not only do the yanks let freddy in but one of the sporting goods stores (i think modell's) sponsors him, paying for his season tickets every year.

you're definately in the minority on this one peter.

Peter Abraham's insult of Freddy - just another example of Abraham's disconnect with the Yankee fanbase.

1. Freddy's awesome. I'd rather have some guy banging a frying pan than sit with some of these obnoxious drunks & hecklers who embarrass the fan base and make families w/ kids at the game uncomfortable.

2. I didn't understand using Stewart last night either, given Hughes' pitching woes & the Detroit offense - unless Molina is still struggling with whatever ailment he's had off and on (I think its his thigh or something).

Hey, stop hating on freddy! I was at the game and he gave the pan to some drunken fool who kept banging on it non stop to try to get the crowd involved...he wouldnt stop for about 10 minutes, so freddy just sat down and let him keep going.

"I just want to know what happened to a guy billed as a top end #1 with a blistering fastball and great command."

The answer is very simple: Hughes was over-hyped by the Yankees. There was never a strong basis for concluding that he should be considered a future ace. He's good, but not great, and for some reason the Yanks convinced themselves he was more than what he is.

Again, this is a high pressure situation. Hughes' era is above 9 in the last 5 games. He looks off. He needs to learn how to pitch through adversity, but he can't do so as long relief, it isn't practical. You aren't going to take out a starting pitcher prematurely just to relegate work. Nor are you going to put him in for one inning at a time. Now look, I'm not calling for them to put joba in the rotation, I don't think he'll dominate there immediately, and clearly he too will have growing pains. However, either the yankees are going to be serious about fixing him or not... and what they are doing now is clearly not working.

That's a ridiculous excuse though, Rob. I'm not saying "Don't try to win." But it's impossible to develop players that way. If every game is do or die, then Hughes and Kennedy can't have growing pains. And if they can't be allowed to grow, then what's the point of having young pitchers?
