Girardi puts the mask back on

May
13

That Joe Girardi is one hands-on manager.

As I write this from The Trop, he’s in the bullpen catching Andrew Brackman. Humberto Sanchez is warming up next.

They had to put a screen behind Girardi because Brackman was all over the place. Bu that’s to be expected considering he’s coming off surgery.

haha joe g is the man

  2. Jason

Can he still hit too? Can they activate him?

  3. Jon L

How about Girardi as player/manager, he might be an upgrade at back up catch, (obviously I’m joking even though he probably would be)

  4. jay destro

    i bet he can hit

  5. mel

    I love Joe G.

Although with Brackman on the mound he should be in hockey gear.

Good to see the young guns back in the saddle.

I’m anxious to see what Sanchez will end up to be. Seems like there’s a lot of potential there. We can finally close the books on the Sheffield trade, even though we won the minute he cleared his locker.

  6. Vince

wow, that is so cool. Pete, this has to be the best part of the job, the behind-the-curtain sort of stuff.

  7. Francis The Praying Mantis

Joe Girardi is so gangsta, just knowing himself makes him affiliated.

    A-rod news:

So when does he get activated? Does he have to be activated after the 15 days to avoid another DL?

I thought this post was about Joe putting on the proverbial mask again and not answering questions.

I wonder what the plans are for Humberto? He was one of the top pitching prospects just last year and many people thought he could be at least a three. I wonder if they’ll leave him as a starter or try to make him a reliever. If his arm is that good I’d prefer to see him starting.

  10. Brandon (supporting "Alex being Alex") (J.Santana HR allowed count: 8 )

alright Humberto is throwing, Pete is Christian Garcia around there.

  11. S.A.-Just win games and trade Igawa for a candy bar

    Rock on Girardi

  12. Owlnation

erm… I seem to be the only dissenting voice here so far…

I worry about Girardi. We’re under .500 and this is the best thing he can find to do right now? Isn’t there better ways he can spend his time? You know, like ones that are his actual job?

Managing is a bit more than deciding the line-up by throwing a dice each night, and being difficult with reporters.

  13. Brandon (supporting "Alex being Alex") (J.Santana HR allowed count: 8 )

raymagnetic coming off TJS he would need to be in the BP in year 1 off it. Joba to the rotation is more likely.

  14. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Girardi could probably still hit, yeah.

  15. Fredo Corleone

    “i bet he can hit”

Not if his playing career is any indication.

  16. S.o.S.27

“Can he still hit too? Can they activate him?”

Unless he’s on hgh now. The answer is no. Never was that good of a hitter. But he is in better shape than most of the team.

    mel,
Is Kobe going to be o.k. I heard his teammates were mad at him not passing in o.t. You better hope that back doesnt linger throughout the playoffs.

This is an exciting playoffs. All the teams but one down 0-2 has tied it. I hope the Spurs saved some of that fight for N.O.

  17. lurker

you knew it was coming. im still waiting for the day Molina Moeller and Duncan all pull their hamstrings in the first couple innings.

  18. jennifer

Maybe Brackman is nervous throwing to his future manager :)

  19. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Did you all see the Celtics-Cavs game last night and that dunk?

  20. Brandon (supporting "Alex being Alex") (J.Santana HR allowed count: 8 )

TRENTON – Five games in the Thunder bullpen was enough to convince the Yankees that reliever J.B. Cox was ready to move on to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Highly-regarded Class-A right-hander Mark Melancon has been added to a Trenton relief corps that has lost David Robertson, Bo Hall and now Cox over the past two weeks.

    How does Sanchez look Pete?

  22. raymagnetic â„¢

    Brandon,

I don’t mean for this year with Humberto. I’m talking about next year and beyond. I don’t think he necessarily has to be put in the pen coming back from Tommy John. Especially since he’ll most likely be in the minors to start the year.

  23. S.o.S.27

“I thought this post was about Joe putting on the proverbial mask again and not answering questions.”

I thought the same thing. I hope Sanchez can help sometime this year in the pen.

Raymagnetic. I’v been reading your comments for awhile now and i noticed something. Hmmm hasnt been posting(big fan)and you have the same style as he does. Are you one in the same? Superman to Clark Kent? You can tell me. I wont say nothing. WINK ONCE FOR YES AND TWICE FOR NO.

  24. raymagnetic â„¢

S.os, trust me, I’m no hmmm. Hmmm is one of the best and funniest posters around this blog.

  25. S.o.S.27

    Rebecca,
Yes. It was a nasty dunk. But what caught my eye even more is Lebrons mom jumping in when her son was dragged out of the court. I thought she was going to throw down.Pretty funny and embarrassing.

