pete – is it offical that rodriguez is in the line up for tomorrow?

  3. al arodien

the ny post writes yhat he will be but i want to know if there was an offical announcment!

  4. Jonathan

Can i ask a question for everyone? The closest position player the yankees have is brett gardner. He will undoubtedly bring a spark. Why not play him in the outfield? Damon looks shot and I think we need that type of spark. any thoughts?

  5. Brandon (supporting "Alex being Alex") (J.Santana HR allowed count: 11 )

J because Simply Pathetic is still here, if they trade him it’s more likely Gardner comes up.

  6. Mehdi iis one half Arsenal and one half Yankees

the life of a troll who writes nonsense as if his opinion matters here or for that matter in his own life. A waste of skin in his own life he trolls blogs to inflict his own ineptitude on others. his name is what.

  7. mel

Here’s an excerpt from Neyer’s book trying to test the myth that Munson dropped strikes on purpose to outstat his rival, Fisk.

Warning: It’ll make your head spin. If the rest of the book reads like this, I say Neyer needs a new editor.

  8. rbj

Good to see Mattingly in there, given all he’s gone through recently. Be nice, everyone.

  9. al arodien

what.- by the way the best thing for a beat writer is when the team sucks! because you have a lot what to report! and of course with this ownership the most news comes when we lose!!!!

  10. S.A.- Someone call the police, the Yankees offense is missing

I miss watching this team win.

  11. Jorge Steinbrenner, the long-lost third brother

love this – my wife just got a position at Montclair. hope to be checking a lot of this all out.

  12. mel

    SA,

Hank tried to file a missing person’s report. But they said he couldn’t do it 24 hours after Alex and Jorge come back.

  13. Drew

    OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Bobby Murcer book signing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. SuckaMC

  15. Brendon

I might have to go to one of these….are pictures allowed?

  16. Vince

Yes, they are, I have been to the museum, very cool stuff. All of Yogi’s surviving rings are there and the physical museum obviously has Yankees stuff. When I went the writer of Mel Allen’s biography was there.

  17. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

For those of you that missed it and are interested, pictures from this weekend.

It’s hard to do the New Stadium justice in pictures—you really have to see it.

  18. Utube Comes Home

Who is Yogi berra by the way?

  19. S.A.- Someone call the police, the Yankees offense is missing

    LOL mel

    Nice pictures Rebecca

    :)

  20. Patrick

Ahhh I just got back from Italy yesterday. No Yankees was painful but turns out it wasn’t a bad week to miss if you are a Yankee fan like me. Rain, losing, injuries..yikes

Our boys will turn it around starting tomorrow night.

  21. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Patrick: No kidding? I’m headed there on Wednesday!

  22. Blargh

That was a fun little excerpt

as time goes on im trying it harder and harder to believe that there are no trades that can be made to improve this team. we have 3 LH outfielders who all have value and we certainly need a RH bat. add in the fact that each guy has different assets, damon as a leadoff hitter, abreu’s across the board game and matsui is a power hitter. these are 3 valuable commodities which other teams are always looking for. add in that the yankees could eat a hefty chunk out of the remaining salary on any of them and i have to belive that there are some moves that can be made to improve the club. im not talking about trading garbage (sorry jason) just to get rid of someone, but trading a major league quality LH bat for a similar major league quality RH bat.

add to that the fact that san diego, seattle, detroit and baltimore all have to be open for possible trades and thats alot of trade posibilities right there. (i know ppl are gonna say they wont trade in div, but teams to if the trade makes sense). the yankees are looking at a new reality so you then have to review all potential trade matches over in light of the new reality. i konw its early but its time to really start looking to improve for this year before we throw in the towel on this season.

  24. Brandon (supporting "Alex being Alex") (J.Santana HR allowed count: 11 )

“Is it racial?” Randolph asked. “Huh? It smells a little bit.”

Asked directly if he believes black managers are held to different standards than their white counterparts, Randolph said: “I don’t know how to put my finger on it, but I think there’s something there. Herman Edwards did pretty well here and he won a couple of playoff [games], and they were pretty hard on Herm. Isiah Thomas didn’t do a great job, but they beat up Isiah pretty good. ... I don’t know if people are used to a certain figurehead. There’s something weird about it.

