Money Blanket, you said it perfectly. Just by making those two simple changes the Yankees can go from a good team to possibly a power house once again. I mean you would be looking at a top 3 of Wang, Pettitte and Joba. No one can honestly think the Red Sox top 3 of Beckett, Dice-K, and Wakefield can honestly compete with that top 3 the Yankees have the option to put out there. I don't think any American league team can compete with that top 3. It's amazing how much better it looks with Joba in there than MIKE MUSSINA.

I just watched the 6th inning his so called terrible inning. 2 of the hits were on mediocre pitches. The third hit was on a pretty good change up, it was more a case of good hitting than bad pitching. He then got a infield pop up on a well placed fastball, then a weak grounder to third. Sorry, but the 5 runs he got charged with are a joke. I personally think girardi should've let him get out of his own mess, and bail his teamates out. He was pitching better than hawkins, and probably would've gotten out of the inning with less damage done.

I do think Pete is right though.

Cashman has mishandled building this team. I said it months ago that going into the season with 3 major question marks in the rotation is a huge mistake.

He had time and money to get another veteran starter and maybe even move on from Mussina in the off season and he chose to be stubborn and a bit foolhardy in my opinion.

He was a petulant child when it was suggested he give up some young talent for the likes of Johan and Haren when they were available.

We should have had no more than one to two major question marks in the rotation.

Having 2 rookies who need to take their lumps and an over the hill vet means 3/5 games we're in trouble and the bullpen is on red alert.

That is not the way to assemble a roster in my opinion. Especially a roster full of recently re-signed aging vets for massive money.

It's like putting budget tires on a Bentley.

He thinks he's cracked the code and this is the way, but I think he's going to end up parting with the young talent he clutched onto with pride when the season starts to slip.

There is no one in the ownership or the fan community that seriously wanted this to be a rebuilding pull up your bootstraps kind of season.

Everyone here has playoff expectations.

I know there are tons of you who come out and say, you're more concerned about 2010, but if Hughes and Kennedy flame out, get injured, don't live up to potential, then you've just wasted the careers of an entire team of vets in 2008-09.

I think he gambled too mightily on trying to include the kids and what's left of Moose in his rotation and it won't be long before Pete, the Post and Daily News are talking starting pitching trade rumors.

Which gets me back to my off season point. We had a chance to get top flight starting pitching in the off season and we puffed our chests and said damn the stats, the kids will lead us.

Maybe they will.

But I truly think there's way too many question marks in this rotation for this team to be a consistent winner as constituted.

NYPD113th, Are you 5? Seriously everything that you post on here basically has no substance at all. If all you want to do is taunt Yankee fans then just go to the mlb.com boards this isn't the place.

From our friend at SlidingIntoHome. To those who are trying to criticize Phil Hughes, please read.

Johan Santana: After three starts in 2000 (age 21) Santana was 0-2, with a 9.69 ERA. He was then moved into the bullpen where he also got hit hard finishing the year with a 6.49 ERA. He did start twice more that year, and gave up 3 runs and 6 hits in 5.1 IP in the first and 7 runs on 7 hits in 4.2 IP in the second.

Greg Maddux: Maddux was 1-2 with a 6.53 ERA after 3 starts in 1987 at age 21.

Roger Clemens: Through six starts with Boston in 1984 at 21 Clemens had a 7.13 ERA.

Randy Johnson: After four starts in 1989 at age 24 he was 0-3 and also had a 7.13 ERA.

Curt Schilling: At age 21 Schilling went 0-3 with a 9.82 ERA.
