Chad Jennings reports that Ian Kennedy will start for AAA Scranton tomorrow.
It’s good that Ian will pitch right away and get to work on making the adjustments he needs to make. How he handles his demotion, one way or the other, will be telling.

We all know he has to throw Strikes, don`t be afraid of the Bat.
I think that IPK will spend very little time in SWB for one reason:
Kei Igawa
I would imagine IPK spends about six starts down in AAA. That’s enough time for him to get settled and into a rhythm…plus enough of a sample size to demonstrate his confidence and control is back.
Good luck to Ian!
He would be best served to take a cue from Jose Tabata.
Tabata was down in the dumps about his play, got suspended and has been on fire since he came back. He got 2 hits yesterday and is 3-3 so far tonight.
That’s the way to bounce back after you got knocked on your butt.
Its a game that tests you most when you get knocked down.
If he can pitch in Scranton the way he is capable of pitching, he will have another opportunity in NY this year.
lets go ipk! do work.
Oh look..Dice-K still has a no-hitter
Dice K wont make it out of the sixth….way to many (86) pitches and in the forth..and 7 walks
I’m not convinced that he can’t get AAA hitters out *without* making adjustments, which is why I’m not a fan of this move.
SJ: And let us say, Amen
Oh well. No more.
Matt DiBari that’s the problem I have. I think he can do the same nonsense and get AAA hitters out. If that’s the case then what do you do?
How does one survive giving up 7 walks?
No no-no.
Pete – just got in from work – I hope you had a good time with your family yesterday.
1. The Steinbrenners would have to be nuts not to bring back Cash. I think Cash will look around, gather his numbers, and wait for them to be topped by Hank and Hal, not to mention George. And they will give him the best offer. They know it’s in their best interests to keep him in the fold.
2. Interesting about Tabata suddenly finding his stroke. Maybe IPK should call him for tips about dealing with adversity.
3. Boston is beating up Detroit. I’m watching because I like baseball, and am certainly rooting for Detroit here, but the Yankees have to take care of their own business at this point in the season. If they do that, then what the standings will take care of itself.
Rebecca do I hear congratulations are in order? I didn’t read through the thread, just saw everyone giving congrats.
jen: I successfully defended my thesis!
So in the past few weeks, I’ve finished my thesis, got into grad school and defended said thesis! Whoo!
Dice-K has given up 7 walks and hasn’t been bitten yet?
I hope Kennedy goes down there and starts to attack hitters. Once he realizes that’s what made him successful in the first place, he should be able to pull himself together some.
Melancon: 2.0 3 0 0 0 1 0 3.00 GO/FO 5-0
8 walks for him in this game. Unbelievable
Congrats Rebecca!
Congrats Rebecca!! I just did the bear minimum in college, never had to do any of that. Although my last class in college was a huge project that encompassed everything we learned.
how the hell does Matsuzaka walk 8 guys and throw 109 pitches through 5 innings but only give up 1 run? He has starts like that all the time too.
If any of our guys had walked 8 and thrown 109 pitches through 5 innings the opposing team would have like 7 or 8 runs.
I defended my dinner from the dog.
jen: Except for my thesis, I did exactly that!
wow so detroit has 1 good outfielder now.
Matsuzaka has the ability to be a “good” pitcher when he is having a bad game. He just has the ability to figure it out. He’s had a lot of experience and is good at what he does. I don’t think there is any other way to explain it.
holy crap felix pie
Wow…
I know this is a baseball blog, but I just saw this up @ espn.com…
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/.....id=3382026
Marvin Harrison, the supposed ‘good guy’ of the NFL, looks like he is in for a load of trouble. They have linked the shell casings from the shooting last week to the .50 cal he owns.
There’s nothing about this Red Sox game that a little dose of Julian Tavarez can’t fix.
You mean Freddy Kruger.
David Robertson had a rough debut at Scranton: 1.2 innings 2 hits 2 runs and 2 walks (and a hit batsman). Betances pitched 5.2 innings, 3 hits, 3 runs, 7 walks.
Will Ian last 2 innings in AAA? Probably not.
first year learning to repeat mechanics for Betances it’s expected, Robertson was not helped by Duncan’s throwing error that’s where the 2 runs came from, they pulled him after the single to RF, Melancon in A ball GO/AO 5-0 w/ a K….now that’s a line
Wilkins De La Rosa
2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K’s
GO/AO 1:3, 1.00 ERA
13.3 IP scoreless for De La Rosa
Welcome back Tabata and AJack
There is no show on the planet better than house.
But there was a no takesy backsies clause in that contract …
I know, right? I mean, Cuddy could get fired!
Couldn’t agree more, Rebecca. Haven’t seen that much this year (TIVO i spiled up) due to travels working on a death penalty case. But looking forward to them.

