Wolfe would be a nice short term solution. Harden and C.C. would be great only if the price is right.

I know I'm late on this, but my $0.02 is absolutely not on Harden. Don't do deals with Beane, period. Let some other GM get raped. Sabathia, no, because of the same reasons I spent an hour in here debating yesterday :) Combo of $, years and talent surrendered will be much too much. Freddy Garcia I guess we could give a try if we could get him with no strings attatched, but even before surgery, when is the last time he actually pitched well? Randy Wolf I was about to say maybe b/c he pitched in the Philly Shoebox, which is not really THAT different from pitching in the AL, but then I saw his numbers there, and...no.

None of these options are very appealing IMO...I was thinking Aaron Cook as 08 was originally his option year but just saw on Cot's that they extended him through 2012. Damn. I guess I'd go with Garcia too, albeit with trepidation.

short of igawa, i would trade nobody for arroyo. Wolf has inflated stats at SD. Oswalt is not coming to NY (plus we just punished him). We might as well throw garcia a bit of money and test him out in the minors, money is one thing we will always have. And harden could also be worth the price if he continues to avoid injury

I'd say you can narrow your short term options. They're definitely NOT going to use McCutchen (too early, will have just pitched on the 20th OR he'd be pitching on too much rest, they're not going to mess with the young guys routine) or Igawa (there's just no need for that disaster again, its getting embarrassing for the yanks).

Here's what they WILL MOST LIKELY do....pitch pettitte on short rest IF Giese and Ohlie can be available for relief (obviously they limit his previous start on the 17th)...

OR bring in Marquez (lots of innings and recently improving) or Karstens (not stellar numbers, but has the experience). They are both already on the 40 man roster.