    Willie No :(

well I’ll be back later going home now.

sorry i was just begining to edit and hit the button by mistake. (guess i should compose on works and xfer it)

  27. Joe from Long Island

    Rebecca –
Great pix. How’d you get into a luxury box? Who do you know?

Are you going to Italy too? I was there last month, and Patrick, above, says he just got back. It must be the place to be if you’re a Yankees fan! Enjoy!

  28. S.A.- Someone call the police, the Yankees offense is missing

    Oh Willie…

  29. stuart

yesterday one of the brilliant posters compared Cano to Chris Shelton who is now on the rangers but about 4 yrs ago had a Kevin Maas hot streak with Detroit. I thought it was the standard bogus nonsense since Cano is 25 and has had 3 very good yrs so I informed the poster of those facts.

I just looked up both guys stats; cano has had 1778 egular season AB’s so far, he has played in over 122 games in 3 straight seasons and has a 304 avg. his low yr he hit 297 and in his high he hit 342.

craig shelton 3 yrs older has 900 less Ab’s and is a 270 hitter.. thee is not comparison but that does not stop knuckleheads on this site from spouting there garbage.

Cano is 25, a allstar httin 100 points below his creer avg.. I forgot that is Cashmans fault for giving Cano a nice but not crazy 5 yr. contract.. that is right, he smiles alot and therefore he is not trying hard enough…simple answers that answer nothing..

If the yanks just try harder Tuesday I am sure they will win after all that is what our astute fandom often cite for the reason they are losing..

  30. ham fighter

watching alot of games this season, ive noticed something that strikes me, that players are stealing bases by just ‘guessing and going’ (taking off on the pitchers 1st move) instead of reading the pitchers move and stealing after he starts to the plate. jeter did it last night and it seemed to me like teams have been taking off alot more, against guys with good moves to first (i.e. pettitte and rogers). anyone else noticing this?

  31. saucY

i saw that stuart. i think the same poster (troll) changed their name 10 times in a 15 minute span…

  32. G. Love

    Stuart,

The Shelton comparison was idiotic for the other poster to put up.

But how do you explain Cano looking completely lost this long at the plate?

If we’re supposed to believe all the so called experts in here, he’s not getting hits because he’s pressing.

Would it be such a leap to assume that he’s pressing in order to live up to the contract?

Or perhaps the contract took away part of his desire to play.

No matter what, we’re past the point of excuses with Cano.

He needs to produce. If he doesn’t produce until the weather is optimal and the sun in the right setting in the sky, then he hurts this team immeasurably.

This team was counting on him and he’s failed them miserably this season.

I’m just interested in hearing what your reasons are for why he stinks right now.

Because he stinks. If you move him up in the order, he presses and he can’t hit. Every time Torre or Girardi put him above the 6th spot, he fails.

So what does that tell you about him?

  33. Dee

Almost 6pm and still no comments from Hank. Is it possible?

Does this mean Moose may not win tomorrow??

  34. stuart

G.Love I have no idea why Cano stinks right now and I admit it but other fools try to act like they know the answer and they know as much as I do which is nothing.

see guys like you can have it 5 ways; if cano struggles you say any of many things including; he is getting lazy because he got big bucks, he is pressing because he gets the big contract, he is a warm weather player, and on and on.

I know one thing you have no clue either…....

Cano presently offensively may have been the worst fulltime 2B in all of baseball, that is bad and totally unexpected he is 25 not 34 and injury prone… I know one thing guys like you can do your circular blame arguement and always put it on your standby, cashman how can he sign this guy to a 5 yr contract, outrageous!!!!!!

I assume Cano by the end of the year will hit minimum 280 with 15 to 25 Hr’s and 75 to 100 rbi’s if he did less then that it would be a shocker to me…

  35. Dee

I hope Willie was misquoted or was taken out of context. To reduce everything to race is pathetic and trivializes real racial problems that do exist in our country.

  36. Blargh

Hmm, Jacque Jones signed a minor league deal with the Marlins. Wonder if he’ll stop slumping there, and start a trend of the Marlins getting better of the Tigersin deals directly and indirectly

  37. Dee

I hope the temporary losing streak is just some sort of cosmic reminder to Yankee brass that they should not be jacking up ticket price to $1500 per game at the new stadium.

