Update on Posada

Peter Abraham
May
30

This from the AP:

Yankees catcher Jorge Posada is scheduled to throw to the bases in a game Saturday for the first time since being sidelined by a sore shoulder on April 27.

Posada, who has been in extended spring training, could rejoin the Yankees next week.

“I just hope everything stays the same and keeps progressing,” Posada said Friday.

Posada went 2-for-5 with a walk as the designated hitter in an extended spring game against Tampa Bay minor leaguers. The five-time All-Star is not sure how many minor league games he will need to test the shoulder.

“We’ll see after tomorrow,” he said. “It’s going to be fine. If it feels good, I’ll progress from that.”

Posada is 6-for-18 with four walks in four extended spring games. He had two singles and an RBI grounder in Friday’s game.

Meanwhile, the Jorge Posada Foundation just sent out this press release:

New York, May 22, 2008 – New York Yankee Jorge Posada and his wife, Laura, have announced that The Jorge Posada Foundation will host its 7th Annual Heroes of Hope Gala on June 16th, 2008 at The Pierre Hotel in New York. This year’s recipient of the Heroes for Hope Award will be Mr. George M. Steinbrenner III.

The event will feature Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos as Masters of Ceremonies, as well as a performance by Kat de Luna.

The Jorge Posada Foundation’s Heroes for Hope Gala raises awareness of Craniosynostosis.

The Foundation aims to provide financial assistance to families with children affected by this condition and offer them emotional support through its Mentors Program. The organization partners with a number of medical centers, helping underwrite a portion of the costs of initial surgeries. The Foundation also strives to create awareness through events and through funding other educational outreach efforts.

Portions of the proceeds from the Gala will benefit the Children’s Craniofacial Association, The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore and the National Foundation for Facial Reconstruction.

There will be an online auction beginning Monday, June 9, 2008 through Tuesday, June 24, 2008 on charitybuzz.com/jorgeposada. The auction includes a live component that will be available to bid through at the event.

Auction bidders can try their luck at winning an experience with actor and comedian Billy Crystal, a round of golf and lunch with comedian George Lopez at Lakeside Golf Course in Toluca Lake, California, tickets to singer Bette Midler’s annual “Hulaween” gala event, and a custom-made Johnny Pag motorcycle signed by players of the New York Yankees. The auction will also feature a VIP trip for six to Sea World Orlando, as well as dozens of other celebrity, travel and sports-themed items.

Past attendee of the Heroes for Hope Gala include: Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Jason Giambi, Tino Martinez, Bernie Williams, and Robinson Cano, among others.

The Jorge Foundation Heroes for Hope Gala is made possible with the support of Budweiser, Continental Airlines, Captivate Networks, The New York Yankees, The Turner Corporation, Johnnie Walker, and Booz Allen Hamilton.

    Mixed feelings…

I want Po back, but I don’t want him to suffer any setbacks.

  2. kd

Can’t wait to get JoPa back. He has a really good effect on the pitchers

  3. Steph

I’m going to be thrilled to have Georgie back…but I will feel bad to see Moeller go again. I doubt he makes it through waivers a second time.

  4. Scorpio

Not bad, very good start for Po’.
Can’t wait till he’s back in the lineup, if we could only take Molina’s arm and attach it to Jorge….

  5. TKinDC

    W Buckner –

Wow, you have a lot of pull in this outfit!

The Posada news is GREAT. He is going to complete our line-up and make us more lefty proof. It is great news for everyone including the pitchers who are going to benefit from a very good receiver/game caller. It is even good news for Molina who is better when used less often.

  6. ham fighter

im very happy that jorge has reached this point, but im taking the go-slow approach. to this point he hasnt thrown full out to try to catch baserunners, which is where he blew it out last time, so tomorrow is a big test and there are no guarantees. ill be keeping my fingers crossed tomorrow.

  7. Laura

Does this mean we’re done talking about Jeter’s love life?

    Sorry – I couldn’t resist.

    :)

  8. Drew

Wonder why George never named one of his kids George IV.

  9. mel

Ugh. Back to the Eli Manning with the cute puppy ad? Bring back the Lace and Stilettos!

  10. GreenBeret7

Thrills are on the way. Umpire Rich Riecker says that instant replay is coming. It’ll start this year in fall leagues, World Baseball Classic and spring training games, next year.

  11. TKinDC

    lmao @ mel!

Maybe we can compromise and have Eli with his new wife on his lap in a “Lace and Stiletto” outfit?

    Best of both worlds!

  12. Scorpio

I was having fun talking about Jete’s girlpals.
Not too impressed with that Minka Kelly. Jessica Alba is his best fling to date. LOL.

    But where’s today’s lineup!?!?

  13. Stacey

Will Tino get a standing ovation?

  14. Steph

Girardi’s still pulling it out of the hat?

  15. mel

    TKinDC,

If the dog is better looking than the star, I don’t see much appeal in that marketing.

I thought the L&S ad was running through the weekend?

  16. TKinDC

Tabata is apparently not too deep in the doghouse, although the details seem sketchy:

  17. mel

Watched Good Luck Chuck the other day. All I could think about through the movie is why did Jeter let J-Alba go?

  18. Drew

mel, bigger question is why would you watch Good Luck Chuck?

  19. GreenBeret7

Is there a problem with adding links to the posts. I’ve tried twice since last night and beither has gone through. Both were sports links. I wasn’t trying to link p0rn sites. I keep those for myself.

“Watched Good Luck Chuck the other day. All I could think about through the movie is why did Jeter let J-Alba go?”

it was the other way around w/ her and Biel just want to correct it.

  21. GreenBeret7

Not only have beither not gotten through, but, neither made it, also.

