If Farnsworth's injury is only a day-to-day thing he should drop his suspension appeal and get that over with. Unless that will leave them shorthanded in the bullpen.

Pete:

Girardi cannot be at fault for ruining Johnson's arm - especially after one game. Please don't forget that Willie put 24-year old Oliver Perez back out after the same amount of time and he's still going strong.

great points on joba saving the BP Doreen. that crossed my mind a little as well.

2 issues i had while watching the game - not major, but still my 2 cents:
- pinch hitting posada for ensburg in the top of the 9th after ensburg tied the game with a single off a righty.
- joba should have walked crede with 1st open. he would have been a meaningless baserunner for the sox at that point.

I don't know why the Yanks did not DL Bruney when he is walking around in a boot and obviously not ready to pitch anytime soon. I can understand carrying Derek, Jorge or ARod without DLing them since they did not need a full 15 days and you don't want to keep those guys inactive any more than you have to.

I think that the Yanks should bring up Rasner. They need a long reliever and he fits that bill. He is also doing very well in Scranton and says that the pitching coach there has helped him to develop a cutter which is helping him get outs.

I blame Giambi & Posada. Bases loaded, pops up. Pinch hitter grounds into DP...Can we learn to be clutch?? Ugh. Joba you were great. Last night's game should have been won.

Ok, now on to something positive. I was flipping through the game, not expecting Phil to only pitch 2 innings, but I saw him blow away Thome with an 86 MPH FB, saw a few well-placed FB and a couple of weird looking pitches that moved like a crazy knuckleball (the change he's still working on?).

For those who watched the full two innings, what did you guys see with Phil tonight that you were happy with? Also, are any of you concerned that he's going into his next start against the Tigers off of a very short stint? Is it normal for pitchers to finish their work indoors in cases like this and would it be possible for Phil to pitch in relief on his throw day?

The way I look at last night, Joba did the Yankees a favor. Yes, a favor. :) When the Yankees did not score in the top of the ninth, if Joba had shut the WSox down in the bottom of the ninth without scoring, you're looking at extra innings, with the possibility of either Mariano going more than one inning, when he had pitched in two innings the night before. And if it was still a tie game, then you're really getting into the depths of the bullpen with a four-game series in Cleveland looming. Not only that, but the game finished up late enough as it was.

See, silver lining to every cloud.

Plus, Joba's been great and no one is perfect!

They've really got some scrambling to do. I guess the only good thing is that Cleveland is really not in much better shape, are they?

Cashman needs to take chances that Moeller will not get claimed. Former White Sox backup catcher Chris Stewart is at Scrantom/Wilkes-Barre if needed. Posada and Molina are healthy so why is a 3rd catcher needed and clogging up the 25-man roster ?
The immediate needs call for Giambi sitting and Shelley at 1st base.
Darrell Rasner would be on schedule to start Saturday for SWB. He can fit right in as a long reliever [now] and take the pressure off Ohlendorf.
DL Bruney and bring up Albaladejo or Ramirez.
All the answers are within the organization.

with all the times joba has bailed out the yankees, he is allowed to lose one, in my humble opinion.

Couldn't agree more! Joba has only one or two bad pitches in his career so far, nothing to complain about at all.

While it would've been good that we won, it's kind of merciful too that the game ended in the 9th. We did not need extra innings in that weather facing a 4 game series with Cleveland.

We won 2 out of 3 against a much stronger White Sox team than we've seen in a few years. We we're very close to winning that 3rd too. All in all that's a good result.
