It all makes perfect sense
Great blog post from Gordon Edes of the Boston Globe:
The Royals just sent Yasuhiko Yabuta into the game to pitch the seventh. His last name is pronounced Yah-BOOT-ah. Teammates call him “Shake.”
Think about it.

Aptly applied to Girardi last night as well…
Any word through your sources about a trade to improve our positional depth… with the gluteny of AAAA pitchers between NY and Scranton – one would think change is near – especially as we enter the mid-third phase of the season (remember Beane’s philo of breaking the season into thirds – First – assess what you have; Second – make the necessary changes; Third – let the chemistry develop and hope you got it right.)
Oh cool, let’s just make this into a Red Sox blog.
I must confess, after a solid minute of thinking about it, I still don’t get it. Somebody clue me in as to why Yabuta somehow lends itself to “Shake”.
JM Gold:
Um, buddy, the guy plays for the Royals, not the Red Sox.
And sometimes, just once in a while, people from newspapers in one city are allowed to write something interesting they find out about a player from another a team in another city. Amazing, I know.
WangFan88: There’s an old song called “Shake Your Booty.”
I love it. I can almost hear KC blaring over the Stadium PA if he comes into a game in NY!!
It’s funny, but only of you really stretch your imagination and pronounce his name wrong. It’s Ya-boo-tah rhymes with Utah. Not Ya-boo-tay, last syllable rhyming with ray.
i’ll admit i didn’t get it. but i’m blaming that on not being able to sleep tonight
I agree, mel.

The song is by K.C. and the Sunshine Band… get it, K.C. Kansas City…
I think Zappa’s album “Sheik Yerbouti” was much more clever
Mike, i didn’t pick up on that part either… nice!
I think its clever and fitting. Knicknames like that can lend some fun.
