Game 45: Orioles at Yankees
YANKEES
Damon LF
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Matsui DH
Giambi 1B
Cano 2B
Cabrera CF
Molina C
Mussina RHP
Mike Mussina (6-3, 3.99) against the Orioles hitters.
Daniel Cabrera (4-1, 3.58) against the Yankees hitters.
Notes: Thanks to Brian Heyman for calling the lineup in. … Moose has won his last five decisions, posting a 2.76 ERA. He is facing Baltimore for the first time this season. Mussina is 10-6, 4.51 against his former team. … This is A-Rod’s first game since April 28 in Cleveland. In all, he was out 21 days.
Enjoy the game.

Lets. Go. Yankees.
Great weather for A-Rod to make his return in.
Nice to see arod in the lineup. LETS GO YANKEES!!!
just adding that one guy in the lineup makes it look so much better
Welcome back Alex.
Let’s go Yankees!
Anybody know what the Yankees record was in those 21 days without Alex?
What a great looking line-up; especially the clean-up spot!
Great to see Alex back – now let’s hope that they get the game in.
Wow, with the exception of Molina, this is the A-Team. About freakin’ time!!!!
Can’t wait to see Jorge in there!
DMan…their record? Bad. That’s all we really need to know!
DMan
I read this morning they lost 11 of 17.
SOOO nice to see a hitter I’m the middle of that line-up
I saw on ESPN that they were 8-12 without A-Rod. Their BA, runs per game, and HR per game were nearly identical, though, with him (12-12) and without him.
Roberts and Millar own some pretty sick numbers against Mussina.
What’s with this lineup? It sucks! Girardi.
Who goes down to make room for A-Rod? (i would send down Ensberg and leave Gonzalez as backup).
“Rodriguez 3B”
No prettier words have I ever seen…
That is the most beautiful line up!!!
I
Sorry for that. Everytime I seem to post, I get an error from FireFox.
Hmm. Anyway, I doubt they get this game in tonight. It is really, really crappy out.
Welcome back, Alex!
That Girardi. Another new lineup. Why couldn’t he just stick with Sunday’s license for consistency?
Amazing how much better the lineup looks.. Let’s hope A-Rod provides a spark and everyone can get going NOW.
is shelly duncan still on the team?
testing-
Guisseppe Girardi, Please, beg you, switch Matsui and Abreu. Pllllleeassssssssssssseeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, this instantly looks like a decent lineup. Let’s hope they hit like one.
I’m still wondering who’s getting knocked off the team. A position player, like Duncan (AAA) or Ensberg (DFA)? Maybe the “13th arm”, Britton or Ohlendorf, move down to AAA?
ER, stop testing, you failed a long time ago.
From two threads ago, my favrite teams:
Yankees, NY Giants, the University of California Golden Bears football and basketball, Arsenal FC, Knicks (back when they were an NBA franchise; whatever happened to them anyway?).
Yanks lose again tonight? Cano goes 0 for 4? A-Rod goes 0 for 5? Gas price hits record high?
Bigger question for today: Will they get the game in?
bobby –
Abreu can run. Godzilla can’t.
It’s looking grey and ugly here in 10017.
Glavine wins! I normally don’t care but since the Mets swept us I’m bitter. lol.
ER: Are you actually on the set of ER?
do you think they will play tonight?
My guess is Britton gets sent down again. I happen to feel it should be Shelley, but that bat has potential off the bench (even if we haven’t seen it yet this season). Gonzalez is needed as a backup middle IF and I don’t think they’re ready to dump Ensberg yet (it wouldn’t break my heart if they did, even though I like Ensberg).
I got tickets for tonight…I am not sure if I am going to get in the car and go because of this rain, I can’t imagine they are going to play.
I hope they play…
Even as bad as they’ve looked lately, I still can’t help but to watch or listen to the games.
It started raining again 10 miles north.
This season has gotten to the point where I would rather see the team win ugly 12-10 than to play crisply and win 4-3.
I just want to see some OFFENSE!!!
27/08
I am on Long Island and its been raining the whole day…
I hope if they play tonight, which they probably will because the way the Yankees have played rainmaker this season the doubleheaders could really pile up, I sure hope ARod DHs or sits. You know, in addition to the Yankees not playing crisp baseball in a good many of their games, the weather surrounding them sure hasn’t been all that lovely, either.
I was listening to XM before, Charlie Steiner was interviewing the beat writer for the Mariners. If I didn’t know who he was talking to, I would have sworn it was about the Yankees. The talking points – GMs job in possible peril; lousy weather; low batting average with RISP; and a few other things that sounded mighty familiar — PLUS, the fact that the fans on the blog are out for blood! (I thought we in the NY metro area had the market cornered on bloodlust for managers/gms/poorly performing players!)
And then they had the guy from the Colorado beat, and it was eerily familiar, again!
So, I’m not happy about where the Yankees are by any means, but I guess misery loves company, at least a little.
Bigger question is, what do the yankees do roster wise once A-Rod is officially activated. DFA Ensberg? DFA Betemit? Send down Ramirez?
LET’S GO YANKEES!
Thank gosh I don’t have to see Shelly Duncan batting 4th anymore. Arod is going to need a couple of days to get back into the groove of things. I wouldnt be surprised to him striking out and trying to do too much and hit the ball 500 ft. for the next couple of days. This rain better stop because he might be taken out of the lineup if the weather is still really bad.
Don’t they have 13 pitchers on the roster? If so, they need to drop one when they activate Arod.
13 pitchers on the roster is one too many, IMO.
Rebecca,
ER is a Red Sox fan. He posts his predictions everyday in the game threads. He changed his name, adding, from the set of, when he got outed a few weeks ago.
Yes, if you lose 11 out of 17 games while some dude named A-Rod is out of the lineup…that MAY be part of the problem….YA THINK ???….Getting him back is HUGE…Adding Joba to the rotation ,,,getting Posada back…and another BIG MOVE possibly by HANK ? ( what could HE have up HIS sleeve ? )…..80-38 folks…..80-38 !!!!
I think Pete tried to blacklist me. Good thing we got many terminals on the set.
Shoulda looked at the lineup before I posted! ARod at 3rd. I guess that could change if necessary, right?
That DOES look like a good lineup, with Molina being the only non-regular, but it’s still a regular lineup, because it is what it would be on a regular night of backing up Posada. Okay, guys. Now would be a good time to get it going.
I’m not a sox fan. But I won’t waste my breath on this issue anymore.
Just tell Arod that it’s another, more sophisticated simulated game and he’ll do fine.
Why should Ramirez be sent down? He hasn’t given up a run all season.
One would think that’s a good thing.
My guess is, Britton is the odd man out when they activate Arod.
Let’s see…..
In the last 10 days, the Yankees have promoted McCutchen, Cox, Robertson and Melancon. Its not even June 1 yet.
Veras and Ramirez, who have both pitched well, seem to be getting more traction on the major league roster.
Sounds like they are getting guys ready for roles when they decide to transition Joba to the rotation.
SJ: Ah, my bad!
I apologize if this was already discussed – but I just saw that McCutchen was promoted to AAA.
Is he on the Joba Express?
http://emedia.thetimes-tribune.....fault.aspx
For what it’s worth, I hope Morgan Ensberg doesn’t get cut.
I went to Tampa in March and went to some of the games at Legends/Steinbrenner Field. In one of them, Ensberg got teased by some of the fans, with the “Mor-gan Ens-berg” chant, over and over. He was in the field, and he seemed to take it in stride, even holding up his glove to cover his broad smile and laughs. At the end of the game, after the sprints Girardi had them run, he then came over and signed autographs for everybody.
I know he’s not played much, and hit even less, but he seems like a truly nice guy. I hope he turns it around.
Im no weather man (but I could be cuz theyre not always right either) but it looks like it should clear up by game time.
http://newyork.craigslist.org/.....22661.html
Hmm.
To apply, or not to apply…
“For what it’s worth, I hope Morgan Ensberg doesn’t get cut.”
It certainly seems like Girardi’s decided he’s done. I really didn’t agree with Gonzalez getting the starts against lefties in the last few games. I thought Morgan was putting some good, patient ABs up against some quality pitchers at the end of the TB series, and I figured this’d be his shot with ARod out. Gonzo was going to be on the team anyway, and was pretty unlikely to hit much against the guys going in the Mets series.
Rebecca – I say apply. You can live the dream!
Alan Horne also may be back in Scranton next week.
Horne, McCutchen, Cox, Melancon and Robertson. Even Scott Patterson has picked it up recently.
Six quality arms. Maybe not all NY bound. Perhaps some are being showcased for trade.
Something is up. To promote this many guys this early in the minor league season tells you they are either looking for these guys to head to NY or are showcasing them to other teams to help the parent club in other areas.
Think back to the day….we were 14-13 and only 1 game out of first place….ba bye A-Rod…and while he is away we dig ourselves down to 20-24 and fell back in those 21 days, another 5.5 games to the 6.5 games out that we find ourselves at. We can EASILY get this back. I don’t care WHAT the players say, everyone is going to feed off A-Rod being back in the lineup and playin up to your ability is going to be the NORM rather than the rarity….GO YANKEES….tonight is the start of a HUGE Worst to First run…they can DO IT !!!
( oh, and ER IS a Sox Fan…and WE ALL KNOW IT, BUBB ! )…..oh and remember 5 games back in the loss column with 118 games to go, I think that puts the BoSux magic number at 124, so we’re good !
I think 1 or 2 of the 6 will be traded, Melancon and Horne are the best chance to stay.
Rebecca -
Go for it!
SJ44 -
Like reading the tea leaves!
sounds like the weather isn’t too good since everyone is posting about it lol
I don’t think I can go another day without a game, that ugly Mets series and two days of no baseball and just thinking about that??
I just want to see Alex park one and fire up the team tonight
I think it will be one of the pitchers going down. If they send Britton down again, he should request to be released because this is getting ridiculous.
It’s too bad that BeteStrikeOut is on the DL because I’d love for us to DFA him.
BeteStrikeout has 1/3 the bench offense and hasn’t been the problem
Doreen,
Its what I love to do! lol
I ignore the public comments from Cashman, Girardi or anybody else in the organization because they aren’t going to tip their hands. They are all masters at talking and saying nothing. What they need to do, IMO.
I follow the actions. That always provides more insight to me.
McCutchen hasn’t even pitched that well lately in AA. Yet, he’s called up. This, after Mark Newman intimated to Chad Jennings last week that his promotion wasn’t in the near future.
No doubt in my mind they are positioning guys for two reasons: To see if they can help the Yankees when they transition Joba (especially if Joba has to go to Scranton to get transitioned) or to showcase in trade opportunities to find a first baseman or help at another position.
If Christian Garcia continues to pitch well in Tampa, it wouldn’t shock me to see him in Trenton in a month.
Then, you have the Humberto Sanchez Watch. At some point, he is going to be taking the hill and that’s going to be exciting.
Lots of young arms to follow in the system this summer. Going to be fun to see how it all shakes out.
ensburg has clearly lost the confidence of the manager, if you’re not playing ensburg when arod’s out, there is no place on this team, he would be the logical one to go.
I’d guess a pitcher or Shelley going down.
They need to keep Ensberg and Gonzalez until Betemit comes back. If they need a substitute 3rd baseman and SS/2nd baseman in the same night for some strange reason, without Ensberg, who can do it?
So that’s two people telling me to go for it…hmmm…It’s really tempting, I just don’t know if my mad computer skillz are good enough!
I hope a game is still on – it looks crappy here in Brooklyn.
I like Ensberg but it looks like he’s getting voted off the island soon. Gonzalez is a better IF and Duncan is the backup OF.
I’m happy that ARod is back, but the media worship of him since Sunday’s game has gotta stop. He can help turn it around, but the guy hasn’t played in 3 weeks and everyone’s expecting him to hit 3 homeruns tonight. Great if he does of course, but don’t be surprised if he’s not busting out of the gate at first.
SJ44 -
Do you watch the games via computer, satellite hook-up, or do you just follow whatever trade publications (including internet) that are out there. I KNOW you can’t be at all the games!
Sounds like what you do is more fun that actually watching the major league team — even when they’re winning.
I have to say my husband was quite impressed that I knew who McCutchen was when we went to the game on Sunday. Heck, I was impressed with myself that we were at a AA game and I was actually familiar with several names on the roster. In the past, the only names I was familiar with were Eric Duncan, because he’s from NJ, and Shelley Duncan, ’cause he was around some of the other times we’d gone to games. Oh, and we got to see Melky Cabrera once between call-ups.
It will certainly be interesting to see what comes of all this movement.
Here in New York City (Brooklyn, 8 miles or so from stadium) is at the moment raining hard but they say (880) that it’ll stop around 6 O’clock and just drizzle until mid-night where it will start raining again).
Mark Baker-
I don’t know about anyone else, but speaking for myself, I fully expect that ARod will not be in mid-season form. I am not expecting that he’s going to step in and miracle of miracles, they turn it around 180 degrees. But, still, it’s nice that he’s back and it certainly can’t hurt.
Jeter was on fire when he came off the DL. A-Rod can be too. Doesn’t mean he will. But it’s not like he was out for 3 months and needs to knock the rust off.
sorry, Jeter was never actually on the DL, but point remains the same..
SJ44, if they do trade some of these pitching prospects hopefully they do it for a young ML ready first baseman and not for another veteran. As if there’s not enough veterans on this team already.
Wow Piazza retired has to be one of the quietest ever although not as quiet as Bernie who now hasnt played in 2 years and still has not retired.
Forget about when he played for the Mets I used to hate when he came into Philly as a Dodger as he always killed the Phillies. Growing up in Norristown he felt that he had to do well against the home team and always came through.
How about Glavine killing the Mets. KNowing how Mets fans are I am sure they will be lighting up the radio dial this afternoon ready to fire the whole team.
“BeteStrikeout has 1/3 the bench offense and hasn’t been the problem”
He hasn’t been the solution either. Did you see the last game he played at 3B? Absolutely Atrocious!!
He’s taking up a roster spot. We don’t need him if we are going to keep the Attorney General.
Has anyone seen Spring? I can’t find it anywhere……
I no longer believe weather reports at all. I mean, as a general rule, I don’t listen to long-term forecasts, but I’ve always thought they (weatherpeople) could at least get short-term forecasts right because, well, all they have to do is look out the window.
However, I think there is other motivation going on. I think that someone (I don’t know who – it’s a vast conspiracy, after all) wants people out spending money. They don’t want them to change their plans or decide NOT to go to wherever it is they’re going. So they say things like, cloudy with rain coming later in the afternoon. Or, as posted above, raining heavily now, but reducing to a steady drizzle from 6 until midnight, when it will return to heavy rain. So, people will think, okay, I can go to (the game, the park, the beach, whatever). It’s all SOOO convenient, that timing thing. But it never works that way!!!!!!!!!!!
What a sight for sore eyes!
Go Alex, go Yankees.
On Willie Randolph:
1. public support of FO
2. race card
3. paranoia
something’s a brewin’
SJ,
How many starts would Garcia need to move up and realistically after TJ surgery and all how many innings can we expect? Also, people seem to forget about him and he is still very young, 22, I think.
I’ll introduce the Betemit finger pointers to his production
.269/.296/.462, 3 RBI in 26 ABs, 7 K’s he was 5 for 12 since his recall.
Shelley Wiffleball .194/.293/.250, 1 RBI in 36 ABs, 8 K’s
Gone-zo .237/.295/.289, 1 RBI in 38 ABs, 4 K’s
Morgage Ensberg .214/.276/.257, 4 RBI in 70 ABs, 20 K’s
Gayle -
Piazza retired? Officially? Wow.
Chris I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find it.
Heck, the rain’s supposed to follow me to Italy.
God. I cant believe that Arod is batting 4th! You would think Girardi would make him leadoff so he can get more at bats.
Thought i would keep the complaining of the lineup streak in tact.
Rebecca -
You’re quite a fan if you’re going to take the rain with you and leave some sunshine for the Yankees!!!
Seriously, I hope you don’t get rained on in Italy.
yes Doreen official
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....id=3405188
Betemit hasn’t even batted since May 10; can’t blame him for the offense since then
I expect Arod to hit three home runs and to catch two popups with his hat. And to pitch the 8th inning to help Joba transition to the rotation.
sj,
I asked you a month ago how long do you give Giambi at first? Memorial Day was the date you came up with. Thats a week away. Do you think that they are maybe thinking about pulling the trigger on a first baseman in the up coming weeks? When do we cut our loses?
iv been playing fantasy baseball for years and i have always wrestled with whether to start a guy on the day he comes back from the d.l., and my observation is that guys tend to have big games on the day they come back alot.
the performance going forward for a few days after thier return tends to much less than their normal production, but that first day often seems to be a big one.
Nick: And to catch a few linedrives that, if not caught, would have struck babies.
Ergo, he saves babies while playing baseball.
Rebecca, I can recommend a great restaurant in Florence if you’re going to be there and like steak. Then again, it might be more of a challenge to find a crappy restaurant in Florence than a great one.
Gayle,
Thanks for the link. Nice press release. It can’t be easy coming to terms with the end of your career. And though 39 is oldish for baseball, it’s pretty young in life.
Doreen,
I have a satellite at home. I watch at least 4-6 major league games a night.
I go to about 25-30 Yankee games, home and on the road, during the season.
I am also going to St. Louis this summer for a Cardinals series because I want to see their new stadium.
A good friend of mine works for the Rays. I usually see him a couple of times a year.
The minor league schedule depends on other business I can wrap it around while I’m on the road.
I’m in and out of Charleston a lot for business reasons. That gets me to about a dozen River Dogs games a year.
I recently made my only trips to Trenton and Scranton for this season.
I will go to a few Staten Island games when I am on the road this summer.
Tampa? I catch them for one or two homestands and whenever they get to Jupiter. Which is usually twice a year.
Jax,
I really hope they are scoping AAA and AA to find a legitimate ML prospect who can play first base. I would package a young pitcher or two for somebody like Matt LaPorta. That’s worth the gamble, IMO. Obviously, I don’t know if he is available. He can’t be traded until a year after he signs, according to the rules. But, someone along those lines is what I am talking about.
A guy like Jason Bay, who can play first base, is another option. I don’t see him staying with the Pirates after this season.
If they can find a RH hitting first baseman, not easy to find these days, that would be a best case scenario. If they decide to deal a young arm or two.
i see mike piazza finally figured out what most of us could have told him 5 years ago, that he had nothing left.
that being said, congrats and enjoy your retirement, mike! one of the best offensive (and worst defensive) catchers in the history of the game.
Nick in sf,
Its funny you said that. I was watching “a League of their Own” this weekend and the catcher made a catch doing the splits. The outfielder(madonna)made a catch with her hat. So it only makes sense if Arod catches a pop up with his hat. Then Molins needs to do the splits to catch a pop up. Something tells me that Pena would be better suited for it.
Nick: Thanks–I don’t eat red meat, but my brother loves it so we could certainly look into it!
I think one of the best meals I’ve ever had was at a restaurant/cafe in Piazza della Republica (I think that’s the one with the carosel in it), but I forget what it was called
Go for it Rebecca!
ham fighter,
Didnt Matsui go 4 for 4 his first game back from injury last year?
Hard to believe that Alex missed almost half the games. The next couple of weeks should be interesting to watch.
Mark Baker
Couldn’t agree more. The NY Post A-God headline was over the top.
I would also venture to suggest that A-Rod’s mighty home run swing will, like the fluttering of a butterfly, cause a chain reaction which will resolve in more bountiful harvests than the world without A-Rod would have, such is A-Rod’s contribution to fighting world hunger.
Home runs, defense, saving babies, and combating world hunger, what’s next?
scranton website roster shows britton
World Championships?
Good job glavine…
S.o.S., I was referring more to the Seinfeld episode with Paul O’Neill. I don’t want to see Molina try to do a split until Jorge is closer to being healthy. Maybe Molina could catch a popup while whipping up some tasty Arroz con gandules.
The winner is Britton to SWB.
SOS,
I don’t see them eating 15+ million on Giambi’s contract and DFA’ing him. That’s an ownership call and traditionally, the Steinbrenners don’t like to do that.
I believe they need a first baseman. At some point, it becomes a zero sum game with Giambi. Whatever offense he does provide, and its been minimal, is lost with his wretched play at first base.
Its an awful situation for the Yankees to be in but, its of their own choosing. Next time, I hope they are smarter when it comes to giving out a 7 year deal to a 30 year old first baseman. That was a disasterous contract and I hope that mistake is not repeated anytime soon.
Re: Garcia? He’s an interesting case. Provided he’s healthy, I think the Yankees may stretch him out (in terms of promoting him) quickly because he is Rule 5 eligible after this season.
They need to know what they have in him because they are going to have to make a decision on his future in the organization.
They have already said Betances and McAllister are spending the entire season in Charleston. If Garcia is healthy and is lights out in Tampa, a promotion to Trenton may be in his future.
too slow JT – LOL j/k
What a joke what the organization is doing to Chris Britton. I rather have him get traded to an organization that can need him. Surely the Yankees don’t like him for some reason
I love the Chris Britton lovers. If he is so good he would be on the team.
SJ I’ve said that for sometime Garcia is a fastmover he’s the guy sitting under the radar.
The Braves win proves what I said this weekend – the Mets suck and no two game sweep of the Yankees is going to change that.
Can we finally find a taker for Britton! He has been in the dog house since coming here in the trade. Give the guy his walking papers and let him go somewhere where he has a chance. These are men trying to earn a living. Do him a favor and let him go where he can be appreciated.
i really hope they play b/c the rest of the scehdule looks pretty boring, mets vs. braves might be a good game to watch, but i hate both teams. ditto for wahoo’s vs. pale hose, plus it seems that the always use the sox (ken harrelson) broadcast which is unwatchable.
i do have bowling for columbine taped just in case of rain in ny…
i expect to see tons of player shuffling this year – and i LOVE it! i’m so tired of the retreads being desired here – bonds wells nick johnson etc. why not a pavano resurgence LOL
SEA vs DET tonight. The ultimate battle for the worst AL record.