So do you think my Wings will win it all? Or will Crosby take it from them?

  26. saucY

Owlnation, what should Girardi be doing now?

i’m kinda glad to hear he has such an interest in tomorrows pitchers….

  27. raymagnetic â„¢

“Five games in the Thunder bullpen was enough to convince the Yankees that reliever J.B. Cox was ready to move on to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.”

This tells me that Joba’s move to the rotation is coming soon. JB Cox and David Robertson you’re the next contestants on the Bullpen is right.

  28. Jimmy

Tell our 19-20 manager to start getting this offense to, you know, hit.

  29. Brandon (supporting "Alex being Alex") (J.Santana HR allowed count: 8 )

yes some good news..it begins

  30. mel

    SoS,

His teammates were mad? Well, maybe they shouldn’t have stood around waiting for him to save them with a bad back. They were deferential in regulation and mad after he gets them to OT? Maybe if they helped a little more there wouldn’t be an issue. Can’t get on LO too much for missing FTs. He had a monster game.

If they have issues, then he should tell them to sit their azzes down like LeBron told his momma.

I’m worried about his back. But the objective is to win one game at a time. We’ll see on Wednesday.

Can the Spurs steal one in N’Orleans?

  31. S.o.S.27

    Brandon,
What do you think of the Dantoni hiring?I thought they should have went after Johnson instead or even a Jackson. I guess anything is better than what they had.

  32. Axel

Activate Giardi and re-sign Brosius. ARod/Posada problem solved. Next…

  33. saucY

    “Brandon,
What do you think of the Dantoni hiring?”

    uh oh… :|

  34. mel

WINK ONCE FOR YES AND TWICE FOR NO.

    Hey! This sounds familiar!

  35. mel

    saucY,

“Can the Spurs steal one in N’Orleans?”

I dont know. I think those fans wearing those yellow shirts(might be orange, cant trust my t.v. settings)are blinding our shooters. I hope that the inexperienced squads confidence is down and we can steel this one. Can we agree that Tony Parker is one of the most under rated guards in the game. He is killing them.

Do you live in so.cal? Because i dont know if the guys on the radio are making this Kobe thing more than it is.

  38. saucY

is that guy on the pringles can, or the monopoly guy?

  39. S.o.S.27

    “Hey! This sounds familiar!”

Yeah. But has it ever worked?

    saucy,
    Did i say something wrong?

  40. Brandon (supporting "Alex being Alex") (J.Santana HR allowed count: 8 )

pringles = O’foni and his mustache

  41. saucY

sos, not at all. just a sore subject (see comments in joba/goose thread)

  42. S.o.S.27

    Brandon,
LOL!! I dont know if thats Dantoni or Thomas. We are accepting applications in the spurs bandwagon.

  43. Russell NY

Can Girardi take the field for todays game against Tampa?

  44. Paul Deres

I am really tired of acting in some “approved way” and looking good losing in the first round of the playoffs. These folks who are wrapped up in the Yankee image I guess would rather lose looking like Yankees than win with some enthuusian. Old Joe is gone along with the sleepy image of the team. New Joe wants to win and doesnt really care how we look doing it. I’m with him. These sports casters sound like they are 100 years old when they berate Joba and others. If Dellucci was in Cleveland when he hit the home run he would have gotten a curtian call. Is that not showing up the pitcher who just delivered the home run ball? They need to just get over it and let Joba be Joba. He is one of the very few bright spots we have this year.

  45. NYSuperFan

    Love Joe G….thats awesome!!

  46. Girardi on the DL

Face it, the Knicks have not been good in a while. When you have a change in coaching, why wouldn’t you go with something different than a similar style that hasn’t been working? The team is going to be dismantled and rebuilt, but don’t expect to see a winning season for a bit longer. This change will take a while to build.

Kobe seemed to be hurting pretty well. He was showing it more and more throughout the last game. He can’t move like he normally does.

I have to wonder if LeBron is hurting a bit too. He has been hit hard throughout the playoffs, and that might account for his poor shooting stats.

  47. Slu

Girardi could never hit, so there is no way he can “still” hit.

  48. DLev

“Old Joe is gone along with the sleepy image of the team. ”

So true. Joba didn’t do any of that fist-pumping last year, Melky and Cano never traded chest bumps, and of course that was the reason they went out in the first round. Good thing we’ve got the new Joe to change all that.

  49. CountryClub

Yes, Joba did do the fist pump last year. Melky & Cano did their antics in and out of the dugout and Shelly, as we all know, did his forearm bash. Torre leaving has nothing to do with any of this.
