Yanks-Tigers set for Sept. 1

Peter Abraham
May
19

The Yanks-Tigers game postponed on May 11 has been scheduled for Sept. 1 at 1:05 p.m. at Comerica Park.

Ah, Labor Day in Detroit.

That sets up this road trip: Detroit (1), Tampa Bay (3), Seattle (3), Anaheim (3) with no days off between any of the games. So 10 games in 10 days in four cities and two time zones.

Of course by then they’ll have such a big lead it won’t really matter.

Had this link sent to me from another blog on LoHud.com. Joe Girardi spent part of his off day with some high school kids. Nice of him to do that.

Francesa is sick “get a veteran pitcher even if you have to over pay” Crazy!

    1. A person or thing that is believed to bring bad luck.
    2. A condition or period of bad luck that appears to have been caused by a specific person or thing.

  3. Girardi on the DL

The Yankees are road warriors. Of course throughout this season so far they are beaten up road warriors. ;)

Maybe the Yankees will be playing to role of spoiler by then.

    “Ah, Labor Day in Detroit.”

The irony of spending Labor Day in a city where the auto industry has collapsed. Sad.

Thanks for being our fearless correspondent Pete!!!!

  5. Motown Yankees Fan

At least in September they will have the benefit of the entire 40 man roster.

  6. Amanda from La.

way to be positive about the near future of the season! That’s a heck of a lot of traveling for you and the team..have fun with it-Enjoy the day off and thanks for the story on Joe G. I hate that we lose, but I have a hard time disliking him, he seems like a pretty good guy.

Girardi–seriously? Spoiler? Hell no. They’ll be in playoff contention.

Well, hopefully Girardi reading to the kiddies will put some good karma in the bank. The Yankees sure have enough of it stored up thusfar.

  8. Yankee lover

Agree with Francesa. Get a veteran pitcher and try to stay in this thing. Even if you have to overpay. Jax, we need help, why are you worried about Yankee $$$, they arent and they got it

  9. Jerkface

Where is this veteran pitcher going to materialize out of? Hank’s behind?

I have no idea how FatBoy gets his legion to believe in his sayings it’s like the answer to his prayers is Bronson Arroyo, Babe the pig saids get a veteran SP (Arroyo) and leave Joba alone in the BP, I swear if I could I’d punch him.

  11. gayle

Dont you all know that rule number one in being a Yankee fan is NEVER to listen to taqlk radio after a weekend like the Yankees just had

  12. TKinDC

    Hey Brandon –

Did you see the Baseball America link I posted earlier? Projected the Yanks drafting a LHP in the first round of their mock draft.

“Of course by then they’ll have such a big lead it won’t really matter.”…and I say this in love, dude….I am ready for your sarcastic comment to actually ring true later in the season, friend ! :-)

  14. Russell NY

I would take Arroyo, or give David Wells a shot.

  15. Jax

I don’t know what’s his fascination with Bronson Arroyo who has a era over 6 in the NL. This team is not a veteran pitcher away from winning the WS like he’s making it sound like.

  16. Brandon (supporting "Alex being Alex") (J.Santana HR allowed count: 11 )

I actually didn’t TK post it again

No on David Wells; he would need a month or more in the minors, and he was bad in last year’s NL West. So not only would you not get production immediately (which is kind of the point of these chasing veterans deals), it would probably be lousy production anyway.

Arroyo’s been having a bad year, although career-wise he isn’t bad, actually. The kicker for me is his contract; he gets 9.5 mil next year, 11 mil in 2010, and a team option for 2011 (11 mil, or 2 mil buyout). If I were to trade for him (and if the Reds were willing to trade him to us in the first place), WHY am I trading for him? Am I looking for something for just this year? Do I want him for next year? How about the year after?

  19. jennifer

gayle I totally agree, Heck this morning I resorted to listening to 880 while I got ready for work.

I don’t get this fasination with Bronson either. I don’t like him, I don’t want him here. Plus he stinks. Yeah he is a vet, does that make it okay when he goes 4 innings nd gives up 6 runs? I guess to fatso and fruitlooops it does.

  20. Brandon (supporting "Alex being Alex") (J.Santana HR allowed count: 11 )

    “Projected Pick: KYLE LOBSTEIN.”

no chance he falls that much

Brett DeVall (Florida) (if he falls to us start dancing naked in the streets)

    Mike Montgomery (California) (he’s a 2nd – 3rd rounder)

  21. Brandon (supporting "Alex being Alex") (J.Santana HR allowed count: 11 )

I guarantee Chase Wright will do just as good maybe even better than Arroyo. His BABIP .263 and has allowed only 9 XBH in AA..IDK why he is still stuck in AA under Igawa in the depth chart

  22. Blargh

    Incidentally, Wells turns 45 tomorrow

  23. Yankee lover

    Chase Wright?

Let him dominate triple A before thinking about moving him to the varsity. But wait didnt Hughes and Kennedy dominate Triple A?? Hows that working?

  24. Brandon (supporting "Alex being Alex") (J.Santana HR allowed count: 11 )

Bronson Arroyo sure doing daper ain’t he ! :)