  38. S.A.- Someone call the police, the Yankees offense is missing

“Almost 6pm and still no comments from Hank. Is it possible?

Does this mean Moose may not win tomorrow??”

    Uh Oh…
Maybe Peter can give Hank a call..
Ya know..say hello little Stein….how are you….get his thoughts on the team…

  39. stuart

florida has nothing to lose with jacque jones if he stinks they waive him and it costs them about $350k, even for those tightwads that is not alot of money.

  40. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Joe: One of my cousin’s suppliers has a box, so he got the tickets, and my cousin knows how much my brother and I like the Yankees =)

I’m going to Rome and Florence with my brother…he’s never been to Europe before. I can’t wait.

  41. G. Love

    Guys like me. Whatever.

You sit there and cover your eyes while you watch him play then.

If watching baseball is just about looking at stats at the end of the season, then why do we watch?

It’s about winning. Cano is not helping this team win. Is he?

What has he done besides the pinch HR in Tampa?

Part of being a fan is discussing the players and the sport and it’s all or nothing with people like you.

Cashman had no obligation to give him the contract this off season. None. They didn’t give that kind of contract to Jeter, Mo, Bernie, Pettitte or anyone in the past. Guys who deserved it more than Cano did.

Is that the reason he sucks? It might be. Gene Michael said on the air the other night that players who have fat contracts and financial security don’t play the same way early in the season as players trying to earn that contract.

    I guess he’s stupid too.

Cano stinks. He stinks right now. He’s awful.

When he comes out of it, if the team is 15 games back and he hits .350 the rest of the season and we miss 1st place by 5 games, I bet geniuses like you will be telling us what a great season Cano has had.

His early season disappearing act is one of the main reasons this offense sucks and we can’t score.

  42. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Dee: Uh oh, we need Hank to open his mouth!

  43. mel

    Around the Horn:

Ryan/Mariotti think it’s too late for the Yankees.

    Adande/Paige think they’ll be fine.

Using Delgado’s Foul-run as proof that there should be replay in baseball.

  44. Alan

All the best to “Puff” Nettles who is not too far removed from prostate surgery. He seems to be on full recovery.

  45. randy l

“To reduce everything to race is pathetic and trivializes real racial problems that do exist in our country.”

you think it’s fair that willie randolph spent so long to get his first shot managing and girardi just moved right into managing with almost no down time from playing?

i think willie randolph has a very realistic perspective of race in this country. i also think he held his tongue for a long time so he would have a chance to manage. his restraint was remarkable.

if he says something now, i’d say it’s worth paying attention to him.

  46. S.o.S.27

    mel,
Its like everyone is waiting and hoping that the Yankees finally miss the playoffs. Even though they have proven time and time again to comeback from large deficits and get in. With no name pitchers like Small,Chacon,Wright,Clippard etc. Its just flat out rediculous. Like i mentioned in another thread. We dont play for wild cards. The division streak will begin again this year. Its mid May for gods sakes!! No one is pulling away from the pack this year. The league is more balanced than ever. Which IMO is good news for us.

Cano needs to be more patient at the plate and stop reaching and hitting bad balls. Easier said than done.

  47. S.o.S.27

“you think it’s fair that willie randolph spent so long to get his first shot managing and girardi just moved right into managing with almost no down time from playing?”

Could it be because he was a catcher? They say that catchers would make the best Managers. Simply because they are used to having a strong input on game decisions.

I could see Posada being a manager before Jeter.

Hell. Dusty Baker got a second chance even after some say he ruined Woods and Prior. Im not all for the race card.

  48. Doreen

    G Love –
Gene Michael said no such thing. Gene Michael went out of his way to qualify what he was saying so that people would not misunderstand what he was saying. He said he didn’t want to be understood as saying the veterans were satisfied because of their big contracts. He said, veterans for whatever reason are slow out of the gate. They have a feel for the season; younger players go fast right out of the gate.

I listened to that interview. I heard what he said. It’s not what you just wrote.

