I think the lads from Orange County with improve in incruments of 3 ( as in starts )...As many us know and understand this is learning in the fast lane....Yes it is an overpowering lineup, but the pressure of playing for the NY Yankees and the expectations that is part of wearing the Pinstripe uni just impacts the situation 5 fold.....Just witness the comments that alter from outing to outing.....Tough Gig man....

You know what? I'm getting kind of excited about our bullpen. We've got some great potential coming up despite some serious question marks. If Farnsworth and Bruney can pull themselves together a bit (or either one of them for that matter) we'd be very very good. Hawkins has been doing very well. Traber looks like he could be a pretty solid lefty specialist, we've got joba in there, mo is still sharp, and personally I think Ohlendorf is an interesting pitcher. And even if a few of those guys don't work out we still have Patterson, Ramirez, Melancon, and Horne to experiment with. For once things are looking in our bullpen.

just checked…

that makes 7 straight scoreless innings for Hawkins and only 4 hits

not too shabby

And 4 of them against the Red Sox, pretty impressive.
Actually suzyn said on her post game show that Hawkins told her that his struggles in the begining of the season might of came because of the cold weather and its hard for him at this age to get loose in the cold.

Just got home from the game, it was a great great night in the Bronx. The bats sure got hot, but I'm most excited to see them driving in runs with men on and especially with two outs. It's about damn time!

The fans were pretty quiet when Hawkins first came in, no cheers or boos. But by the time he finished the inning there were really loud cheers. Bruney was getting almost Jeter-like reception in the eighth. I seriously couldn't believe my eyes or ears.

"Dee wow, what is wrong with people. was he a sox or Yankee fan, or could you not tell."

Jennifer, I couldn't tell whether the guy who started the fight and was literally throwing people over the railing was Sox or Yanks fan, he was shirtless! He was pushing everyone, Sox, Yanks, men and women. It was crazy. There were a bunch of fights throughout the game. If I had to guess I would say they were started by Yanks fans unfortunately, because a couple of Sox fans sitting close to us were getting heckled all night.

"old school' is a diplomatic way of putting it. some of the new school folks would use a slightly different adjective. i agree with you with mussina. if he can squeak out a decent 5th starter role this year, i'll consider it found money. i'm hoping the california connection
( that you watched as youngsters) of hughes and kennedy comes through. maybe when the weather warms up they'll warm up as well. playing april baseball in the northeast is an acquired skill. it takes time to learn to play when your freezing your #4% off.
