Cashman refused to part with Joba Chamberlain is a deal to the Rangers for Mark Teixeira last season before the deadline. I think that non-deal worked out pretty well for the Yanks.

He also refused to part with Kennedy and Melky Cabrera is a deal for Eric Gagne. That one worked out pretty well too since Gagne was a total bust with the Red Sox.

Cashman then refused to include any of these players in a deal for Johan Santana over the offseason: Hughes, Kennedy, Wang, Cano, Joba, or Cabrera

Based on what we’ve witnessed the past year – do you really think Cashman is now going to panic and deal some of these young kids for a free-agent-to-be like Sabathia?

Don’t bet on it.

Obviously, losing Wang for such a long time is really going to suck. But it doesn’t make sense to panic and make moves out of desperation to save one season.

Cahsman has showed time and time again there’s a long term plan in place to rebuild from within and that’s exactly what he’s going to continue to do regardless what the knee jerk fans think.

It’s not going to happen. They’ll find another way to replace Wang in the rotation.

That’s a tough injury for a pitcher’s landing foot. A horrible break for Wang and the Yankees. He could easily be out until next summer.

People are going to start to appreciate Wang a little more when he’s not there to take the ball every 5th day. At least they have 6 weeks to find out exactly what kind of quality starting pitching depth they have in the minors before the trading deadline. This is still going to hurt their chances to make the playoffs.

The only major problem is the commissioner, himself. He and others (Kenny Rosenthal!) think that he’s personally responsible for the record attendance and bulging coffers. Hogwash! A monkey could do the job (and wouldn’t have spent millions on a steroids report that has had little credibility or impact).

Why is baseball so successful at a time when fans are dying off as you so blatantly pointed out?

-The internet (instant, round-the-clock access to highlights, game results, and bloggin’)
-Young stars (the Uptons and the Chamberlains of the league)
-the Yankees and the Red Sox (moreso the Yankees, they’ll long be baseball royalty) always creating a buzz.
-parity
-the Wild Card (assist to Selig on that one)

I’m sure others will chime in with more reasons. Football and my personal favorite NBA both fight for our attention, but baseball has its share of passionate fans. Thanks for stoking the flames, Pete. Good stuff as always.
