  1. jennifer- I got your back Girardi

Dan Giese was just on wfan. Sounded like a really nice guy. Type of guy you’d love to root for. Hopefully he continues to do well!

  2. YanksAngel

Time for Andy to play the role of stopper again.

I’m not in NY, so for anyone who is, what’s the weather like? Any chance of a rain delay? Trying to decide whether I want to stay up and watch or catch the archive.

  3. jennifer- I got your back Girardi

hmmm my first post didn’t show up.

Dan Giese was just on the radio. Sounded like a really nice guy, the kind you want to root for.

  4. Matt

Bench Cano, I will not forgive him for swinging at the first pitch yesterday with the bases loaded and popping out to the catcher.

This guy is out to lunch 24/7.

  5. Fran

Hope that the Yankee bats show up today. They need to take at least one from Cincinnati.

  7. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Could really use a Yankee win today. At least I’m not going to the game though, so they have a reasonable shot!

  8. jennifer- I got your back Girardi

Well it is raining at the moment, light rain, i’d think they’d play through it since it is the only time the Reds come in.

  9. Glenn

I suggest that you’re not any kind of curse Rebecca, just a victim of bad timing.
What goes around comes around still applies.

  10. Barry - acigarsmoker.com

    Angel-

It’s overcast and windy right now.. rain is expected later today, but they should (i hope) get the game in without delay.

  11. JC - These Yankees are making me thirsty!

Come on bats – lets get it going for all the guys like me, down under staying up until the small hours.

I’m predicting 7 strong innings from Andy and the bottom half to deliver… ever the optimist!

  12. YanksAngel

    Thanks Jennifer

  13. YanksAngel

    and Barry :)

  14. YanksAngel

    JC where are you?

  15. jennifer- I got your back Girardi

No longer raining, I think you should be okay. There might be a shower coming through during the game, but they’ll still play.

  16. JC - These Yankees are making me thirsty!

    Yanks Angel

North Sydney…. Officially the windiest, baseball deserted place in the world. And you?

  17. Russell NY

Melky Cabrera is 3 for 22 in his last six games

    BREETTTTTTT GARDENERENERERERERERRRRRRR

  18. jennifer- I got your back Girardi

Bobby also hasn’t hit too much since he hit the Twins pitcher in the head.

  19. Zach in Port Jeff

    JC,

if you’re feeling a bit energetic, there are a couple of decent baseball clubs around Sydney and the Sydney suburbs. During my student days in Melbourne, we used to spend many weekends duking it out with SydneyUni. It’s not quite the major leagues, but some decent competition.

  20. BBP

I would recommend the lineup could be like this

    1.Damon(L)-(.327/.395/.486)
    2.Posada(SW)-(.303/.389/.489)
    3.Matsui(L)-(.324/.406/.462)
    4.Rodriguez®-(.333/.413/.463)
    5.Giambi(L)-(.260/.394/.564)
    6.Jeter®-(.278/.333/.379)
    7.Abreu(L)-(.270/.333/.432)
    8.Cabrera(SW)-(.253/.312/.372)
    9.Cano(L)-(.229/.273/.327)

We need RISP and we need more scores.

  21. Yankee Trader

“Johnny Cueto has never faced any of the New York hitters”
Should read , None of the New York hitters have faced Johnny Cueto, and that spells trouble for the Yankees!
They would be better off facing the Santanas, Peavy’s, Webbs, Sabathia’s, etc than these pitchers they’ve never seen. What is it with this fact?

Yankees have forgotten how to sacrifice runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Thinking all the time hit the ball hard and hope it’s a homer! When they were successful in 96, they played a NL brand of baseball.

Now we see Mussina pitching effectively, Giambi doing better, Farnsworth improving and what worries me here is that the Yankees will resign these players, when their bloated contracts are done this fall!

I’d like to be optimistic, but if they’re lucky to make the playoffs, I don’t see them advancing to the World Series.

  22. JC - These Yankees are making me thirsty!

    Marvellous work Zach

I appreciate that but I’m almost fully converted into the Australian sporting lifestyle now… i.e. I’ve given up every other sport in favour of Golf and late starts to the working day!

