Disappointing. If Torre doesn't understand that it's about the fans and not the organization, then he either he hasn't been paying attention or he's letting his pride get in the way. Judging by his tenure here, I think he definitely gets it. He's just letting his pride get in the way.

A real shame.

"Torre made it clear when the Yankees ran him out as manager last fall..."

You have to be kidding me. The team offered him a contract that would have kept him as the highest paid manager in MLB by far. It just didn't happen to be the ridiculous deal that Torre wanted.

I thought that when Torre's farewell sympathy tour completely fell flat, and when similar incentives - like the ones he labeled "insulting" in the deal he rejected - were discovered to be in his previous contracts, that Joe's sycophants in the media would have stopped with the revisionist history.

Evidently not.

In fact neither Joe Torre nor Bernie Williams have returned to Yankee Stadium since their Yankee employment ended. Yogi suffered the same indignity and it took almost 15 years and an intervention by Suzyn to bring him back. Obviously, the current Yankee Management - Brian Cashman - has no feeling for the major contributions to the team by his historic player Bernie and manager, Joe.

Unbelievable. The Yankees did not "run him out" as manager. Let. It. Go.

I think the Yanks did not treat him right last year and the would is too raw and it is too awkward for him to come back now. But I hope he can come back for such a ceremony and will not take 14 years like Yogi before returning. The only thin he could remember is that the years with the Yankees earned him millions, made people appreciate how much skill he had and made hi a certain Hall of Famer.

Torre was forced out, and while it was played as a move from Hank, I think it was more Cashman who engineered it.

Think about it. Cash was unhappy that Torre told about the Joba rules. Cash and Girardi are on the same page when it comes to lying.... errr... not being understood.

Torre was given a deal that Cashman and Yankee owners knew he couldnt' accept.

I wonder if Pettitte just is running out of energy because he can't get a piece of candy during the game.

Girardi does not fill be with confidence that he will manage this team to a post season this year. He plays too much with the lineup and it is extending slumps. While he is missing some key players, its not like Torre didn't have similar problems during his tenure. There is enough talent on this team that it should be doing better than this.

I don't blame Torre for not wanting to come back. I have a feeling that it will be like Yogi's relationship for a long time. Thanks Cashman. You got your leashed man, and Torre is now with another club.

Classy move?

I don't know, I think Torre burned a lot of bridges unnecessarily. Kind of like Bernie Williams. It was time to move on.

I hope they both find it in their hearts to embrace the Yanks again. If not, take care.

"If Torre is now managing the Yankees i’d be relaxed that somehow we will indeed make the playoff’s (as he proved us over and over) but as Girardi is our Manager I feel like maybe we’re for real just a 500 team??? hey you never know."

This pretty much sums up my feelings too. It was tough to see Torre go. I don't blame him for staying way, I would too.

I'm trying to give Girardi as much patience as possible but there is only so much to give.

I have no respect for Hank Steinbrenner. Who exactly is he? A rich kid who inherited the Yankees and really doesn't know much about baseball. Yay. ... and he raised ticket prices. ... and we're not winning.
