While the yankees are not comprised of the swiftest afoot players, there are a few who can run.Damon,Jeter,Abreu can run. I don't vote for suicidal running, but some aggression on the paths can change defensive mind sets. There are times when threat is almost as effective as an attempt. Damon, Jeter, Abreu, Matsui all can hit to contact yet seldom is there a hit and run. A defense asuming a hit and run operates differently than one knowing there won't be a hit and run.
Attempting to steal makes the defense do additional work. Believing a player may steal, changes a pitcher. Believing a player may steal, often changes the pitch call, often the pitchers delivery. The same goes when there is a belief the hit and run in on.
Aggression on the path takes pitchers and catchers out of their comfort level.
I have always felt that good offensive teams force defenses to do work. Good offensive teams make a defense make the extra throw, make the extra catch, and apply the extral tag. knowing they face aggression ofen forces mistakes. Mistakes turn innings into big innings. A team must run enough successful or not to in the least instill the possibility. There is so much more to offense than simply making contact with a ball and bat.
It seems the yankee team is running scared, scared to make an out. Beleif in their own abilities seems lacking. It seems it is the managers job to instill belief, he isn't. these guys don't believe they have the ability to overcome a mistake. You can't play good baseball without confidence, they seem to have none. Success breeds success, failure breeds failure,Girardi at least on occasion start a runner.

Yawn...

Oh. I just woke up....

Season 25% over??? Yankees 20-21??? Last year they were....17-24 around now???

I guess I'll go back to sleep until about July 25th. Until then, let Girardi find out what he has this year.

I'm not sure what they have yet pitching wise, although it appears that Moose and Pettitte are impersonating each other right now.

Not hitting??? Yeah, when Morgan Ensberg is your 3B, and Jose (Ole) Molina is your C, what did you expect??? OBPs in the .400s?

SJ44 @ 3:42...
I for one am not saying Brett is better then Johnny, never have. Johnny has some trade value, and is not doing what we need of him, speed on the bases. Brett would give us speed (to burn) good eye (very little power) and a good OBP. I for one have seen this guy play many many times, and he is good...not Johnny a few years ago, but good. As to stats not translating to the big time, must I remind you there are many ballplayers that have hit better in a higher league then the one they were at. He will make a good 4th OF, for the NYY, maybe more in the NL. We need someone to get excited about, hence...Brett. Why not? 27/08

The yankees need to run. With Arod and Posada out, they need to create offensive opportunities. I would rate Joe an F in that department. Overall a C-.
