off topic

I had a house built and moved in last year. My neighbors gave me a bird feeder for Christmas and I have it hanging off the top deck (not sure why but I wanted a double deck.) I love watching the birds come and eat. In fact I have a very pretty winter shot of the feeder. If I can track it down I'll post it. Anyway, one of my sisters told me to put seed on the deck rails. Mistake. The squirrels decided to join the party! Not only that but they decided to hang onto the feeder and eat that seed too! So I went and bought them their own critter food. Mistake. It seems that big black crows and blue jays both like critter food! So I started feeling bad for the squirrels and the birds too so instead of putting food out once a day, I started putting it out twice a day - before I leave for work and when I get home. Mistake. They now wait for it. And they love to eat!!!

These little guys are costing me a fortune!

i'm afraid of david price...
2009-2012 probable Rays rotation:
Kazmir, Shields, Price, Garza/Jackson/Davis/McGee/Hammel/Niemann
yikes
plus if the rays are fringe in august this year, we could see price in the bullpen a la joba. Again, yikes.

I know you guys all hate Giambi and believe he is the cause of all that ails the Yankees. The guy is really not doing that badly. His OPS is 813 and that is with a ridiculously low BABIP of .141. In his worst year ever (2004), his BABIP was .223. He has been hitting in horrible luck most of the season, and that will change. His line drive percentage of 18.5% is very close to the 19% he had in 2005 when he had a monster year. His strikeouts are not particularly high, and he continues to get on base via walks. He is absolutely the definition of a productive hitter, and as long as he stays healthy, he will only get better. By the way, here are just a few people with OPS's lower than Giambi's 813:

David Ortiz: 783
Jim Thome: 740
Gary Sheffield: 656
Frank Thomas: 694
Travis Hafner: 706
Ryan Howard: 680
Mark Teixeira: 746

I am not implying he is better than Ortiz or Teixeira. For 23 million of course you want more, but you have to remember that Free Agent contracts are often back-ended loaded, and his is no exception. When Giambi was hitting a ton (OPS of 1033 in 2002), his salary was 8 million. He was a bargain at that price, and we are paying for it now.

Go ahead and DFA him, but you will not be able to replace his output. And the team will not be better for it.

That ERA's excellent....for mortal pitchers. But it's just not worthy of the LEGEND that is Santana when it's over 3.
