Two Yankee picks in CWS

Two of the players drafted by the Yankees will participate in the College World Series.

Lefty Jeremy Bleich will be in the rotation for Stanford. He was the No. 44 pick overall.

Florida State right fielder Jack Rye (14th round) is a senior who will likely sign shortly after his season is over. He is at .381/.486/.543 for the Seminoles. Rye hits cleanup behind Buster Posey. He homered and drove in three runs in Sunday’s Super Regional win.

Hopefully the Yankees will keep us informed as they sign players.

Rye hit a HR last night and drove in 3 RBI, I’m torn between who I cheer for here :?

    Pete,

Is there any word on the make up game with the Mets? It looks like Fox has the Saturday game at 4:00P. That would seem like not enough time for a stadium to stadium doubleheader like the one several years ago. Sunday, the start time at Shea is 1:05. That would make a 7:05 start time at the stadium doable.

Anyway, I have tix from the rainout. Any update would be greatly appreciated.

When the eighth inning rolled around yesterday, Girardi went not to Kyle Farnsworth, as expected, but to right-hander Jose Veras. Farnsworth had complained of some discomfort in his right biceps on Saturday.

“His biceps was a little cranky, his muscle,” Girardi said. “Sometimes that’s just a little fatigue.”

Farnsworth pitched on back-to-back days last week, then warmed up but did not pitch on Friday. He said he was available to pitch yesterday but Girardi held him out “just to make sure he’s fine.

    now that is funny …

Those are pretty decent numbers for Rye.

Why did he fall all the way to the 14th round? (is he a tweener? too small? too slow?).

Most likely that makeup game with the Mets will be on Friday, June 27, a 1:00 game at YS. THen they’ll travel to Shea for the regularly scheduled 7:05 game at Shea that night.

Rye is a very good college player. This year he’s posted excellent numbers .381 7 52 and hit double digit HR the last two years. He reminds me a bit of Paul O’Neil in that he is more of a gap power guy than a HR hitter. He has above average speed and arm and is very competitive guy. I don’t pretend to have a strong feel for his long range potential, but he’s an accomplished player who would probably do well in AA ball pretty quickly.

No problem who to root for in the Stanford/FSU game. Yankedes need a stud LH pitcher a lot more than they need another LH hitting outfielder. Go Stanford and go Jeremy Bleich.