SOS- Im sure Chris Britton is doing just fine making a living. You make it sound like he is poor.
Bay would be an interesting option at first. He’s righthanded, has a high OBP and hits for power.
But according to baseball-reference.com, he’s never played first.
SJ44, did you mean that you could move him there and hope, or do you know something about his background there?
when, exactly did chris britton piss on girardi’s corn flakes?
Chris Britton said in an interview that he didn’t mind all the shuttling. They let him take all the peanuts and tiny liquor bottles he wants.
“The Braves win proves what I said this weekend – the Mets suck and no two game sweep of the Yankees is going to change that.”
Yes, it is unfortunate the way the Yankees have made mediocre and or flat-out bad teams look like Series contenders this year, isn’t it? In addition to the Mutts, Detroit is another great example…They swept us and then have continued to play like crap after that. Just think how bad Seattle must be that we were actually able to beat them…
Chris Britton will be part of a deal between now and the trading deadline of July 31st.
Too many promising arms to keep him hanging in the balance.
next time they call up britton, he should just send them a lifesize cardboad cutout instead and stay home, nobody would notice anyway.
YankeeXDev:
“Surely the Yankees don’t like him for some reason”
The answer to that statement is devestatingly simple: The Yankees don’t like Chris Britton because he’s an awful pitcher who hasn’t been successful in non-blowout situations. Last year, the Yanks were 1-3 in games he appeared in where they lost or won by less than two runs.
Translation, you don’t trust him unless it’s a blowout, and he doesn’t perform when it isn’t a blowout.
The sooner he’s off the 40-man, the better.
“SEA vs DET tonight. The ultimate battle for the worst AL record.”
Not for long if the Yanks don’t wake up soon!
Possible Yanks first baseman – The Angels Kendrys Morales anyone?
do players on the 40 man roster receive any of the perks of those on the 25 man roster – i.e. per diem and moving expenses?
2 of the 4 actresses in Sex and the city are just plain Ugly.
My question is who would give us anything of even marginal value for Chris Britton? More to the point, what teams do you think would really show interest in him? I can’t see anyone taking even a flyer on the guy.
In future years, when a player gets sent up and down a lot we should use the term “Brittoned”
I hope he gets frequent flier miles.
SJ stop w/ the LaPorta hints, I want that guy at 1B for my team. I just don’t see Milwaukee letting him go.
Philly – You mean the redhead and Sarah Jessica Horse Face?
PJH,
He might not be poor but he sure can make much more playing in the bigs. You and i know that isnt happening with the Yankees. We have an abundance of young studs coming up. If he didnt get the chance last year and early this year. He is S.O.L. Thats the reason i think he should go. We’re deep in that department and like the saying goes. Some peoples trash is others treasure. You have to admit he didnt get a fair chance.
From last thread.
most hated.
add Ben Affleck to that list. He’s gotta be on their payroll.
hey, sara jessica, why the long face?
“He might not be poor but he sure can make much more playing in the bigs.”
I’d be shocked if Britton was on a “two-way” contract (sorry for the hockey term, but I’m not sure what it’s called in baseball). I’m quite sure he makes the same money whether he’s getting some guys out in Scranton or getting lit up in New York.
britton just removed from 25 man roster on nyy website, a-god added!
“hey, sara jessica, why the long face?”
Man, as if “long” was the only problem with her face!
“World Championships?”
I see it now…the clinching runs for the first in a new dynasty will be a monster grand slam by A-Rod in Yankee Stadium…
And on that night, a Dr. Philip S. Schein will be in the audience…
When bat meets ball, it will produce a majestic sound, signaling good things to come…
The ball flies…it goes…and it is a home run…
…and it will hit said doctor in the noggin ever so gracefully.
This will inspire the next breakthrough in cancer treatment.
And that’s how A-Rod will contribute to fighting cancer.
Sweeney on SNY reporting Girardi pulled Alex aside this afternoon and told him he’s valuable to the team just being in the line-up and they don’t need him to try and do too much tonight. More important he be in the line-up in the long run than try to hit 3 HRs or reinjure himself tonight.
SJ44 -
I’m dizzy just reading your schedule! But it sure sounds fun.
My folks live in Staten Island and this year, for the first time, we are going to try and get a game in up there. But I want to do it in style – so, we’re going to hop on the SIRR (Staten Island “Rapid” Transit) as an homage to my youth, and take it all the way to the stadium. I actually can’t wait.
My sister’s mom-in-law lives “not far from” SWB, and we were planning to visit, so maybe we’ll take a side trip to see the team there.
I loved it when a few years ago Tom Hanks and Ron Howard toured the country visiting every major league stadium. I’d love to be healthy (and wealthy) enough to do that when my husband retires. In the meantime, whenever we travel, we try to tie in a visit to whatever the local ballpark is, whether the Yankees are in town or not. Of course, Yankees on the road would be a major plus!
this could happen
So the Yankees have the same record this year after 44 games as last year. They are less games out.
What does this say? Teams in the AL East are better, worse than last year?
Yankees had all their fire power last year and had a losing record.
No Jeter, Arod, or Posada for most of the year.
Not sure what to make of this.
You won’t have Piazza to kick around anymore:
http://sports.myway.com/news/05202008/v1636.html
Mike Piazza is retiring from baseball following a 16-season career in which he became one of the top-hitting catchers in history.
“After discussing my options with my wife, family and agent, I felt it was time to start a new chapter in my life,” he said in a statement released Tuesday by his agent, Dan Lozano. “It has been an amazing journey … So today, I walk away with no regrets.
“I knew this day was coming and over the last two years. I started to make my peace with it. I gave it my all and left everything on the field.”
raymagnetic,
I think Morales is a great idea. If Earth.U.S.CAL of L.A.of Anaheim wants to keep him. Then see what it would take to get Kotchman. Shields seems to be struggling a bit this year and if i can recall. Krod is in his free agent year.
Brandon: Say, where are you hearing the possibility of ‘Melo to the Nets anyway? I want to read up on that
He’ll only be a Net if somehow they win the lottery or get the second pick. Which really is not likely to happen.
“hey, sara jessica, why the long face?”
You guys actually are focused on her face. Folks. The prize is right under neath your nose.
it suddenly occured to arte moreno that he was barking up the wrong tree, so tomorrow the angels will anounce thier new team name: the new york angels of anaheim!
Rebecca, the restaurant is called Sostanza, located on via del Porcellana 25r. Much info about it can be found here:
http://tinyurl.com/4tn9nx
I’m sure they have lots besides the excellent bistecca alla fiorentina, plus your brother will enjoy his steak so much that he’ll be more tolerant of whatever it is that you might want to do. Reservations advised but not necessarily necessary.
via Bill Horne (Alan’s dad)
so altogether 70 pitches on Monday
Blargh: Article in the Bergen Record yesterday.
I meant that red head and that straight hair blonde. btw, just curious, how many of the Yankee ladies here on the blog are planning to see the movie?
That’s encouraging news about Horne… I’d love to see ONE of our pitching prospects (besides Joba) put in a decent outing or two at the major league level this year. Might as well be Horne!
“btw, just curious, how many of the Yankee ladies here on the blog are planning to see the movie?”
I have no plans to see the movie. I didn’t watch the show when it was on Pay Cable so I have no desire to pay $10 to see the movie.
Philly – I will be seeing the movie, probably with some girlfriends, just like the marketers are hoping.
“You guys actually are focused on her face. Folks. The prize is right under neath your nose.”
S.o.S27 – OK, if I’m catching your drift correctly, then I agree. If you just go from the neck down it’s all good!
Philly,
No!
Would like to see Iron Man & the new Indy movie, though.
What Happens in Vegas looks funny, even though I can’t stand Cameron Diaz.
From what I’ve read so far the new Indy movie is kind of lame…
Iron Man is supposed to be good, though!
SoS,
SJP’s best feature are her legs. I still remember her as Annie from when I was a kid.
Who’re you picking for tonight and for the series?
Philly -
I wasn’t planning on seeing it, but my daughter wants to see it with me, so I’m going. Frankly, I enjoyed the series at the time, but it is very dated now. I hope they do better with movie. I think it’s time has come and gone, though, because I no longer care what happens to Carrie, et al.
So, you think Kim Cattrall is not attractive? I think it really depends on your “type,” but I’ll agree that the redhead (Cynthia Nixon) always had me scratching my head as to why she was in this group of women. Sarah Jessica can look good or not, depending on a lot of things. Kristen Davis (the brunette) is pretty in a more traditional way. None of them really, really impress me with their acting “chops.”
Hmm, interesting possible package, though I like Richard Jefferson
Nice potential usage of Van Horn’s contract
Yankees playing tonight? It is pouring outside.
http://zellspinstripeblog.wordpress.com/
Kevin
CD,
I haven’t seen it get panned yet. I saw one headline, “Indy has snap” whatever that means.
Gwyneth I don’t mind, but Kate Blanchett?
Remember Getty Watanabe from the second movie? He grew up and was on ER for a while. Man, I’m old.
Ironman was worth every penny. Best comic book movie since Batman Begins. Must see.
Chicago Dave,
Exactly.
Mel -
I’m a little weary of Cameron Diaz myself. My sister saw Iron Man and LOVED it.
I actually saw some sunlight just now here is Jersey. So maybe they can get the game in?
I still need to see Iron Man. Can’t wait for the SATC movie!
So I guess everyone(talk radio) is talking about Willie’s comments yesterday. Oh lord
It’s not raining in central NJ and sky actually looks a little brighter. It had been raining fairly hard just a while ago. So if the weather is moving toward the Bronx, maybe they can get the game in?
I heard that if you like the first 3 Indy’s then you’d like this one. I hope so. Regardless, it will certain crush all competitions.
Doreen,
Kim Catrall is NOT attractive. Although I liked the movie Mannequin. Remember that? I tried to explain the plot to the kids, but they looked at me like I was nuts. A guy falls in love with a dummy?
The red head came out of the closet after the show, right? Not as pretty as Marcia Cross.
I like SJP and Kristen Davis is “cute”.
zell, thanks for the timely link, i was wondering who would kick off the subway series!
SA you never use Herman Edwards or Isiah Thomas to state your case
mel,
Didnt know that sjp was Annie.
Im in a pickle. I think Detroit can do it. But im not convinced that Billips can stay healthy. I would also like to beat Boston as usual. Any sport. Anytime.
If Billups is healthy. Pistons in 6. If not. Boston in 7.
“SATC movie!”
?
“The red head came out of the closet after the show, right?”
Yes, Cynthia Nixon is now a lesbian after living 15+ yrs with a man. That’s a head scratcher.
Iron Man was amazing. The one movie I really can’t wait to see is the new Batman one, though.
“Raiders” will always be the best Indy film, IMHO. “Temple of Doom” was actually rather forgettable, except for “Short Round” (Getty Watanabe) and that crazy dude that ripped peoples’ hearts out with his bare hands! “Last Crusade” totally lost me, though. I’ll probably just wait until the new one comes out on DVD.
“SATC movie!â€
?
Sex and the City movie
Plan to see:
Iron Man
SATC
The Dark Knight
Indiana Jones
The Incredible Hulk
Brandon,
Maybe he could’ve gotten away with Ty Willingham (who got screwed by ND, but can’t coach at UDub either).
SoS,
I think she was Broadway Annie, I remember her belting out the main tune on a morning show. I was a kid, so that tells you how powerful it was. I’m not supposed to notice things like that.
Pistons in 6 if they steal one early, otherwise Pistons win Game 7. Pierce can’t score 41 every night. Pistons win tonight.
Lotta yellow on the radar. Game will definitely not start on time.
the only thing worth watching in the NBA tonight is the lottery drawing
“The one movie I really can’t wait to see is the new Batman one, though.”
That makes 2 of us. The first was my favorite super hero movie. Hope the second is as good.
“Yes, Cynthia Nixon is now a lesbian after living 15+ yrs with a man.”
So, whoever the “man” was must have a really tremendous self esteem right about now, eh?!
“SA you never use Herman Edwards or Isiah Thomas to state your case”
Oh I agree. Major brain fart on Willie’s part
well, im screwed b/c its my g/f’s turn to pick the movie and she loved satc.
Chicago Dave,
I know this is blasphemy, but I liked the Indy series better than the Star Wars on-and-on-age.
Yes, Cynthia Nixon, the redhead, “came out” afterwards.
mel – I didn’t see Mannequin. I saw her in that Britney Spears movie (Crossroads). Again, none except for SJP, impresses me talent-wise. I actually saw “Square Pegs” when it came out (SJP tv series). Ouch. But I’m surprised people don’t think Kim Catrall is attractive.
Is it good for a woman at 40 to still be considered “cute?” Hmmm. At what age does “cute” become an insult??
mel he should have gone w/ Byron Scott and called it a night
thanks for the reponse ladies. I actually kind of remember that mannequin movie, but I didn’t realize it’s the same chick.
mel – Why, yes, it is blasphemous to prefer the Indy series over the Star Wars saga!!! Just kidding… Actually, I like the Star Wars movies less-and-less as I grow older. I think they’re just much more geared to young kids, you know?
ham fighter,
You should break up with your gf if she makes you see SATC. That’s cruel.
SJP also was on Broadway twice more – How to Succeed in Business (Without Really Trying) opposite her now husband, Matthew Broderick; and Once Upon a Mattress. I saw both, but the second (Mattress) was very memorable. The girl can belt! And she was hysterical.
My two cents… Kim Catrall was much better looking when she did Mannequin – even with the eighties clothes and the eighties hair!
ham fighter –
I agree 100% with mel. Buy the tickets for her and a couple of her friends, and meet them for drinks (or whatever) afterward. You shouldn’t have to go.
Two shows my husband would never watch with me: SATC and Grey’s Anatomy. (Although I sat through Deadwood with him
)
Who you have tomorrow Man U or Chelsea?
Kim Catrall in Mannequin man that’s the old school movies anyone remember Kristy Swanson in the 2nd edition
Chelsea all the way!
Chicago Dave,
Getty Watanabe was not Short Round. Short Round was Jonathan Ke Quan.
Brandon,
They had Version 2.0? Man alive, they’ll remake anything.
In general it’s a bad idea to go past 3 movies in a series. Those prequels for Star Wars were a snooze fest. Although I loved it when JarJar Banks (sp?) said, “How rwude!”
What???? No one plans to see Don’t Mess with the Zohan? It is suppose to be Rob Sneider’s finest work in years. Years!!!
Glad to hear that it is clearing in NJ. I am not far from the stadium and it is still pouring. Hopefully the clearing weather is moving this way.
“Rebecca, the restaurant is called Sostanza, located on via del Porcellana 25r. Much info about it can be found here:”
Nick this is just bizarre, I was at Trattoria Sostanza last week. Rebecca if you are going to be in Florence I’d defintely recommend the place but not because of the steak. If you go there make sure you get the chicken in brown butter, it is possibly the best chicken dish I’ve ever had. Sostanza is a very small place and at first glance it looks crappy but it’s actually fantastic.
The best restaurant I was at in Florence though was La Giostra, you should definitely try to get there too.
Phil’s right. My bad. Gedde Watanabe first big films were 16 Candles and Gung Ho.
3 lefties back to back to back. Can’t wait til Jorge gets back, too.
Meachem away from the team for 2 days for his sons graduation. Tony Pena coaching 3rd tonight.
pat,
That’s good news, right? I meant, uh, congratulations to Bobby Meachem.
Pat – that is good news. Who is coaching 1st?
Patrick, that is bizarre, but it just goes to show you, Yankee fans have good taste, from the Bronx to the banks of the Arno.
Who will win when Man U plays Chelski? I don’t know, but I already know who will lose: Arsenal fans. Just wait ’til next year.
Mel – We were thinking alike. I posted the same thing at the same time you did.
Catrell in Mannequin was a dream, Swanson in the Man #2 on the move was more like the beach Cali girl brought from midevil times. The song is stuck in my head now “Nothing’s gonna stop us now”…alright people be back later
Og seeKanY
i had to look them up b/c i didnt know which was which.
the players:

id say 2/4 is accurate
apparently the blog didnt like the pics, severak tries and it doesnt want to post!
Fran,
Great minds think…
The big band of yuck is moving towards Boston!
i tried to post links to pics of all 4 satc stars but was rejected 4 times. seems the blog is not big on chick flix either!
Girardi didn’t say who would be handling 1st. Only he would be reminding Pena at 3rd to be careful with Alex rounding third on the wet grass.
hamfighter,
The blog seems to be moderating more nowadays.
But the one thing it will catch is multiple links.
Pat –
“Only he would be reminding Pena at 3rd to be careful with Alex rounding third on the wet grass.”
I like Girardi’s positive thinking.
didnt know it was a no-no. i had to look them up to see which was who. id say sjp and kim cattrall are no better looking than half the women i work with, while nixon is a nice looking woman and davis is still quite attractive.
How many more games do we gotta see giambi in!? Give shelly some full games already! he gets one at-bat every 7 days and people expect him to produce….how lame…AND, giambi is the worst at first, he lets balls get by him every single game. They may not call them errors, but they SHOULD be! cause if you can’t stop a ball hit one foot to your right, then you should not be out there. And his offense has been absolutely horrendous. 1 home run every 6 days and nothing else ain’t gonna cut it. Torre would have benched him by now. He NEEDS to be BENCHED!
back to baseball. all over baseball there are guys playing with quad strains, jeter is one. its always a tough call whether to dl and rest a guy or let him play injured and hope it gets better. the one thing you have to do if you decide to sit them is to make sure he’s 100% before you bring him back. if they feel that they have to worry about him rounding a base now, they are bringing him back too soon. i assume that he is coming back at close to 100% or they risk wasting the entire d.l time.
Peter Abraham,
Maybe you were right about condemning those who cannot cheer Jon Lester on. I guess “karma” came back to bite your favorite senator Kennedy with his malignant brain tumor. I can only hope that the same karma comes back to inflict ruthless pain on your hero, Belichick. But then again, I’m pretty sure Kennedy will be miraculously cured the way Lester and Kessel easily overcame cancer, Papi spit in the face of his irregular heartbeat, Gammons lucked into someone finding him with his brain aneurysm, Paul Pierce played 8 weeks after being stabbed, and Tedy Bruschi played only months after after being stroked.
Oh well, such is life, but I still wonder if any Boston sports figure could overcome a plane crash, unlike Munson and Lidle. Again, pretty sure.
Kim Catrell more attractive in Mannequin than in the SATC movie? Why would that be a surprise?
Ladies, in which movie was Henry Fonda more attractive, The Lady Eve or On Golden Pond?
Doreen,
I had to watch Greys Anotomy for a little while. I hated it. But in turn she had to watch.
24
lost
heroes
supernatural
prison break
Now i just watch desperate house wives with her at times.
ham fighter,
If she insist on taking you to watch sinc. Make sure you dont sleep the night before and take the time to do so then. She got to see her show and you still get to go home with her.
mel,
I thought manU was Ginoblii. Man here i thought you were finally seeing the light.
“id say sjp and kim cattrall are no better looking than half the women i work with”
Again,its all about sjp body.
nonfan
wishing cancer on ppl or saying its karma for his political beliefs is as low as i have ever heard.
Nick,
Neither! Now if you want to do Pacino in Godfather vs. Pacino in Ocean’s whatever then I see your point.
The point is that she’s a little too old to play the sexpot. Catrell was really coy on whether this was is for the SATC. She’s like, “Well you never say never” What’s left? Sex and the City in Boca Raton?
Brandon,
Yes, I became a Manchester United fan yesterday. Rebecca convinced me (and their part of the Yankee family).
“Ted Kennedy has spent his life caring for those in need,” said Senator Richard J. Durbin of Illinois, the second-ranking Democrat in the Senate.
I guess he cared for that poor girl he left behind to die in the lake. I wish Sen. Ken cared for his Massachusetts citizens the way he cared for her.
nonfan-
You have some really nice things to say huh? Crawl back into your hole & disappear.
I did not wish cancer upon anyone, however hamfigher, know your history.
That’s for SoS and that’s “they’re”.
Anyone near the stadium?
you called kennedy’s cancer ‘karma’ and wished the same karma on bellichick. maybe you should read your own writing jerk.
hamfighter -
You must have seen a very much touched up photo of Cynthia Nixon.
Nick in SF -
I never thought Henry Fonda was attractive at all.
Now, ask me about Robert Redford, that’s another story. Definitely more attractive in The Way We Were, Butch Cassiday, The Candidate, All the President’s Men, etc. Okay attractive in teh one with Demi Moore. These days, he just doesn’t do it for me.
Or how about Paul McCartney. Beatles – cute; Wings – really cute; now – not so much, but the accent and the voice still melt my heart.
S.A.,
few more you gotta check out this summer; Hancock, and The Happening
Anyone have plans to watch the game on next week in Bryant Park?
Not raining 10 miles north. Seeing on YES that tarp is off the field.
mel, I was going to say in which movie do you find Charlton Heston more attractive, Ben Hur or Bowling for Comumbine, but that just would have been silly.
By the way, I find it highly offensive that some on this board appear to be objectifying women and their physical attributes. Having said that, I thought SJP was really hot in L.A. Story!
non,
Isnt it naptime for you?
Get off the computer and watch your spongebob. Grow up loser!!
These are direct quotes from Pete Abe:
“Be careful of that karma, it’ll come back to get you. I do believe that bad people usually end up with bad things happening to them. Fitting, I guess.”
I was wondering if he was referring to Bill Belichick and his Patriots. I guess those 7 years of cheating came back to get them and cost them perfection. Or maybe Belichick doesnt count in Pete’s mind as a bad person. I guess hypocrisy isnt a word in Pete’s vocabulary.
Foofighter,
I never said I wished cancer on Belicheat, only ruthless pain, which can be anything. As for sen ken, he killed an innocent girl and got away with it scot-free. However, he’s a Bostonian and will likely luck out of his tumor anyway.
