I just have to chime in here, been reading and loving Pete's blog for months now and while I don't always agree with him, I always respect his opinion. But bashing on Freddy makes no sense. Lots of people come to the games not only to watch baseball, but also to experience Yankee Stadium, which includes Monument Park and the facade, but also includes silly things like the great city subway race and Freddy. Pete's right - it's New York, not Arkansas - which means we need more than just another baseball team, we want the things that only NY has. Freddy is a NY landmark (possibly literally). When I took my son to his first game this year and he got to bang the pan with a spoon, he loved it and so did my wife. Personally, I could care less as long as the Yanks won. There's room for all kinds of fans. Lighten up Pete. I mean, "... the new Stadium needs to have a moat filled with giant snakes. That way they’ll have someplace to throw the guy who bangs on the pan." Wow.

Wow, bold move Pete - ripping Freddy. The guy is about 100 years old and is at every game walking the upper deck. He sits outside the Stadium before the game. He would be a good guy for you to talk to as he has seen a lot of baseball in this park.

For the record, I advocated for signing Livan Hernandez AND starting the kids before the season started and was practically laughed off this forum.

If Freddie is such a bad thing, then why do folks, especially kids, clamor to hit the pan? Pretty sad if there's no room for some very simple enjoyment at the ballpark. Maybe the suits that take over my season tickets when I'm priced out of the new Stadium will agree with Pete and toss Freddie.

I'm amazed at how many of you "fans" thought that Freddie bangs this pan with reckless abandon throughout the game. He passes it around for luck. Shame on all of you that can't put up with a little noise during the game from a guy who is passionate about the team he loves to watch.

He's a staple at the stadium. Pete just hates him because it distracts him from thinking of his next Girardi bashing post. Either that or he's a little jealous that Freddie gets in for free but doesn't have to submit a piece.

Shocking that the guy who has people bang on a pan so loudly that people can hear it from 10 sections away (and even on TV) has hearing loss.

I'm supposed to show respect for this? He's done it to himself. That's his choice. But don't act like he's a war hero or something.

He sounds like a nice guy. But I don't get the hero worship.

Do you not know FreddySez? Show some respect. By the way, Freddy is going deaf from his pan activities.

Randy:

The teams W-L record in games started by a pitcher are completely meaningless. You have no idea how they won. Or lost.

The twins won a game in which Livan gave up 8 flippin runs. Did he 'keep them in the game'? HELL NO, THEY bailed him out, and the team out.

Darrel Rasner has a couple losses in which he gave up 1 ER and 2 ER, well I guess Livan would have been better because he'd have given up 10 ER, but the yankees would have been energized seeing all the opposing players wear themselves out running the bases that they'd come back and score 11!

"Ponson has been more effective than hernandez this year while averaging more innings."

you know you're right.

ponson is about 6.10 innings per start and livan is a little above 6.00 per start.

well it just goes to show that these kind of veterans at least pitch into the 7th inning.

to be continued...

( unless livan gets hammered in his next start )
( then it will be to be continued another time)