  22. raymagnetic ®™

    GreenBeret,

A lot of posts which contain legitimate links get stuck in the filter for some reason.

  23. TKinDC

    GB7 –

Try reverse psychology by linking porn sites and see if that works! :)

Seriously – this has happened to me too sometimes. I don’t know what triggers the filter gods to be angry.

  24. Brandon (supporting "Alex being Alex") (J.Santana HR allowed count: 12 )

TK now I wanna kick his a– !

Joba starts Tuesday vs Roy Holliday :D

  25. mel

    Drew,

Not only did I watch it, I cried. It was educational, too. I mean who knew that penguins were monogamous? Or that they bring the shiniest pebble to court the female?

It was funny, but too crude on so many different levels. Wouldn’t watch it again if someone paid me to.

  26. Clare

    Brandon,

Where are you getting the Joba start date from?

  27. GreenBeret7

Well it does contain that 4 letter acronym that tends to upset people (ESPN)

  28. TKinDC

    Brandon -

I assume you mean “Jorge” Tabata?

Was it the play in the field, and altercation in the dugout, both? neither?

  29. Brandon (supporting "Alex being Alex") (J.Santana HR allowed count: 12 )

via Micheal Kay/Mark Feinsand from Joe Girardi

  30. mel

    Brandon,

Even if she left, Jeter could have won her over by bringing here the shiniest pebble on the beach.

I could not care less about Jessica Biel and her fake teeth. Ugly woman.

  31. Laura

Boston has put Dice K on the DL. I don’t think he can walk anyone from there.

  32. Brandon (supporting "Alex being Alex") (J.Santana HR allowed count: 12 )

    “Brandon -

I assume you mean “Jorge” Tabata?

Was it the play in the field, and altercation in the dugout, both? neither?”

love the kid but he needs an a– kicking

  33. TKinDC

“who knew that penguins were monogamous?”

certainly not any of the penguins I’ve been with!

    mel, stop! you’re killing me.

  34. Laura

Not sure I like Joba having his first start against such an accomplished pitcher. Too much pressure for him to succeed.

  35. mel

    GB7,

Posting more than one link in a single post is a no-no. Otherwise it may be getting moderated. Pete says to be patient because otherwise it pisses off the filter.

  36. Brandon (supporting "Alex being Alex") (J.Santana HR allowed count: 12 )

“I could not care less about Jessica Biel and her fake teeth. Ugly woman.”

I’ll choose to agree to disagree :)

  37. Scorpio

Joba vs Halladay? Hmm, not sure I like that. Would have preferred Joba vs Livan. It will be pandemonium come Tues @ the stadium. Joba better pitch like Koufax or he’ll be trashed in the media.

  38. raymagnetic ®™

“Too much pressure for him to succeed.”

Pressure can be good as well. Pressure creates diamonds. :)

  39. mel

Joba wouldn’t have it any other way. He doesn’t need to be babied. What happened to the last pitcher that kills us? We took him to the cleaners. (Bedard? Don’t remember, but you guys were fretting and we hosed him).

  40. GreenBeret7

Mel, it was only the one link that was about Instant Replay starting this year in fall ball, and then next year in the World Baseball Clasic and in spring training. Maybe Pete deleted it so he could “break the story”.

    j/k

  41. TKinDC

“Joba vs Halladay? Hmm, not sure I like that. ”

I’ll take the opposite side. I think if we understand one thing about Joba’s makeup it is that he seems to be an adrenaline fiend :) He seems to be the opposite of IPK in that he does better when there is more pressure on.

    Should be fun to watch!

  42. Laura

Well, ESPN is gonna be disappointed. They have the MON night game and were looking forward to the ratings that Joba’s start would have generated. Maybe they will cover Tuesday as well.

  43. TKinDC

“Boston has put Dice K on the DL. I don’t think he can walk anyone from there.”

Laura – where’d you hear this news? The Almighty Google doesn’t have it.

Are you KGB? or worse, a Patriot employee?

  44. mel

dice-k to dl announced on espnews (tv)

  45. Jim PA

The Sox’s website says Dice K strained a rotator cuff.

  46. Jim PA

A pox on me for going to Boston’s site. Mea Culpa

  47. Mark

  48. mel

    Jim,

    Take a shower.

  49. TKinDC

    Girardi:

“we’re close to getting Posada back” . . . “possibly on Thursday”

    YAHOO!!!!!!!

  50. Brandon (supporting "Alex being Alex") (J.Santana HR allowed count: 12 )

“Carl Pavano, who is rehabbing from surgery to replace an elbow ligament, threw 40 pitches in his latest half-mound session. The right-hander could work off a bullpen mound next week.”

    Igawa dominant

  51. Jeff NJ

Joba to start Tuesday per Girardi.

  52. Clay Buchholz stole my laptop, (aka Joe)

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel that Bob Sheppard is dogging it?

  53. Laura

“Are you KGB? or worse, a Patriot employee?”

None of the above. It was on MLB.com.

  54. TKinDC

    Brandon –

I assumed the Igawa dominant article came from “The Onion”

    http://mobile.theonion.com/content/index

  55. Laura

“Carl Pavano, who is rehabbing from surgery to replace an elbow ligament, threw 40 pitches in his latest half-mound session. The right-hander could work off a bullpen mound next week.”

Why are they even bothering to report on this guy? This is a waste of ink.

  56. Brandon (supporting "Alex being Alex") (J.Santana HR allowed count: 12 )

exactly Laura as you see the link has nothing to do w/ him and TK the link is legit he was ..(clears throat) DOMINANT vs Pawtucket

  57. OldYanksFan

You mean Jeter is too shallow for both Alba and Biel?
