Rest in peace, Tim Russert

Peter Abraham
June
13

Just got to Minute Maid Park and heard the news that NBC’s Tim Russert has died.

Russert was a tremendous baseball fan who was at RFK Stadium to see the Yankees when they played there a few years ago. What a shame.

UPDATE, 4:56 p.m.: Here’s a statement from George Steinbrenner:

“I join millions of others in mourning Tim’s passing. He loved the game of baseball and was a true friend of the Yankees and mine. Tim always batted in the cleanup spot for the media and always hit for the fences. May God bless him and his family.”

Tseng, was in the last thread.

I think TMZ had it first. But yeah, the point is, it’s really sad. RIP

He was far, far too young. 58. Wow. They said he collapsed. It was a heart attack. It just makes you even more aware of how fragile we all are.

    RIP, Tim.

  20. bottom line

In my opinion, a towering giant in a field swarming with midgets and nitwits. With his intelligence, fair-mindedness and willingness to assert common sense over the fashionable and trendy pseudo-thinking that permeates so much of the electronic media, Tim Russert always stood out. I guess the good do die young.

Rest in peace Tim. Great journalist and seemed like a truly fine person. I always loved to listen to him, no sugar coating just the facts, and he wasn’t afraid of asking any question to anyone.

  25. Patrick Bateman

That Howard Rubenstein is a great writer.

  26. OldYanksFan

    Bottom Line… VERY well said.
In a country where less and less real news is reported, he will be sorely missed. He was a GREAT reporter in a pool of so very few. Condolences to his family.

I loved Tim Russert. I would reccomend his boo Big Russ and me to anyone in their 50’s…as a Catholic..it was like he was writing of my own family.

He was one of the best…God bless him.

  36. Dorothy Rose

I Loved Tim Russerts zeal and spirit. He was a gentle giant and our World was so much better with Tim here. Tim tried every day to improve our Political World;keeping the liars and crooks at bay and trying to get them exposed as well as getting the answer from all politicians to solving our hugh problems. He was a wonderful personality;I could see a wonderful spirit in Tim and loved his smile what a handsome and beautiful spirit. I’ll miss his every show appearance ; I looked forward to Tim Eveyday. 38. Dorothy Rose

To everyone At NBC and the other journalists, take better care of yourselves, and work a little less than Tim Russert did,and you may be alive much beyond 58 years

  39. Dorothy Rose

For Tim Russert Go Buffalo Bills!!!!!!

  40. carol, syracuse

Tim’s sudden death is a tragedy, he was truly one of the few
respectable and decent people in Washington. He will be greatly missed. Meet the Press was the program I so looked forward to every Sunday, Tim had a humane way about him and
you would always go away knowing exactly what he intended the viewers to learn. My sympathy goes out to all he touched
    through out his life.