I guess they’re playing.
not that your lack of basic human dignity deserves any review…
“I guess “karma†came back to bite your favorite senator Kennedy with his malignant brain tumor. I can only hope that the same karma comes back to inflict ruthless pain on your hero, Belichick. ”
now explain how that is NOT wishing cancer on bellichick.
better yet, dont.
Lets go A-Rod…c’mon get out of our slump.
Really off track from some of the cruel crap floating around here, but I’m a big believer in living a good clean life so that when you’re on your deathbed you have no regrets and no guilt.
I do hope that Senator Kennedy takes a good, long look at himself and comes to terms with what his life has been.
“I find it highly offensive that some on this board appear to be objectifying women and their physical attributes.”
Damn nick. Your right. I guess i should have told my wife that i liked her teeth. Im going to seek some professional help. Cause im addicted to 36/24/36 or anything close to it. Lowest of the low. I tell ya.
Who’s going to win on American Idol tonight? Which David? I might even vote tonight!
Doreen,
I am going to go out on a limb and say David Ortiz. Bostonians get handed everything else, why not A.I.
Hamfighter,
I am saying right now, I do not wish cancer on Belicheat (although that would be fitting). I wish karma to bite him, whether that be him losing all his money or his women dump him like the bad habit he is.
First pitch delayed 5 minutes. 7:10 game start.
Looks better outside. Let’s get a win!
We were having a great conversation about Sarah Jessica Parker’s breasts and now we’re getting nasty cancer trolls? That just ain’t right.
and another thing, idiot, there is likely nobody on this board that knows american history better than i do. i went to valley forge YESTERDAY and said a prayer for our fallen heroes.
like his politics or not, kennedy is rated by congresmen from both sides of the aisle as one of the most effective senators in the history of the senate.
now go slither back under whatever rock you crawled out from under.
I have a story I’d like to share with you.
I just came back from the wake of a son of a good friend I work with. Her son died from brain cancer at the age of 37. He had fought the battle since he was 21, and they actually thought he had won it until it was diagnosed as having come back two weeks before he got married, about four years ago. He was a lifelong Yankee fan, and his mother would tell me about how aggravated he was that he couldn’t get Yankee games in LA or Las Vegas, where he lived. I realized he was a Yankee fan but didn’t realize just how much of one until I read his obit and went to his wake. He had produced a feature film with some academy award nominee and had written a screenplay about the Yankees. He and his wife had two dogs, one named Jeter.
I walked into the wake and one of the funeral bouquets was a large round bouquet with the interlocking NY. A large beautiful Yankee pennant was in the coffin and will be buried with him. One of his brothers told me that Chris had the interlocking NY tatooed onto his shoulder.
I would like to dedicate tonight’s game to Chris Boudreau. I’ve never seen anyone fight so hard to live or to die with so much dignity. Enjoy tonight’s game at peace Chris, and maybe work a little magic up there and help our Yanks to get back on the right road!
GO YANKEES!
etter be David Cook!!
Hey everyone – several weeks of posting for me to catch up on. I’ll start by jumping on the hot non-baseball topic of the day:
What, nobody remembers Kim Cattrall as Ms. Honeywell in Porky’s?
She was the gym teacher that was turned on by the smell of the men’s locker room and howled during sex. Classic 80′s teen coming-of-age movie.
I’ve never understood the popularity of a show featuring women that most people seem to find unattractive sleeping around. Sarah Jessica Parker is just flat out fugly. And I’m sorry, her body is nothing to write home about either, IMO.
Then again, these days you can be a skinny, pasty, greasy-haired guy with a bad attempt at beard stubble …. and all you have to do is slap on a little Axe body spray and you’re hot. Right?
Ah, Hollywood – if ye say it be true, it must be.
Anyway, go Yanks! The season starts to get turned around tonight.
Rebecca – I’m with you. I think it will be David Cook.
Can’t watch the game, but I hope they do well and A-Rod does great!
Rebecca -
That’s the David who may actually get me to vote for the first time!
Nick in SF -
I thought we were talking about her legs!
Dorren – who do you think it will be?
Trisha,
Thanks, really puts things in perspective.
Wilbon was just saying that Lester’s no-hitter was more inspirational than historical because cancer touches everyone.
Doreen – sorry I misspelled your name.
Hey Wolf -
Nice to “see” you again. Hope all is well.
anyone else having problems getting in to MLB.TV?
Doreen – it’ll be Cook.
Trisha – I had a friend pass from cancer when we were in our early 30′s. He fought like a warrior too and your post brings back a lot of bittersweet memories. Here’s to Chris Boudreau.
Trisha – I am sorry that your friend’s son lost his battle. It really does put things in perspective.
here’s to chris baudreau and all the others like him who have gone before!
Fran,
Whiile I’d LOVE to think it will be David Cook, because, for one, he seems like he can just slip into the “role” of American Idol 2008, plus he was original, had a really good voice, and just has “it.”
But I fear that David A., who has the young tween girls (who vote in droves) and all the grandmas on his side (who, if they’re watching with their tween granddaughters, will also vote), may eke out a victory here. I think he’s got a wonderful voice (for ballads) and a great career ahead of him, but he’s just TOO YOUNG at 17 years old. But who am I to say?
I also think that if the AI producers could “fix” it, they’d make sure David Cook can win, since he is not a minor, and since David A.’s father will certainly be a person who wants to be involved. And I can’t say there’s anything wrong with that, since his son is under age.
Trisha -
My sincere condolescences.
I was about to type my daily, Why Giambi? Post.. but I see he’s got 12 walks in 23 Pa’s against Cabrera. So ok, hopefully he doesn’t give the O’s any help with his extremely poor defense.
I have to say that i stopped watching AI since Chris Daughtry got cut. Its a popularity contest and i truely believe its fixed. They had a special last year that said the judges would purposely critique someone or give props to make sure they were voted for/cut.
In the real world – Clinton won KY.
Now, back to Nick in SF’s discussion Jessica Parker’s attributes!
Masterson on the mound for Boston. Should be interesting to see what they do. That big mass is headed toward Beantown.
trisha,
Very touching story. We found out that my Aunt that lives in another country has had cancer for 6 years and didnt tell anyone. Now she’s on her last days. I wouldnt wish that on my worst enemy. Heres to finally finding the cause and cure for it.
Trisha-sorry to hear that about your friend’s son
wt_! scranton/wb crushed masterson in his last appearance for the pawsox
Trisha – will be thinking of your friend’s family. We have been dealing with a lot of cancer in our family lately and can appreciate what his family went through…
“Delayed Wet Grounds” Is that beyond the 5 minute delay?
Game starting in Boston.
I think AI is fixed too. I still watch it, but i’m under no illusions that the best singer will necessarily win.
I’m sorry about your friends son, Trisha.
Angel, you summed it up for me entirely.
Carl Pavano is expected to win the American Idle Award tonight. No real competition.
Sorry to hear bout your story Trisha. If only he were a Red Sox fan, or perhaps Peter Gammons or Jon Lester, he’d still be alive. I had a very close uncle (huge yankees fan) who suffered the same way Sen. Kennedy should (barring any miracles) and died within three weeks.
hamfighter, I dont give a sh*t about his politics. He killed an innocent girl and as Kevin Harlan would say, he had no regard for human life.
AI is absolutely a popularity contest. Only reason I watched this year was to have a connection with my daughter who was away at school. I didn’t start watching until the finals.
Let’s Go Moose.
Who got sent down?
Doreen,
You talked about the AI producers “fixing it” – well there was talk that Season 2 when Rueben beat Clay that the producers blocked Clay’s line so he could not get as many votes. They were concerned about his sexuality. It was probably just gossip, but who is to know if they do pick the one they want to win?
loser troll
i wish you a long and healthy life. and when they plant you i hope the funeral director decides to say a few nice words over your grave, even though the gravedigger will likely be the only person within earshot.
oops. nevermind!
Britton was sent down
Thank you all so much for your kind words. I cannot tell you how much all of our love of the Yankees bore into my soul when I saw the interlocking NY flowers and other Yankee momentos at his wake.
You are lovely people and friends.
thanks hamfighter, I appreciate the kind words. Maybe I’ll die in a plane crash, and there wont be any carcas to plant. I do work within the Yankees organization, albeit a janitor
I’m keeping the positive vibe going as I hit the road, but the leadoff walk has a way of….
Didn’t I say last week that the birds will sweep?
Eek
Come on Mussina!
Maybe I should think about a team change. If I go to the Red Sox, I can have a stroke and play football less than a year later.
Fran -
I had heard there was trouble with the phone lines when Ruben and Clay were up against each other.
C’Mon Moose!
Hey Wolf.. nice to see you around here.
wake up robbie theres a game goin on here!
At least it didn’t go into the stands. Stinks!
Okay, moment of truth for Moose. Jete’s with an error.
Captain Error.
Can’t blame Cano – that was an easy play to first if Jete makes a decent throw he is out by 3 steps
Jeets…what the hell was that
Wow, Jeter really needs to make that play. It’s a mystery how such an easy throw can be botched. Awful play.
I think Jeets is pissed at Cano.
yes the throwing error is jeters, but there was no play at 2b, the closest play, b/c cano got there behind the runner.
Hi Angel – good to be back.
Typical Moose. Letting the error effect his pitching.
How can you walk someone hitting .209?
Quick! Someone please find Hank and put a microphone in front of him!
Oh dang it
This isn’t a good start
i feel like every game we spot the other team 2 runs in the first 3 innings. i do hope this doesnt become a pattern
If Jeter is pissed at Cano then Jeter needs to be benched. I don’t care how good of hitter he is, if he can’t consistently make an easy throw to first base then maybe he shouldn’t be playing…
wow…ridiculous
Thanks a lot, Jeter.
What would Jamie Moyer do?
HEY CASHMAN…. THIS … TEAM…. SUCKS!!!! DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT
Daniel Cabrera usually has no hit stuff against the Yankees…this game is about over
Holy smoke!
I’m dumb-founded.
Jeter made an era but Mussina just doesn’t look sharp.
david, how do you blame jeter for his error and NOT cano for not covering his base?
can arod pitch?
Would the real Mike Mussina please stand up?
Would the real Mike Mussina please stand up?
Man, this team is snake bitten.
I don’t even know what to say.
When is that NBA Draft Lottery? 8pm?
um – error looming HUGE right now
Wow – not the Moose we’ve been seeing the last several starts. Hopefully he gets back into a groove in the 2nd.
And our offense has already got its work cut out for them. As if they needed help.
i apologize, now this is ridiculous.
didn’t take long for the sj44 negative brigade to take over tonight
Yay we lost again!
People tease about Alex swinging like he’s trying to hit a 7 run homer but he may really need to do it tonight.
I guess I’ll be watching AI and not just flipping in to catch bits and pieces. Man oh man.
lets go
5 runs is nothing for the 2008 version 2 Yankees offense.
abreu’s 3rd straight off the line throw to home in the past 2 games
Early night tonight this game is over
6-0
wow
oh my lord…the game is over in the first 15 minutes…wow
I’m not usually a fan of booing, but those fans have a right to Boo. Tickets prices are sky high and you have to watch this crap!!
I think i just threw up a little bit
How can you expect kennedy with this type of defense?
1 more out Moose..please. End this
Are all you band wagon fans going to leave now??? PLEASE!!!
ham fighter, how can you even ATTEMPT to blame Cano? That would have been a close play at second, on such an easy throw, you NEVER go to second if there’s any chance of it being close. Cano couldn’t get there in time… Are you telling me that Jeter shouldn’t be able to make that throw to first? It’s such an incredibly easy throw… Even if he puts it in the dirt Giambi probably scoops it.
“Wow – not the Moose we’ve been seeing the last several starts. Hopefully he gets back into a groove in the 2nd.”
Hopefully he makes it to the 2nd
This game got ugly in the blink of an eye
**now a WP pitch by Moose**
the beat goes on.. this ump sucks.. he better squeeze cabrera the same..
I did not see Jeter do his magic.. we will see if they have any guts or are as soft as they have played so far this yr.
enough with the abreu good arm nonsense, he never throws anyone out..
baltimore reminds me of the yanks with there clutch hitting…..
WTF
It’s cool; this will set up A-Rod’s 3 HRs tonight
Each one of those HRs are gonna be so full of clutch, you can taste it over the airwaves/internet
Oh my…….Johnny! Wow!
Cano did not cover…that is where he is supposed to be on that play. He dog’s it running down tot he first two, I’d sit him. This game is garbage, no way this years offense scores 7.
Wow, we have a full troll contingent here tonight. ALong with newcomer Senator Kennedy we have ER, of course, and Eugie, and Mike with his creepy SJ44 fantasies. It could get worse before it gets better.
Well it looks like all of you cheering for Lester really helped out the Yanks’ karma. Congratulations.
errors or no, they are knocking moose all over the park, he had NOTHING tonight.
I feel ill
i wish George still had his f’n mind….. someone get Paul O’Niel in the dugout and beat the crap out of something/someone…. then go play right field preferably
Look at all the faces on the stands. It’s the top of the first inning and everyone already knows we have lost the game.
I look forward to hearing Mussina’s post game comments.
well….good try johnny….
3 or 4 2 out hits all with 2 strikes.. adam jones!!!!!!!!!
another UGLY UGLY outing..
WOW….
pathetic…
I feel like I’m watching the Anti-Yankees. Like it’s the twilight zone or something. Nothing, but nothing goes right.
And down 7-0, I think it’s fairly sane to be none to optimistic about the outcome of this game. But hey, there’s 9 innings for Yankees to score…………………..
Amazing how this team manages to go from bad to worse in just 1 inning.
So..
Who needs a drink.. I think vodka shots are needed
A-rod’s triumphant return! This is embarrassing to watch, they just look old and awful.
let’s bring some spirit to this game and collectively remember that time a couple years ago when we were down by 9 ( 11? 13?) runs to Texas and came alllll the way back, capped off with a JP walk off HR…
but as a side point… why does Ohlendorf have to be the mop-up man???? It sucks.. he’s so much better than that
Sorry, Steve, I forgot you.
steve/kenndy/troll
why did you change your sn back?
Yanks are becoming more pathetic by the game, if that’s possible.
Watching on Gameday so what was the Jeter error? High, low, in the dirt, no chance there and what did it have to do with Cano?
The first hit after the error I can understand, but Moose’s total unraveling after the error is ridiculous for a veteran pitcher. Now we get RO, who will most definitely give up more runs. Great way to welcome Alex back.
I’m not going to get into criticizing Girardi too much, but why did he (or Eiland for that matter) wait until 7 runs were scored before even making a visit to the mound?
There seems to be something about winning 6 games and then losing it. Wang flew threw his first 6 wins, and now struggles to find #7. Moose got 6 tough ones, and now he is back to square one.
Doreen,
it’s like that “Seinfeld” episode when they were in the Bizarro world.
Damon looked different. Did he shave his head?
That error by Derek really opened up the flood gates. This is so frustrating. Looked like Derek was annoyed with Cano for not covering, but he had an easy throw to 1st. No excuses.
I have a hard time getting down on Moose because he has been so great for us. Wish he could have kept it together.
I was getting dinner so didn’t see the play or replay but should Robby have been there?
Anyway, let’s go Yankees. Wish we had a long reliever in the pen.
“It’s the top of the first inning and everyone already knows we have lost the game.”
What are talking about? Remember Arod is back to fix all of the problems on this team?
All joking aside even before Jeter’s error Mussina wasn’t sharp.
I think Mooose got a High Directive to go into the tank to take the pressure off Arod in his return. All part of the Master Plan.
I know Mussina didn’t look sharp, but you never know – if that 3rd out was made, he goes back to the dugout and maybe comes in a little sharper, adjusted to the strike zone in the next inning.
That being said he should never have walked a run in.
Pete already told us how this game is going to be finished: Alex hitting the winning homer (“So while Alex is hitting a three-run bomb in the eighth inning to win the game”).
The in between, like Moose blowing up, are details that make the game interesting!
I like hwo he comes in and starts throwing strikes right away
Why is Ross Ohlendorf the long man? Wasn’t the sole reason for moving him into pen was so he could throw only an inning or two, and that his stuff was that much better in short stints?
Well I guess working late and missing the game was a smart decision.
Christa….it was a grounder to jeter he wanted to get the force at 2nd but cano got there late and jeter threw it high to giambi and giambi had to jump to catch it and landed on the bag just too late to get the baserunner
Nick in SF:
You forgot me.Theres only two kind of people on here. The trolls like me and the “others” who thought Mussina was gonna have a Pettitte year this year (200 innings,15 wins and a 3.50 Era) and that all we have to do is wait for Hughes to comeback to win.
Oh yeah the “others” believe FRansworth and 6ERa Ohlendorff will be set-up men.
The Yankees aren’t having Kennedy,Joba and Hughes again next year thats for sure.
Finally the top half of the first inning is OVER
Man, I would love to be in that dugout.
That’s finally over with.
ugh
Pat -
I noticed that about Damon too. No hair on the side of his head. Can’t wait to see what’s underneath! (Gotta find something interesting about this game.)
So when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Who says this won’t be the night that we score 10 runs!
You never know. Hey, we have a long time to do it.
GO YANKEES!
I guess A-God isn’t the Messiah after all.
This is pathetic. I am not a troll by the way, I have been posting here for at least 5 or 6 months. I guess wanting the option to not cheer for Lester makes me a troll. Oh well.
I try to be calm and logical. But down 7-0 to the Orioles in the top of the 1st. . . I mean c’mon.
Game’s on Jetes
27 outs to score 7 runs…doable (not a slam dunk, but doable)…need to hit the ground running here
wolf its the first inning. he was hoping moose would calm down and get his stride back. you cant just throw your whole bullpen away like that at the start of a series without giving the starter a chance.
The way I look at it, this just sets the stage for a dramatic comeback…for a game that will become a Yankees Classic…
Let’s Go A-Rod!!!!
Let’s Go Yanks!!!!
We suck.
You can’t do anything but laugh at this team and the way they play. A 25 minute baseball game. Shortest in MLB history.
I love arod… See him ready to go giving Long the fist bump! He looks ready to go!!! He’s pumped, baby!!!
look at it this way.. at this rate there’s only 8.5 hours left in hte game… that’s plenty of time to score some runs, no?
what the heck is going on? they’re playing as if they want to lose…..they don’t field, they don’t pitch, they don’t hit, they don’t win. at what point can we ditch them and start cheering for the rays?
Moose just couldn’t get the third out, with everything steamrolling after Jete’s error. Sometimes that’s just the way that it goes. He’ll bounce back, although it was really a rotten time for him to have a poor outing. Murphy’s Law seems to be dictating everything for the Yankees at this point.
Mel- I am REALLY hoping that my Grizz can get lucky in the lottery here in a bit!
Maybe the offense will get going tonight and we will come back and take the lead.
Maybe..
I won’t hold my breath though..
7 runs, 1 ER, lol/
Now Yanks go 1, 2, 3. Wanna bet?
Sometimes, pitchers have a hard time when they have a lead. Let’s hope that’s true tonight.
Who pitched tonight? Clay Parker?
anyone wnat to hope for a miracle, all 3 get on base and Arod gets a grandslam for his first at bat back to get back in the game?
We can dream can’t we
Thanks Corey that sucks but we do have 9 innings, remember last year we gave up 8 to the White Sox in the second and came back to score 8 the next inning, lets do that tonight anything is possible!
What worries me more than losing another game is that this could lead to troubles in the club house. This is the 3rd time I’ve seen Jeter looking mighty pissed at Giambi or Cano.
…and the long climb back has begun!
Did you hear the way Kay said that? As if it were a shocking event.
First man on, that’s a start.
MoBoy, you’re in a seperate category from the regular Red Sox trolls. You generally stick to one general topic, which lately has been misrepresenting (or misunderstanding) things that I’ve said about Joba. But you do tend to use straw men arguments when you post, so if you want to be included in the pantheon of trolls, I’ll give you some consideration.
Well, that was NOT a good start. Lets see what the offense does when their backs are truly to the wall after half an inning.
I admire Dan Cabrera for his run support. I bet the entire Yankee pitching staff envies him too.
Time to start chipping away
yeahhh captain GiDP
If the Yankees can come back from this, it would do wonders for the team’s morale.
i didn’t see the DP by Jeter coming…. is there a sarcasm font?
welcome back dp jeter we missed you
Trisha – Derek was looking to second and Cano seemed to be late covering; but even so he had an easy throw to first and plenty of time but he threw it way high.
And his DP just now did not help.
So Derek, how was your first inning?
“Who pitched tonight? Clay Parker?”
I think it was Clay Aiken.
Hey, we don’t even need a full run per inning to catch up and go ahead, this is doable.
GiDP?
A huge error and a DP in the same inning. Not a good day for Mr. Jeter.
Well, it looks gloomy right now.
But, I do believe that yanks will win this game and from here they will go on a tear.
A-Rod will make the difference as Pete predicted.
!!!!! However, we have to make sure Jeter does not commit any more errors or hit into double plays to kill rallies!!! Just kidding.
what the heck kind of day is Jeter having????
I dont think Jeter has any right to be pissed at Giambi on that play. But for Giambi reaching up that ball goes into the stands.
He especialy has no right after that AB there.
*sigh*
and the dp machine is at it again
remember lat yr (2 yrs ago maybe) when DC almost pitched a nono against us and then his bffer robbie took it away in the ninth
ground into double play er?
New game, new night, same old sad Yankees. Good to see that fire. Hopefully the game will get called for rain. Only thing to save this team from making bigger arses of themselves.
See even Arod can’t right this ship.
Guys, where can I get live coverage of the NBA lottery draft picks? Is any media outlet covering it live? MSG network?
Come on Knickerbockers!
now a GIDP. Not a good start to Arod’s return
Game should have been 1-0 going into the bottom of the first.
Jeter has been a ton of bad throws to first lately.
