Pete:
I've just emailed you the link of Alfredo Aceves' debut at Trenton. He had another fine outing.

No way he'll be demoted to Tampa, as Dan said

SJ You say Giese is only a 2 pitch pitcher. He really isn’t suited for starting work at the big league level. Is Hughes just a 2 pitch pitcher. I know his to pitches fastball/curve are much better. But I feel like the reason Phil hasnt been good at the maor league level is because he lacks pitches. Its the fastball or the curve its not hard to know whats coming and crush it.

I think SJ44 has got it right. We have a nice problem in the minors right now, too many starting pitchers. With Karstens returning, Giese somehow transforming himself into the best pitcher in Scranton and Igawa taking up space there, we don't have enough innings to go round. When Horne comes back it'll get worse.

I'd start calling Billy Beane and seeing how much Harden would cost us. Lets turn quantity into quality. I know he is an injury risk but if healthy he is a game winner. If he only pitches 10 regular season innings I don't care, as log as he is healthy come September. Beane has a habit of overvaluing people but if we can make put together a package of pitchers centered around Horne or McCutcheon I'd be willing to make the deal - although it can't include Melancon.

Marc W,

Aceves got promoted to Trenton. Christian Garcia took his spot in Tampa's rotation.

Saw Garcia pitch last night, his offspeed stuff was unhittable. The Daytona Cubs were swinging in the dirt all night.

Chase Wright may be unfairly judged based on 2 bad outings last year.
Nardi Contreras has been working with Wright since spring training and the results are showing.
When Igawa was given a failed start when Kennedy was sent down it was Chase Wright that should have got the call but was it the money issue that took precedent over a win ?

"At some point Chase Wright (6-1, 2.70) has to get a chance at Scranton, no?"

Pete -

Thanks for the heads-up about the Charleston team playing in Lakewood in August. I just check the schedule and we will have just returned from our Baseball/Amusement Park Road trip the day the River Dogs get to town. So, we're going to head out either Saturday or Sunday to catch one of the games.

I just heard Girardi was suspended for his activies last night. Is that true? And do managers usually get suspended in those circumstances?

I think the amount of pitching at AA and AAA is going to NECESSITATE the Yankees deal young pitching away for some pieces this Summer.

I -would- like to see less of 'aging veterans in the last year of their deal' and more ML ready 20-something position players. 1B is a huge need right now. A right-handed starting OFer also. Hopefully Damon's hitting well by the ASB and can be dealt, and see if the Padres'll take Igawa for his contract.