oh god Joe
Wow, Yankees fan woman drove into two Sox fans early Friday morning.
Hope there’s nobody called Ivonne Hernandez in this group.
I’m trying to study for my Constitutional Law final on wednesday and have come to the realization that my professor … didn’t teach us half this stuff. Awesome. But I did learn that Greg House is my sarcastic hero.
First: Congratulations, Rebecca!
Next: IPK is a quality pitcher. Under ideal circumstances, he would have started the season under less pressure and things might have been different. By pressure, I mean the injuries, the poor hitting, etc.
From the interviews I’ve seen, he’s a great kid. You know, so’s Rasner. I think the Yanks have an exit strategy for this malaise, and it is now being enacted.
This Year: Death penalty? Dang, that’s pretty serious. Won’t get into my own views on the matter (unless you want me to) but I hope there’s a good outcome.
Brandon: LMAO!
Rob: Yeah, my law professor gave us the option of taking the final or counting the midterm twice. I chose the latter.
Rob NY,
IRAC, IRAC, IRAC.
does anyone wonder why the Yankees aren’t stealing bases? They’ve stolen only 12 bases this year while their opponents have stolen 38. I guess some of this can be attributed to players a year older, and an unstable catching situation but it seems like a steep drop off. Just for the sake of comparison, Boston has 26 so far this year. Last year, the Yankees were 7th in the league in stolen bases, this year they’re 23rd.
Surprise, surprise Torre over using Proctor again along with another reliever.
Kershaw with his own set of rules……..lol
I am on the side of truth, justice and the American way– if not the Alabama way. I represent a mentally retarded inmate, although the great state of Alabama has, since Atkins, refused to accept the fact that anyone is MR. BUt the last several years traveling the highways and byways of the deep south has been like living a Grisham novel. Coming to a head in 5 plus weeks.
damn Oli Perez took a line drive to the stomach
Yeah eric im so sick of IRAC I just want it to be May 15th so I can crack open my bottle of Bookers. Issue Rule Analysis Conclusion has me watching yankee games saying “Well if the giambi hits a foul ball to the right side and hits a fan is that negligence on the part of the yankees? I mean they had a duty to protect the fan, breached it, but for them the fan wouldnt have a lumped up head, but the fan may have Expressly assumed the risks of giambi not being able to hitting it to left field. Conclusion he likely has no claim against the Yankees.”
Law school makes me see IRAC every-freaking-where
eric: The Yankees don’t have a lot of base stealers on their team. Johnny, Derek and Bobby can all go, but after that it’s hit or miss, and Molina/Moeller/Giambi you don’t want running in ANY circumstance
Hey this year are mentally disabled people held to the same level of reasonableness or I guess accountability as the rest of us for criminal liability?
I wouldn’t be surprised if IPK gets another opportunity in NY this month.
BTW, I heard Mike on WFAN today when he said something like the Yankees won’t let kids learn on the job. I don’t think Mike meant it the way some here have portrayed.
In context, I think Mike was saying the Yankees won’t let a kid go a whole year with an 8.0 ERA and chalk it up to learning/development — that “learning on the job” can only be stretched so far on a team trying to compete. I actually don’t think he was out of step with what many here have stated.
hope he does well and gets a little confidence booster in the process.
Rob NY, no, it is unconstitutional since 2002 to execute mentally retarded persons due to the Supreme Court case in Atkins. But all the Death Belt states now refuse to concede that anyone is mentally retarded and because 90% of people with MR are mildly mentally retarded (IQs between 55-70) and are virtually indistinguishable fro the rest of us physically, the DEath Belt sates prey on the stereotypes lurking in peoples’ minds (including judges) to deny that they are MR. Tried one in Virginia 2 years ago and Alabama in a few weeks.
states prey– i am a horrible typist
rebecca:
You’re right, but the Yankees’ personal hasn’t really changed from last year when they were stealing fairly often. I figured with Girardi’s NL mentality, he might try to get a little more aggressive. With A-Rod and Posada down, it might not hurt to try and manufacture some runs.
rob:
in NY it is a defense to a crime if the defendant lacked substantial capacity to know or appreciate either
1. the nature and consequences of such conduct; or
2. that such conduct was wrong
[i think.]
oops i meant “personnel.”
Yeah Eric I would think if you didn’t somehow take into account the person’s mental capacity it would cause kind of due process situation.
rob ny- i have the same test on wednesday. you dont go to SULS do you?
lol matter of fact I do Rich.
holy crap- you have wilton?
Nah, I have Landers.
This Year: My side, then. I wish the best of luck…and am really happy I live in a state that’s finally decided to get rid of the DP.
nice- small world. good luck. im actually a boston fan but i wont hold it against you
maybe we can discuss baseball over beers at beantown some time.
What section are you in? Yeah good luck to you too, I dont know how Wilton is but suffice it to say Landers didn’t exactly give us a roadmap of what we need to know. I’m sort of teaching myself the whole of Commerce Clause and Due Process on the fly. She was all about discussing Equal Protection though.
Yeah, sounds like a plan. I remember in the fall I came within an inch of losing my life the day of the parade. I came up out of the park street T station in my A-Rod Jersey and my authentic hat and got an F— the yankees chant from a few hundred people lol.
Rebecca, I will need the luck. Not a hospitable climate down there. Also, considerable pressure not to screw up given what is at stake. Good luck on your career.
Rebecca-
Congrats on grad school, is it Fordham???
This Year: If there’s anything I can do to help, feel free to let me know. It’s heinous, what people in parts of this country can legally do…
Buddy: Yep!
This Year – Are you working with the Southern Poverty Law Center. They are a great organization if so have done some great work and even when not successful they take up the good fight so to speak.
Thanks, Rebecca.
Is all this talk about the death penalty on a post about IPK getting demoted to SWB a coincidence or one HUGE Freudian slip?
Geesh – I’ve been to Scranton and it isn’t that bad
im in 5a- and i work full time. wiltons not bad, a little to liberal for me. remember for commerce clause- use wickard and darby analysis. i have a good excel spreadsheet with all the tests that id be happy to email you.
theres a ton of yanks fans at suls so you guys dont have it too bad…
Gayle, I am using as an ineffective assistance of counsel expert an ex-SPLC attorney. Great guy. Also work closely with Equal Justice Initiative out of Montgomery, AL.
TKinDC, no, just a coincidence. Come to think of it though, Pennsylvania is one of the few states above the Death Belt which has the death penalty. Better pitch well, IPK!
RNStephens@suffolk.edu
Every little bit helps. Thanks a whole lot Rich.
anyone watching the Dodgers game I mean Billingsley is putting the Mets to sleep
rob ny- sent
Nice Rebecca, you must be so proud of yourself, now all you need is that internship with the Yankees or MLB in Manhattan.
Buddy: Not proud, but really happy and relieved.
Now, to find somewhere to live…
Ollie Perez is not having a good night..
So I guess tomorrow the Mets fans will be venting on talk radio..oh joy
oh Proctor warming up ..how many innings is this gonna be for him
Okay, I might now be emotionally scarred for life:

