Chien-Ming Wang has what appears to be a serious foot injury and could be out the rest of the season.
Meanwhile, the Yankees hammered the Astros for their fourth straight win.

Maury Brown and the Biz of Baseball got together a group of writers, bloggers and team execs to give their opinions on the state of the game.
There are some interesting takes. So check it out.
As for Chien-Ming Wang, when I get the news, you’ll get the news.

Pete,
Thanks for the link to the roundtable. The outlook is cheery indeed.
The only major problem is the commissioner, himself. He and others (Kenny Rosenthal!) think that he’s personally responsible for the record attendance and bulging coffers. Hogwash! A monkey could do the job (and wouldn’t have spent millions on a steroids report that has had little credibility or impact).
Why is baseball so successful at a time when fans are dying off as you so blatantly pointed out?
-The internet (instant, round-the-clock access to highlights, game results, and bloggin’)
-Young stars (the Uptons and the Chamberlains of the league)
-the Yankees and the Red Sox (moreso the Yankees, they’ll long be baseball royalty) always creating a buzz.
-parity
-the Wild Card (assist to Selig on that one)
I’m sure others will chime in with more reasons. Football and my personal favorite NBA both fight for our attention, but baseball has its share of passionate fans. Thanks for stoking the flames, Pete. Good stuff as always.
It sounds like a lisfranc joint fracture dislocation which is characterized by marked swelling, tarsometatarsal joint tenderness and the inability to bear weight.
That’s a tough injury for a pitcher’s landing foot. A horrible break for Wang and the Yankees. He could easily be out until next summer.
People are going to start to appreciate Wang a little more when he’s not there to take the ball every 5th day. At least they have 6 weeks to find out exactly what kind of quality starting pitching depth they have in the minors before the trading deadline. This is still going to hurt their chances to make the playoffs.
Get well CMW. You’ll be missed.
Peter:
Thank you very much!
Hope that Wang will come back earlier!
Simply put, Wang is not built to play in a NL game. Last year in the AT&T park, he was a different pitcher from the third inning after his first at bat. Wang needs to learn that he should protect himself at any cost. Don’t slide, run the corner, and swing. Too much is at the stake.
Pete, the run cost huge and we couldn’t live without CMW.
Please keep us informed of any development, or our market will never rebound.
If people think that Cashman is going to push the panic button and trade for Sabathia – they haven’t really been paying attention the past year.
Cashman refused to part with Joba Chamberlain is a deal to the Rangers for Mark Teixeira last season before the deadline. I think that non-deal worked out pretty well for the Yanks.
He also refused to part with Kennedy and Melky Cabrera is a deal for Eric Gagne. That one worked out pretty well too since Gagne was a total bust with the Red Sox.
Cashman then refused to include any of these players in a deal for Johan Santana over the offseason: Hughes, Kennedy, Wang, Cano, Joba, or Cabrera
Based on what we’ve witnessed the past year – do you really think Cashman is now going to panic and deal some of these young kids for a free-agent-to-be like Sabathia?
Don’t bet on it.
Obviously, losing Wang for such a long time is really going to suck. But it doesn’t make sense to panic and make moves out of desperation to save one season.
Cahsman has showed time and time again there’s a long term plan in place to rebuild from within and that’s exactly what he’s going to continue to do regardless what the knee jerk fans think.
It’s not going to happen. They’ll find another way to replace Wang in the rotation.
Good quotes from Hank in this one. Love that he says he has been watching Moyer and NMoose for “15 freaking years” lol

Neither Biz of Baseball links work. All others that I’ve tried do. This sounds like an interesting story.
