Mr. Sheppard is synonymous w the Stadium in my lifetime. I’ll trade a thousand role calls for 1 more game from the “Voice of God”. Imagine him announcing the Pope this Sunday? “and in CF, #1, Benny XVI.”

Any chance we can get recordings for all the players (like the Captain has done) until Mr. Sheppard returns this summer?

Cut Jim Hall some slack. That’s a legendary voice to follow. Shepherd endorsed him, saying he was the 2nd best announcer.

Talk about a lineup. Forgot that Jensen had been a football player too.

That game was Mickey Mantle’s MLB debut.

Exactly two years later, on this date 55 years ago, Mantle hit his famous shot off of Chuck Stobbs at Washington’s Griffith Stadium that cleared the LCF bleachers—the shot that was measured at 565 feet and gave birth to the phrase, “tape-measure home run.”

One of the many things I have been looking forward to my stadium visit later this year was hearing Bob’s announcements.

For those inclined, please include Mr. Sheppard in your prayers for his speedy and full recovery.

I’m ok with Hall using Bob’s inflections – I think I’d be rattled during a game to hear a completely different tone through the PA system. Obviously, no one can replace “The Voice,” but I think it’s comforting to have a similar fill-in – kinda reminds you Bob’s not done yet.

When you hear PA announcers at some other stadiums with the WWE-like way they announce the home team players, it makes me ever-more grateful for Bob’s low-key style. Hopefully he has a quick recovery!

Hearing Bob Sheppard’s voice is still one of the best parts of the Yankee Stadium experience. It’s not the same without him. I hope he gets well soon.
