"Sparky Lyle, a closer in a different era, wrote that he couldn’t perform well when not in a closers’ situation (slim lead to protect)."

You're cherry picking here. A tie game is still a high leverage situation--if a guy has the mindset to protect a one run lead, he has the mindset to hold a tie (pitchers, even Mo, aren't perfect--as this weekend showed).

When relievers talk about pitching in non-save situations, its usually about pitching in situations that aren't high leverage--then I guess some of the competitive edge disappears (except for Billy Wagner, who knows what his deal it).

I wouldnt do the deal im simply posted what idiot Sherman wrote. I dont think the yankees need to make a deal just yet. I think that they can fix the pen in house. With the addition of a RP at the trading deadline. Nothing crazy maybe a Fuentes.

he’s only third in the league in batting average and has been one of, if not our best clutch hitter to this point in the season.

Igawa's teeth all your getting in that deal is Jonathan Sanchez, I sure as hell wouldn't and I'd love him on this team. Although if they add say Brian Wilson I'd listen.

No, there is no way I do that trade. I didnt read that Tabata and Gonzalez were involved.

What I meant was that if we were going to trade a big name player, even though he is hitting, I think the obvious and best choice would be Matsui.

However, that is contingent on what we would be receiving in return.

Dr.Cox who are you trading Matsui for? Sherman says he would trade Matsui, Tabata and Alberto Gonzalez for Sanchez and Randy Winn. Do you do that trade?