  49. rvajames (WordPress eats my comments)

Rebecca – Did you catch Jon Miller’s story about Keith Olbermann’s tour of the new Stadium? If not, Keith said he wasn’t sure if he’d like it at all because he’s a bit of a purist, but after the tour he said he was taken away by it. I didn’t know Keith was a Yankee fan (or maybe he isn’t, not sure) but if a self-professed baseball purist who did work at ESPN at one point said it was magnificent I have much more hope. Frankly just seeing the outside of the place is already getting me worked up, let alone the first time I walk into that atrium with all those great Yankees up on the walls in the form of 50 foot posters.

Thanks for the photos too, I’ll never be able to go to a sky box because I am just another poor college kid. They certainly look lovely, and the nets are just icing on the cake. Catch any foul balls?

  50. Patrick

“Patrick: No kidding? I’m headed there on Wednesday!

Are you going to Italy too? I was there last month, and Patrick, above, says he just got back. It must be the place to be if you’re a Yankees fan! Enjoy!”

Yeah Italy was awesome. Rebecca if you can go to Florence, it was easily the best place I visited while I was there.

  51. what.

Man am not a troll, Iam a Yankee fan.

  52. Dee

Randy, I don’t disagree with you that it might have taken longer for willie to become a manager. My objection is to him injecting race in a discussion about his own job stability now, and even bringing up Isiah.

I don’t even want to go there about Isiah. But when it comes to questioning Willie’s job stability, shouldn’t he be smart enough to realize that he is free game given how his team collapsed last season and now having another miserable start and an out-of-control clubhouse? Race has no place in that discussion.

  53. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Randolph also stayed with the Yankees a while as third base coach.

  54. mel

I think Willie’s been given plenty of rope. Looks like he’s going to hang himself with it (no pun or offense intended). He was given the dreaded endorsement form the front office and now he brings up race? That could be the last straw. He may last the year, but not much longer.

  55. stuart

again G love just more noise from you.. Of course baseball is more then statistics but you cannot eliminate the stats.

listen Cano drives me crazy his casual style etc…I am an old time fan, I hate all the BS and like the O’neill type but that is another subject…since cano is getting blame for the situation be sure you add giambino at $21 mill per yr. and a whopping 193 Avg. and his stellar fielding and range, then add your man Pettitte(probably not rying since he is rich according to your logic), he has been ver ydisapointing, then throw in Joba who is about a 1.00 ERA higher then last yr. add damon, abreu(woos), and about 13 other guys and you have all the dissapointments on this team.

it would just be easier to put the guys who have pulled there weight so that would be ; moose, mariano, and maybe matsui(he is very very streaky), and wang I guess…

that is the bottom line… they have about 5 guys’s pulling there weight…that is one sorry TEAM.. After all it i a team sport…

Jeter has been far from terrible but the guy has 2 Hr’s and 1 SB…

Yeah Cashman really treated Cano different then the other Yankees. If I remember correctly didn’t Jeter get like a 9 yr deal or something like that. Jeter makes $19 mill a yr…I assume he can get that on the open market from about zero teams… they are far from mistreating derek, alex and numerous of the yankees..The yanks have for many yrs. been more then fair with there star players…

  56. mel

    rvajames,

Olbermann’s a season ticket holder for years. He used to do the Big Show (a daily hour segment) on the Dan Patrick Show. I think Knoublach hit Keith’s mom with a ball or something.

He was affectionately called a Yankee apologist. So he wasn’t sure, but after tour he was blown away? Cool.

  57. Dee

“I could see Posada being a manager before Jeter.”

Me too. Posada managed the last game last year and I’ve noticed him always sitting next to Joe G during ST and now at regular season games. Joe G is still young and I hope he sticks around a while (b/c if he isn’t around 5 years from now, it probably means we haven’t made the WS in 5 years!) but I can see Jorge becoming Joe’s bench coach after he retires from playing.

  58. S.o.S.27

    Rebecca,
Mentioned this in an earlier thread.
There have been 2 teams in hockey to blow a 3-0 lead. Penguins and Red Wings. They were both 33 years apart. The Penguins clinched yesterday. My Red Wings have lost 2 straight. It is 33 years this year from the last one. Should i be scared?