Considering Dice-K’s pitch counts leading to lack of inning eating, Red-Sox’ huge investment on Dice-K would be destined in vain. They pay him to exhaust his arms.
How a pitcher issues 8 walks in only 5 innings can ugly steal a win is a mystery. But only in Red-Sox. Not in New York. At least Ian or Phil has been not so damned lucky.
Andrew Jones looks like shh… out there
Rich and RobNY – as someone who is 1 exam away from finishing law school, my one piece of advice for Con Law is that Chemerinsky will teach you all you need to know. I almost went to SULS but then got into a school in NY. Good luck!
Pete,
Thank you for providing law students a forum in which studying can be avoided. I must say that this blog has been invaluable to me for the last 2 semesters. Classes go by much faster when hitting refresh every two minutes.
Beverly Hills Chihuahua? What the hell?
eric: Not just law students. Medieval history students as well!
Eric, I second that.
well stay away from WFAN tonight.

Some good pitching going on. What’s with Lee this year? And check out the Angels duo.
mel: We get Wang vs Lee on Wednesday. Should be interesting.
Rebecca,
Huh. Two Chinese pitchers going at it.
Lee’s SO:BB ratio is 16:1
I don’t think Lee is Chinese
This isn’t him?

Oh, Rebecca, that’s why I love you. So young and…gullible!
“Oh, Rebecca, that’s why I love you. So young and…gullible!”
LOL
Steven,
• The last Red Sox pitcher to walk eight and win was Jim Lonborg. He did so on July 22, 1968 at Yankee Stadium.
Well.. thats a long time ago.Congrats DIce-K san.
if you can’t LOL to this I’m sorry you have no humor

Brandon,
The best is the slow-mo shot of Ernie at the wheel.
