Jason Giambi is finally getting a little good luck and his season has turned around.

Joba Chamberlain’s next appearance hasn’t been scheduled yet. This notebook also has news on Jorge Posada and Bob Sheppard.

Sam Borden was at Shea Stadium last night and wonders whether Mets fans might ultimately miss Joe Torre more than Yankees fans?

The Yankees have to settle on a more athletic, everyday 1st baseman – G cannot throw and his range is very limited in all directions. (Although the man can scoop if the ball is on a straight line to him). G has said in almost every single interview that he hates being a DH. But DH is the best argument for keeping Jason. His bad DH results might be real or might be in his head but every time he says it, he lowers his value as a possible 2009 Yankee and on the FA market.

Ha! I never even thought about how Jason was de-valuing his post-Yankees career by saying he hits worse when he DH’s.

An interesting thing Giambi said the other night was that since his teammates were also getting on base more, the shift when he comes up to bat isn’t as drastic because the other team has to defend the bases, too. So, that has also added to his good luck. But he has shown some more hits going “the other way” and that’s a good thing, too.

A question regarding Sam Borden’s article: Do you think Joe Torre would have jumped into Willie’s spot? I’m not so sure. Plus, had he not been working with the Dodgers, perhaps he’d have been well ensconced in leisurely daddy days with his daughter and no so anxious to return to the cauldron that is NYC sports.

Dan Graziano in the Star Ledger also had an article about Joe Torre this morning, and how he just “doesn’t look right” in Dodger blue. But he would have looked worse in NY Mets “whatever,” imo.

I always thought if there were any difference in Giambi’s offensive #’s at 1B and DH they were more a factor of him playing more 1B when he was healthy and more DH when he wasn’t.

Nice to see torre last night. Makes me miss him but he doesn’t look as stressed to say the least. He did say in a past article that he was happy to be out in LA as the media isn’t putting him on the front or back cover of the sports pages every day – he said the stress level of that was less out there. Good for him.

Did Joe Torre ever look stressed?

They were making such a big deal of Torre returning to New York. I was like it’s nice to see him but ehh I got other things to do.