Jeter sucks tonight, but…. mussina should pick up his teammates….no excuses
Jesus Christ Jeter!!!!
FYI — Tigers winning, Sux winning.
1,2,3, they went.
Bad pitching, errors, and hitting into double plays is the Yankee way.
ESPN has the lotter pick starting at 8pm
Damn. Espinoza makes an error, then grounds into a double play. Parker can’t get out of the first inning, and now we need a big relief outing from Guetterman.
I might just watch Knight Rider instead.
Giambi really has saved a lot of errors by playing first the way he does. For real. His defense is so much better than he’s given credit for.
What’s to say other than let’s hope we hold them here and put some runs in the board.
GO YANKEES.
“See even Arod can’t right this ship.”
Is there any need to sound so gratified about that?
The starting pitching lately has been horrid. I can’t believe that the Mets couldn’t score against the Nats last week and couldn’t touch Glavine today. But against the Yankees this weekend they scored a ton of runs.
The Yanks really need to get their act together. Tomorrow is Rasner and Thursday IPK. Don’t know what to expect from him.
Time to start banging my head against the wall
Thanks JMAC!
Mussina is entitled to a bad night on the mound. As someone pointed out, Moose didn’t look that sharp even before the error.
fred – I didn’t say take the starter out and bring the bullpen in. I said a visit to the mound. Maybe calm Moose down or give him a breather. Ask if something is wrong.
can they play any worse???
IS it possible… the have to be high in the league in hitting into DP.s? Anyone have that stat???
Know Ohlendorf will be blown out for days.
Man this is a head scratching team… espn for the lottery I think at 5 pm…
The announcers did not say anything about Cano except that he was playing deep because of the situation and couldn’t get to 2nd on time. Not in a blaming way, more matter-of-fact. But Jeter had plenty of time to get a good throw off to Giambi. And Giambi did make a great save. So our favorite punching bag did a good thing.
7-0 and I just got home, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
Complete-game, 1-hit shutout by Cabrera?
Way to answer back to those 7 runs, boys.
I can’t watch the game. Did Jeter get booed?
I guess I was not kidding. Jeter did hit into a double play.
It is almost like he does not want A-Rod to have a chance to save the game. One more DP by Jeter, there goes Pete’s prediction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the Knicks can get the first pick I’ll at least feel a bit happier, just don’t see this offense coming up with 7 runs…or more.
Also our outfielders look like a bunch of old men with canes. Bobby looked awful out there, as did Damon. I really think it is time to start to make changes.
Even Alex can’t hit a 7-run homerun.
the rumbling, stumbling, bumbling, yankees.
I hope Pete doesn’t check his blackberry during intermission of Jersey Boys…
I hope Hank doesn’t tempt faith anymore and always opens his big mouth the day before Moose pitches.
This is on Mike Mussina not Derek Jeter. Mussina had six other opportunities aside from the Jeter error to get the third out.
wow sick play johnny…
I changed my prediction. Instead of 92 wins, I predict Yanks not even winning 81
Gardnerrrrrrrrrrr….. Gardnerrrrrrrrrr
can they just call the game now?
Paging Brett Gardner.
This is ridiculous now. No excuses for Damon.
Can they sulk and go home now? Please???? I’d rather they forfeit than suffer through this.
oh Damon. When it rains it pours
wow – more 2 out runs. when was the last time the Yankees did that?
trisha – I think your post from 6:48 is very touching. It really got me choked up.
SJ44 – I really think your argument about Jason staying because of his contract is flawed logic. That is money is committed, regardless of whether he plays for the Yanks or not. It’s like wearing an ill-fitting pair of shoes that hurt your feet just because they cost a lot of money. The only question is whether or not Jason has anything left. If he doesn’t, then the question becomes how much more money you spend to get production out of his spot on the team. If it is a minor league player, like Matt LaPorta, who plays for the minimum salary, then it is almost budget neutral.
That’s my take. I may be wrong in this, but that’s my take.
this is unreal they look like a little league team out there
You know what, Cano should be fined for Damon missing that popup. Two god awful plays by Damon and Jeter tonight and Cano isn’t benched yet? What’s going on?
Catching a pop fly in left. So easy even a caveman, er. Never mind.
Pat -
Damon NEEDS hair.
Not that it’s important in a game like this, but Ken Singleton might have just cost YES a little bit of licensing money.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H....._in_public
Doreen – unfortunately there is no mercy rule.
Apparently the different look on Damon’s head is the result of a lobotomy.
90% of this team is flat out down on itself and it glares.
I would sit A Rod another game. Isn’t 7-0 after 1 inning the mercy rule?
haha ok Flash when its 8-0 in the 2nd inning is the time when you know things are going wrong? i wish michael kay said that i usually enjoy johns commentary.
FYI — Kevin Millar now hitting 0.479 against yanks for his career.
i gotta say…that damon play made me laugh…..
Luke Scott….the unintentional yankee killer
who was talking about the cakewalk schedule???
Nick in SF:
Well everybody can’t live in Fantasy land like you.I know you are the person that thought Mussina was gonna win 15 wins. And that Duncan was gonna have 30 homers.
A lot of people thought that Kennedy,Hughes and Joba were all gonna pitch great in the rotation this year. But it gonna take more then a year to get to that.
Now lets see what 1 or 2 pitchers will be here by next year.Because that is a fact.
8-0 LOL, come on Hank!
Wow – just got in from work – flick on the game and we’re down 7-zip…
I’m going to find ‘Peabody and Sherman’ and hop on the ‘Way Back’ machine and tell them “1996!”
Singleton is saying that Cano should have been there but Derek has got to let it go.
I think this is rock bottom. It has got to get better from here on.
If this wasn’t so sad, it would be funny.
Someone call Walter Matthau. The Bad New Bears are playing without him.
Mussina sucks…
Ohlendorf swallows.
Russ M up to his usual trolling, I see.
I am sure Damon will say, “we are better than this”, NO they are not
Everyone do a rain dance. Let’s start this one again another day.
it is getting uglier.. nice walk down by 7…by picking you throw so many pitches..
oh my god..
At this rate, the Yankees are going to lose this game 25-1.
I feel like I’m watching a blooper reel…
This team just looks old and sloppy right now…and Cano should have been on the bag, though Jeter should have made the throw regardless. 9 spot now…draft time.
Angel living in Yankee past I see.
Time to forfeit and save the arms? It deserves serious consideration, doesn’t it?
wheres humberto sanchez…BRING EM IN!!!!
This is P-A-T-H-E-T-I-C
YAY GO YANKS
NBA Draft Lottery time baby!
Right now Cashman should be on the phone telling Gardner to get ready kid you’re about to make you ML debut.
It would be nice if Mills Lane was the crew chief. Is there a TKO column in the standings?
I am sure Angel will have words of wisdom about this team. I am sure Angel will play the “it’s early in the season card” for why they stink so bad.
can we have a rain dance and hope it pours down and they call the game?
Keep it up Russ. Add another blog to your “banned from” collection.
The lobotomy comment was the funniest thing I’ve ever read on this board.
is it April 1st….this is ridiculous…Ive never seen such a lifeless group
no steve, wishing cancer on belichick is why you are a troll. and if you’re so proud of your postings, why did you change your name twice will condemning others to brain cancer and extreme pain?
Can Arod hit 9 solo home runs? lol
9-0. WOW!!!! Mercy!! Mercy!!!
guys this was all part of the plan ease arod back by giving the os a huge lead so he can hit a bunch of meaningless hrs his first game back and go on a tear the next couple of weeks… think big picture here guys
MoBoy, I don’t like to call strangers liars, so I’ll just say that you have no clue what you’re talking about. Maybe you can’t tell people on here apart? I never made the prediction that you “know” I made, just as I never said that Farnsworth should replace Joba as the bridge to Mo, another fallacy you’ve repeated over and over.
In your favor, you do consistently spell both “Nick” and “SF” correctly, so it’s not like you can’t do anything right.
We can only be grateful that SJ wasn’t here for Moose’s implosion. He seems to have a certain axe to grind against the crafty righty. And when he is unhappy, it is screenfuls of bile.
I’m sure Arod is loving his triumphant return. His first at-bat and already it’s a 9-run ball game…
This team should be ashamed of themselves. 9 runs, 8 unearned. If this team could play major league average defense at all they’d be over .500. How many games have they lost this year on errors or just god awful plays?
Jeter’s error, inexcusable. Routine grounder, routine throw. Boo hoo Cano wasn’t there to cover. Know where your fielders are and plant and make an accurate throw on a routine ground ball. It’s not Moose’s fault, he wasn’t sharp and made his pitches. You can’t expect a guy with diminished stuff to make 5 more perfect pitches against a decent hitting team when he is in that spot.
Jeter’s GIDP was just a terrible job in his at bat too. I wish they could give position players losses, because it really is on Jeter tonight. No accountability on this team. He’ll get a free pass because he’s Jeter and the captain. He “leads by example” that’s for sure.
Right Angel, your ignored. I haven’t been banned anywhere. I chose not to post on Mark’s blog. There is only 2 people there, you and who cares who else. Now back to the game.
Are you allowed to forfeit? They should… I hate to say it but the yanks have dug themselves into hole not merely in this game but in the standings… I just don’t see them making the playoffs.
HEY! AMERICAN IDOL’S ON! SOMETHING TO WATCH!
Remember a few years ago they lost by 20 something runs and George apologized to the fans for the team’s performance. Then they went on a winning streak. I hope this is the motivation to get them angry enough to get going.
wow matsui got in there
Watch your comments Matt. The blog Police Angel will ban you. How dare you say negative things about this Yankee team. Well, I said they would 1 or 2 this week, looking more like 1.
To all of you who jumped on the bandwagon after 1996 and fell in love with baseball in 1998…this is what it was like to grow up a Yankees fan in the 1980s.
matsui was out
!
And Dancing w/the Stars!!!!
He went the other way!
Could this finally be the bottom of the barrel?
So Pete, I don’t think ANY Yankee fan is enjoying this game.
DONT CUT THAT MUSTACHE!
How many more sucky games do they need for motivation…just find a way to win one. I don’t care about the payroll, etc – but we know they should be able to play better than my nephew’s little league team.
at least Giambi went the other way… by accident but he did it
Time to watch some basketball. Who do you root for? The lesser of two evils, Detroit??? Have a good night all, better luck tomorrow. Go Tribe tonight!!!
How did ARod get on base?
Wait I though all we needed was A-Rod to come back, and all was going to be okay!!!!!!!!
Oh no!!!
haha 9-0 after 2 innings….jeter and damon make awful errors…..and giambi gets a hit in left field……what IS THIS?!
Doreen
Thank you for playing along with me.
The first inning made my husband cranky and I got a dirty look for the hair question. He then said to me “with everything that just happened in that inning, you noticed Damon’s hair? You’re such a girl.”
That’s a compliment, right?
I hope Peter is at least having fun tonight
Indeed its like 1989 all over again. Hopefully in 5 years it will be like 94 again. Its ok we need to rebuild anyways. Keep cashman, grow a team… send giambi away.
What the heck is happening out there?
i feel embarrassed.
RObbie cano don’t you know!
How quickly people forget Mike’s 5 game winning streak.
THAT BALL WAS IN THE DIRT!!!!!!!!!
TK,
I’m actually not mad at Moose tonight. Its not on him.
If I was pitching, I’d be pretty ticked off at Jeter, Damon and Abreu for turning the inning into a quagmire.
I have no axe to grind with Moose. I don’t think he’s that good but, tonight ain’t on him.
As with Sunday night, you gotta make the plays in the field. He threw enough pitches to get 3 outs. His defense let him down.
Where the hell did I wish brain cancer on anybody? I have kept the same name the whole time.
pat -
I think it’s a compliment!
Men just aren’t able to multi-task. And he looks awful. Did I say that already?
How quickly people forget we need to win games not sympathize for Mike Mussina
MIke Mussina didn’t have good stuff tonight, but the defense let him down, still this one is on mike.
Doreen – Alex got on an error by Mora. But Alex looked pretty good running down the line.
more clutch hitting by the yanks I especially like the cano AB, 2 and 2 swingss at a pitch at his ankles or lower.
then again our astute announcers did not think to comment on his incredible plate discipline..
he swung at a ball at his feet…
The only positive Moose-related prediction that I remember being made here was my 20 wins-perfect game-WS ring prediction for Moose this year
But is it hyperbole? Or was I serious? Hmmm….
I wonder if a game like this will finally make things ugly in the clubhouse. Can’t you just see a fight (verbal, not physical) breaking out between Jeter and Mussina? Either that or maybe Girardi is going to completely tee off. Either way, I think it wouldn’t hurt. These sleepwalkers need to awaken already!
Matt, well said. Jeter should take some major heat and he probably won’t. And then people give Jeter the free pass and look for the next closest person to blame, Cano. If people want to blame Cano for something, blame him for his disgraceful at bat but let’s all just admit that Jeter needs to make a good throw there… I mean shouldn’t he be able to make an accurate throw from that short distance? A-Rod has been out for 2 weeks and he’s made two accurate throws from much longer distance… But hey, if A-Rod throws one away tonight let’s just blame Cano.
Rob…Couldn’t agree with you more. Now, we’ll see who the real fans are — the ones who can take a shot to the chin every once in a while like we ’80s guys used to.
A lot of people to blame for tonight.
Just one of those horror type games.
Whatever Russ. Its only out there for anyone to see that you were, lol.
Given your track record, won’t take long for it to happen here. Its creepy how there is no escaping you.
That’s a 20-2 run the last 11 innings.
Girardi needs to call a timeout.
Run a play for crying out loud.
Stop looking at outside shots and take something to the basket already.
Wait. What?
“Men just aren’t able to multi-task.”
Sure we can.
I’m able to watch/listen to the game while my wife babbles on about ‘our marriage is falling apart’ or something like that – no problemo.
Doreen
I’ll withhold judgement until the post game when he is capless but so far not so good.
Lottery time!
someone is going to lose their job
seriously
Sj relax.. Moose gave up a baseclering double on a 0 and 2 count to adam jones…
he walked 2 batters in the 1st inning including roberts and gave up numerous hits on 0-2 counts.
moose wilted like the team..
again if Cano does not learn the strike zone he will never be what he can be, TERRIBLE AB..LAST INNING.
I feel bad for Moose. That first inning sucked defensively.
I say Trade them all. I wonder if we can get young arms that need time to mature that pitch no hitters like boston seemed to have found.
Time to mature is one thing.
Can’t pitch at the major league level is another.
Ugh! Commercial break from ESPN
I lived through the Dave LaPoint and Andy Hawkins days and just don’t have the patience to go back to it. And at 200 million plus, there is no excuse for this team to be underperforming so badly. Does anyone see this team going 70-47 to turn this around? I’m not feeling confident, but I’m still hoping…bring in David Wells to kick some ass and liven up the clubhouse.
only bright side – this has to be the lowest they can go right, I mean it can’t get any worse. Hopefully this will be the kick in the butt they need to wake them up. Nobody wants to be this embarassed.
SJ –
I stand corrected – - – sorry for assuming!
ugh, what a game.
Look, the knicks are in a terrible situation right now because they avoided rebuilding forever. Sometimes its good for a team to lose for a couple of years to comeback even stronger. Plus, if the team isn’t winning this year, it may take some pressure off of some of the youngins to “perform”.
Catching up on the game… Nice to see Mussina become a team player. I mean he has been the only starter pitching well and now he sucks… So there you go.
5 starters, 4 can’t pitch.
8 fielders, 5 are washed up and old
20-24, 20-25 after tonight.
Going to be a looooooooooooong season.
What is the over/under on when Ohlendorf’s arm falls off or he develops “proctoritis”
I beg for change.
Where are all of you that disagreed with me that this team is horrible? I remember all of you laying into me about being negative.. uhm, maybe now you will see that what I was saying was truth and still is.
keep it up sheep.
I just turned on the NBA lottery. That’s how bad this is.
Too bad, though. Now Ollie is gonna be forced by necessity to be the long man again tonight. *sigh*
Stuart, thats flat out not right.
Andy Hawkins – I think you made an excellent point when you said that this is what it was like to root for the Yanks back in the dark days of your namesake. I couldn’t agree more! Those teams were just as brutal as this one is right now.
Good news from Fenway. Masterson has pitched 4 innings and has given up 2 hits already!
Fran,
Thanks. He sure avoided the play at 2nd, didn’t he?
cant imagine why you are giving cano a pass. he did not cover his base. even if it didnt cause any problems, that is inexcusable.
“I feel bad for Moose.”
I feel bad for the fans that had tickets to tonight’s game.
Crossing fingers Knicks get the 2nd pick.
No runs given up that inning. Yay!
Um, YanksAngel… this is the bottom of the barrel? 11-2 to the Mets with our best pitcher on the mound wasn’t a big enough embarrassment for you?
Nick in SF:
You know you are right you never said FRansworth by himself should be the set-up man.You are the people who think anybody can do it,you know since it’s just one inning.Isn’t Fransworth anybody.
I’m a Troll in thinking three prospects can pitch in their first year and it has blown up in our faces. Now Pettitte is struggling in his last 5 starts. To bad we can’t rely on Hughes(DL),Kennedy(Overrated),Joba(BP).
But hey in Nicks fantasy land will just get 60 AA pitchers to help us out.
Mike D’Antoni there for the Knicks
Rule question: When A-Rod got on base on a throwing error, that doesn’t count as a hit for him?
See, 0 runs for the O’s in the 3rd inning. That’s the trend I was talking about. Now we just need Jose “the table setter” Molina to get things started. All is well.
This game makes me want to cry. T_T
“I just turned on the NBA lottery. That’s how bad this is.”
I’m worse – got C-Span on.
They have special on the Gerald Ford Presidential Library.
Here we go in the Draft…lets go Knicks!
This was supposed to be the year of Hughes and IPK “learning on the job.” Instead, it’s Ohlendorf. Personally, I’d cut him some major slack (for getting slapped around now and then).
We should never have cut Billy Crystal. He’s better than half this team.
And he’s MEANT to be a comedian.
I won’t give up on the Yankees until they’re mathematically out of it – and i’ll still watch after that. They have a LOT of money coming off the books next year – it’s time to give some of the minor league guys some major league action and see what we have. Do we have a first baseman in the minors or do we have to throw a boat load of money at someone?? Same for the corner outfield – Lets see if Gardner is an answer for the future, or do we need to make a trade/get a free agent.
We have payroll flexibility for the first time in a very long time and we need to spend it wisely… for once.
Stuart,
I’m more than relaxed. Everytime they stink it up like this, it makes it easier for them to make the sweeping changes needed.
Much tougher to do when they are convinced they are in a race.
I’ve wanted Gardner in left for 2 weeks. Hopefully, its coming sooner than later. That’s a start.
Add to it the promotions going on down below and I’m excited about the future. Not too excited about the present.
Too many parts that don’t fit for my tastes.
Oh, and we need some GAMERS!! say what you want about the team trying or not…. I want guys like (ugh) Dustin Pedroia who go out and give 200% every day and refuse to be beaten
Knicks got the 6th pick.
“I won’t give up on the Yankees until they’re mathematically out of it”
At this rate – that will be next week.
NBA Draft:
14. Golden State
13. Portland
12. Sacramento
11. Indiana
10. New Jersey
9. Charlote
8. Milwaukee
7. L.A. Clippers
6. Knicks
5. Memphis
4. Seattle
Just got home from work, threw on gameday and almost threw up.
A-Rod back. Jeter out? It would be our luck.
Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is Jeter ok?
Anyone watching the NBA lottery should know that the T’wolves will get the #1 pick as a reward for handing Boston Kevin Garnett.
You have got to be kidding me.
As if his day couldn’t get any worse
More bad news for tonight…oh well. This years NBA draft is week, you could see D’Antoni was thrilled. At least Isiah didn’t trade away this one.
Say hello to the AG filling in at shortstop!
It just goes from bad to worse. Looks like Derek really got hurt. It sounded bad.
AAAARGGHHHHHHHHHH. Cabrera has no f’ing control. You heard that.
Someone better freakin throw at an Oriole and HIT them in the HEAD..
all you guys complaining about jeter just got your wish….looks like he’s headed to the DL
Not good for the Knicks. Forget Rose and Beasley this rules out even Mayo and Bayless.
I’m beginning to think that the Ortiz jersey did curse us. What else could explain this season?
If he’s hurt this seasons over.
Super.
Knicks get the 6th pick.
Throw the remote.
Pick up the batteries.
Put them back in.
Turn back to this glorious game and Jeter is knocked out of the game.
Oh what a night
“Say hello to the AG filling in at shortstop!”
For a good while.
One of these days, he’ll learn to stop putting his hands there. The pitch was inside, but he could have easily avoided it if he wasn’t diving in.
What a joke this is.
Top 3 picks:
3. Minnesota
2. Miami Heat
1. Chicago Bull!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m 90% certain that’s a broken bone for Jeter. That was no glancing blow, that was solid, flush contact with his hand. He could be out for a while. Ironic that this happens right when A-Rod gets back.
**Bulls**
not good it hit him so hard it sounded like it was the bat being hit
Knicks need to get Brook Lopez!!
Yankees could use him too
Remain calm. All is well. All is well!!
http://tinyurl.com/6yvkr3
Did you blowhards really think this team would win over 85 games this year???
They want out and made ZERO improvements.
They had Mussina pencil’d in for the #3 slot. This is a yr after he got demoted and had an ERA of about 8.
They dont get a 1b and expect Giambi who hasnt played 1b since the 90′s to play everyday.
Not tonight – not this year. Yes, it’s May 20th but there’s no hints of a turnabout, not in the slightest.
A transitional year in the making.
Good things in sight beginning with the ball & chain contracts and dealing of players that can do next year absolutely no possible good.
A 50% roster turnover by the time the new Stadium opens is very much a reality. The inevitable has finally come to roost after 8 years of bandaid fixes.
wow. i just got back to my desk at work, turned on gameday and saw that mussina got rocked and jeter is hurt.
i am not pleased.
please tell me it’s raining hard enough for the game to be called.
what happened to jeter? how did it look?
