Update on A-Rod’s status

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on May 07, 2008 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Joe Girardi gave us an update on Alex Rodriguez’s status after the game.

He will have an MRI in Tampa next week, probably Monday or Tuesday, to determine how his leg has healed. If he is cleared, he will then play in two extended spring training games. If that goes well, he would then rejoin the Yankees.

Now here’s the tricky part.

It turns out that A-Rod is not eligible to be activated until May 15. His last game was April 28. But Rodriguez was not placed on the disabled list until April 30.

The simple version: If everything goes well, he could play next Thursday.

Did someone screw up on the timing of putting A-Quad on the DL or was the severity of the injury just not known?

To state the obvious, a little right handed thunder would have been helpful tonight.

Joe Girardi lied earlier! He can’t handle NY media! This would never have happenned to Torre! The sky is falling!

The Yanks will win tomorrow, they seem to always win on getaway day.

    Pete,

Can’t you go on the DL retroactively? I know it’s done with starters all the time. Or is it just during spring training

he was probably on the line-up card those 2 days, that’s the only thing I can think of

Schadenfreude: Papelbon blew a save, Tigers win.

hope the Yankees can win tomorrow, but at least I’ll have something to watch while packing.

    Hal:

Yes, retroactive is fine. But there was a roster issue of some sort I’m still trying to figure out that prohibited that.

This A-Rod Yesterdays show is SO GAY!!!! Alex looks like he wants to run off the set or atleast drop kick Micheal Gay.

For the first time this year I am buying into Pete’s “one step back, two step forward” business. I just cannot see this team the way they are playing now, making the play offs. I understand this is a second half team but still.

Even though its early, I just dont have that feeling. Just my two cents.

Dr Cox – once we get back the two key righties AR and JP, after a few weeks if the offense still hasn’t kicked it into gear, I’ll be ready to agree with that feeling. But, like last year, this offense has the potential to carry the team through with some shaky pitching. But I think the bullpen will be solid with guys like Farnsworth, Ohlendorf, Veras, Ramirez, Albaladejo, Britton — at least a couple of those guys are very likely to step up to the plate this year.

michael kay is the worst the yesnetwork treats him like he is bob costas or something. why they cant get someone esle to host these corny shows is beyond me. the whole network is a joke the only thing thats good is yankeeography and the psotgame show. sny has been around for what 2 yrs and it is way better.

I don’t think the show is gay it’s kind of interesting, maybe because I’m in South Florida right now and I played games against West Minister (sp?) and Piper in high school. They need to change the gay music though.

The WM field is pretty nice, I heard that A-Rod dumped a lot of money into it, they made some nice improvements, but the track is behind the right field wall and actually cuts through right center field and there’s a huge gate that opens up to they can run on the track. Besides that it’s a pretty nice field

Good as soon as we can get some of the dead wood out of the lineup the better. ie. Ensberg, Betemit..

it’s funny how everyone (including myself) is like sweet he plays monday and tuesday and we activate him Wednesday…. completely forgetting about the silly 15-day thing lol

According to the official transactions listed on the Yankee website it was retroactive

Placed INF Alex Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list with a Grade 2 strain of his right quadriceps, retroactive to April 29

Although I won’t for the best, Arod wasn’t lighting it up with runners on base when he was playing, so I don’t expect a miracle once he’s back.

    “won’t” is code for hope

  22. Tampa May 8th, 2008 at 11:19 am

I’m in Tampa for the next couple of weeks, any idea where A-rod will be getting his at bats and if fans can watch. I heard something about Himes Avenue complex, not sure where that is though.
