Ozzie loves the Captain

Here’s what Ozzie Guillen told the Chicago writers about Derek Jeter yesterday:

”Derek Jeter has everything in his life. ‘He’s got money, he’s got rings. … He’s not married. He lives in New York. At the All-Star Game, I looked around to see if he’s got anything I don’t like. Whoa. The perfect man. Too bad I don’t have a daughter.”

Whoa, take it easy, Ozzie. Makes me look like I can’t stand Bruce Springsteen or Chien-Ming Wang.

I spy with my little eye a man crush.

  4. grafxkid April 24th, 2008 at 12:34 pm

wasn’t Ozzie seen kissing one of his players after a win last year too?

  5. Gus G. April 24th, 2008 at 12:35 pm

He would want his daughter to date the ultimate sleep-around? Wow.

and he doesn’t pay for parking either, wam bam thank you ma’am lose my number ….. :?

Ozzie’s paying the ultimate compliment to a man. That he’s good enough to marry your daughter, when no one’s ever good enough. Of course Ozzie will expect Jeter’s little black book as a dowry, but that’s beside the point.

Didn’t Alex say the same thing about Andy?

The Los Angeles Times – Dodgers’ hitting coach Don Mattingly is reportedly trying to fix the swing of new outfielder Andruw Jones, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Manager Joe Torre said that Mattingly is working with Jones on his swing, as he continues to aim for the fences in nearly every at bat.

“It gets you in some bad habits,” Torre said of Jones, who is hitting .159 and has struck out 22 times in 63 at-bats. “He hit 20-something home runs last year, but who knows how many he would’ve hit with a different approach.”

    hmmm.. :?

Living in boston, I have to watch the games on mlb.tv, which means I get the home game broadcast, which means I had to listen to the hawk these past two nights.

First, the hawk and his buddy are, by far, the worst announcers in the game today. They are self-declared homers, who refer to the visiting team as “the bad guys” in broadcast.

But, you should listen to them fawn on and on and on about Jeter. Oh my god, it’s sycophantic. They love him here in Chicago, I guess.

“Derek Jeter has everything in his life. … He’s not married…”

Only us married dudes can truley appreciate this part.

  13. Donna April 24th, 2008 at 1:10 pm

Wheee! The kids must be off from school today!

  14. DLev April 24th, 2008 at 1:14 pm

Wouldn’t Ozzie have to have 2 daughters if he wanted to keep Derek happy?

  15. hmmm April 24th, 2008 at 1:15 pm

is Ozzie married? his wife must be thrilled with this comment.

  16. Yanksrule57 April 24th, 2008 at 1:17 pm

What’s not to like about Jeter?

He is an honors graduate of the M. Jordan school of media. The guy never says anything controversial.

His only vice appears to be gorgeous women and he is single so no big deal.

If I wasn’t a Yankee fan I would have a hard time finding something not to like about him.

It makes SAWX fans that much more amusing when all they can think to say is “Jeter S****!”

Remember the days when they use to say how much better Nomar was than Jeter? Where are those people now?

  17. saucY April 24th, 2008 at 1:19 pm

    haha, he is married

Guillen is married to Ibis Cardenas and has three children.[8]

Oh, c’mon, we want to see the Wang odes and tributes!!

  19. Mike from CT April 24th, 2008 at 1:20 pm

Brandon (supporting the new movement “Alex being Alex”) – Where di you find that piece about Mattingly? Didn’t he resign as Dodgers hitting coach because of the troubles with his soon-to-be ex-wife?

  20. saucY April 24th, 2008 at 1:23 pm

hmmm, i looked it up. he is married. i wonder if his wife met him at the door last night, rolling pin in hand. lol

  21. chaossolver April 24th, 2008 at 1:36 pm

    lol that is frigging hilarious

  22. Lori April 24th, 2008 at 1:39 pm

I’m sure Derek would take exception to the “he’s living in New York” part — given his recent troubles with the NY tax authorities over his claim that he DOESN’T live in NY. . .

  23. Rocco April 24th, 2008 at 1:47 pm

ARE YOU SURE YOU’RE NOT A SHORTSTOP?!?

  24. Nice Marmot April 24th, 2008 at 2:11 pm

Wouldn’t Jeter’s tax lawyers disagree with Ozzie there and point out that Derek actually lives in Florida?

  25. JJNJ April 24th, 2008 at 2:13 pm

    LOL good stuff!

  26. kg April 24th, 2008 at 2:28 pm

    boston-

ha i watched the mlbtv broadcast last night too. those idiots suck so bad i love how they refer to the chisox as “us” or “we really need to get a hit here” as if those nerds are part of the team. then, when jorge hit his 3rd double of the game, one of them was like “did that ball sound funny off the bat…” or something and that started a 15 min convo about corked bats. yeah, jorge’s bat is corked. guess when aj pierzynski is your catcher youre not used to seeing a couple hits every once in awhile. cant believe i almost miss the yes ntwork

  27. Frank Discussion April 24th, 2008 at 3:14 pm

I was talking about these two (Hawk / DJ) in an earlier thread and I agree, they are a joke. The folksy catchphrases, insisting on using abbreviations for the players (OC for Orlando Cabrera, etc) and the insistence on calling Thome “Jimmy” or “Paulie” Konerko… it’s like watching Andy Griffith and Ward Cleaver call a game.

i love jete … but doesn’t he have herpes ? rumor had it a while ago jessica alba got herps from jete. now if there is one woman out there worth herpes. it might be her.

  29. YankeesLuv April 24th, 2008 at 3:32 pm

I like Jetes too (Ozzie seems to be in love though). Don’t know if he would really want his daughter to be with Jetes though, boy gets around.
