Wow, what a surprise....yet another shot at Girardi from Pete Abraham. I hope it's only a matter of time before he confronts your fat, pompous ass and chucks you around for a little while. Shut your mouth, do your job and get us our information, beat writer. Stop criticizing athletes and managers, because it's not your place. You can't even wiggle away from morbid obesity--weighing judgment is something you have NO right doing.

Wasn't there a guy, in his age 20 season, who threw 5 1/3rd innings of 3 hit, 1 run, no walk, 6k ball at the Indians in the division series, got a win? Who no hit the RAngers for 6 1/3rd? Who had an AL EAst sub 4.50 era at age 20?

And who opened the season with a nice game against Toronto a month ago?

I think this is all why Earl Weaver broke young pitchers in as mop up men.

Phil will be fine in the long run. Looks like the attitude here is in the long run we're all dead.

Problem now is the pressure loaded onto the next start, whenever that one is, but he will eventually throw another good game and the ball will roll from there. Or, if he never pitches well again, hope he can hit like Ankiel.

Way to many of you Chicken Little's out there. It may look like the sky is falling but things are going to be just fine. The lineup has looked awful but things will change. Guys are gonna start picking it up and hitting.

I don't mind Hughes getting some coaching on the side for a couple of weeks from Dave Eiland, that's what he's there for... Plus, the advantage of this is that he won't lose confidence by going down to the minors and potentially not doing that great down there, then becoming a psychological mess. AND he doesn't use up innings as part of his mandatory innings limit. Listen, there are advantages and disadvantages to Hughes getting demoted to AAA and working out kinks there. I just happen to feel that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.

Also, if you don't think that the Yankees are eventually going to trade for a starting pitcher with some experience and MLB credibility you're absolutely kidding yourselves. It's going to happen, just a matter of when. In the meantime, I honestly think that the pitching is going to work itself out.

Lastly, I know many debate the merits the psychological aspect of big league players. Some think guys are basically just robots and are going to perform regardless of score and situation. I do not. I think that a lot of the time, when pitchers either have a lead or just kind of have that instinctive feeling that the lineup is going to pick them up, get them some runs and keep them in the game, even if they make a few mistakes, they gain more confidence and pitch better. Now, I know the statistical folks would argue and say that argument is flawed and not based on anything quantifiable. They're right. But for anyone that watches these games and for anyone that's ever played, you just know that it affects these guys. Once the team starts scoring more earlier and consistently picking up their offense during games (which is exactly what they did last year) you will start to see guys like Pettitte and (hopefully) Kennedy come along and start getting big W's.

Hope springs eternal GO BOMBERS!!!!

the Yankees are pathetic. They should've just told the truth and said that Phil just isn't ready to pitch a full season in the majors. That's it. We would've understood. This is part of the growing process. Instead, we've got bait & switch answers, rigmarole, & a poor kid forced to B.S. about an injury that really doesn't exist.

And its only April. I can't wait for more tales & mysticism to flow from this franchise as the season continues.

"I like ya, Pete… but you gotta stop this (not so) subtle Girardi bashing. Don’t like the guy? Fine. That’s your prerogative. It’s also your prerogative to write about it in your blog.

But, as a loyal reader, I’m telling you right now that it makes me want to read your blog less.

I like your blog for the info it provides. I don’t read it because I enjoy reading petty snipes."

I second MikeC

133 games remaining

Hughes did NOT say he didn't tell anyone until today. He said he told his coaches after the game but didn't think anyone else knew about it until today.

i don't know that it's worth bashing the reporter for. it's just so trivial - the obvious anger the reporter has is so out of proportion to what is going on.

especially because Girardi is just being professional.