“What Happened?

What a joke this is.”
Your a moron….watch the replay. That would have hit anybody on the hands.
Oh, man, Jetes!
Remember when Armando Benitez (pitching for the Orioles at the time) dinged Tino and there was a big ruckus on the field (at Yankee Stadium)? When was that?
can we rewind the season to some time in March?
god I hate ping pong now. Knicks will suck again!
That is a 6 week injury. That is a broken hand.
LOL. I needed a laugh in this game.
Thanks to those diagnosing DL stints and broken bones from your armchairs for providing it.
Here’s a novel thought. How about wait and see?
Funny thing is. If DJ id out for awhile and Yanks keep stinking up the joint – they’ll just say:
“Well – what do expect or team Captain has been out of our line-up and we miss him and his leadership – blah – blah – blah…”
How about they just don’t pitch to Kevin Millar.. ever?
Millar was mired in a slump before tonight.
I hope the jump the time table in getting Joba his 150 innings this year.
Or do the fools really want him in the 8th inning of 8 run games?
I blame the mentioning of the line (or variation of), “It can’t possibly get worse”)
…of course, since when did movie law cross over into the world to mix with Murphy’s?
can they just forfeit the rest of the game?
“wow. i just got back to my desk at work, turned on gameday and saw that mussina got rocked and jeter is hurt.
i am not pleased.
please tell me it’s raining hard enough for the game to be called.
what happened to jeter? how did it look?”
Jeter made an error, 6 unearned runs in the first inning
Jeter is also out for a decent amount of time – that wrist/hand is broken… it has to be
Angel,
Come on, they all stayed in a Holiday Inn last night. That makes them doctors. At least on the internet.
Nice 21 runs in the past 2 games. This team couldn’t beat Scranton.
What is it about Kevin Millar and the Yankees…good lord!
Just a nightmare year so far. Whenever you think it can’t get worse, it somehow does. Oh well, GO YANKEES!!!
Some years work this way… injuries and teams fail. Look at toronto every year. I think this group of players will never be successful. I think we should get rid of abreu, giambi, and damon, and let our youngins grow, lower our payroll. We should temper our expectations for next year, in hopes that in 2 or 3 years things will be better. This team just ain’t going to make a run for it. Last year was an exception to the rule. The law of averages is going to work against this team. The only sad part about that is: Arod and Jeter aren’t getting any younger… so: you have to make a play for it every year. This just stinks of winfield, and Ken Phelps…. \
BTW Winfield was my hero as a young boy.
On the brighter side of things, I just found my dvd of Hiding Out….
So yeah…
I’m just gonna pop that in now.
Night.
This is one of the worst days of this year.
Derek Jeter is going to go on the DL as soon as A-Rod gets back.
It is time to bring up Brett Gardner and stop messing around. We need to trade some prospects for a first baseman. I’ll give up Tabata and Robertson and Horne. Whoever. Kennedy.
But he’s got to be young and re-signable.
“can they just forfeit the rest of the game?”
I thought they’ve been doing that?
I think one of the hardest decisions that Girardi will have to make is moving Jeter out of SS…he is only going to decrease in range every year. And Posada “I am not a firstbaseman” returning this year should be interesting, that shoulder injury will limit him greatly. Transition time does look imminent.
Nobody wants to lose, but hey, how does everyone think the Yankees built a dynasty in the mid-90s? Because they didn’t trade Bernie Williams for Paul Assenmacher in 1993 when George wanted a lefty specialist. Because they didn’t trade Andy Pettitte and Jorge Posada and Mariano Rivera when they could have to bring veteran people in. These Yankees need a breath of fresh air, and Hughes, Kennedy and Joba are going to give that to them when they get a little more seasoning. There’s no question about it. I can go on and on and on and on and on and on with a list of pitchers who were terrible when they first came up to the big leagues. The guy who pitched against the Mets today was one of them. Look at Cliff Lee and Carmona and even Cabrera tonight for Baltimore. All of them struggled. All the Yankees need right now is a little patience. My guess is, the good fans will give it to them. The bandwagon jumpers and the front-runners won’t.
This season was over before it began. Latroy Hawkins was their big addition. Repeat that again. For a team that had no 1b, no bench, only 2 starting pitchers.
The difference between number of innings pitched by Lester and Mussina –8 1/3 innings. That’s disgusting performance by Mussina.
“On the brighter side of things, I just found my dvd of Hiding Out….”
A Jon Cryer classic!
Love the use of Roy Orbison’s ‘Crying’ in it
They should play it at Yankee Stadium after game…
“LOL. I needed a laugh in this game.
Thanks to those diagnosing DL stints and broken bones from your armchairs for providing it.
Here’s a novel thought. How about wait and see?”
Yeah definitely wait and see… but I still don’t see any way that it’s not broken
A broken hand for Giambi (instead of Jeter) would have been fine…
DJ,
I suppose the yankees should trade for stephon Marbury.
Time for A Rod to put this team on his back, baby.
JMAC…I think Jeter’s range has been better this year. you want to move him off SS because he made an error tonight?
I propose a new organization called “Never again option Chris Britton to AAA Scranton Wilkes/Barre.”
can we score a run? hello?
Here comes a 8,000 word post from SJ44 diagnosing all the ills with the team. Here it comes….
FYI — Now Kevin Millar hitting 0.481 against Yanks, careerwise
Hank will go crazy .
I can just see his head errupting right now.
the yankees suck right now.
Jeter may or not be injured but….with the score 9-0 already, they would have taken him out if he had a hang nail for precautionary reasons.
In the last 14 innings the Sox 2 starting pitchers, both under 25, have given up 3 hits combined. Why can’t we get pitchers like that????
“A broken hand for Giambi (instead of Jeter) would have been fine…”
Giambi reminds me of that old SNL skit with John Belushi – “the House Guest that Wouldn’t Leave”…
I agree – how about they score just one run and take it from there.
I wish we had Kevin Millar playing for us at 1B right about now! (And, yes, I know he’s not really that good…)
Did jeter break his hand?
ARod to SS anybody?
You don’t make any deal to fix this team. You make deals to improve the team for the future.
Trading young players now for quick fixes would be the dumbest thing they could do and they aren’t going to do it.
If they make any trades it will be for guys they are counting on for the future.
This team? The worse they are, the easier it is to blow it up. Perhaps, that’s what they need to do this year. This may be the year to just blow it up and start over rather than patchworking their way through another season.
So many underperformers and its a nightly thing. That’s tough to fix in season.
S.A.- Someone call the police, the Yankees offense is missing
May 20th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
can we score a run? hello?
——————————
apparently not.
“Did jeter break his hand?”
Break? More like crushed…
Internet quacks, indeed. You’d think they were trying to start a panic or something. Wrong game to try that, I can’t get much worse, lol.
We should probably be honored they took time off from their busy schedules to share their armchair medical expertise, I suppose.
It is real easy to say build from within. But those players have to be GOOD!!!
Is Melky Bernie? Is Gonzalez Jeter? Is Kennedy Pettitte? Is Cano Posada?
Give me a break. You build with good players. Either brought in or traded for or drafted. You have to do all three because you cant just do one or two of those.
What free agents have we signed the past 4 years???
Who have we traded for??
Please name me the 3 position players we have made since 2001.
What is with the first pitch swinging?
Jeter wears a metal piece in his glove.
let’s wait before we put him on the DL.
SJ I disagree with you. This team had 960 runs scored last yr. they did nothing to hurt the offense this last season..yes 7 of the 9 hitters are older but not ancient and 2 of the hitters are young.. they improved the pen internally and by having j0ba full time so to say anyone expected this or to expect it to last is ludicrous….
things cannot get worse then they are right now…
this reminds me of the game a few yrs ago when the yanks were no hit by like 4 or 5 astros pitchers they were playing similarly bad..I have not given up on this team not by a long shot…
Very funny, Eddie.
I was thinking the same thing.. Five thousand words that say everything but “they suck”.
Fire Kevin Long!
” Don’t just do something – - STAND THERE ” !!!!!
pretty sad when giambi is playing the best defense on the field. The yanks look old and sloppy.
the better question is – who ISN’T an underperformer?
bphill May 20th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Hank will go crazy .
I can just see his head errupting right now.
Who cares? the guy is completely full of it. If he had any power we’d be seeing Johan Santana every 5th day.
this ump sucks that was not a strike to steroid buy.. he squeezed moose in the first now he does that crap..
It is astounding that this team can’t score any runs.
great, this sux the knicks go 6th pick. You don’t get any love in the NBA!!!
No fast eddie, its not happening.
You can go back to using your other name now. Always nice to grow a pair if you are going to take shots. Try it sometime.
not a good week for this sports fan…
1. mets beat up on yanks
2. jeter’s hand
3. tonight’s 10-0 laugher
4. the bulls are u kidding me the team that stole our last two lottery picks for that bum eddy curry have the number1 pick
5. celtics advance
6. Mo Lester’s No No (good for him overcoming his cancer and all but going to school in Boston is already bad enough)
7. not official but all signs point to strahan retiring
Mr. Instant Out … Albatross … Giambi
Hopefully, they will give us an update on Jeter’s hand soon.
Don’t worry. I’m sure SJ44 is typing that 10,000 word essay on the diagnosis of what ails the 2008 Yankees. He’s a regular Dr House.
Jeter is consistently ranked as one of the worst SS, as far as range goes. He will make the play hit to him, and does make some outstanding plays, but going up the middle he is terrible.
This year is a bit better, but he came in built like a string bean and his power numbers have reflected that. It is just natural to get slower with age (in the now true non-steroid age) and his range will just get worse. In the next couple of years Girardi will have a hard decision to make.
virgin islands troll .masterson is very avg in AA so stop the sux hype.. he has a high high 3 ERA and is 1 and 3 with high WHIP in AA so do not tell me he is the next Beckett..
Take a hammer and smash your hand with it. Then ask yourself do you really need to be a doctor to guess that Derek Jeter’s hand is broken.
Remember those ad slogans…”Yankee Pride,” “Power, Pride, Pinstripes”…Whatever happened to truth in advertising?!
forgot to mention the sox are about to win their 5th straight…
i think ill go put on my nfl films giants superbowl dvd at least i have that.
THE GMENNNNNNNNNNNN
sorry Pete just trying to cheer myself up
So, uh, why does SJ have a stalker?
SJ will have that manifesto up soon. The only guy who can write paragraphs bashing Giambi when 2 words are suffice.
hughman I uess we have another Dr. on the site.. again brain surgeon he wears a metal insert in his batting glove..
why can’t you wait to find out the status or you just like to be a pathetic whiner???
Doreen
The hair from the side of Damon’s head found it’s way to Giambi’s upper lip.
The yankees are just a bad team. Individually, they are good, as a team nope. I hate how the bulls got the first pick in the draft… this makes me so angry. The NBA lottery is a farce.
so who do the Knicks draft at 6?? I’m hoping for Brook Lopez
ah i missed jeters HBP….what happened?
Face it. Boston is the better franchise right now. They got the better young pitching. Ellsbury is better than Melky. Pedroia is better than Cano. DOn’t even get me started with Dice-K vs Igawa.
Yankees are pathetic
Maybe you should change your name to Mr. Beat a Dead Horse
And this guys Masterson is not even in AAA. He is actually in AA. The Twins GM doesn’t look like such a genius now for taking that MEts offer over the Sox offer of Lester-Masterson-Lowrie-Crisp.
Jeter broke his hand.
Hey, as long as Damon’s wife digs the hair, I’m sure he could care less what anyone else thinks!
Oh, pat, I missed that! I’ll have to watch for it.
Good news, Benjie Molina just had an RBI double for the Giants. I think that means that Jose must do the same thing if either Robbie or Melky can get on base for him.
Blargh,
And he uses multiple names too! Its hysterical.
Like its my fault the team isn’t playing well.
Gotta love the internet! lol
As I’ve told these these twerps before, you don’t like what I write, don’t read it.
No matter how many names they use, or how many times they stalk, its not going to change a single thing I write on this blog.
Unfortunately, they are too dumb to understand that.
Why can’t this team score a stinking run?
We don’t know about Jeter yet, but it sounded bad and he looked really ticked off as he went into the clubhouse. If it does turn out that he broke a bone then the debate of moving Alex to short will begin.
I think I might be sick.
omg Robbie..
The knicks can draft stephon marbury, that is unless hank yields to the panicked fans and signs him to replace the “big three.”
You don’t like it “sunny” don’t read it. Free country. I’ll be eagerly anticipating SJ44 diagnosis.
OK, cool. We’ll see if the hand is broken or not. Only guessing. Didn’t know about the metal insert. But I am not whining. A-Rod is back and Posada soon, then Hughes, mid-season starter acquisition (I’ll take Aaron Small, or at least Chacon, please), etc.
But if that was just bone, and a 90+ fastball, well..
“I’m beginning to think that the Ortiz jersey did curse us. What else could explain this season?”
If you want to go there then I think it could be cosmic payback for the way the Yankees are walking away from their most loyal fans. I know people who have been generational season tickets holders for decades who are being priced out. Not for nothing, but the Yanks’ latest nightmare started around the same time they started mailing out the relocation packages informing fans of the new 500% jump in price that many of them can no longer afford.
At this rate it’s almost better if we could just forfeit this game. It would take our offense 5 games to score 10 runs, meanwhile we’re going to burn the bullpen for the next 3 games.
I know I’m probably sounding like I’m losing my mind. But I guess watching a game like this would do that to you.
I never saw what happened to Jeter.
I would not move A-Rod to short.
Alberto Gonzalez looked better at short than he did at 3rd base.

Why can’t this team score a stinking run?
——————–
see your title… heh
“Why can’t this team score a stinking run?”
Because the extraordinary amount of effort it took them to score two in their last game against the Mets has utterly exhausted them (apparently)!
Beat a Dead Horse? You mean like SJ44 and his anti Yank stuff every single game??? No way!
Fast Eddie
May 20th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
You don’t like it “sunny†don’t read it. Free country. I’ll be eagerly anticipating SJ44 diagnosis.

kinda hard when you post it every 5 minutes dude…
Hughman, there was a hammer on the field?
I must have missed it.
It is amazingly hard to watch this.
Go Pistons.
I thought Sunday night was pathetic. But this..wow.
i mean really – two one-pitch outs that inning? at leasst pretend that you are trying, would you? The poor people there paid to watch this garbage
Floyd…the trick is to start rebuilding. Are you telling me that, in your infinite scouting wisdom, you can tell after 19 Phil Hughes starts and nine Ian Kennedy starts that neither of them have a chance to be good major leaguers? Both are first round picks. Both DOMINATED the minor leagues. Both are in their early 20s. Yet, neither of them have shown so far that they are worth patience. Is that what you’re saying?
Nobody’s saying Melky is going to be the next Bernie. But Melky hit .273-8-73 last season, when he was 22. Know what Bernie did when he was 22? .238-3-34.
By the way, you have to get off Cano. He’s a .304 career hitter. I think we can reasonably assume that he’ll be a pretty darn good major leaguer. He’s just off to a horrible start — like he got off to last season, when he wound up hitting .306 with 97 RBIs.
“This team? The worse they are, the easier it is to blow it up. Perhaps, that’s what they need to do this year. This may be the year to just blow it up and start over rather than patchworking their way through another season.”
The only question left is whether the rest of the division is so balanced that even a team this feckless has an obligation to stay in the race instead of experimenting by calling up the kids. That’s a really tough call from where I sit.
Either way this will be a game fans talk about for years: it’s either the start of the Yankee Ice Age many have predicted since 2000, or the opening of the Golden Joe Girardi Era. It’s either the beginning of the Battle of Baltimore (The successful 1812 defense of Fort McHenry and the impetus for the Star Spangled Banner) or the Baltimore Massacre.
because they suck. They’ve been on a five year slide of being worse and worse, and getting shallower and shallower into the playoffs. The natural progression of “what’s next” has arrived.
Good Bye Cashman. It’s been real, but that Stick Michael coat tail ride you’ve been on for seven years is now coming to a stop at the station.
fran,
jeter was ticked off on his way to the clubhouse because he was still mad at cano not because of his hand lol
This is the 1990 Yankees. Where’s Mel Hall?

LOL
Albert Gonzalez can’t hit…smooth with he glove though. If Jeter is out, there goes the only one who is hitting.
No offense Vince, but I think there are a lot of disgruntled posters lately… the way this team is playing (or not playing) kinda hard to avoid the negative poster.
ace it. Boston is the better franchise right now. They got the better young pitching. Ellsbury is better than Melky. Pedroia is better than Cano. DOn’t even get me started with Dice-K vs Igawa
Forgot better GM, better organizational structure, better scouting, better player development.
In effect the Yankees have become a blend of all that Yankee fans laughed at about other teams.
“Pedroia is better than Cano.”
Yes! 45 games are more meaningful than the 3 prior years.
Some of you posters are spoiled babies.
I’d put money on a Boxer’s Fracture for Jeter. Weeks on the DL.
Masterson another quality start. Remember those?
LaTroy looks good.
Well it’s been a heck of a long time sinced we were able to say that the best part of the team was the bullpen!
I bet even the Orioles would be happy to call the game early at this point. Then again, it’s a great opportunity to pad their individual stats, so maybe they would rather let this whole travesty continue to unfold after all.
Yes, it’s the Steinbrenner’s money but as soon as the point has been reached when the hierarchy decides that playoff chances are dim at best, DFA Giambi to make a statement to Yankee fans that contracts like his will not happen again.
That by itself it would speak volumes.
I don’t like SJ44 either but I just ignore him.
sick play by the ball boy sign him up… maybe he can hit too
Stuart, I am not a troll. His AA numbers aren’t great but in 2 starts for the Red Sox this year he has pitched 13 innings and given up 1 run. I think those trump the AA numbers.
There is that Hawkins. Our only addition in 2008 mopping up blowouts and being a long reliever. Great job Cashman!
whoa look at joba flying outta the pen
Hey – this might be the brawl we need!
GO YANKEES!!!
GO LATROY!!!
Just got home… what happened to Jeter???
Angel, ya got me. That was funny. But I still think his hand is broken.
OK, trade possibilities. The d’backs have Mark reynolds, with Chad Tracy about to come back from dl. Do the Yankees have anything to trade? Alan Horne or some pitcher prospect?
GET ‘EM KYLE!!!!!!
HAWKINS IS AN IDIOT… VERY VERY VERY VERY UNCALLED FOR
Finally, someone gets Millar out
Finally some freakin fire by the Group of Nancy’s.
Truth –
What about all of last year? Look at the last year and a quarter of baseball, buddy. He’s better, man. Sooner or later we’re going to have to come to the realization of what he is – a quasi exciting player with good power potential and the worst plate command in the game.
Joe T – what happened? I am watching on gameday
Yeah, LaTroy seemed to get into Girardi’s doghouse pretty quickly, didn’t he?
I realize the internet is a cesspool for the negative and the angry but this board during losses should be closed down due to craziness, over reactions and meanness.
I hope DJ is okay – that sounded just awful. The last thing he needs is a broken hand, which must be painful. Our Captain obviously had a rough night, but he remains an awesome player and it’s great to be able to watch his first-ballot Hall of Fame career all the way through.
Peter: You owe your parents big time lol. Not just for bringing you up so well, but for saving you from having to watch this (so far) dreary mess.
SJ44′s take on things makes a lot of sense. I have no idea what’s going to happen this season, but there something exciting going with the organization for the first time in a long time. Even though Hughes and Kennedy have had a rough time, I’m still glad the team is going in that direction. We would not now be enjoying CMW, Joba, Robby, or even Melky without there first having been a glaring deficiency on the major league team that needed to be addressed promptly. There are no guarantees, of course, but even missing the postseason, painful though it will be, will be worth it if the Yankees turn it around the way Boston did after 2006. I hope the Steinbrenners, the team and CashMoney (who IMHO is worth his weight in 24 kt gold) are willing to ride out any and all storms to follow what sounds like an intelligent and farsighted plan.
fiiiiiiiiiiiight
I’m not a negative person at all. But, given how they’ve played, I certainly don’t expect this comments section to be all roses and sunshine. Its incredibly frustrating being a yankee fan at the moment. When reasonably expressed, I have no objection to negative sentiment – it often expresses how I feel accurately.
what happened with hawkins??
I’m all for throwing at Scott, but not at his head.
way to do it the right way Hawkins… throw at the kids head in a 10-0 game… he should be ashamed and suspended for a VERY long time
Oops
oooo… edwar – this should be interesting.
There is no such thing as rebuilding in baseball.
Ask the Pirates and Royals how that “rebuilding” is going. You reload. Especially with 200 mill to play with and another 100 for minor leaguers, facilities, etc
“Where’s Mel Hall?”
Ask Suszyn Waldman…
Thank god Jeter is fine.
SOME GOOD NEWS FINALLY
Hawkins was right to “send a message” – but not to the guys head.
Derek x-rays negative YEAH
Yay – Jete’s okay.
wait for the 2nd X-Ray on Jeter – first one negative, wait for the swelling to go down and lets hope it’s not broken
No break for Jeter, just a contusion of the left hand.
Jeter’s X-Rays are negative. No broken hand.
The baseball gods are kind to us!!!!
Bring in Farnsworth! He knows how to hit someone.
You people have short memories. This team was worse last year and they turned it around. Stop taking the teams temperature on a daily basis. Baseball is a marathon. Not a sprint. They were also in worse shape for the WC last yr because the AL had better teams.
Can someone explain what just happened? All I can do is follow it on gameday.
how sad this team is, when the best news we’ve had in a week is that Jeter’s hand is ok. sigh…
darn, I wish there had been a fight. Sometimes thats all you need to turn things around.
The Yankees need something to get them riled up. This could be it.