    Thanks again

  23. Josh

Im running out of patience with melky.. i really wanna see what gardner can do

  24. Yankee Trader

BBP-Why not try that lineup. Girardi has tried new lineups until lately almost every day!

  25. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Oh shush. Last year we lost two games to the Giants and got swept by the Rockies and still made the playofffs.

    Thundering here.

  26. V

“Bench Cano, I will not forgive him for swinging at the first pitch yesterday with the bases loaded and popping out to the catcher.

This guy is out to lunch 24/7.”

Yes, bench Cano, he of the .364/.417/.455 line in his last 7 games (including his 0/4 yesterday). WHAT A BUM!

(sarcasm) I think they should DFA Abreu and bring up Brett Gardner to play RF, that’s what the Yankees need.

  27. YanksAngel

JC – I’m in Melbourne, well just outside of Melbourne. Been here for 6 years. I grew up in Alabama, in the same town Robert Horry is from, but my husband was born here and we moved here to be closer to his family. That goodness for MLB.TV because they sure don’t show enough basbeball games on TV here.

  28. whozat

“Yankees have forgotten how to sacrifice runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Thinking all the time hit the ball hard and hope it’s a homer! When they were successful in 96, they played a NL brand of baseball.”

Thinking “hit the ball hard” is exactly what they should be doing. Sacrifice bunts are stupid unless you’re playing for one run very late in the game and have a poor hitter at the plate.

  29. Zach in Port Jeff

“I appreciate that but I’m almost fully converted into the Australian sporting lifestyle now… i.e. I’ve given up every other sport in favour of Golf and late starts to the working day!”

Aaaaahhhh…Nothing like waking up at midday and watching some local domestic cricket on Channel 9. Before you know it, its 7 hours later, you’re drunk on the couch, and there is an advertisement on television with some dude screaming at you to come down to the Sydney Exhibition Centre to buy some carpets.

    good times!

  30. Yankee Trader

Sacrifice bunts are not stupid, when your team sucks at delivering with RISP!

  31. V

“Yankees have forgotten how to sacrifice runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Thinking all the time hit the ball hard and hope it’s a homer! When they were successful in 96, they played a NL brand of baseball.”

The 1996 Yankees had 41 sacrifice hits in 162 games. That’s hardly a lot.

In a close game? Yeah, it has its place, but wasting outs is usually a bad idea.

That National League style of play is largely due to the pitcher’s spot being a black hole.

  32. V

“Sacrifice bunts are not stupid, when your team sucks at delivering with RISP!”

How does wasting a chance to hit with RISP (man on 2nd) by giving up an out to get another chance to hit with RISP supposed to improve your hitting with RISP?

  33. whozat

“How does wasting a chance to hit with RISP (man on 2nd) by giving up an out to get another chance to hit with RISP supposed to improve your hitting with RISP?”

Because Joe Morgan says it’s good, and he was on the Big Red Machine.

  34. YanksAngel

    Zach

I’ve yet to make it through watching cricket. Tried twice and literally fell asleep on the couch

  35. randy l

it has been pointed out by some of our knowledgeable posters that brian cashman has changed the latin american scouting situation since he took over full control of the team, but i have to say i notice quite a difference in the three cincy starters from our young starters.

the red have started three young pitchers of color in a row( with thompson being from maryland). even given the time it takes to turn around the system, is cashman focusing to much on southern cal, fla, and texas .

i’m not making a racial point here, but a point of where scouting is being focused.

is damon oppenheimer, being a so cal product, focusing too much on that area?

is he ( even though it’s said to be better since cashman too over) focusing enough on latin america for starting pitchers?

i say this because cano, melky, tabata, and montero are offensive players we know of. montero was signed for two million. why no starters? has this kind of money been spent on starting pitchers in latin america?

something seems askew to me that simply saying it takes time to develop 16 year olds doesn’t explain. we hear of tabata and montero.

we’re not hearing of any equivalent latin american starting pitchingin the yankee system.

maybe it’s just an anomaly or maybe the yankees aren’t doing a good job in latin america scouting starting pitchers.

if cincinnati can do it surely the yankees can.

