do we skip Rasner now ?

  2. Rishi May 16th, 2008 at 7:09 pm

excellent – no need to kill ourselves on a slick field

  3. S.A.- I still believe in this team. But they need to wake up. May 16th, 2008 at 7:11 pm

    No game? Okay

  4. Buddy Biancalana May 16th, 2008 at 7:12 pm

    DH tomorrow?

  5. Dewey May 16th, 2008 at 7:12 pm

There better not be a double header tomorrow, I have plans to see Stone Temple Pilots.

  6. Aaron May 16th, 2008 at 7:12 pm

    wtf?

    The radar is clearing

    What sense does this make?

  7. Rishi May 16th, 2008 at 7:13 pm

no make up scheduled yet (they flashed the stadium scoreboard on SNY)

  8. Drive 4-5 May 16th, 2008 at 7:14 pm

I hope they dont skip Rasner. I doubt if they would. He’s pitched great and there’s no reason to do anything to hurt his confidence.

  9. Kevin May 16th, 2008 at 7:15 pm

Go figure…they wait until game time to announce it. Oh well, doubleheader tomorrow I guess?

  10. Matt May 16th, 2008 at 7:15 pm

The same thing they pulled as opening night. They’ll claim they didn’t realize it would stop raining when it stops raining in an hour and is clear all night long. It’s always about the money and always will be, which is a shame. They wait for the fans to file in, pay parking and concessions, and then don’t let anyone know it’s cancelled until they’ve already contributed to the coffers.

All they do is tout their “great drainage” on the field and then they continue to pull crap like this. Too bad. I feel really bad for the fans who went to the game tonight, especially the ones from far away. I had it happen to me once with game 2 of the 2006 ALDS, which they didn’t tell us was cancelled until almost 10:00 PM, and believe me, it’s not fun at all.

  11. Rishi May 16th, 2008 at 7:16 pm

    Washington winning in Baltimore

  12. Aaron May 16th, 2008 at 7:16 pm

    I agree Matt

What an awful way to treat your fans

  13. JoeT - hit the ball!! May 16th, 2008 at 7:17 pm

boo!! We have our summer opener tomorrow afternoon so i’m going to miss the game, plus no game today!?! what am i going to do??

On the other hand – this team can use as many rain outs as we can get. Maybe the split double header in each stadium??

  14. 2008 Yankees May 16th, 2008 at 7:17 pm

I smell another Subway Series DH

  15. Shepherd May 16th, 2008 at 7:18 pm

i never thought about that matt that is pretty crappy.. shows how baseball really is just a business

  16. mel May 16th, 2008 at 7:19 pm

Well, at least my son got to sit in the stands and had a great view of the…tarp.

It’s the best thing for the players (spoiled, pampered athletes) and Willie lives to manage another day.

Time to cheer for the National League.

  17. CaptainsCorner May 16th, 2008 at 7:20 pm

Yanks are skipping Rasner. So we get a better match up tomorrow is Pettite vs. Santana, then Sunday Wang vs. Perez The game will be made up later in the year I guess when both teams are home or a common off day.

  18. Rishi May 16th, 2008 at 7:21 pm

so is that regular rest for Santana? I’m confused with how they keep moving him around

  19. JoeT - hit the ball!! May 16th, 2008 at 7:22 pm

SNY is playing is playing the first subway series game – June 16th, 1997 – Andy Pettitte vs. Dave Miliki

  20. Brian from PA May 16th, 2008 at 7:22 pm

    this sucks.

  21. Joe from Long Island May 16th, 2008 at 7:22 pm

I hate to say it…But it’s probably for the best. It’s cold and nasty outside. The last thing we need is someone else pulling a hamstring or quad on wet turf.

    But I do miss baseball.

    When’s the DH?

  22. Pinstripes May 16th, 2008 at 7:23 pm

“I had it happen to me once with game 2 of the 2006 ALDS, which they didn’t tell us was cancelled until almost 10:00 PM, and believe me, it’s not fun at all.”

That’s funny, I got to go to that make-up game because some of my friends couldn’t get get the day off work to go.

  23. A.B.K May 16th, 2008 at 7:23 pm

    Rumor:
I heard a rumor that the makeup date might be next Month when Yankees play Mets at Shea and they’ll play a split day/night doubleheader 1 at Shea and 1 at Yankee Stadium. (in 2000 they did so).

  24. Fredo Corleone May 16th, 2008 at 7:23 pm

Both teams are off Monday. Yanks in NYC Tuesday while Mets are to be in Atl.

Could happen Monday afternoon. Heard Girardi say tomorrow’s weather report wasn’t favorable for a DH. They could play 1 PM on Sunday ahead of the 8 PM ESPN game.

