Hurlers take their hacks
The Yankee pitchers are on the field at McAfee Coliseum taking batting practice in preparation for the interleague road games coming up.
The starters this weekend in Houston – Joba Chamberlain, Mike Mussina and Chien-Ming Wang – are a career 8 for 55 (.145). One guess who has all eight hits.
Young pitchers, in some cases, get to the big leagues having never swung a bat. The National League is the only league in the world without the DH. In the minors, the only time pitchers hit is when two National League teams play each other.

Moose is my guess
The DH is an abomination.
What is the Moose’s career batting avg.?
got to be Moose
Joba has probably never batted adn CMW has only been in the league for like two and a half years while Mussina has pitched for over 17 years. Kinda obvious unless Mussina really never pitched against the NL or just never ever got a hit altough every pitcher had to have gotten a hit some tiem.
“In the minors, the only times pitchers hit is when two National League teams play each other.”
And that’s only in AAA and AA. Everything lower is all-DH, all the time.
I did hear Joba say he was a great hitter. Was he kidding?
joba was a slugger in high school and college.
On “YESterdays” Joba was saying that he is a great hitter and that pitching came after. I am looking forward to seeing him at bat on Friday.
“The DH is an abomination.”
Agreed. The experiment has run its course and should be terminated.
Pete be sure to tell Mike that the pitcher bats 9th, that if he gets to the 8th place hitter he can pitch around him and try for the pitcher.
Last year he forgot.
I know no one cares, but let me add that Japan’s Central League (the league that Matsui and Igawa are from) also does not have a DH. And I must say baseball is better without a DH.
The DH is great – better offense, better game. Love it.