  59. ham fighter

    ryajames
olberman’s and his family have been season ticket holders for years and i believe his mother was once hit by a steve sax overthrow. so yes he has been going to the stadium for decades and his perspective is encouraging.

it is still possible that the mets will have the best stadium in new york, my first look at the artists renderings i liked citifield better and then i heard about the restaurant blocking sitelines in the bleachers and it sounded a bit sketchy, i’m glad ppl who’ve seen it say its nice.

  60. stuart

Keith Olberman is a huge Yankee fan his mom is a season ticket holder who got hit by a thrown bll from SS a while back. I forget the details but something like that.

G Love it sounds like you may be confused about Gene Michaels comments!!!!!!!I did not hear the interview..I consider Gene Michaels the architect of this 13 yr run so I am a big fan of Gene’s.

Again always looking for answers when none are available will lead pick you pick at straws and what action for the sake of action…You do not understand that these pro athletes are very proud(most not all) and of course love to get paid ungodly amounts but also have huge ego and pride and will do anything not to get embarresed. Cano is being embarrased right now and I am sure he is not happy. But guys like you think they don’t care because they smile and try to go on ….

  61. S.o.S.27

“Jeter has been far from terrible but the guy has 2 Hr’s and 1 SB…”

    Stuart,
I agree with what you said. But as far as i know Jeter came back early and was/is still hampered by the hamstring injury. He will hit his 16 homers a year. What i want him to do more is draw more walks.

  62. Dee

Speaking of being a purist, does anyone know if there’s any truth to the rumor that our players’ jersey will have names on the back?

I don’t like that one bit, I hope they keep the way things are with the number only.

  63. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

S.o.S.: I would be a little worried. Remember the Devils in 2000. I needn’t even mention what happened four years later in a different sport.

  64. S.o.S.27

“I needn’t even mention what happened four years later in a different sport.”

Dont know. I was hypmotized to forget anything about 04. Wont ask either.

  65. S.o.S.27

“does anyone know if there’s any truth to the rumor that our players’ jersey will have names on the back?”

Not sure. But i heard they are going to burn #45 on opening day and retire that number.

  66. Joe from Long Island

Rebecca – That was my itinerary, Florence and Rome. I was astonished by the attention to fashion in Florence. Lots of great shopping, and food. Wine is terrific. I don’t know if it’s the lack of sulfites in the wine, but we never got drunk. Food is terrific, also. Only problem is the exchange rate. But how often do you get to Italy? If you’re me – not.

But enjoy! You only live once.

  67. russ m

Hey, we can’t lose tonight LOL That is a positive

  68. Clay Buchholz stole my laptop, (aka Joe)

    Nice pictures, Rebecca.

  69. Brian (Red Sox Fan)

Rebecca, Patrick & Joe from Long Island – I see from previous threads that you are going (or have gone) to Italy.

One thing we can agree on is that Italy is a wonderful country (my favorite), and Rome is a spectacular city (also my favorite – have been there on five different occasions).

For Rebecca and Patrick – a nice walking tour goes from St. Peter’s to The Bellini Bridge (crossing the Tiber at Castle St. Angelo), then heading east towards the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and the Piazza Navona. Easy to navigate with a city map, and takes only about 45 minutes. Enjoy some gelato along the way.

I just came back from Sicily, and the return flight passed over Rome, where we could clearly see the Vatican and the Colloseum. Just wonderful.

  70. Clay Buchholz stole my laptop, (aka Joe)

Anyone going this Saturday? I’m bringing my 4 year old daughter to her first game!

  71. Clay Buchholz stole my laptop, (aka Joe)

    Brian,

I heard a rumor that you buried an Ortiz jersey in the Roman Colliseum, is that true?

  72. Clay Buchholz stole my laptop, (aka Joe)

I saw the Pope at the Vatican back in 1999.

  73. Drew

“Isiah Thomas didn’t do a great job, but they beat up Isiah pretty good. … I don’t know if people are used to a certain figurehead”

Oh Good God…he’s a low life, that’s why they came down hard on him!

  74. Yankee lover

IF Arod returns tomorrow is there any discussion about possibly activating Posada to DH until he is ready? They could sure use the bat.

  75. Brian (Red Sox Fan)

Clay – It’s true. I did bury an Ortiz shirt at the Colloseum. I’ve lived a life of fruitless battle against Evil Empires.

