Kennedy (bruised hip) is fine

Peter Abraham
April
14

Ian Kennedy took a ball off his right hip in the seventh inning, right on the belt line. That was the last batter he was facing regardless.

He expects there will be a bruise but he doesn’t expect to have any problems making his next start.

Derek Jeter (left quad) didn’t run as hard as he could but said he emerged with no discomfort.

First win in a few days. Based on the pattern we win two then lose two then win two. So we’ll win tomorrow.

Pete. Do you think that the hitting was better because of the weather?

  3. DeNiro

i’m glad we won that game, i might have put my fist through the tv if we didn’t , anyways i thought kennedy looked really solid tonight, epecially the location of his fastball

Thank God. The Yanks don’t need to add another injury.
It’s too bad he didn’t get the win, though.

  5. Bronx Liaison

Hey Pete, has anybody asked or received an answer as to why Phil Hughes refuses to use his changeup more often?

Except for his last start, Hughes used the slider several times in games this year [including Spring]. I am very curious why no one’s asked Hughes to explain the absence of his shelf.

I apologize if it’s been answered and not put in print..

    *shelf = change

what? we all know that bruised hips are season ending injuries! (see Pavano, Carl)

  8. Fernando Alejandro (Respect Jeter's Gangster)

Lots of respect to Kennedy who fielded that ball even after it pegged him in the hip.

Agreed RollingWave, at least a a 60 day trip to the DL would have already been announced for Pavano. It would go nicely with his bruised buttocks stint.

Too bad Kennedy didn’t get the win, but he pitched very well, a real confidence booster.

Great to hear Jeter wasn’t even at full speed adn still looked that good out there.

i think hughes didn’t use his change because the game plan was to fastball/curve the first run through the order. however, i do think the plan should have changed when he got into trouble and he could have mixed it in more.

    Jeter is doing great !