I’ve broken bones. You don’t have to wait for the swelling to go down to see if there’s a break. You wait for the swelling to go down to cast a bad break.
doctors I thought his hand was broken all you experts.. again the guy has a metal plate in his glove for a reason…
all you experts on medical issues, baseball talent evaluation etc..
giving up on a season after 26 games… JOKE>>>>>
houston no hit the yanks at the stadium they looked brutal, remember …..
Jeter is out for the season.
Luthien, Hawkins threw at Luke Scott twice, both times very close to his head. The benches cleared, but no punches were thrown. Hawkins and Girardi got the boot.
What happened? Was there a fight?
Also the Yanks are waiting on Cano, Giambi, Damon, Abreu who have been out for the season so far. Maybe they’ll play baseball before long.
Just when I thought things could’t get any worse…..man this team sux.
Good news about Jeter!
Signs of life from the team
Let’s get it on

Hate to be a bubble burster (is that a word?) but that didn’t work out too well after the Rays smackin down our AAA catcher incident. But at this point, I’ll take anything.
Can someone kill milar for me??? I hate him.
Can someone kill milar for me??? I hate him.
luthien… hawkins threw inside belt high to luke scott went t o the back stop very next pitch up and in at his head went to the back stop luke scott took offense benches and bullpens cleared latroy was thrown out
My DirecTV is out, did Joba look better coming out of the bullpen in that fight that he would have looked coming out of the rotation?
Thanks Laura. Any particular reason Hawkins was throwing at him?
Actually the first time was closer to his hip and back. The second time was close to his head.
Thanks, Laura.
“You people have short memories. This team was worse last year and they turned it around. Stop taking the teams temperature on a daily basis. Baseball is a marathon. Not a sprint. They were also in worse shape for the WC last yr because the AL had better teams.”
I don’t think so. We at least had Arod and his hr hitting to cheer about. This year, there’s nothing.
I’m sure Jeter’s hand still won’t be feeling too good for a while…
I wouldn’t be surprised if his hitting suffers because of it over the next few series.
From the good news department, the Super Bowl Champions are nearly 2 months away from reporting to Camp Albany.
Luthien – Hawkins is an idiot basically… he threw at the hip area of Luke Scott and missed, next pitch at his head and he got tossed. Scott said some things that I won’t type out (gist being if you’re going to hit me don’t hit me in the head), benches cleared – like a middle school dance – no touching
Luthien it probably was payback for Jeter getting hit.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Joba run so fast before LOL. That put a smile on my face in the middle of this sad sad game.
Good news everyone. Our ace Rasner goes tomorrow to stop the bleeding. Followed by the guy with the games highest Era and our best prospect who we wouldnt give up for the games best lefty. Great going Cashman.
game will end up 15-1 Orioles
Luthein, as payback for them hitting Jeter.
Was that X-Ray taken at the local Holiday Inn Express?
Seriously, actually that is a question I had. Do they have an X-Ray machine at Yankee Stadium? Or do they just go to the local hospital to get it?
MERCY RULE!
…let’s just be happy A-Rod’s back.
I guess that Girardi will be suspended for tomorrow night. Doesn’t the manager get an automatic one game suspension?
atleast we found out Joba can pinch run in the future
Thanx guys. Living in Iowa sucks.
Yes, I stand corrected. The first pitch Hawkins threw to Scott was lower.
Good night in Reading for Trenton Thunder pitchers thus far.
Alfredo Aceves made his AA debut. Great line: 7 innings, 0 runs, 5 hits, 1 BB, 7 K’s.
Mark Melancon pitched the 8th and retired the side in order with 2 K’s.
0-0 after 8.
“Hate to be a bubble burster (is that a word?) but that didn’t work out too well after the Rays smackin down our AAA catcher incident. But at this point, I’ll take anything.”
Great to see some people encouraging others and bonding. Some of these fellas need a hug.

————–
15-1?? You’re being awfully generous aren’t ya? If the Yankees score 1 run, it’d be a miracle.
Angel – though I don’t know for sure I would think that a place like Yankee Stadium would surely have portable x-ray facilities.
go ahead Daniel I dare you to hit Damon
I TRIPLE DOG DARE YOU !
game will end up 15-1 Orioles
Way to go out on a limb there, buddy! I’m taking you to Vegas next week.
But all the internet doctors said it was broken? I’m confused
I think they have an X-Ray machine in the stadium.. can you imagine if you were sitting in the hospital waiting room and Jeter walked in, wearing his uniform? That would be crazy
“Seriously, actually that is a question I had. Do they have an X-Ray machine at Yankee Stadium? Or do they just go to the local hospital to get it”
Believe it or not, I actually think they do have an X-Ray machine at the stadium. There’s no way they got Jeter to the hospital that quick….I think.
Too bad Peter isn’t monitoring this thread or he could tell us.
shelley was out there policing the area
Real tough throwing at guys down 10 runs.
sunny615 thanks for that…after a long day of work and a predictable performance by the NY Nancy’s… that made laugh.
u ever think that more than one guy may think u are full of poop sj44?? I like how u do blame me for all sj. U are my stalker
Millar stays with Damon when BAL plays the Yankees. I’d kick him out.
“But all the internet doctors said it was broken? I’m confused”
Virgin Islands –
That’s why you need to do what I do. Absorb the extremely obvious and feel free to ignore the rest!
At this rate we should trade for Cabrera, if only to keep from having to face him again. We can’t hit him at all…
Pepper Brooks – it is absolutely my pleasure. It gets easier to have some fun when the game gets pretty inevitable and you just let it go. I’m just trying to have fun any way I can.
Oh mike come on, you can do better than that.
Even if your mommy has to write the stuff you gotta do better than that son.
It ain’t makin’ a dent with me.
I wonder how this game would be if Jeter would have made one simple throw to 1B
You know, these things don’t usually bother me, but Damon and Millar sharing a moment there really got me the wrong way. I understand that they are friends, but Damon’s team is being blown out and not playing very well at all in the last week (to be kind), so it just doesn’t seem appropriate right now.
I’m pretty sure they have an X-Ray machine at the stadium
if A-Rod gets hit here they should kill somebody (starting with Hawkins)
looooook!!!!!!!!! a baserunner!!!!!!!!!
Portable X-Ray is a simple thing to own. Think about this. You are the NY Yanks. Do you pay an X-Ray tech to be available at home games and the team doctor to be around to help in case you need him?
AROD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So many stories to be written tonight and Pete is on Broadway.
Thanks, Trisha and Laura. I wondered by the speed I’ve seen them get X-Rays done. I’ve been to New York a few times, but i dont know what the closest hospital to the Bronx is and how long it would take to get there.
Yay ARod!
OK, Arod, how about a “Welcome Back” RBI
atleast someone gives a damn
see its all part of the plan
******** BREAKING A-ROD NEWS ********
Yankees double their weekly run output!!
Welcome back ARod. He will make a difference.
Hope is back in the bronx!!!!!
so if mike mussina had thrown a no hitter we would have won tonight.
yeah! a run! wE’RE GOOD AGAIN!!!!!!

I wonder how this game would be if Jeter would have made one simple throw to 1B
————-
9 – 0?
yay!
only 9 more runs now!
at least Arod gave us something to cheer about. He hasn’t lost his swing!!
this offense would have been shut out had it not been for a rod
What are the bottom three teams in scoring in the AL so far? Does anyone know? I’d be shocked if the Yanks aren’t on the list.
Damn, Pete was almost right.
Arod hit a homer, but in the 6th but obviously doesn’t help… No wait someone said Arod would make this line up better.
4 hits off Cabrera who is a #4 starter at best, 1 Run against the Orioles.. Definite improvement.
It’s real easy to kick a team when they are down. Real fans have a little faith. Like last yr. Like 2006. Like 2005. Show a little patience and let some people get healthy before you start the rebuilding job.
5 more of those, please…
call it a meaningless run or whatever.I think we all needed that hr!
Hey! A typical A-Rod homer!
Down 10. If we were down 2, that would be a pop up.
we had the same record at this time last year. HA
sunny615 – Your miracle just happened! (And the Yanks just met their obligatory 2-run quota for the game.) Hooray!!!
If Cabrera is the O’s #4 starter than we are headed for last place come September.
This is actually turning out to be a great game…full of drama: rock bottom, an almost broken hand, an almost brawl, flying Joba, and now Arod the hero. If we have a dramatic come from behind this will be a future Yankees Classic for sure.
I don’t care how good Jersey Boys is. Pete is missing a whole week of writing materials in just one night.
This is the type of night when road rage on the Major Deegan is understood.
Too many people that want to get home or a bar to forget what they just witnessed.
we just need a bloop, infield hit, walk and a blast
and then a walk, an error, a walk and a blast and it’s tied
snooogans!
“It’s real easy to kick a team when they are down. Real fans have a little faith. Like last yr. Like 2006. Like 2005. Show a little patience and let some people get healthy before you start the rebuilding job.”
I can get down with that, the Rick! You rock!
Thanks Alex!
“It’s real easy to kick a team when they are down. Real fans have a little faith. Like last yr. Like 2006. Like 2005. Show a little patience and let some people get healthy before you start the rebuilding job.”
They can’t keep starting like this. One of these years you’re not going to come back.
Angel get over the freaking X-Rays already.
Rob
May 20th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
we had the same record at this time last year. HA
And that was with everyone healthy AND Posada and ARod having career years.
The result for this year as everyone gets back to normal, not the same.
Last year, A-Rod hit 14 dingers in one month. I think he can do it again.
These are the Orioles
8 runs isn’t impossible.
It’s unlikely
But doable.
Do you think Britton got back on a plane headed to the Bronx when Jeter got hit. He should learn to parachute so they could just circle the Stadium so he could drop in to start an inning.
Moose was ok until that error by Jeter prolonged the inning, he went from a 20 pitch innning to 34 to 41 …you can’t watch that first inning and say it’s all because of Moose
We need more people here with your attitude Trisha. The doomsdayers have taken over and it is a terrible vibe.
And if we don’t come back this year, these are still the Yankees and it is the team we profess to love and root for.
P.S. They will come back. But I’ll root hard for them no matter what.
Daniel Cabrera flung one pitch up around Damon’s eyes, then up 9-0, he busted one off Jeter’s wrist. Those shots can easily send a guy to the DL for months.
Good for Hawkins for headhunting on Scott, it’s about time. Scott didn’t like it? Tough crap. Since when is a pitcher obligated to retaliate with a BP fastball to a batter’s hip or thigh? Jeter was almost put out of action, and Luke Scott expects a tap on the thigh, and all is even? I don’t think so.
I’m glad Hawkins buzzed his head. It sure as hell got everyone’s attention, didn’t it?
Now maybe the next pitcher who wants to bust Jeter inside will be a little more careful about it.

sunny615 – Your miracle just happened! (And the Yanks just met their obligatory 2-run quota for the game.) Hooray!!!
————-
SOOOOOOOOO-weet! I’ll take it.
Ironic that in 2005 that would be lampooned as meaningless, but now, it’s a miracle. But like I said, I’ll take it every day of the week and twice on sunday. Tonight tho, I’d like it 11 more times please.
And how many runs has jeter saved for Moose? How many runs has he scored for him? You pick up your teammate. That simple.
With Arod back hittin’ homers, Jeter’s hand not broken, and Joba keepin’ it real in the 8th inning, all the ingredients are there. Just stir.
Melky! Nice catch.
Why do you have to cut and paste everyone elses thoughts sunny615? We can read.
where is scooter the squirel? where?
we need something to spark a fire.
Not to use repetition but have the Yankees actually had a come from behind win this year ?
Moose was ok until that error by Jeter prolonged the inning, he went from a 20 pitch innning to 34 to 41 …you can’t watch that first inning and say it’s all because of Moose
You are right but Moose is notorious for turning into a baby when things don’t go his way. So in some respect, it is as much as his fault as Jeter’s with the error.
Just as your defense needs to make “the plays” the pitcher can’t suck his thumb because he feels he did his job and his defense did not.
On a happy note…The Royals have a runner on second with no outs in the top of the 8th at Fenway…threatening to tie it at 2!
This game is a blatant example of why Joba is absolutely wasted in relief.
Candy Store Owner -
Uh, if you don’t have good stuff on any given night it doesn’t matter WHO needs picking up. Note: Yankees over the last several weeks!
Boy Pete goes to see Jersey boys and all heck breaks loose at the stadium.
listen when I hear Kenny Singleton again brown nose Jetes by blaming Cano for not being at 2B I take huge offense to that…Jetes throws a ball Jason Gaimbi had to freaking leap for and no one saids a damn thing, you see where I’m getting at ! he gets that out it’s 1-0
Yanks win, they scored 2 runs. Another meaningless HR by A Rod, but give him credit, he kept us from getting shut out.
ramirez should replace joba in the eighth, and then he can become a starter.

Whenever there’s a game blog, people post so fast, by the time I post my response, the original remark or question is about 20 pages up so my response would probably make little sense… well less sense than it already does… but I like to have a frame of reference. It helps me avoid typing complete sentences.
We will be the best team in baseball in the second half.
I just hope we don’t screw it up too much before then. Joba is going to be a great starter. He always has been. Hughes will (hopefully) come back strong.
Pettitte is a good 2nd half pitcher and Mussina did well down the stretch last year. Wang has been great ever since he’s pitched in the Majors.
Things will turn around. They just look really bad right now. Last year was way, way worse. Remember the broken hand and leg of Karstens and Rasner? Hammies for Matsui and Mussina. Cano.
Everyone was hurt.
This year it’s just a few.
Veterans gut out games when they dont have their best stuff and the D lets them down. You dont go out there and go 2/3 of an inning. A travesty. Because of a Jeter play?
If I remember correctly who saved Moose’s biggest win as a Yankee with a flip to the catcher?
“Not to use repetition but have the Yankees actually had a come from behind win this year?”
No.
Where is that squirrel? Hell we need something
JohnBlacksox -
I’m actually happy you posted what you did. I really didn’t get all hot and bothered when Hawkins threw the ball. I’ve never seen so many people react against their own pitcher at once for throwing a high pitch. So I think what you really saw was those who have disliked the Hawkins signing working out their neverending angst.
The starting pitching stinks.
I don’t care if the offense is Pirate bad. When you cant pitch you cant win.
good job Edwar
need more offense than arod. Let’s hope his homer woke some players up. He can’t do it alone.
Some of you people make me sick. if ARod strikes out you bitch If he hits a home run you bitch You don’t know what you want.
COME ON ROYALS!!!
wow giambi has 2 hits!
well… that’s something.
As Rodney Dangerfield said so eloquently, ” I’ll be drinking early tomorrow “.
“Another meaningless HR by A Rod”
Only meaningless if your team gives up 6 unearned runs in the 1st inning.
Giambi breaks the .200 mark! Things ARE looking up.
cano needs not swing at the first pitch, he should develop some patience, then he would be good.
Jennifer, didn’t something really dramatic happen last time Pete took a day off too?
Jax, I’ll ask whatever I want and whenever I want.
I didn’t realize you’d been appointed blog police.
Why do we make Cabrera look like a Cy Young Award winner every start he makes vs us?
Candy Store Owner -
Whatever.
wow, cano not only is hurting the yanks, but my fantasy team too.
Its the new era of baseball…young guys, young guys, young guys and no steroids…….we are still counting on too many old guys….Damon, Giambi…..etc……all this for $212 million and the Yankees are raising their ticket prices, that’s a joke!!…..fans want to see a team that plays hard, not over the hill players collecting paychecks….Cashman is clueless and Igawa is exhibit #1 of this…..please leave the building Cashman and before you leave let the owners know that the real fans won’t and in some cases can’t pay those crazy prices to see the Yankees play…..I hate to admit it but Boston seems to have done everything right and we have done soo much wrong…..just seeing Giambi at 1B and Igawa on the team makes me laugh at what they were doing and thinking going into this year….
You should have received the memo, Angel. Quit crying about X-Rays and start your usual crying about the team.
well… so much for that.
Wow. Giambi at .204 now
Robbie at .200
pat-
Jason needs to return the hair to Damon. Stat!
HAHAHA YANKEES SUCK SCORE MORE THAN 2 RUNS A GAME INSTEAD OF 9 DOUBLE PLAYS A GAME HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
at least those three balls were hit well
Cano needs to work the count though…. you beat a teams middle relief in the 5th and 6th innings, not the starters/back-end of the bullpen (best chance at least).
OK, so I checked…The Yanks are currently 26th out of all 30 major league teams in runs scored. Only the Blue Jays, Royals, Giants and Padres are worse. Ugh…
(Note – The Yanks were sharing 26th place with the O’s before tonight’s game, but the O’s have obviously moved ahead of them now!)
You know the Yankees really have great fans. It’s a 8-run game in the 7th on a chilly weeknight and there are people there cheering “Let’s go Yankees…”
Keith,
Cashman is trying to go young. Hence, not trading for santana, and trying to go young. You are typing contradiction.
who’s gonna preach patience w/ Robi Cano ? somebody ? anybody…I’m getting close very close to saying Kevin Long should be fired.
Run along, Jax.
The day I ‘ll let someone who can’t even get their facts right about the kind of fan I am, dictate anything I do on a blog won’t ever come.
Is this “Who’s to blame, Jeter vs. Moose” question for real? if Jeter makes the play, the whole game could look different, yes. But if Moose doesn’t then give up 7 runs, that could change the complextion of the game as well. Plenty of blame to go around for this one.
Jeter doesn’t need defending. Moose really doesn’t either, but did anyone think he was going to win every game for the rest of the season because he’s looked good recently? This was kind of a bad night for him to let down, but they’ve all been bad nights lately. Maybe he wins his next three starts and this game is just a bad memory.
It’s just one game, either way.
anyone else getting the Word press error a lot?
I miss Larry Bowa
Raise your hand if you want Cashman picking pitchers this off season in the retooling.
Igawa over Lilly.
No Santana.
Pavano, Farnsworth, Hawkins, a 65 yr old Unit, trade Contreras and watch him win a WS
Okajima walked the bases loaded. Here comes Francoma.
Ugly Papelsmear in to do his best imitation of a fish.
YanksAngel-yes.
“anyone else getting the Word press error a lot?”
yup and it’s pissing me off
Now Veras is in the game Who is going to bitch about that. Lets here it
enjoy the game? yikes!!! hard to imagine any worse scenario short of what we’re seeing minus a-rod’s homer. errors! (10 runs, 2 earned???) injuries! anemic hitting! what next? locusts?
YanksAngel – Yes.
Why don’t you run along Angel or at least quit worrying about me and continue your crying about the team. Maybe you can type another X Ray remark.
come on yankees
Austin Jackson/ Jose Tabata should come up and spark something.
Nick in SF –
Thinking the same thing re: blame to go around.
YanksAngel -
WordPress doesn’t like me tonight, either.
Nick in SF
GREAT post.
I have been YanksAngel. Maybe its the name? lol.
Remember this all Yankee Quitters. There is only one good team in the AL this yr and thats Boston. 85 wins will compete for the WC.
We wouldn’t want the Quitters eating crow like they did last year right???
in AAA SWB JB Cox inherited 2 runners closed the door for 1.2 IP, GO/AO 4-1
Rasner better pitch a complete game tomorrow night because we’ve gone through the entire bullpen.
Let us throw up and in to the opposing team ALL DANG DAY…Jeter gets thrown at ALL THE TIME and he is the face of the Yankees…It is about time we started showing the BIG ONES that all the other teams do when they keep throwing way to close to our key hitters….to HELL with the O’s and every other team we face…All bets are OFF…we need to shoot first and ask questions later…LONG LIVE THE YANKEES !!!
lol, who knew that asking about an X-Ray machine would get someone so bent out of shape?
Why is anyone bitching about the hitting? Who can hit down 10 zip? The pitching is awful.
Hey, continuing to look on the bright side, the WordPress errors might be the only thing keeping the blog from self-destructing tonight. I think if Jeter’s xrays had come back positive, LoHud might not have been able to publish tomorrow.
“Austin Jackson/ Jose Tabata should come up and spark something.”
why slow down thier developement ?
BTW Tabata 2B tonight
just got here… no time to read all the comments.
Another disgusting display…
Question: was Jeter removed from the game because it is a blowout or did he get hurt?
I’d appreciate anyone that can update me on that.
I just want to make sure you get all the X-Ray info you need Angel.
Papelskank gets the red sox out of it
Jeter was embarrassed about his error causing Moose to implode that he removed himself from the game.
Having just got home and not seen the game (thank god…), was Hawkins throw one of those ‘high and tight, but still legit’ deals or a 3-game suspension waiting to happen?
Papelsmear just did his best imitation of a Sicilian as he fist-pumped three times as he walked off the mound.
I’m going to keep talking about them now, Jax – just because I can – and there isn’t a damn thing you can do about it either..
I’m getting close very close to saying Kevin Long should be fired.
Brandon, i know what’s been troubling you. Don’t continue to be a pawn to those on this blog. I feel your anger. It gives you focus. it makes you stronger.
Learn that powers of the Dark Side, to help get Kevin Long Fired!
miggs-Jeter got hurt. Hit by pitch
I hope Papelbon goes down for an extended amount of time.
These redsox updates are pointless right now.
None of that matters if the Yankees keep playing like they do. If the Yankees suck, Red Sox failure doesn’t make me happy… it just makes the hurt a little less.
But they’re playing great. I don’t need reminders about that everyday on this blog.
miggs, Jete got hit in the hand, was very loud in the repay we all thought it was broken for sure. But 1st x-ray came back negative. also you missed latroy headhunting and a bench-clearing bp-clearing almost brawl…
For those of you who missed it – the “bench clearing” is a new video on gameday…
I’ve been asking for Brett/Justin to come up since after spring training. Posted it a few times and got shot down, by some. Brett and Justin are running wild and getting on base a lot. They can’t do much worse then Johnny and Bobby. It will never happen, but it would be nice. Just wishing, who knows, they may be able to hold their own in the bigs. 27/08?
yankees suck daaaaaaa yankees suck
“Having just got home and not seen the game (thank god…), was Hawkins throw one of those ‘high and tight, but still legit’ deals or a 3-game suspension waiting to happen?”
