Corruption, music and movies
Ugly story coming out of Chicago. The White Sox fired director of player personnel Dave Wilder and two scouts for allegedly skimming money from the team’s Dominican operation. The Big Lead has the details.

Took a few days off after the road trip and the Mets series. Caught Jersey Boys on Broadway with my parents on Tuesday night. I’ve seen exactly three musicals in my life, so I’m not exactly Frank Rich when it comes to reviewing this stuff.
But it was a great show. Put it this way, it was so good that I went on iTunes and downloaded some Four Seasons songs when I got home. I had no idea that Joe Pesci was involved in getting the Four Seasons together. Everything goes back to Jersey, one way or another.
Caught Forgetting Sarah Marshall yesterday. I had high hopes but it turns out that Judd Apatow can be involved in a bad movie. When Jonah Hill isn’t funny, you know a movie has issues. Outside of Kristen Bell and Mila Kunis in bikinis, there wasn’t much there.

You, stop what you’re doing and download the song Shut Up and Let Me Go by The Ting Tings. Guaranteed biggest hit of the summer.

You must be the only person in the world who hated Forgetting Sarah Marshall
I didn’t like the movie either. I didn’t think it was very funny.
I want to sincerely thank Peter Abraham for agreeing with me in one of his earlier posts that Bill Belichick deserves the same karma as those who do not feel all ‘all warm and tingly’ inside over a cancer survivor pitching a no-hitter. It’s nice to see a Patriots fan show some unbiasedness towards his coach and defend him.
Song can be heard here:
http://www.last.fm/music/The+T.....+Let+Me+Go
*not defend him
Recently came across the band Big Star, and downloaded the song “Thirteen”
charlie steiner had a whitesox beat reporter on the other day and he was saying that nobody was saying (at least as of monday) that the guy was skimming money for himself, rather that bonuses were being used to pay off agents and other hangers-ons to get guys to sign. and i am hearing that this may just be the tip of the iceburg.
I thought Sarah Marshall had it’s moments. I really liked Russell Brand in it. If any of you guys are a fan of British comedies then you will have already known about him. Speaking of bad movies I saw a midnight showing of the new Indy movie and I wasn’t expecting much but it was really really bad. Weak story, over the top action sequences. It seems Lucas is hell bent on destroying all the good things he contributed to my childhood. I know this wont dissuade you from seeing it, but for the love of God don’t pay full price for this pile of S***!
“Shut up and Let Me Go” is on the latest iTunes commercial. Thought it was Lady Sovereign. Boy was I wrong when I did the search.
Biggest hit? I don’t know about that. It’s pretty good. Hits coming from all the music players/phones. Coldplay has a new one and I still love the Shin’s “Sleeping Lessons”.
Your buddy Feinsand on espnews right now.
Patrick, don’t download just that one song. Big Star is one of the most under rated bands ever. One of my favorites is ‘You Get What You Deserve’
What are you talking about? I’d never wish cancer on anybody. Maybe you’ve got the wrong person. I was referring to a response Peter Abraham left on a previous post.
Mehdi thanks, I’ll have to do that, starting with your selection.
steve, funny how you and (apparently) another guy named steve are both still harping about bellichick cheating, AND downplaying lester’s no hitter at the same time.
the ‘other steve’ after blathering on about how lesters no hitter was nothing to cheer for, equated kennedy’s brain cancer with karma and then wished “the same karma” on bellichick.
i guess that was a different steve, what a coincidence.
Ting Tings?!? People, just download the best of Chic and you’ll be all the better for it.
Big Star = America’s Greatest Widely Unknown Band of All Time.
I second the Indy 4 is bad comment. I was so disappointed when I left the theater at 2:30am this morning. And now I hear that Frank Darabont had a script that Spielberg and everyone loved but Lucas rejected it for that garbage! Oh so sad.
Peter Rabbit, that last.fm thing is kinda creepy (in a fun way). i used to let that keep track of the music i listened to on iTunes, but kind of stopped using my computer as a stereo. i thought some of the suggestions were great. especially when someone recommended something to me and i found it in the suggestions a day or two later…
that movie was great, you’re all crazy
How was that movie great? It’s pushed Temple of Doom to the 2nd worst Indiana movie.
Ham Fighter,,, you’ve got the wrong guy. I’ve been harping about Belichick ever since Peter said it was evil to not for Lester. I actually think Lester’s was quite an achievement, but I think that Jim Abbot’s no hitter was even more impressive. As for Kennedy, this is a baseball site, I dont give a crap about politics.
The Ting-Tings are a buzz band for sure, considering the huge push from iTunes on the site and in the current TV spot, but the album is un-impressive, and I think they are just another buzz band that will fade in a few months. Also tough calling them a band, as it’s just a drummer and a singer with tons of pre-recorded samples when they play live. “That’s Not My Name” is actually a better track than “Shut Up”, but there’s not enough meat in the rest of the release.
your money’s better spent on “i’m amazed,” the new my morning jacket single. they’ve somehow fashioned themselves into a hybrid of every great american band since 1968.
I agree on that regarding my morning jacket. by the way, the opening and the guitar parts on that ting tings song sounds similar to “rapture” by blondie.
Hey Pete –
Big fan of the blog, keep up the good work. You got a nice shout out by Neyer on his blog today in case you haven’t heard.
You’re nuts if you thought forgetting sarah marshall wasn’t funny.