I saw John Paul II (along with thousands of others) at a Papal mass in 1980, back before he was shot. After the mass, he came back into the Basilica to “work the crowd,” with very little security. Kindler, gentler times…..

  76. G. Love

I hate to feed the morons, but Stuart, if you followed this team at all you would know it was Yankee policy not to buy out young players during their arbitration years.

They did not lock up players like Jeter, Bernie Williams, Pettite, Rivera, etc. Home grown players were not given mutilyear contracts. They earned their year to year raises through good play and the threat arbitration while they were under the Yankee control.

Jeter got his mega deal because he was approaching free agency.

Cano was still 5 years from reaching free agency when Cashman had the masterstroke to bestow the riches on him.

If I’m quoting/paraphrasing Gene Michael wrong, then so be it. But people posted in this blog that he said veteran players with big contracts take a lot longer to get it going than young players playing for the contracts they might get in the future.

I don’t know if it’s the money, the moonlight or the fact that he misses Larry Bowa that is causing to Cano to suck.

I just know he sucks along with Giambi and Damon. Abreu at least got off to a nice start. Damon has one good week and we’re all supposed to celebrate.

But when I see/hear people citing the age and speed of this team as reasons for their failure, I think of Cano who is 25 and lost at the plate and showing no signs of coming out of it yet.

Giambi hits the ball hard at people just as much as Cano does. So if you’re gonna rip Giambi, you also have to rip Cano.

  77. Joe from Long Island

Clay – I’ll be there, loge section 24. Hoping for a win.

gentler times…then why, when some red sox roomates had extra tickets and took me to the first game of the first boston massacre at fenway in 1978 when the yankees went into fenway park 4 down after being down 14.5, did they tell me, “don’t cheer even once in the bleachers for the yankees, you’ll die”?

it was really hard not tempting fate when the yankees hit something like 17 singles and won by about 13-3. they decided i was a jinx and didn’t take me to another game even though they had tickets to all four.

they were really ticked off later when they didn’t take me to the playoff game even though they had extra tickets to that too, and i jumped out of my chair when bucky dent hit the hole run and put a hole in the ceiling with my head.

it was never the same after that, i had to move out.

  79. Yankee lover

Why does Cano only have 11 career stolen bases in 3 + years in the majors? Is this another Bernie Williams situation?

  80. Brian (Red Sox Fan)

Randy 1 – Life was “kindler and gentler” in Rome, but not in Boston, I guess. The 1978 Boston Massacre took place after a mid-1970s crackdown on smoking pot in the bleachers at Fenway. (Maybe it cut into beer sales.) If the Sox fans were still allowed to suffer in a nice, mellow state, you would have been safe during the sweep.

Besides, in 1978 we had gone 60 years w/o winning a WS (including the agony of Joe Morgan’s 1975 bloop). Sox fans were afflicted with chronic pathologies, and they took away our weed. What did you expect?

  81. jennifer- I got your back Girardi

Brandon Willie is going to get himself into more trouble throwing around the race card.

Also Willie should stop crying about the fans booing, it shows weakness.

  82. Marc from Portland Maine

How dare they take away your weed in your time of need?

  83. jennifer- I got your back Girardi

I saw something on nbc news tonight, they showed an Astros pitcher pumping his fist and his hips after a strike out. Anyone know if ESPN led with this story?

Or if they led with Reyes being bush celebrating on the field? I think I missed both of these stories.

  84. pat

“does anyone know if there’s any truth to the rumor that our players’ jersey will have names on the back?”

I hope not. When I was a little kid I asked why they didn’t have names on their shirts. My dad told me because the name on the front of the uniform is more important than the name on the back of the uniform. Besides, they don’t need names, everyone knows who plays for the Yankees.

  85. randy l

”(including the agony of Joe Morgan’s 1975 bloop”

we try not to talk about joe morgan here.
    too controversial.
... but how bad of a guy could he be if he bloops in hits on the red sox?

  86. rvajames (WordPress eats my comments)

mel, ham fighter, stuart – Good to know about Keith. That’s a shame about the bleacher’s sight lines if true, though. The Bleacher Creatures are a staple of any game and it’d be a shame if they shafted them on the sight lines when they’ve already reduced the amount of bleachers from the original Stadium to the new one.