  36. Yankee Trader

Okay V and Whozat- You’ve convinced me. Does someone know where we rank in the AL with RISP and 0 outs, 1 out, two outs?

  37. Zach in Port Jeff

    YanksAngel,

you have to make sure you adequately supplied to enough cheap local beer to make it through an entire game…Victoria Bitter wont do. You have to go cheaper. I’m talking Melbourne Bitter. The combination of a 12 pack of Melbourne Bitter and a blazing hot 40 degree day always did the trick for me.

ps…what part of Melbourne are you in? I work for a firm based out of Fitzroy, but based in New York now, so I only get to pop into Melbourne a few times a year nowadays. Just enough time to get my fix of good coffee.

  38. bru

trade kennedy, cano, melky and 2 prospects for sabathia and grady sizemore.next year they could have sabathia, wang, joba 1,2,3 with hughes, sanchez, mcutchen, horne, aceves, pettitte, moose and brackman possibly at the end of 2009 or in 2010.gardner 4th outfielder or ajax, get a real first baseman or move posada there or montero.

  39. mikethemike

anyone know who the yanks are going to pitch on the Friday afternoon game at home against the Mets ?

  40. randy l

” Sacrifice bunts are stupid unless you’re playing for one run very late in the game and have a poor hitter at the plate.”

sacrifice bunts are really stupid when the hitter can’t bunt well, and that is almost everyone on the yankees.

the twins can use the sacrifice bunt more often because everyone in the organization learns how to bunt. if the yankees don’t teach it in the system, how is the manager supposed to use it?

  41. risp say's

let hope dem yankee hitters can bring me in today… i hat being stranded

  42. jennifer- I got your back Girardi

    Probably Sir Ponson.

  43. Westerner99

Am at game in 31. Great day for a ballgame if the weather holds. Rodriguez looked scary good in bp!

  44. Fran

mikethemike – it hasn’t been announced yet. Only that Giese will pitch one of the 2 games on Friday.

  45. YanksAngel

    Zach

We live in Caroline Springs but I used to work in Kew, not far from Fitzroy.

Oh, and I can stand the Australian beer even less than the cricket.

Australian Rules Footy is a different story, I’ve gotten into it, but the cricket is a lost cause to me

  46. BBP

mikethemike – Sidney Ponson(Day Game), Dan Giese(Night Game)

  47. whozat

“if cincinnati can do it surely the yankees can.”

Cincy didn’t scout and sign Volquez. Thompson was, as you admitted, an American draft pick. There’s a lot more white kids in America that play baseball than any other ethnic group. So…when you go to draft the best available talent when your turn comes up…it’ll probably be a white kid.

They missed on king felix in 04. They changed their approach after that. None of those kids have gotten past A ball yet. Because, mostly, they were 16 or 17 when drafted. There’s not some systematic ignorance of Latin American players or other players of color. Most 18 year olds NEVER make the bigs, especially pitchers. Trying to prod any meaning out of the fact that the Yanks don’t, currently, have any super-promising black or latino starting pitchers in AAA or the bigs is just pointless when they only really committed to Latin American scouting 3 or 4 years ago.

Jairo Heredia, real young latin american kid in A ball. Chris Garcia is another minority pitcher with great stuff—-but he just can’t stay healthy and has work ethic problems.

  48. Ryan

Randy, go back two posts and I think you’ll find your latin american pitcher that everyone is fawning over.

  49. mikethemike

ok thanks for the info on the friday day game starter

  50. whozat

“They missed on king felix in 04. ”

And it’s not that they didn’t know about him; they did. They just didn’t put in the time/money to convince him to sign with them. I mean, these kids get to choose. You can’t underestimate how important finding them early and building a personal connection with them is. Having only recommitted to doing this sort of thing 3-4 years ago, it is unsurprising that no MLB or AAA level fruit has yet been borne.

  51. SJ44

Not hitting with RISP is not a Cano or Cabrera problem. Its been a teamwide problem all season.

Abreu is slumping. Giambi is hitting under .200 with RISP. Jeter is hitting under .200 with RISP since Cabrera smashed his hand with a pitch.