  25. Drive 4-5 May 16th, 2008 at 7:24 pm

The only good reason I can think of for skipping Rasner this weekend would be to take Kennedy’s start on Wednesday.

  26. EricNS May 16th, 2008 at 7:25 pm

Good – no pulled muscles on a cold night – maybe Johan will be too rested and not have sharp control.

  27. CaptainsCorner May 16th, 2008 at 7:25 pm

“so is that regular rest for Santana? I’m confused with how they keep moving him around”

Santana was supposed to pitch on Thursday, but the Mets who are so concerened with beating the Yanks moved him to Fri, so now he will be on 2 extra days rest instead of 1.

  28. Mark Alan May 16th, 2008 at 7:25 pm

Can we make this retroactive and skip Igawa?

Seriously, man, I just got a new cap, one of those retro models from a place called The Franchise.

It’s got an ’03 on the side, but they were the Highlanders then. I prefer to think of Babe Ruth.

  29. Mark May 16th, 2008 at 7:25 pm

Mets are playing dh already Tuesday, so that is probably why they don’t want to do a dh this weekend, or play on the off day Monday.

  30. stuart May 16th, 2008 at 7:25 pm

you guys are as expert on when to call games as your lineup critique and the other assorted expertise you have.

guys they cannot win. if they did not cancel the game now but did in 2 hours you would be whining just like you are now…

it is a cashman conspiracy to screw the most loyal fans in the world because the yanks do not want your money!!!!!!!!!!

    give them a break……

  31. pat May 16th, 2008 at 7:26 pm

Michael Kay said the game will not be made up this weekend.

  32. Drive 4-5 May 16th, 2008 at 7:26 pm

If they play Monday, you wonder if A Rod would become available to play a day early.

  33. JR Yankees May 16th, 2008 at 7:26 pm

I think this would be two extra days of rest for Santana. He was supposed to pitch Thursday since he last pitched on Saturday. Maybe two days of rest will ultimately effect him in a negative way…or atleast our lineup hopes. That’s what they get for moving him back a day so he could face the Yankees.

  34. CaptainsCorner May 16th, 2008 at 7:27 pm

The Mets didn’t want a DH tomorrow or Sunday because they have 1 against the Braves on Tuesday. Also it is supposed to rain tomorrow night.

  35. RyanH May 16th, 2008 at 7:29 pm

The Mets won’t due Monday, IMO. They have a doubleheader in Atlanta the next day and will probably want the off day.

  36. Jax May 16th, 2008 at 7:29 pm

The radar looks like it’s clearing. The Trenton Thunder are playing their game and it’s clear. Not exactly sure why they called it so quickly when it appears to be a window.

  37. 2008 Yankees May 16th, 2008 at 7:30 pm

    Fredo:

There is NO way the Mets will play anything on Monday, since they have a split DH on Tuesday. They play Sunday night against the Yankees and then will be on their way to Atlanta.

They will reschedule the game June 29 and do the split DH subway series type thing.

  38. Fredo Corleone May 16th, 2008 at 7:30 pm

As someone just said, Mets are playing 2 on Tuesday. May kill a chance at a DH on Sunday or a Monday game (A Saturday DH would be tough to manuever around FOX games).

If their next series is a weekend series, you’d think FOX woudl want some of that which would kill a Saturday back and forth DH. Maybe on that Sunday?

  39. mel May 16th, 2008 at 7:30 pm

    Mark Alan,

    Like 1903? That’s wild.

  40. Fran May 16th, 2008 at 7:31 pm

Drive 4-5 – Sterling and Waldman said that the Yanks are skipping Rasner tomorrow and that he would take Kennedy’s start as you suggested. Also said that Rasner may work out of the bullpen for an inning or 2 this weekend.

  41. JR Yankees May 16th, 2008 at 7:31 pm

I bet our lineup is hoping 2 extra days of rest for Santana will effect him negatively…can’t say I’m not wishing the same. That’s what they get for pushing him back a day in the first place to start against the Yanks instead of the Nats.

  42. Rishi May 16th, 2008 at 7:32 pm

So the vaunted Cleveland starters have already given up 2 to Cincy

  43. Sick of It May 16th, 2008 at 7:33 pm

At the risk of sounding like an old man: I am embarrassed that I am a season ticket holder and I contribute to the Yankees profits. How many times can they pull this before I get smart and tell this team to go pound sand. Its cold, raining and windy all day; no weather man in the country calls for a break; the Manager of the team goes on the radio around 5 and says that the weather report the team has looks very bad—and yet they open the doors at 5:30 and call the game at 7. An absolute abomination. I am done. One less payee next year. I know it doesn’t matter to them, but maybe if more people flex their spending dollar and stop accepting horrible customer service, the Team will get a clue. Sorry—

  44. mel May 16th, 2008 at 7:35 pm

I don’t like the split series between the two stadiums.