I don’t see it as a 3-game suspension but you never know.
Brandon- NO! Let the Force be with you – don’t jump to the Dark Side!!!!
You should change your handle to X-Ray, Angel. It’s like a broken record with you.
S.A. was it as a precaution or did it look really bad? Where was he hit?
We wouldn’t want the Quitters eating crow like they did last year right???
Depends on how you cook it. Some olive oil, oregano, dry mediterranean rub, grill it 5 minutes on each side… could be tasty
that home run compliments of Luke “throw at my head again” Scott
“I hope Papelbon goes down for an extended amount of time.”
I’d like that~
Sox updates? Seriously? We can’t even beat the O’s and the Rays.
I know what Kevin Long needs! An X-Ray!
Doreen this is not easy
Did anyone see the fist pump by Paplsmear when he struck out Billy Butler? I wonder how cool they’ll find that on ESPN
miggs,
Just watch the replay. The doctors here don’t know anything.
God 12-2. This is as bad as its ever been.
I know we were in a deeper hole last year. But this year we don’t seem to care. Its so pathetic. And then I hear people calling for Sabathia and Texiera. Contracts like the ones those guys will demand are the PRIME reason the team is the way it is now. Overpaid, pampered, old, untradable, no heart.
I hate saying it but its true.
Brandon -
I know…
JoeT -
Don’t you have it out of your system YET? It’s over. The pitch was thrown, Hawkins is out of the game, and many innings have passed. Luke Scott has been hitting well. He hit a homer off Veras, not Hawkins.
It’s over JoeT. Don’t let it sky your blood pressure.
You really don’t need to be so bitter because you can’t dictate to me what I post, Jax. Its really unbecoming.
Does anyone really give a Shoot if Hawkins gets suspended for 3 games or 10 games?
Believe
Wishing injuries on people is just wrong no matter who they play for.
If a team outplays you, they deserve to win. If you don’t like that, play better.
Marc, I mentioned the gross one’s fist pump. Actually it was three first pumps.
miggs-We all thought it was bad. Sounded bad. I thought he broke something in his hand
Trying to help you from becoming a total boob, Angel, but hey you go on talking about X-Rays. It becomes you. It beats you whining about the team.
its just frustrating watching a team who seems to just not fit together….I know we are starting to get younger, but still alot of age and mismatched parts…..its like we are in quicksand this year, but maybe that’s a good thing, keep building towards the future and get rid of lots of dead weight/salary this off-season…remember the Diamondbacks and Rays had lots of losing the last few years to get where they are now…could we live with that for a few years…suffer to get great again…..we did in the early 90′s and it was hard but worth it…….4 championships…I could live with it again but baseball has changed, become more popular, more media, internet…it seems like ESPN would move their headquarters to the Yankee stadium parking lot if we were that bad for a few years and drive everyone crazy with it and make us want the quick fix…it’s a tough situation but with all of that money, it needs to get better so the furor can look brighter for the Yankees….
Edwar Ramirez has been doing a really nice job out of the pen since he was recalled.
I’m thankful for Arod. if not for him it would be a 12-0 game to the O’s. Alex gave the team the little ounce of dignity that it probably doesn’t really deserve in a night like this.
I wish this teams problem was a fist pump from a reliever.

Why wouldn’t you, Sal? People have been bitching for years about how the Yankee pitchers don’t stand up for the hitters.
Fast Eddie, some of us here just automatically hate the Sux and therefore are always watching them and cheering any failure. It’s really that simple.
Also, going into today Texiera and Giambi had the same number of RBIs. And isn’t Giambi off to the worst start in the history of MLB? (as some people on here claim). Yeah let’s throw 140MM at a guy with the same number of RBIs as Giambi this year. Playing everyday hitting in the middle of the Braves lineup.
Think about that for a second.
“Wishing injuries on people is just wrong no matter who they play for.
If a team outplays you, they deserve to win. If you don’t like that, play better.”
Agreed!
Ack. Damon can’t buy a hit since his first one.
How is it kevin Longs fault? So basically the 900+ runs they scored last yr were totally because of him then right?
Hey we’ve won bigger and lost bigger. Turn the page once this is over and let tomorrow be a new beginning.
Or sulk, spin out and agonize.
Your choice.
Don’t fire Kevin Long, give him more authority. Specifically, give him the authority to sit/fine Robbie Cano if Cano won’t follow Long’s instructions. There should be some consequence if Cano keeps throwing away at-bats besides firing Long, who gets credit from so many players for their improved production last season.
And if that doesn’t work, THEN fire him.
Poor Jax, he has me confused with someone else. Shall I give you an X-Ray of my hand so you know its me?
My night will be complete and the sting of a Yankee loss diminished with the news that Papsmear flamed out his shoulder for the year. Poetic justice at it’s best.
Well, is fun as it has been to watch this plane crash in slow motion… it’s time to find something more pleasureable to do… like stabbing my eyes with a white hot poker.
I hope everyone has a pleasant night … at least as pleasant as can be had with this team clogging to toilet drain like it has in the past month.
Trisha… that was much more of a joke… not much else you can do when you average 3 runs a week
The good news-this pitiful game is almost over.
F That.
I hope Ortiz blows out a knee, Manny runs into a wall and break his wrist, Papelbon blows out an elbow and Schilling comes back at 50% and gets shelled.
“How is it kevin Longs fault?”
It isn’t. But if you’ve been here long enough, there is always a ton of finger pointing, humorously enough not always in the same direction, so people even fight over whose “fault” it is.
Par for the course.
I actually appreciated the post that said when you lose by this score, it’s tough to call it anything but a TEAM loss…
hey, the thunder won 3-0 in 10 innings…woohoo!!!!
Looks like Pete picked the absolute perfect night to go see a Broadway show!
You obsessed with me, Angel? Stick to what you do best here. Whine about the team. You got plenty of material.
Aceves AA debut
7.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K’s
Melancon
3.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K’s
Phillies prospect Jason Donald said he use to be college roommates w/ Mark and he’s up here for a reason, he gave credit to Mark even said prior to the game he dared Mark to throw him something he could hit and tonight he got me.
Reegie Corona had a sac bunt and Ramiro Pena put the game to bed Colin Curtis would then line a basehit to CF to make it 2-0, Curtis would score by a double in the 10th by Edwar Gonzalez, Melancon was unhittable 3 scoreless frames.
Kevin Long = coach
coach = teacher
teacher = helps pupils to learn.
Swinging at crap pitches, first pitches, barely hitting the ball out of the infield, no plate discipline, not understanding the strike zone = players, but ultimately on the coach.
Has to be Kevin Long because Girardi isn’t going to get blamed, he is too busy trying not to fire up his team.
You Yankees fans are pathetic. Good fit with your team.
Enjoy the 2008 season.
You know it’s one of those nights when everything the Yankees hit ends up in someone’s glove. Nothing fell for us tonight.
tomorrow we kick their @$$ !
I still can’t believe how some people are bashing the offense like its the offense fault the pitching gives up 7+ runs a game.
Kevin Long , Kevin Lonnnnnnnnng …you damn right I’m paying attention to him after tonight.
“tomorrow we kick their @$$ !”
Yes indeed!
Every dawn is a new beginning.
I cannot wait for the SJ44 critique of this game. He is going to be guns blazin’
trisha – tonight?? I think you meant for the past month and a half.
carl rogers – it’s pretty easy when they can barely score 2 runs a game. 0 tonight if you take out arod.
See being up or down 10 runs we have Ohlendorf,Hawkins and Edwar as the bridge to MO.
Because, Carl, without ARod’s HR, this team would have been shut out. There was never a chance they could come back from their deficit. And no one here is really used to that yet. Not really.
I say, get jax and angel into a ring….that would be WAY more entertaining than this game.
Kevin Long??? How many runs have the SP’s given up the past 3 games???
It’s time for Jirardi to let Yankees players to eat junk foods, maybe that will energize this pathetic team.
GDT all over the ‘net are packed tonight
Only when the Yanks lose do we all come together
“I still can’t believe how some people are bashing the offense like its the offense fault the pitching gives up 7+ runs a game.”
I say don’t bash anyone Carl. Don’t bash the pitching, don’t bash the offense. Hope that things turn around with the whole team.
There have been plenty of games when the starting pitcher has given up next to nothing and we’ve lost. We’re not scoring a ton of runs.
Don’t bash. Just pray for patience and hope for a turnaround.
Look, in all seriousness, you can’t blame Kevin Long for the poor performance of the offense directly. He is not taking the AB’s. These hitters are just old and have developed poor habits.
However, in the world of accountability, it is ultimately the hitting coach who is at fault when the hitters don’t perform. That is not finger pointing so much as it is the job he was hired to do.
It is no different than when shareholders look to remove a CEO because of bad quarterly numbers. The CEO is so removed from daily operations but it is his ship and he is being paid to produce.
carl rogers – I think it’s a fair point to point out that this offense has been scoring a lot less for a lot longer than the starting pitching has been allowing runs.
Quick – how many grannys would we need this inning to tie the score?
c’mon shelley – homer darn it.
Tonight Seattle was down to Detroit 11-1. They eventually lost 12-8, after scoring 7 runs in the last few innings. If Seattle (of all teams) can show some fight and some life when they’re down by 10 runs, why can’t we?
Trisha – your right. We’ll dedicate tomorrow night’s game to your friend.
“I say, get jax and angel into a ring….that would be WAY more entertaining than this game.”
I don’t hit girls and the handicapped.
Why can’t we Chicago Dave? For the same reason that Seattle couldn’t until now. We’re still slumping. They obviously have just broken out of theirs.
You’re close to stumbling to an epiphany, MoBoy — being down so many runs tonight was partially a result of poor starting pitching. Poor starting pitching means that the best 8th inning reliever in the universe can’t help win the game. Joba to the rotation means that we have a good chance for improved starting pitching over the long run.
I’ll wait while you look up “epiphany”.
chicago dave – because we have giambi, cano, abreu, ensberg, molina, and al gonzo batting for us??
keep swinging Shelley maybe your bat finds the air next time
You betcha Fran.
Our Yanks will win it tomorrow night for Chris.
Nah, it’d be boring. I’d just serve Jax a cup of shut the hell up and be done with him, IHA.
I hate double plays. Figures that one ends the game.
Oh well.
Fitting. DP to end the game.
The Yankees have announced that most of the team has been sent to Scranton and that that team has been called up – just kidding!
because when you are down 7-0 after a half inning the other starting pitcher doesn’t attack the zone with no worries and immediately settle down.
Yeah losing 10-0 after 3 innings is the offenses fault.
Ensberg was just trying to show he’s a “true Yankee” there. Ouch!
Ensberg! How absolutely fitting!!!
Terrible in season decision from Girardi in 2008:
Not getting Duncan 400 at bats at 1b/DH/OF to see if hes a legit major league hitter
post game stuff should be interesting
“Austin Jackson/ Jose Tabata should come up and spark something.”
$200,000,000 and we need to get some AA players to have a chance. Awesome.
Good work, Cash.
I am sitting in a hotel and I guess it’s a good thing I am not watching huh?
Carl – tomorrow’s a new day. Come back with a winning attitude. This game is now in the books. Nobody cares to fight over whether it’s the offense or pitching that made it a hard time. It’s ovah.
Well so much for Sunday being the nadir.
What did we see tonight. Bad pitching, bad defense (EIGHT unearned runs), and bad offense.
At least we have good looking uniforms!
trisha – BTW, Seattle is 4-6 in their last ten games. I wouldn’t say that they’re out of their slump. The point is they’re a lousy team, too, but even they have more fight in them than the Yanks do right now.
something interesting that Flaherty just said about Shelley – he’s fouling off more than hitting the ball out. He got a hanging slider and last year it was a homerun; this year its a foul ball. Its examples like this where you have to look at the hitting coach. I understand the player is responsible, but the hitting coach is supposed to point this out and help the player correct the mistake. Even Cano is swinging at the first pitch and not making good decisions.
Kevin Long, what’s going on???
Ensberg’s career is over, Shelley’s batted balls see more gloves than Micheal Jackson
nice crisp game.. good situational hitting, clean fielding, and just overall a great effort. when is the last time they scored without hitting a HR?? it has been minimum 3 games…..
I especially liked the bottom of the 6th or so.. cano flew out weekly to left on the first pitch.. man he is some patient hitter, then melky struck out on 3 pitches, and then jose molina hit a scorcher(not really ) to 2nd on like the first or 2nd pitch. it was about a 8 pitch inning..
the postgame should be hilarious…these team cannot hit the FRIGGIN ball………
We have very good looking uniforms!
What about May 6th’s 5-3 loss to the Indians?
May 7th’s 0-3 loss to the Indians?
May 13th’s 2-1 loss to the Rays?
May 15th’s 2-5 loss to the Rays?
“We have very good looking uniforms!”
So that’s what it has come to now?! HA!!! We truly must have hit rock bottom.
great post Stuart. That’s what I’m talking about. What’s going on with the Yankees hitting?? Examples like these are more proof that its much more than ARod & Posada being out of the lineup.
“The point is they’re a lousy team, too, but even they have more fight in them than the Yanks do right now.”
Yeah Chicago Dave, but they didn’t when they went 1 and 10. The journey of a million miles begins with a single step. Seattle finally found a way to take that step. Hopefully our day is less than 24 hours away.
God bless those uniforms!
McAllister is hitting 95 mph tonight
brain surgeons I got an idea, even you mental midgets can get it..BLAME THE PLAYERS… Yeah kevin long has never told cano to be patient, not to lunge, you do not have to swing at every pitch..Cano has nevver heard those suggestions….
the thoughtful posts here get fewer and fewer.
the insight is great…
Meh. Close the book on that game, lol.
Post game should be interesting.
Anytime you want Angel. I’m going to go out on a deep limb and say you are Hankish and full of it. Maybe you will actually find out about those X-Rays after all.
“post game stuff should be interesting”
Kim Jones will use the phrase “can you talk about” to start 50% of questions.
Moose: “Nothing was working tonight”
Jeter: “I’m fine”
Damon: “We are better than this”
Rodriguez: “I’m just happy to be back playing”
Girardi: “We need to play better. We just need to get it done.”
When teams slump as a whole, everyone presses: Baseball 101.
Slumps eventually end, even team slumps: Baseball 102.
GO YANKEES!
Good use of the word “nadir”, RSM.
Tomorrow night we pound Olson into the pavement.
It’s always darkest just before the dawn.
(It’s also always darkest just before it goes completely black, but never mind that)
No one was complaining about Cano’s patience the past 3 years when he hit 300.
I got my money on Jax in the fight.
Pat –
trisha,
“Hey we’ve won bigger and lost bigger. Turn the page once this is over and let tomorrow be a new beginning.
Or sulk, spin out and agonize.
Your choice.”
It’s time to take off the pinstriped glasses.
This team is last in the league in hitting with men on base.
They are below average defensively at first, shortstop, and left field. They are only average defensively at every other position. Only 2 teams have a worse fielding percentage.
There is very little team speed. Only 1 team has fewer stolen bases.
They are next to last in runs scored. Only 2 teams have lower on base percentage.
Only 1 team has a higher ERA.
It’s not time to “sulk, agonize or spin out”. It’s time to make changes…. NOW!! A message needs to be sent. Someone has to go…be it Giambi, Damon,or members of the coaching staff. Cano not covering second base in the first inning is a prime example of a team putting out no effort. The team’s performance is totally unacceptable and must be addressed.
Jax:
You got a better chance of seeing the Yankees win a game than having Angel be legit. From reading him everyday I highly doubt that one.
Pat – how did you already see the post game show?!!!
So…
When will we actually win a game again?
tomorrow maybe?
pat – Someone will also say something to the effect of, “Everyone in this room knows how to win. We just have to go out there and start doing it.”
LOL pat
I refuse to give up on this season yet, but this is as bad as it gets. We were in a bigger hole last year, but the team didn’t look THIS bad. We just got our buts kicked by the freakin Mets and Orioles! Every aspect of the Yankees play is so bad that I don’t even know what to say at this point. It’s time for Girardi to close the clubhouse and blow his top. This team is embarassing.
.
.
.
but they do have beautiful uniforms!
Because we all would love to hear them all say “We quit. The season is over. Just end it”
They should all be like 90% of people here huh?
Mel that is the point he is not hitting 300. and also I do complain since he hits like 160 with the bases loaded. cano has a chance to be great but I think his stupididty will hold him back.
Melancon 3 innings to get the win tonight, 4k’ and 1 walk…
Molina looked alot better about 4 weeks ago..
Drive 4-5
Well since nobody here manages this team, our choices are either to turn the page or sulk, sin out and agonize.
I’ve made my choice. You can make yours.
What do you want the players to say? Not be positive? Like they aren’t trying hard to win? Thankfully they dont pick playoff teams based on the first 45 games.
G Love,
This team and management had betten not quit! If they do I want a refund on my season tickets.
Fran
The postgame show has become Groundhog Day.
RSM –
Those unis are GORGEOUS!
And people complain about the Yankees.
For shame.
Cano loves hitting .200. He is definitely not trying out there.
Looks like I picked a good game to completely miss. I checked the score at one point and from a selfish fantasy perspective, I’m glad Moose only got charged with 1 ER.
My 35 week pregnant wife and I were at Birthing Class, one couple actually had the baby today 5 weeks early. I’m going to focus on the future baby tonight and pretend this game never happenned.
Moose (shouting): “Nothing was working tonight we were one play away from getting out of it those are the breaks!â€
Jeter: “I’m fine, I’ll play tomorrowâ€
Damon: “I played bad, and I can’t be making mistakes like those, We are better than thisâ€
Rodriguez: “I’m just happy to be back playing and help this team anyway I can,(pauses) I felt good in my swings and hopefully it continuesâ€
Girardi: “We need to play better, field better, hit better. We just need to get it done no excuses.â€
Prediction
88 wins WC. Lose in 1st rd to Anaheim because of crappy SP.
trisha,
My choices are to urge them to fight. Your choice is for them to roll over and not learn anything from this. The current configuration of this team doesnt work. It’s disfunctional. A quarter of the season has gone by. If you want to compete, you pick yourself up ,make changes and jump start this thing.
Congratulations on your upcoming great news JeffNJ! And won’t it feel good to say to your new son or daughter “Good thing you weren’t here last week! Yankees are looking like a new team child. You didn’t want to see them last week.”
Or you accept this team for what it is, and what its record says it is. Perhaps, call it a “rebuilding year.” Just don’t call it good, because unfortunately, it’s not.
Drive 4-5 -
Uh, no. The difference is that I know I have no control over what the Yankees do. So I will just continue to support them and wait for them to turn into the team we all know they can be. I don’t rail and curse the fates when I am nothing more than a loving fan.
I trust that people who are paid to take care of business are doing so to the best of their ability.
Literally just walked in from work and could not watch the game.
Guess it was a good thing tonight though. I feel like we should have a new segment on this board called “Moral Victory of the Night”
MVOTN: A-Rod’s Home run.
Congrats Jeff.
Nice to see Alex back on the field. Shame the rest of the team didn’t bother to show up.
Moose “I didn’t have it tonight, I didn’t know where any of my pitches were going to land, had it not been that inning it would have been the next, I had nothing”
Jetes “I didn’t have a good grip on the ball”
Girardi “it was ugly, And answered “it doesn’t work that way you can’t just flip a switch” to the Yankees rebounding like they’ve done in the past
and yes Sterling had an orgasm moment on Alex’s HR and praised the lord that Jetes told Suszyn he can play tomorrow.
I can’t stand Kim Jones sometimes. Is she TRYING to get Girardi to whack her out? Is it a thing with her that if she doesn’t get a freakin negative reaction to her question that she will continue to push and pick hoping she can get one?
I admire Girardi’s ability to maintain equilibrium during his press conferences. He’s pretty levelheaded. Good for him.
Brandon –
I just walked in. Please someone fill me on where Cabrera beaned Jeter and how Hawkins retaliated?
I wonder how much lower can the Yanks go.
May be tomorrow night the birds will pitch a perfect game against us. That and Rasner gets hurt.
trisha,
Unfortunately, I’m not just a casual fan like yourself. I’ve followed this team for over 45 years and back up my loyalty with my wallet. I’m a lot more passionate.
I dont live and die based on what the Yankee’s fate was on a particular day. I’ve seen a lot of losing Yankee teams, especially in the 60′s and ’70′s. You can accept losing when there is effort given. Horace Clarke was a terrible second baseman but you knew he’d give it 100%. The lack of hustle and enthusiasm on this club is appalling.
So what’s everyone gonna do with all their free time now this summer?
anyone want tickets to red sox / yankees July 3rd in the Bronx?
sometimes i wish steroids were legal.
80-37 gets us to 100 wins….never say die….( pass the bottle over here, dang nabbit ! )( hic ! )
Kill-Shill – wait til Moose’s press conference is over and then I’ll fill you in.
Moose wasn’t comfortable at all during his outing.
Kim Jones: You should have been out of the inning and 1-0. Does that error gnaw at you?
She should be fired. Moose was honest about having nothing.
Turn the page kids.
Drive 4-5 -
I don’t know that it has anything to do with passion for the team. In fact you could argue that I have more since I am willing to support them no matter what.
But I do not have a financial ticket investment.
We are almost 14 games out… Way to go.
I like that: “Jete got hit, no one else got it”
Hey, thats baseball folks! You go after the captain of any team, expect retaliation.
Dr. Cox – I loved LaTroy’s answers. He is one cool dude.
would it really bother anyone if Watson suspends Hawkins
Brandon – yes.
It really is an unwritten rule of baseball and it will never change.
I coach little league and this kid intentionally hit one of my players. Obviously I didnt tell him to throw back at the other team, but they did it anyway. These kids are 15-17 years old.
Its always going to happen.
