Excellent blog post, Mike. I agree 100 percent. Joba being Joba is just like Manny being Manny. Let’s accept these 2 free spirits for what they are. They enjoy what they do. Let’s enjoy it with them. A lot of people here are too caught up in Manny wearing a Red Sox uniform. I’ll be the first to admit it: He’s fun to watch! Just like Joba.

I was listening to the show last year. Francesca must have been on vacation, because I seem to remember only Russo. A caller talked about Joba going to the rotation, and Russo went on a rant about how can you try and convert him to a starter now. Russo didn’t even know that he WAS a starter who converted to the pen.

I’ve met Russo a few times at Springsteen concerts. In person, he’s actually a pretty nice guy, but his schtick on the radio is old.

I’m disappointed to see so many Yankee writers and fans tee-ing off on Joba. His pump is for no one but himself. Back off.

The fact that Delucci didn’t like it cracks me up. Who cares? Bush league? The fact that he’s whining is what’s bush.

How else can a pitcher release emotion? Hitters run bases, and work off emotion post-dinger with hops, screams and claps. That’s emotion, not something aimed at the pitcher. Posing at the plate, well…

Don’t fuel the fire, just let the kid pitch!

I know you’re being “diplomatic” with your comments about Fatso and Fruitloops, but for the benefit of those outside the listening area who may not know the agony of being subjected to the constant flow of moronic dribble that pours out of these two daily, they are among the least informed sports talk show hosts in the business. When Joba came up, they didn’t even know who he was.

My solution: Don’t listen to Fatso & Fruitloops!

i just happen to be listening to the FAN, yesterday and heard the comments made about joba. they loss all credibility with this argument as soon as they compared joba (being joba) to manny ramirez.

does anyone remember the game last year or the season before, when manny was on second, the red sox batter hit a single into the field and manny, dramatically chose to slide into third base face first?

now i don’t believe thats showing someone up as much as it is being an idiot. unless you’re referring to manny’s dominance (at the plate), him and joba should never be compared in the same sentence.

I was at the game and missed Joba’s histrionics because I was engaged in my own mini-celebration. And I agree that M&MD are overboard on this.

But they are very right about Abreu’s misplaying two balls near the wall that cost the Yanks runs. Bubba Crosby, David Delluci, Shelly Duncan would hae fearlessly caught those balls. Paul O’Neill would have gone through the wall.
