You guys have no concept whatsoever of small sample size. A few bounces go different ways and we're tied for the division lead. It's one month in, and saying "step off the ledge" is entirely appropriate.

Other than Mo, Bruney, and Melky, you have nobody who is playing over their heads. Cano has been among the most unlucky hitters in baseball. Nearly everyone else will improve. And still we are 7 runs away from ranking 7th in MLB in runs. That's pretty amazing.

So yes, get off the ledge. Hughes and Kennedy have been bad, but Wang, Mussina, Bruney, Rivera, have all been better than expected.

Things even out.

JoeT (12:58 a.m.)
I saw David Robertson at Charleston (I think) he has very good stuff. Fastball 90/95 with movement, slider, curve, I don't remember seeing a change-up. He was very impressive. A few days ago, I mentioned his name on a blog(I think it was this one or RAB). He is good, but it is a little early to be calling him up yet...maybe around July/Aug.
Pete (1:03 a.m.)
Nice shot, some just don't pay attention to what is going on.

G. Love,

Damon was a bad signing, and a lot of people thought so at the time, but he's not the reason the team is doing so poorly. His numbers so far this season are excellent. If the Yankees keep him from breaking down, he can still be useful.

It's hard to believe that this is Giambi's seventh season with the Yankees and that he had an OPS+ of 148 or better in four of those seasons. Seasons like this one (terrible defense, stubbornly hitting into the shift) will be his legacy. Cashman tried to find other solutions at first (Wilson, Phillips, Mientkiewicz) and none of them worked out. Giambi himself is completely untradeable. He can still be of some help to us if he starts hitting the ball to left and keeps drawings walks.

We'll always be left to wonder about Santana. But Hughes might have been pitching injured, and Kennedy has already shown that he can pitch in the majors. It's far too soon to give up on them. Plus, the Santana rumors generally had Melky, one of the team's few bright spots, going to the Twins. Who plays center if we trade Melky?

Cashman has repeatedly displayed a knack for acquiring stopgap rotation fillers when starters go down with injuries. I'm confident he can do it again.

It's early, it's the weather, there's injuries, etc etc etc. ENOUGH. These are all excuses, and excuses are like...well we all know the rest.

Other teams are playing early, in this weather, with injuries AGAINST the Yankees, and they are winning. Those are not excuses. I don't understand why fans can't just admit that the team is playing TERRIBLE right now instead of blaming it on everything else. The other teams play in the SAME EXACT conditions as the Yankees, and they're embarrassing us. If they can do it, we should be able too. There is no excuse anymore.

Very glad Murcer's back.

Can Michael ("If You See") Kay go back to "Bowling For Dollars" or do something else commensurate with his talents?

Please.

There is alot of good with these Yankees and alot that is not so good at this point of the season but what is concerning me is that there seems to be no fire in this team. I hate the Red Sox always did and always will but that little second baseman has the fire I would like to see in some of the Yanks. You got Shelly and Melky but that does not seem to carry much during the game. Joba has the pumping of the fist, which I have noticed he stopped lately, and that seems to be it.

Trade Matsui right Pete?

haha you say fans shouldn't want to be general managers of teams, even though most of them think they could do the job. Well what gives beat writers the ability to say who to trade and who not to trade?
