A-Rod’s rehab plan takes shape

Peter Abraham

If you’re one of the many people (based on the e-mails) hoping Alex Rodriguez will play a rehab game or two at Trenton or Scranton, you’re probably out of luck.

The tentative plan for A-Rod is to fly to Tampa on Thursday and pick up the pace of the workouts at the team complex over the weekend.

If all goes well, he would play for Single-A Tampa on Monday and Tuesday then rejoin the Yankees on Wednesday.

The Single-A team team is home on Monday and Tuesday and the Yankees are in Florida to play the Rays for four games starting on Monday. Given that the Yankees are playing in Florida, it would make little sense for A-Rod to go to New Jersey or Pennsylvania for rehab games.

The Yankees have their best trainers and rehab guys in Tampa as well.

No word yet on what Jorge Posada will do. He’s still a few weeks away from getting to that point.

C’mon, Scrantonians, you got Wilson Betemit.

Please don’t make fun of Betemit. He’s my favorite player.

Pete: I saw your piece on ESPN…good job!

  2. jay destro

i was actually hoping for trenton.

  3. NJ in Tampa

hmm this almost makes it tempting for me to go to the Tampa Yankees game on Monday and then the rest of the real games Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

i was rooting for trenton too….hahahaha

how awesome is it going to be for those single A kids to look down the dugout and see Alex Rodriguez playing in a game with them….thats great!

I just hope he isn’t rushing back because of the state of the offense.

If you rush it (which he did the last time) and tear the quad tendon (like Tuilawiski did in Colorado), you are looking at 2-3 months.

I would love to have him back in the lineup. But, only if he is 100%.

Anything less? I’d rather he sit.

I can’t wait for A-Rod to return so the team can stop relying so heavily on Giambi’s bat. Last night’s game was there for the taking in the first inning, but the offense wasn’t able to come through, but with a healthy Rodriguez hitting cleanup followed by Matsui and (god wiling) Cabrera could make for a more potent lineup. Also, I was pretty dissapointed to hear that fans booed Joba for giving up the lead runs, newsflash guys: Joba will lose games, but he’s probably going to win a heck of a lot more so try not to get down on the guy for screwing up once.

Why would fans expect A-Rod to make a rehab start at Scranton? It was mentioned during the game last night that A-Rod was heading to Tampa for rehab and will indeed join the team mid-week.

  8. TurnTwo

Cant be SJ… no way he screws up Tulo’s name that bad.

  9. jennifer

Would they do another mri to make sure it is healing properly before letting him start rehab?

  10. al arodien

Great cant wait to see him back!

  11. Dan

Well that stinks, I was really hoping to get a chance to meet Arod. Posada has a better chance to rehab in either Double or Triple-A anyway.

When Giambi was rehabbing last summer, the crowd was great. Can you imagine what it would be like if Arod played a game or two in Scranton? madness.

  12. William Buckner

It was great for roger too. Memorial day no less.

  13. Kevin

Alright if Scranton got Betemit and Tampa gets ARod can Trenton get Jorge. That would be a game I would surely go to myself.

Beautiful – I’m going to the game in Tampa on tuesday night……. I might have to make the trip Monday to see A-Rod!!

Good luck A-Rod in your attempt to start over (former Stetson University great) Braedyn Pruitt at 3rd base.

  16. RonH

We got Wilson, but still want to show A-Rod the metropolis that is Moosic, PA!!!

If they are serious about him playing rehab starts Monday, I agree that makes the most sense.

I would err more on the side of caution and have him take a few extra days. He could play rehabs Wednesday/Thursday in Trenton and meet back up with the team in NYC for the Mets series starting Friday.

  18. Barry

Us Wilkes-Barrians were happy with Shelley Duncan.

    i wanted charleston, lol

Various types of programs help in drug rehabilitation, including: residential treatment, local support groups, extended care centers, and sober houses.
