RHP Dan Giese was pulled from his start today after one inning and 17 pitches. Thanks to my keen reporting skills, I bet that means he’ll be promoted to the Yankees in the next day or two to fill the long reliever role. He left the clubhouse with his bag packed today.
He is 4-2 with a 1.98 ERA in 13 appearances for Scranton. Giese pitched in eight games for the Giants last season, going 0-2 with a 4.82 ERA.
The man in Scranton, Chad Jennings of the Times-Tribune, talked to Giese today in Rochester.
“It’s nice to be recognized when you’re pitching well,†he said. “You don’t want to pitch here all year and not have a chance to go up. I’ve done that before, and you don’t want to do that. The fact that they’re even considering me to go up there to pitch is a bonus. I’m at a loss for words; I’m just excited. The whole reason I signed over here was to put on the pinstripes.â€
Props to Chad and his paper for following Scranton on the road as often as they do. That’s a lot of commitment for a newspaper and Yankees fans benefit from it. I hope his bosses know how much people appreciate it.
