Matsui has always been a run producer and will finish out his last contract year of 2009. If Brett Gardner continues to progress as expected, he's the next leadoff hitter and left fielder unless Joe Girardi prefers Melky in LF and Gardner in CF. For 2009, Gardner as the leadoff man, Matsui as the DH, and Mark Teixeira as the 1st baseman has a nice ring to it. Unless Damon shows shades of his old self as a leadoff hitter, this will be his final year in New York.
