backing up 3B, I think Ensberg could probably handle those duties for a few days. He is a career third baseman. Since Betemit is on the DL, maybe they could bring up Miranda for a few days in case the need to spell Giambi at first.

Sorry…commented on the wrong post. Best wishes to Harlan.

Ditto to what others have said about renaming the bereavement list, I assumed the worst when I saw that. My thoughts & prayers are with the Chamberlain family.

    God bless the chamberlain family!

After 7 days Joba would go on the restricted list? Wouldn’t that stop his arbitration clock?