Anyways for anyone interested here’s Keith’s take on the new stadium on his show:

  87. jennifer- I got your back Girardi

Dee where did you read this? I hope to god it isn’t true.

  88. Brian (Red Sox Fan)

Marc – Exactly. If the home team can’t provide winning baseball, they should at least allow medicinal marijuana intake during home games.

  90. Zach in Port Jeff (temporarily Zach in Melbourne, AUS)

oh jeez… finally able to check in and see how they are doing after missing about a week of baseball being on an airplane, waiting at airports, and sitting at my desk at work.

wow! this team has taken quite a drubbing over the past week. While getting A-rod back is not going to cure all ills (at least not immediately), I think we’ll start to see better production from the top of the order (mainly Abreu and hopefully Damon).

i dont agree with any sentiment about getting a “veteran” pitcher for the sake of getting a veteran pitcher. the likes of bronson arroyo, imo, is not the answer to propel this team to a great 2nd half run.

even though Gardner is probably not MLB ready yet, I say we give him a shot by the All-Star Break. The speed alone will be a big boost, and it should put pressure on the others to start producing.

ugghhh, just read about abreu not getting molina in from 3rd with 1 one.

despite this…still can’t jump ship. gotta stick with them. they’ve proved me wrong too many times when i’ve gone against them.

“When I was a little kid I asked why they didn’t have names on their shirts. My dad told me because the name on the front of the uniform is more important than the name on the back of the uniform.”

    Pat I like your dad:-)

  92. Brian (Red Sox Fan)

Randy 1 – I’ve noticed that Joe Morgan’s expert analyses have caught the attention of Yankee fans. I’m not fond of him myself, but it could have something to do with tha 1975 bloop.

  93. S.A.- Someone call the police, the Yankees offense is missing

    Let’s go Hornets!

  94. Dee

Jennifer, I don’t remember where. I remember freaking out when I heard…I hope it’s just a dumb rumor.

  95. randy l

    brian red sox fan-
i didn’t like him very much myself after the 1976 world series.

... just saw an inside the park home run in houston’s minute made park by the cubs young catcher soto. some team could really upset the staus quo if they made a ball park that all the outfield fences were about 450 feet out .

some balls that would be home runs in a normal park would be caught, but some gappers would roll to the far away wall and be inside the park home runs. visiting teams would have to have outfielders who could run and throw or they’d be in big trouble in an outfield that big.

inside the park home runs are probably the most exciting play in baseball so it’d be fun for the fans.

The last few years, Dog declares the Yankees dead and the comeback begins.

    http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/22825103/vp/24713866#24713866

    The comeback starts tomorrow!!!!!

  97. ham fighter

cubs CATCHER giovanni soto just hit a 3-run inside-the-park home run in houston!

you dont see that every day!

  98. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Thanks guys! I was actually in Italy last year-I went on my spring bbreak during my semester abroad-but my brother’s never bbeen to Europe and I really wanted to go back. Easy sell to my parents, who’ve always encouraged travelling.

  99. ham fighter

damn, i just go the astro’s trivia question right! maybe i DO watch too much baseball!

  100. randy l

    ham fighter-
what do you think of the cubs? i shot my mouth off about them earlier today so i thought i’d better watch them so i might actually know something about them.

my first thought was after watching soriano that i wish he would have stayed with the yankees.he had what it took to play in new york. i have no idea what position he’d be playing now if he had somehow stayed.

the yankees would have had a very different make up had they not made the arod/soriano trade.

  101. Brendon

The yankees need to learn from Miguel Tejada. He has energy and fire. He is a solid motivator. This is what the Yankees need.

  102. raymagnetic

“Cano was still 5 years from reaching free agency when Cashman had the masterstroke to bestow the riches on him.

If I’m quoting/paraphrasing Gene Michael wrong, then so be it. But people posted in this blog that he said veteran players with big contracts take a lot longer to get it going than young players playing for the contracts they might get in the future.

I don’t know if it’s the money, the moonlight or the fact that he misses Larry Bowa that is causing to Cano to suck.”

I’m pretty sure that Cano wasn’t 5 years away from free agency. In fact he was going to arbitration this year which means he had 2 years after this one to become a free agent.