Dont waste your words on Pete and his followers. They cant understand that everything in life isnt black and white. You can be happy for someone but not cheer them on. You can distinguish between a team and an individual. Maybe we should all strive to be just like Pete’s favorite team, the Patriots….Perfect. Oh wait, nevermind.”
not you, steve, b/c i will show that that steve then changed his name, wished cancer on belichick, changed his name again and then admitted it was him later on the thread if you’d like.
the cancer post was one of the most vile things iv written on here and that ‘steve’s’ vitriol basically began after pete called out several ppl for being classless about the lester no no. that steve posted some truly vile and disgusting posts and then tried to deny his own quotes when called out for it.
if its not you, i appologize, but you might want to use a different s.n. from now on to avoid the confusion. if it is you, man up and admit it.
sorry meant one of the most vile things ive read on here…
what does jona hill play? what is his role?
Harold and Kumar 2 was very funny. Especially in the scene where they burn tree with W. Bush.
Great W impersonator.
Highly reccommended. A great follow-up to White Castle!
what is a better movie what happens in veages or made of honer?
My two and a half cents:
In the past 3 years I’ve turned on MTV only a handful of times. One of those times they were actually showing a video – the one for the Ting-Tings song – and I was hooked. Great song. Great video.
I don’t feel at all good about the Lester story. Neither Boston nor the Red Sox need another feel-good story, and my irrational and exuberant hatred for them knows no bounds. To me it’s just another New England team falling just short of perfection. (Although, said friend is a HUGE republican and loved the Kennedy tumor/karma line)
Haven’t seen Sarah Marshall yet, but I’m interested in the fast that the writer/star is pitching a new Muppet movie to the Henson people.
“Although, said friend is a HUGE republican and loved the Kennedy tumor/karma line”
I forgot to add that my Red Sox friend texted me just after Lester’s no-hitter and bragged via e-mail all day Tuesday.
“Outside of Kristen Bell and Mila Kunis in bikinis, there wasn’t much there.”
Yeah…and outside of all the money, A-Rod isn’t really all that rich.
Come on Pete.
Sarah Marshall was awesome…. I’m also a 21 year old kid that has a weird superbad/knocked up type sense of humor – but i liked SM. Pete – 100% agreed with the bikini’s though… very nice lol
This new Kid Rock joint will be a much bigger summer hit than the Ting Tings….

Don’t listen to him Forgetting Sarah Marshall was great.
Um… stick to Baseball. Forgetting Sarah Marshall was great.
Big Star gets some much-deserved love. Let’s not forget the band is primarily Alex Chilton, formerly of…The Box Tops!! Chilton had a long, hard road — some of which you can hear in the last Big Star record — but he made some great music along the way.
Pete’s right about the Ting Tings. But forget downloads. You can get the entire CD via amazon.co.uk…
It’s a keeper. And their live show ain’t bad either — at least the one at SXSW.
song stinks imo
I’m surprised they don’t intentionally walk Cano to pitch to Molina.
That kind of corruption is junior varsity for the city of chicago, but definitely in character…read the Sun-Times about Tony Rezko and his good buddy, the presumptive Democratic nominee…
“Great DJ” by the Ting Tings has been on repeat on Winamp on my computer for a day or two now.
Come on now..Forgetting Sarah Marshall was one of the funniest movies i have seen in a long time. And that british guy was hilarious in it..but regardless LETS GO YANKS