The only guys in the lineup hitting with RISP are Damon and Arod.

Unfortunately the Yankees, like every team in MLB, don’t have enough players in AAA to replace guys who are slumping.

Brett Gardner? He just ended a 3-40 slump with 3 hits last night. I hardly think his cold bat is an upgrade over Cabrera’s at this time.

Like all veteran teams, you have to hit your way out of your slumps. Its the only option the Yankees have at this time.

    Randy,

The Yankees have spent a ton of money the last few years in Latin America. Not just on pitching but, also with position players.

Those results won’t be known for at least 2-3 more years because most of the kids signed were between the ages of 15-17 years old.

  52. whozat

“Randy, go back two posts and I think you’ll find your latin american pitcher that everyone is fawning over.”

Aceves is a mexican league vet with great pitchability and middling stuff. He’s not the kind of guy Randy’s talking about.

  53. michael

why people come down on giambi as “not a real first basemen” is beyond me. he’s in the top two most productive first baseman in the league. leave your biases behind!

  54. Blargh

Brandon (whenever you get here): hear anything lately from Inoa’s camp?

  55. BX. 12 Fordham Road

JC….used to live in Kirribilli myself….

  56. risp say's

i sat in 32 very good seats!

  57. Bring Gardner Up

I think its almost time to make a move for CC. Dont wanna wait too long or he will be gone, or the price will go up. He is starting to look like a CY Young again, and we could really use him down the stretch. Not to mention they wouldnt want Hughes since he will be sitting until August. Hes a half year rental which means they wont ask for too much. We really dont need Rasner anymore, Its Giese’ turn to give the rotation a try. Not that a trade if it happened would happen before the deadline.

    Bring Gardner up

  58. David

You know what I hate about the Yankees losing? The sofa scouts who come out and post because they KNOW what to do. Not SJ44 or CB, and there are a few good posters here. But some idiot just suggested trading Cano, Mely, and two or three prospects for Sabathia and Sizemore. Okay, maybe that’s not crazy, but here is what is. He actually thinks Brackman could be in the rotation next year.

    Heaven almighty.

This is what is terrible about the internet. it allows everyone to know the names of minor league players and suddenly everyone knows that they would be a better GM because they KNOW that a pitcher who just had TJ surgery and was just drafted last year could be ready to go and contribute in the major leagues NEXT year.

Is there a way to ignore all posters except SJ$$, CB and a few others so I don’t have to read through all the crap?

  59. SJ44

CC isn’t on the trade market at this time.

Can’t make a move on a player that isn’t available.

  60. Nick in SF

I think randy is talking about really young future innings eaters—like Livan Hernandez.

  61. BX. 12 Fordham Road

David….you have to learn to appreciate the comedic content provided by people like that…..perhaps Cole will br ready next year as well to join Brackman…after all he pitched really well as a HS Senior….

  62. David

    BX.

I never thought about that. Cole will be totally ready to go and Bleich, hell he could start next week, right?

  63. Julio Lugo killed my grandmother

Sidney Ponson is a big, fat slug… the Aruban version of Hideki Irabu.

  64. David

SJ44, please don’t wait so long in between posts. I keep refreshing hoping to see something new from you to bring sanity back to my eyes.

Honestly, I do love your insight. Thanks.

  65. Fran

On the pregame show they just said that Geise will pitch the first game on Friday. The starter for Game 2 is up in the air – Girardi said he and Cashman will discuss it this week. Sone of the options are Ponson, Alan Horne and Kei Igawa.

    Pettitte will pitch on Saturday.

It was also raining at tbe Stadium.

  66. whozat

“Is there a way to ignore all posters except SJ$$, CB and a few others so I don’t have to read through all the crap?”

What I do is read the poster’s name, and then just keep going if it’s a troll :-)

There isn’t, no. It’d probably be pretty easy to put together a greasemonkey script to do a blacklisting kind of thing, but I’m supposed to be writing, not coding :-)

  67. stuart

I love that people get on the $460k a yr Melky for a slump hitting 9th but let Abreu at $16 mill hitting third slide.

