Carter is a classless joke. Besides openly criticizing Randolph in the press he calls up his boss & asks for his job. He should be permanently banned from the Major Leagues for eternity.

I like Willie but anything that agitates Mets fans is OK with me.

I grew up with my mother and brother genuflecting toward Flushing (an awful metaphor, but you now what I mean) and sat through too many Yankees-Mets games in Ft. Lauderdale with pots and pans and noisemakers from their classy followers.

Besides, Willie's a Yankee, right? I mean, this is just an asterisk in his career, like when he went to the Dodgers in ’88.

I hope Gary Carter gets the job. That would be awesome (or some other word that begins with the same three letters.)

Wakefield will be fine for Boston (sox fan here, all). He may get shelled for the next 2-3 starts before reeling off 5 for 7+ innings. Knuckle down!

In terms of Harden, he's too big a gamble even at 5 straight starts without injury. IPK would be the logical lead in a trade with another prospect to boot. Not Hughes.

Doreen, I hear what you're saying, and certainly about Willie giving room for that kind of talk when he played the race card this week; but the patter about Willie potentially losing his job "this weekend" has been running a while! And it has been fueled on this blog. Now I confess to being a lot more deliberate when it comes to running with things I see in the press. But the way our posters have been talking about Willie's job being on the line, you have to believe that they have been getting it somewhere. Again, it isn't my mistrust in some of the posters who have been saying it rather than the fact that it just doesn't appeal to my sense of the way things are done; and above all, I don't trust just about ANY stories coming out of papers and especially NY papers! I've been able to see through the sensationalism aspect too many times; slow press day? Let's start a rumor!

What I find most hypocritical in the whole thing is that this is the same cadre of reporters who were weeping bitterly when Joe Girardi supposedly held back on them. Ah so I get it. You want the real scoop so you can be the hero, but you don't mind shading the truth yourselves or even fabricating something as long as it increases your name recognition and the readership of your paper!

And you wonder why most people do not trust reporting to be accurate depictions of the truth

Anyway, I can't blame our posters as much as I do the liars out there who brought them the "story". Again, if Manaya's excursion turns out to be a red herring, I will fall on my proverbial sword. But until then my caution would be that people should believe nothing that they read and only half of what they see!

"This may be optimistic. But the Yankees seem unlikely to ever lose again after mauling Seattle 13-2 last night."

What a pathetic attempt at sarcasm, Peter Abraham. Could you show your bias any more? At least your on the Red Sox side!!

... those two things would be pretty high on my list too. there's been some talk of putting a cape league team in wellfleet down near the harbor. that would be more than awesome.
see you and your wife in june.

Pete, some feedback on your article on the game. It has to describe the great base-running play in the 5th, when Jeter orchestrated a 2nd-3rd situation in that rundown. not only the great baserunning, but the way he waved Abreu over to 3rd as he was in the rundown, made it fascinating to watch.

'twas an important play by a historic player - set up the rest of the inning.

And then there are nuances of this play that as a fan, I'd like to know the baseball player/coach/manager perspectives on. should Beltre have gone for a DP in that situation? did Jeter perhaps break for home to distract Beltre from the DP opportunity, or was he just running on contact? etc.

you're not the only one who omitted it. i didn't see it in the NY Times or ESPN articles on the game - which instead described the rap songs playing in the clubhouse and Ichiro's beer preferences!

The way inside baseball gets omitted from article makes me sometime wonder if sportswriters find baseball games boring? are you all playing quarters or using the binoculars to check out cleavage while the game is going on?

It's just weird - it seems plays like Jeter's are exactly what articles describing games exist for. Fortunately i was watching and YES did a great job of focussing on it; otherwise i'd never have known about this cool play.