I am so down on this season. This team hasn’t given me much hope it can turn things around.
Obsess over me much, Jax?
You appear to have an inferiority complex. Don’t worry, its fully justified.
For many years the Yankees did NOT do it and caught a lot of criticism for it. Players truly appreciate it when their pitchers protect them.
love that little jerking motion a Sox closer does
Yanks are going with the “Close doesn’t hurt” defense for all suspension appeals this year.
Dr. Cox – you’re right. Hawkins stood up like Farnsworth did. He even gave the same answers in the post game.
BTW: I hope Mike and the Mad Dog spend the whole day talking about Papelbon’s fist pumping in the 8th AND 9th inning tomorrow. I will call them up and scream at them if they dont.
“I coach little league and this kid intentionally hit one of my players. Obviously I didnt tell him to throw back at the other team, but they did it anyway. These kids are 15-17 years old.”
Little League is 11-12yr olds, pal. Why lie and say you coach a LL team?
Hey, at least we might get a pretty good draft position next year.
It would bother me, Brandon. Why wouldn’t it bother you?
trisha,
You could argue that, but like most everything else you say, you’d be wrong.
I travel 350 miles from MA to NYC 15 times a year to attend games. I was going to games in 1965 when the team was the worst in baseball. I was at the old Stadium in August 1968 when outfielder Rocky Colavito was our winning starting pitcher against the Deroit Tigers and put us over .500 for the first time since 1964. I could go on and on, but I’ve made my point.I’ve supported dozens of losing Yankee teams over the years and I know the great a feeling it is when it gets turned around.
I have a far better perspective than a fan like yourself that only knows Yankee’s success.
I agree with SJ44′s assessment that the future looks fairly bright, but I also have to say that this season looks quite bleak. This team is incredibly frustrating to watch, and, speaking for myself, I was hoping for something different with Girardi at the helm. I realize Girardi is only playing the cards he was dealt, so I don’t fault him. Still, there is a good bit of baseball left in the season and anything can happen. However it goes, I’ll be along for the ride.
pete, what happened with that 3run bomb for arod
damnd u jinx him
Pete, this season is finished for Yankees, wrong coaches and wrong players. NO TEAM SPIRITS AT ALL. BASEBALL IS NOT TENNIS.
“Little League is 11-12yr olds, pal. Why lie and say you coach a LL team?”
Maybe he’s not lying, maybe the kids are lying. Danny Almonte!
Who cares what a radio show talks about? Get a job.
Wow. Someone is actually impersonating me. I’m flattered. For the record, I haven’t posted all night. I was at the game.
They still stink.
I like to avoid future HR derby’s Angel
“Little League is 11-12yr olds, pal. Why lie and say you coach a LL team?”
Oh sorry, buddy. Didnt know my little slip of calling kids much younger than me little league would get your panties in a bunch.
What a lie that was from me.
Two posts without an X-Ray comment, Angel? You feeling okay? Or you just crapping those pants after getting called out and shaking like a little baby?
Dr. Cox-It won’t matter if Papelskank does it. Only if Joba does it. According to Crazy and Fruitloops it goes against “the Yankee way and the Yankees do things a certain way”
Man..I miss the days when the great Joba fist pump debates were the main issues going on in Yankee land. Seems so long ago…
Do people get some kind of claim on nicknames here or something? If you want to complain ask for a typepad type registration.
Drive 4-5
I guess you mistake me for someone who actually cares about your whining.
I don’t.
I’ve been with the Yankees through lean times and good times. However I don’t fall apart when things don’t go my way. I take the team however I get them. Win or lose. They’re my boys.
Now bother someone else.
Why is it unless you spend boatloads of money, you’re only considered a casual fan by some people?
“Oh sorry, buddy. Didnt know my little slip of calling kids much younger than me little league would get your panties in a bunch.
What a lie that was from me.”
There is a huge difference between 11 yr olds and 17 yr olds especially on a baseball field. Don’t be disingenuous.
Well, this was fun.
There is something rotten in Denmark. Or rather in the Bronx.
The clubhouse feels wrong. Similar to last year, but somehow even worse than last year.
I hope Girardi takes Cano out of the lineup for a few games and puts the AG in. Its not like there will be a difference in the number of hits from that slot, but at least the AG will have the pitcher throw more than one pitch.
I don’t recall Jeter looking so disgusted with his fellow team mates like he has been this year. His looks at Cano and Giambi after errors is telling.
There is a rotting undercurrent going on right now in the Yankees team, and something needs to be done to correct it.
I wish more people here were like Trisha and less like Sj44.
Trisha:
Im with you. This is my team and i will follow them to hell and back.
But damn, it is just tough right now.
Once they start winning, everyone on the board will be getting along better. I see it happen every season.
Well, Mussina finally came back to life. Not a moment too soon. Made me wish for Igawa.
well, for anyone considering jumping off a ledge, the following Yankee Web Replacement Level post puts a stetch like this in perspective:
http://www.replacementlevel.co.....games_mean
Pk you are more of a jerk than SJ44. Give it a rest. No one cares about your hate for trisha.
trisha:
Do not let the quitters and defeatists get your spirit down.
Ah, nothing like natural disasters and their after effects to uh….lift my spirits? Care less about a sports loss?
Methinks it’s now over 60k dead, 200k+ wounded, and millions rendered homeless (infrastructure essentially collapsed, literally) for the Sichuan earthquake
And Chinese government apparently issued a 1-2 day warning of a possible aftershock that’ll be 6 to 7 on the Richter scale, lovely
trisha,
whining? LOL Please leave your condescending bs for others.
I’ve supported this team unfailinglgy loner than you’ve been on this earth honey
“There is a huge difference between 11 yr olds and 17 yr olds especially on a baseball field. Don’t be disingenuous.”
You need to chill out, son. I said little league because they are kids (yes teens) but kids none the less, and it is a rec league.
Doesnt make me a liar and/or disingenuous. Just an honest mistake.
Cano needs to hit himself out of it. Benching him will make it worse.
I want no part of your obvious inferiority complex. If it makes you feel better to stalk me all over this blog, have at it. You’re on your own. I’ll continue to post whatever and whenever I like, but I’ve said my last thing to you.
“But damn, it is just tough right now.”
Dr. Cox – that is without question. But we just hang in and wait for the dawn, right?
“You need to chill out, son. I said little league because they are kids (yes teens) but kids none the less, and it is a rec league.
Doesnt make me a liar and/or disingenuous. Just an honest mistake.”
How is mixing up 11 yr olds and 17 yr olds an honest mistake? It’s ok. You dont coach a little league team. Jeez.
Can’t keep a whiner like you down for long, Angel. Proving me right that you are full of Hank. Hot air. Good luck with that.
i’m just so glad we have Joba for the 8th
Drive – so you’re a crochety old man. Your problem not mine. And you’re a loner. Your problem again.
Bother someone else.
Thank you!
Pk, you are a jerk. We don’t need people like you coming here and trying to cause trouble by name calling. You don’t like trisha? That’s great. Keep it to yourself and quit acting like a jerk. She just keeps proving to me classier than you will ever be.
I still can’t believe The Bulls won the lottery …
trisha please do not listen to repulsive cretins like PK. You are much better than that and them.
I hope this game ends all discussion about where Joba should be pitching.
“Dr. Cox. Trust me. You do not want to see Trisha at dawn. It is scary.”
Not quite sure what you mean here.
Ive talken to Trisha on this board on several occasions and find her to be a legit fan and an informed one at that.
Do I agree with everything she says, or anyone for that matter? Definatly not.
But that is the whole point of an internet sports forum. To hear different sides to different issues.
Lohud really needs a registering option to weed out the morons and trolls.
Matty and Jersey Dave – thanks for the support guys! PK is a Sux troll. If Pete were around he would have been offed immediately.
Thats the first thing the Bulls have won in a few years.
well the overnight is sure gonna be interesting
Great game by Jeter today.
Can’t we all just get along ?
“Lohud really needs a registering option to weed out the morons and trolls.”
Agreed! Especially when you have people stealing your name.
Lets do the math. I love the fact that many on this blog are keeping it positive saying the Yanks will get hot. Boy I hope so. Howver lets do the math, If the Yanks continue to lose and give up more games heres what they are setting themselves up for. Right now Boston is 28-19 with 115 to play. Lets say boston does poorly for them and plays 1 game under 500 the rest of the way. that makes them finish with a record of 85-77
The Yanks would have to go 66-42 the rest of the way to finish one game ahead. Thats 24 games over 500 the rest of the way. NOw, that does not count or matter if the red sox play better than 1 game under 500, Nobody can think they`ll do that, and it does not consider if someone else in the divsion gets hot. I think its asking alot. Every loss matters….
Yeah it does seem crazy that people can appropriate your name.
“I don’t recall Jeter looking so disgusted with his fellow team mates like he has been this year.”
The disgusted look he gave Alex on a pop-up last year was pretty good.
I didnt see the game.
At who was Jeter disgusted at, why and at what point in the game did it occur?
@ Blargh
Yes – there are much more important things in life than sports – it’s so sad what has happened in China – especially when you consider how many children are amongst the victims.
As I get older – sports and the Yankees are less important to me – in fact – sports has become much more trivial … I still cheer the Yankees – will watch them when I can – but in the grand scheme of things – I think of the tragic human loss – maybe 60k + & their families and dwell less on the Yankee’s misfortunes.
There’s always tomorrow for Yankee fans…
Jose Veras is garbage. Option now.
PK-
Looks lime you won’t be posting here anymore after your racy comments.
Adios Punk!
oh god I hope Church doesn’t have a concussion, he’s bleeding alot on that takeout slide
Jeter shouldn’t be frustrated with anyone, he played like S today. He really needs to pick it up. Captains are supposed to do that. This is definately Arod’s team now.
Dr. Cox
1st inning, made a face at Cano for not covering second base quick enough to flip to him so he threw to 1st instead and the ball sailed too high for Giambi to get the out. The high throw was the play that made all the runs but 1 unearned.
I didn’t get to hear the postgame. Was anything said about Jeter’s injury?
I missed what happened with Church. Hope he is ok.
someone has it in for NY this year
Georgy still not back, Hughes is still hurt
Jetes nearly broke his hand, Pedro’s dad is sick
Knicks lose in the draft, Nets if they would have loss one more game they win the Draft tonight, Bulls win the draft jump from #9 to Lottery winners
Ryan Church just a few minutes ago on the game ending DP looks to have suffered another concusion and was bleeding immensely.
IDK what to say is NY cursed this year ?
Brandon, no. 18-1!
Just saw what happened to Church. Oh my.
Nick in SF then the SuperBowl sacrificed alot of teams…
Church’s knee to the head looks like Arod’s when he was in Seattle..I’d be surprised if he doesn’t miss 30-40 games
I’m flying back tomorrow to give the Yankees a second opinion on Jeters hand.
Don’t worry people, The University of Phoenix Medical School is highly reputable.
I know what I am doing.
Thanks, Zach. I feel better already.
It’s my belief that the glorious results of the Super Bowl are unconnected with our present difficulties. But if you want to look for an omen, the G-men had some pretty rough patches to start the season, and they ended up at the end of a parade in the Canyon of Heroes being congratulated by Eliot Spitzer!
Hmmmm, maybe THAT’s the curse!
That Superbowl win was worth it.
The whole playoff run was worth it. I still remember seeing the look on Jerry Jones face right after the Cowboys game. Priceless!
Ok, now Omar Minaya wants me to give a second opinion on Ryan Church.
This University of Phoenix medical degree is already paying off…and I didnt even have to leave the house.
I’m on the first Qantas flight out!
ps… dont ever fly Qantas.
I know SA but something is fishy
So I go to spend the evening with my best friend that I have’t seen except for the night before my birthday since January
And I come back and find that the Nets got bbloody shafted and the Yankees killed.
Italy can’t come soon enough…
Maybe we really do need to turn to voodoo for this team?
Everything just seems off.
I dunno..
If we need to get a chicken..I know a place in South Jersey that can help us out.
Rebecca,
you picked a good night to go out. We all probably could have picked this last week to go out…maybe find some new hobbies. I’ve always had a thing for model trains.
I, however, sat here like a masochist on the other side of the world watching the Yankee game on my stinking laptop whilst getting curious glances from random Australians. They must have been wondering why I was frothing at the mouth.
I need to find a good model train set to buy.
Rebecca, tonight was really rough. Please do go to Sostanza’s in Florenece and get me a steak to go. I need help.
Jeter doesn’t point his finger on anyone but himself on the post-game which I heard from radio.I said that is his fault because he didn’t grip the ball very well. I think the reason is
Jeter needs to change grip of baseball from flipping to throwing.
The real speed of a baseball game is very fast. That’s why Jeter made that error because he was surprised that Cano didn’t cover second base. They always make the force on second base all the time for the last out of an inning.
How can you tell Jeter’s face expression is toward to Cano and Giambi? Jeter may disgust the result. Even though he make that face expression toward Cano, I think it’s understandable. If players care game and play hard, they should be disappointed at that when that happen at the first moment. But, Jeter is captain and didn’t point finger to Cano after game.
Of course, I am disappointed at Yankees’ defense, but I won’t overreact Jeter’s reaction. It seems to me Cano always make some easy misatake defensively. Of course, Jeter has to take some blame as well because it seems he makes some throwing errors this season.
i just saw the Church hit on NY1.. wow! I hope he’s ok
“ps… dont ever fly Qantas.”
is it really bad?? i know the US carriers fly to Sydney, but you gotta take it to other Australian destinations.
“is it really bad?? i know the US carriers fly to Sydney, but you gotta take it to other Australian destinations.”
Hmmm? Qantas and United are both bad in my opinion. Actually, United might be even worse than Qantas. I have to fly down here a few times a year. The best way to do it is by Air New Zealand, Air Tahiti (with a stop in Tahiti ofcourse!), Cathay Pacific, or Emirates.
Domestic flights on Qantas are fine. There are plenty of other options though.
what happened to what church??
ryan church got hit by the atl SS on the last play, looked to get hurt fairly bad. possible concussion, the mets have many issues… the are very old…..
ifr Church is out trade Abreu to them for a bunch of picks or minor leaguers!!!!!
I know it will never happen but the Yanks can add Gardner and move Melky to Rt. and get more athletic, or trade them Damon..
I know this will never ever happen but I have ni problem making trades with the Mets if it helps the Yanks….
I’ve never had any problem with Qantas International. United wasn’t good though.
And you’re in Melboure, so that explains the strange looks you’re getting.
I love Melbourne and Melburnians…
they just dont understand baseball.
can they DFA Ensberg when Betemit comes back.. can Ensberg do any worse? Is it possible??
At least Gonzo is not suppose to be a hitter, he can play ss and 2B..
I think the culprit of much anger should be Cano, at least giambi(loser) and Damon have the fact that they are old and broken down, cano has only one excuse that he is a mental midget and since he has only had about 10,000AB’s in his life he is still figuring things out……..
Are you sure about that? Australia did win the silver medal in baseball at the olympics last time. Its a much bigger sport there than it used to be.
I have to hate Melbourne, its ingrained in me.
I’m from Sydney, lol.
I know losses are bad but the comments board here is an embarrassment during losses.
Why couldn’t the Church thing happen to Manny?
Ack.. i wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
It’s just sad watching a team with this much talent play this poorly.
I do think changes are coming because I think Hank and Hal want to have a better product than this in order to help sell the price raises that the new stadium are going to bring.
I’m not suggesting that the Yankees aren’t going to easily sell season tickets, but I think if this team keeps playing this poorly, the attitude towards the franchise starts to change.
Right now they look like a bunch of overpaid stiffs. Something has to be done and some subtractions have to be made.
I go to every home game I can go to every season and I’ll continue to do that, but I’ve already seen people in my section starting to drop out and that includes the Mets series.
Imagine the All Star game in July and the story being the Yankees are in last place.
I know we all think they are going to just snap out of it, but you don’t know that. You’re hoping that.
They need to just show us some signs they are going to compete.
The past week and half has been some of the least inspiring baseball we’ve seen in years.
There has to be something that can be done with this roster to get some new blood in there.
I think the changes are coming sooner than later.
An interesting thing I read in Hank’s interview in the NY Times was him saying they need to get away from the computer scouting and start doing some actually scouting again.
I think that is a step in the right direction since computer projections and stats at the end of the season don’t see what we’re seeing on the field.
I’m not against stats, but I also hate to think that Cashman is trying to turn this into Boston and start spouting about “metrics”.
I’d rather have a team that picks players based on how hard they plan and how much they want to win vs. stats.
Heart doesn’t show up on a stat sheet.
I almost always fly Continental. They’re generally okay–excellent if you can travel first, but I’ve only done that three times–once at 7, once at 15 and once at 18, all with my family.
We have to read Angels nonsense for the game now we get to peruse his thoughts on Australian airlines. Ugggh. Aren’t blowout losses bad enough?
And how did they look last yr at this time, G Love? In 2006? In 2005??
How did those seasons end up?
“Are you sure about that? Australia did win the silver medal in baseball at the olympics last time. Its a much bigger sport there than it used to be.”
Very true. It does have a certain niche following here in Australia…and both Sydney and Melbourne have very good amateur leagues in the city and suburbs…
but your everyday cricket-loving Aussie will always look at baseball and call it a glorified game of rounders.
as an american, i have taken to cricket…but probably more out of necessity.
I don’t like how all the negative nancy’s here try to shout down the positive people like trisha.
Yeah, but thats just because a game of baseball is too short for them. They want to spend a whole day or 5 days committed to an outcome in cricket, lol. And in the 5 day game you don’t always even get one of those!!
I like cricket and I understand it and because I grew up with it I get its appeal and the history, but I love baseball too – I’m an anomaly though.
You people are hilarious. Blaming Long, Giambi, the dfense, offense, Steve Balboni, etc.
When the real blame goes to the starting pitching and the man who put this team together.
What are you doing in Melbourne, anyway? Thats a long way to go for a short time there. I’d still be getting over jetlag, haha.
Kelly,
I actually thought about that a lot. This time last year, we had Arod having a legendary opening to the season.
We had comeback wins. Dramatic comebacks early in the season.
Jorge was tearing the cover off the ball and looked like he discovered the fountain of youth.
There were things to actually take positives from.
There’s not much here to take positives from. Everybody is playing poorly across the board.
Even when this team stuggled in the past, usually someone was doing something that we could hang our hats on and be hopeful.
The only one who has done that this season has been Mo and Wang.
Outside of those two, this is an inconsistent team.
I’m hopeful that Arod’s return will give us some more offense, but he can’t do it alone.
It seems like if one guy does good in a game, the other 8 do nothing right now.
But most of all, we’ve seen this before from this group of guys and we know how much it takes for them to get to the post season.
I know there are some of us who aren’t so sure they have another sprint left in them. We’ve been spoiled by the 2nd half sprints and you can’t count on them as a given. Especially when the rest of the division is playing much better than you are.
In the same Times piece I read, it had a take from an opposing scout. He said the way to beat the Yankees is to throw strikes and challenge them inside since the bat speed of the team is so slow.
I think the scout is right and I don’t know where the increase in bat speed is going to come from. Some of these players look way past their prime.
Church again? Didn’t he get hurt pretty bad during an ST collision?
“They want to spend a whole day or 5 days committed to an outcome in cricket, lol. And in the 5 day game you don’t always even get one of those!!”
I’m usually at the SCG for the Boxing Day test match every year…Its amazing to see how much alcohol I (and others) can consume while sitting in the same seat for 7 hours. The drinking culture amongst the spectators in cricket is commendable. I love it.
I usually travel business on long haul flights like LA/Sydney.
Have a great time in Rome/Florence, Rebecca. Rome is one of my favorite European cities.
“What are you doing in Melbourne, anyway? Thats a long way to go for a short time there. I’d still be getting over jetlag, haha.”
Work in Project Management. One of my partners is based here in Aus, so I’m down here about 3-4x per year to show face, etc…
I lived here for about 5 years during my college days. Univ. of Melbourne grad!
“I’m usually at the SCG for the Boxing Day test match every year…Its amazing to see how much alcohol I (and others) can consume while sitting in the same seat for 7 hours. The drinking culture amongst the spectators in cricket is commendable. I love it.”
LOL. Ummm.. I’m taking the 5th there. It is fun though. Although not quite so fun to be drowned with a full beer when some nimrod throws his up during “the wave” at a one day game. The part about beer at the SCG being too expensive to waste it drowning others? Yeah, not so much at cricket games, lol
Aren’t the Boxing Day tests usually in Melbourne? Has that changed? Sydney always used to get the test series that started on New Years Day tests when everyone was still hungover from the night before, lol.
Sorry..i meant the New Years Day test in Sydney. although the Mexican Wave at the SCG is quite similar to that at the MCG.
Oh I see, I’d love a job like that. I don’t get home enough these days. I’ve been to Melboure a few times – mostly just on weekend trips and once for the Melbourne Cup. Used to stay mostly around Swanston Street. I always got a kick out of how they called their beers a “pot” of beer.
Well 3 in the afternoon there means midnight here. I’m out. Have a safe flight outta there.
Cheers…
you’re right about that. Skooners are faaaar superior to pots….but Melbourne has “culture”…or does it?
I’m not coming back until the Yankees win a game.
Lots of fun sitting out in the sun during an Aussie summer too. Ugh.
Yep, who knew “mexican wave” was Australian for throw your full and empty cups in the air instead of your arms.
Later.
“I’m not coming back until the Yankees win a game.”
See you tomorrow night, Zach in port jeff
“I hope Papelbon goes down for an extended amount of time”
You stay classy new york.
papelbons fist pumping may have been worse then Jobas.. the guy has been in the league 2 yrs longer, won a world series and was out of control. I am sure maddog mr. fairness will point it out!!!!!!!!!!!!
there is no chance that loser will bring it up, nor will the moron NY press corp bring it up, the yanks are held to there own standard that no one else is held to….
Boy did I pick the wrong day to stop drinking!!!