I prefer a mutually open date when we have Jorge (show ‘em what they missed) and Alex (show ‘em what $300M can buy). One where their closer’s taken over the managing job because Willie’s gone and Ryan has shown he can handle the media.

And maybe, just maybe by then, we’ll have an offense to match the good pitching we’ve gotten lately.

  45. Drive 4-5 May 16th, 2008 at 7:35 pm

    Fran,

It’s scary to think that I’m on the same wavelength as John Sterling, but I’m happy to hear that’s the plan.

But I do admit I’d love to do the call of Kei Igawa flying out of town…. “He is high… he is far…. he is GONNNNE!!!! “

  46. Pepitone May 16th, 2008 at 7:37 pm

Hey, why don’t they just drive over to Shea and play over there?

  47. Nick in SF May 16th, 2008 at 7:37 pm

The most equitable thing to do would be to make up the game when the Phil Hughes of 2 years from now can pitch against the Johan Santana of… wait, today? 2 years from now also? I’m confused.

  48. Tomer May 16th, 2008 at 7:37 pm

You know why this is actually good, Because if they reschedule it to later in the season(Day night Dh at shea and YS) then this will benefit us greatly. This is because we will have Posada and A-Rod back and we will probably not be in an offesnsive slump like we are right now.

  49. pat May 16th, 2008 at 7:37 pm

Girardi said with Mike and Dog this afternoon they don’t want to skip IPK’s turn.

When do they need a 5th starter next? Could they have decided to send him to AAA Tuesday to make room for Alex and let IPK pitch a few more starts down there until they need a 5th starter again?

  50. Fredo Corleone May 16th, 2008 at 7:38 pm

“So the vaunted Cleveland starters have already given up 2 to Cincy”

1st earned runs in 50+ innings for any Tribe pitcher not named Betancourt…..and it’s a AAA guy (Sowers) that is throwing. Reds may as well strike while they can before the Tribe pitches major leaguers again.

  51. David May 16th, 2008 at 7:40 pm

Sick of It, huge props for doing that. I cannot understand what the Yankees were thinking. I’m no meteorologist, but I went on weather.com this afternoon, went on the hour by hour Bronx forecast, and every hour of the day/night until tomorrow lists as something like 90% chance of precipitation. And they needed until 7:05 (comical that this is when they decide it needs to be canceled) to tell there wasn’t going to be a window to play it? What idiots. They should be ashamed the way they treated the fans on this one and they should issue an apology. No excuses. They were well aware this game wasn’t going to be played tonight and they mislead fans to think there was a chance of it being played. That’s bordering on fraud.

  52. Nick in SF May 16th, 2008 at 7:40 pm

And hey Mark Alan, how about a link to show that cap you’re talking about? I have a The Franchise Yankee cap, but it’s just the regular interlocking NY.

  53. Pepitone May 16th, 2008 at 7:42 pm

…or maybe a vacant lot in Yonkers?

  54. Kevin May 16th, 2008 at 7:48 pm

David I agree with you here, but they did it in Detroit as well. This a baseball wide problem as the owners are just looking for a way to make a profit and will screw the fans any way they can. It is honestly wrong what they are doing to the fans. What are they going to do when fans get onto their scheme?

  55. Drive 4-5 May 16th, 2008 at 7:49 pm

    I’m a HUGE National League fan…for tonight:)

The Nats & Phils hold leads over the Orioles and Blue Jays.

  56. Sick of It May 16th, 2008 at 7:50 pm

Kevin and David: I know other teams do it too (see Mets last week), but it does not matter–they are all wrong!

  57. Micky#7--Old Ranger May 16th, 2008 at 8:23 pm

    Laura @ 5:53 pre thread.
    Yes, we have two guys at AAA to play 1st base;
    Eric Duncan (23) hitting about .258/.374/.416, ops.790.
    Juan Miranda (25+/-) hitting; .267/.389/.367, ops. 756.
Eric is the better defender and is starting to come around. The word on Juan is; he can’t hit Lefties(very well) and his glove is Jason like. 27/08.

  58. Mark Baker May 16th, 2008 at 10:43 pm

“They wait for the fans to file in, pay parking and concessions, and then don’t let anyone know it’s cancelled until they’ve already contributed to the coffers.”

As much as I hate the Yankees profit machine, this isn’t true.

First, the parking isn’t owned by the Yanks and they don’t make a dime from it. Because the Yanks don’t have their own lot is the reason why they got the city to build them a VIP one for the new stadium.

Second, the canceling of games due to inclement weather is due to the ridiculous scheduling done by MLB. Because its so difficult to reschedule games, they have to do their best to get a game in – that unfortunately means dragging you all to the stadium and then telling you an hour in that the game’s been called.