I’m also pretty sure that Cano had asked for 4.55mil in arbitration and the Yankees offered 3.2mil in arbitration.

This year Cano is making 3mil, he’s actually making less money than the Yankees offered him in arbitration.

Next year he’ll make 6 mil and he probably would have gotten more than that next year in arbitration.

Another thing I’m pretty sure about is the fact that the Yankees have 2 options worth a total of 27 mil. Now if I knew that playing well for the next 4 years would guarantee me another 27mil I would damn sure be trying very hard to make sure the Yankees picked up my options. But that’s just me.

  103. pat

Dog has declared that Yankees done on nbc sports website.

If history is any indication, Dog declaring the Yanks done means the comeback begins tomorrow!!!!

I tried posting the link to the video but it mustn’t have made it through the filter.

  104. ham fighter

cubs are easily the best team in their division and they do have a solid #1 but im still not sold on dempster being as good as he looks. the offense is really solid, soto and fukudome really extend thier lineup and d. lee is money. probaly the 2nd best team in the nl behind arizona (cant beat that pitching!)

i heard at the time that torre wanted soriano gone, so that was that, he didnt want bad habits creeping into his clubhouse.

  105. trisha - never underestimate the power of a few words from Hank.

DID YOU KNOW THAT JON LESTER IS PITCHING A NO HITTER????

If someone already announced it, thanks!

    :D

  106. Johny Mnemonic

I turned on the TV and Dancing with the Stars was on. SCARE THE HELL OUT OF ME. Luckily I changed the channel quick enough and survived.

  107. S.A.- Someone call the police, the Yankees offense is missing

Dog said the Yankees were done?
    WooHoo…2008 world series champs baby!

  108. ham fighter

brandon, although your description of tejada is accurate with regards to the astros, he was seen as a big part of the problem in baltimore. its nice to see him playing like he is but time will tell if he can sustain a good attitude.

  109. randy l

“i heard at the time that torre wanted soriano gone, so that was that, he didnt want bad habits creeping into his clubhouse.”

... meaning free swinging at pitches?

wow, edmonds just mad a great catch running up that hill at minute made park.

  110. Drew

Pat – Don’t listen to anything Dog says, you’ll go insane. And I’ve never heard any rumor of putting names on the jerseys.

  111. Brian (Red Sox Fan)

Randy 1 – I don’t know much about the Cubs, but Edmonds just made a remarkable back-to-the-plate catch running up the Houston hill in CF.

I always thought that he tended to “style” a lot of his catches, but not this one. Nifty.

  112. jennifer- I got your back Girardi

pat that is the best news I’ve heard all day. #27 here we come.

  113. randy l

    brian (red sox fan)

didn’t ted lilly used to give the red sox fits? i seem to remember him giving them trouble.
as much as some on the blog here put him down, it’d be nice having him instead of igawa.

  114. trisha - never underestimate the power of a few words from Hank.

Lester pitching a no hitter in the top of the 7th…

  115. trisha - never underestimate the power of a few words from Hank.

And if I caught it too late in the game, so be it.

I guess there are worse things in the world than pitching a no hitter against KC.

  116. Brian (Red Sox Fan)

Randy 1 – The Sox always had trouble against Lilly. His stuff is better than he gets credit for. Just because he’s left-handed doesn’t mean that he’s relegated to the “crafty” category.

I’m glad the Yankees didn’t go after him, and it’s a bonus that he’s in the NL.

But Igawa did have those 6 shutout innings against the Sox last year. I think that I saw pigs flying earlier in the day.

  117. Brian (Red Sox Fan)

I think I’ll have to seriously watch Lester’s no-no. I’ve assumed that he has no chance, and have been multi-tasking between two baseball games and the NBA game 7. But Lester is overmatching KC right now. Might well do it.

  118. randy l

    brian red sox fan-

that’s what i thought about lilly.
ok enough talking with you .
i have to construct a whammy for lester.

  119. Brian (Red Sox Fan)

Lester with a 1,2,3 8th. 18 out of 24 first pich strikes. Fast ball up to 96 in the 8th.

I have no idea what got into him. I know that KC can’t hit, but his stuff and command suggest some kind of Faustian deal.

  120. Yeah!

    Yankees Please make it happened.
