A’s go the other way; Yankees run in place

Darrell Rasner gave up nine hits and five were to the opposite field. Oakland had a team-wide approach and it was to sit on his fastball away and hammer it. Rasner never really established his four-seamer inside.

The Yankees are back at .500 for the 23rd time. One step up, one step back.

“You can’t get caught up in saying we have a lot of games left. But we do,” Derek Jeter said. “We’re consistently inconsistent. That’s the best way to put it. We have a good team but we have to go out and find more ways to win games.”

Consistently inconsistent. That’s a good way to put it.

    Pete,

Do you get the feeling that front office is ready to make some moves?? Any chance to make a deal with the Cubs and ship Cabrera or Damon out – with Soriano’s injury? allowing Gardner a full time opp and much needed spark (we’ll take Hill off the Cubbies hands). Also when does phase 3 of bullpen makeover take place?

it’s in fact the best way to put it

Right now Cashman is sleeping, I mean how else does a fireballing lefty get cleared through waivers w/o even a minor league tryout contract.
    sleeping on the job !

why is everyone so obsessed w. Gardner.. if he is this good, he wouldve gotten a shot already and Melky would be a Twin. Melky is fine, stop putting the blame on Melky and Cano. It’s not Melky’s fault pitching isnt doing crap..

I am in love with giving Gardner a chance to be a pinch runner. these other people think all prospects are going to make it, I just would settle for a late inning base stealer to start.

Jeter our captain has 17 Extra base hits and a slugging % that alavara espinosa could match. it is fred stanley like…

man Jeter offensively has been brutal

Why are we in love with Gardner – because he is a offensive firecracker by himself… he can take a walk and make it a triple… he can play CF better than Melk man (save arm) and definitely handle the line drive right at him.

This team plays station to station and you need to pressure the defense and get everyone excited… Gardner is your prototypical leadoff guy and his stats show improvement in the power dept as well…

That’s why we want a full time opp for him… and no he wasn’t ready before June – hence the nix on previous Melk man trades (although I’d trade Damon first)

u make no sense, Gardner is doing pretty good in AAA! Igawa does good in AAA, KEnnedy does good in AAA.. Come on.. Obviouslly Gardner isnt up for a reason. ill put money on it, last year you were all about melky. but ure puttin all the blame on a 23 year old kid! get a life

I’m glad your not the GM…Damon has been the best player lately

  9. Igawa's buck teeth (Stop the Robby Cano trade talk) June 12th, 2008 at 3:27 am

Gardner has an ok arm it isnt even close to Melkys… Melky is a better hitter than Gardner he has much more power… The only thing Gardner has is speed over Melky but its not like Melky is slow… My point is the Yankees arent going to bring Gardner up to sit the bench… He needs to stay in AAA for now so that he can keep playing everyday.

So Pete- you like Jeter’s “consistently inconsistent” remark?…That’s the trademark of mediocrity..Yanks have been headed that way for years, or havn’t you noticed the “inconsistent” pitching, hitting, fielding, base running, bench performances for years?…You think passing up on Manny and Bartolo were good moves by this so called GM ? Think a Red Sox lineup without these two would be in 1st place??

I think it is time we as Yankees fan need to realize, this team is what it is. Before the season started a lot of people on here loved our bench. They had a good feeling about our pitching as I did. We might have a 200 mil dollar payroll but we are a .500 team. Can it be fixed? Yes. The one thing that really gets me going is when I read people on this blog saying “Its early” got a lot of season left. Yes it is early, but are you watching this team? Week after week I hear this and nothing looks like this team is about to break out of this funk. Just frustrating

Filip Bondy had a great article in the Daily News on Wednesday. Its time for a major overhaul with the Yanks.

Rasner looked like Mussina last year, completely unwilling to throw his fastball inside and getting bloodied by opposite field hits. That’s not like him and hopefully won’t be repeated.

Am I the only one who saw Giambi botch that play in the first and start thiking about Mark Teixiera?

Would be a good time to see if the Cubs would overpay for an outfielder…
