The only reason Damon is leading off is because he is a lefhanded batter.

You don't want Cano, Giambi and Damon stacked together in the lineup.

I agree that Damon should not be the leadoff hitter. He isn't nearly as good at getting on base as several other hitters on the team. I'd go with this lineup order:

Jeter
Abreu
Matsui
ARod
Posada
Cano
Giambi
Damon
Cabrera

"trisha- that post is pathetic. youre using the adversity that all baseball teams face during a season as a lame excuse. and almost doesnt count except for horsehoes and handgrenades."

I don't believe the team can win with Damon as its leadoff hitter. He doesn't draw walks and he's a poor situational hitter. "Flamin'," as I like to call him, has had a Yanks career which mirrors that of Chuck Knoblauch's, a player who, like Damon, had his best years before he arrived in NY. Knoblauch, however, was able to help lead the team to titles in 1988-2000 because of his ability to put the ball in play and get on base. While Damon has enjoyed just one year in which he has drawn at least 70 walks, Knoblauch had five. Knoblauch's OBP of .393 in '99 will never be matched by Damon, who dropped from a .285 to .270 batting average in his second year with NY. His bad speed has dropped precipitously and he seems to be caught in a nasty spiral of unbelief in terms of his declining skills. The issue is who else do you use? Barring a trade, I think the best lineup would be start with Jeter, Cabrera, Abreu, Rodriquez... Cabrera. Mekly has shown he can lift the ball at times -- as evidence by his clutch sac fly in the win over Boston -- plus he can and will bunt. I'd bat Damon ninth. That way, what you get for him is a bonus and if he gets on, it offers a speedy baserunner for the top of the order.

Who cares about the Sox now? Wake me up in August, please.

I guess the bat speed is down for Big Papi--that's what happens when you take HGH and have to stop. Compare the size of his arms this year to last year...

"Only a matter of time before JB Cox makes his way towards Trenton.
McCutchen looks very good so far……."

Cox is improving McCutchen was dominant tonight, so was Robertson.

"Stop hammering Girardi for putting in Farnsworth. He’s on the team. He needs to pitch. He did well tonight"

Worst thing that could have happened. Farns is just setting us up for a bigger fall in a more important game down that road. Farns has always been a tease like that, going back to his Chicago days.