Melky is 24, a good not great player… I just do not understand the stupidity….

the guy’s that make the big $$$$$$$$$$$ are suppose to produce more, get it???????????????????

  68. David

Thanks Whozat. I normally do that, but when there’s 900-1000 posts it takes so long! haha

I’m going to the game Sat at Shea. Will be my 2nd time seeing pettitte this year. Saw his first start of the year vs the Rays.

Was at Shea last year when Rasner got hurt. Saw Rasner pitch a gem against the Royals couple weeks ago. No run support, but you all know that. Good to see him back and doing well.

I got really excited about Giese yesterday. If he keeps that up, they don’t need a trade.

  69. Nick in SF

Yes, now that Stanfurd has been bounced from the CWS, Bleich should be available to pitch in the double-header. Don’t be skeptical, he’s a better option than Ponson.

  70. stuart

2 plays that have hurt this weekend a ton are. Friday the Damon in the lights play;; really 3 unearned runs and the Giese play yesterday..

when you are not hitting every mistake comes back to haunt you…..

they need to hit with RISP, 13th in the league in RISP..Terrible…........

  71. David

    No Stuart, you’re wrong.

Guys who just got a big contract at 2B, yet fail to make the routine plays because he gets lazy and fails to produce at the plate because he has no discipline. Guys like that get the pass because “he’s going to come out of it”.

Melky, he sucks at the plate because we’re paying him so little. Maybe if we paid him more he wouldn’t suck so much, just “slump” and he’d come out of it. (Sarcasm)

  72. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

You know, if you look at other teams’ RISP numbers, the Yankees aren’t that horrible.

  73. whozat

“Melky is 24, a good not great player”

That’s the thing…he’s NOT necessarily good. He’s well below average offensively, and his D brings his contribution up to a tad below average overall.

Abreu, also doing poorly right now. However, there’s reason to believe that he will return to his normal form. It’s not like he’s striking out all the time or anything. His peripherals are ok. But yes, he’s slumping. Melky, on the other hand, is looking horrendous at the plate all the time. And does not have the track record to indicate that there’s reason to believe he’ll pull out of it. He’s young, yes…but he needs to show signs of snapping out of it. He’s a black hole in this lineup, and he’s not so stellar on D that he’s still a net positive.

  74. mel

    Rebecca,

That’s because we watch every at-bat of every Yankee game. :)

  75. randy l

“The Yankees have spent a ton of money the last few years in Latin America. Not just on pitching but, also with position players.
Those results won’t be known for at least 2-3 more years because most of the kids signed were between the ages of 15-17 years old.”

    sj-

my question is then why do we hear of tabata and montero, but not of any equivalent starters? they were signed at a young age, yet we hear of them. now maybe it’s simply because it’s such a small sample that a starter hasn’t emerged as a prospect.

if they are on the way great, but the sooner that we start hearing of them the better.
being a yankee fan growing up in the 50’s i have high standards. if the yankees are going to be focusing on developing their own players they should strive to be the best in every area in the world at finding players.

so far from what i can see , the same results are not visible in latin america for starting pitching as it is for offensive players like tabata and montero. but like you said it may be on the way.

i’m just always skeptical of being told something is coming a few years down the road.

  76. whozat

“Guys who just got a big contract at 2B, yet fail to make the routine plays because he gets lazy”

That’s selective memory. He’s actually been REALLY good on defense all season. He’s got a whopping six errors. Sure, he botched that toss the other day, but in general, he’s been really good on defense.

Also, again…Cano HAS shown long stretches in which he’s been an incredible hitter. Large swaths of the season. Melky has put together a couple of solid stretches in his career, but he’s gotten worse each season.

  77. randy l

“Is there a way to ignore all posters except SJ$$, CB and a few others so I don’t have to read through all the crap?”

    whozat-

why do you assume you’re one of the” few others”? lol

  78. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

    Weather does not look good.

  79. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Yeah, dark, thunder, rain. does not look good.

  80. whozat

“now maybe it’s simply because it’s such a small sample that a starter hasn’t emerged as a prospect.”

    Yep.

  81. whozat

“why do you assume you’re one of the” few others”? lol”

I didn’t. I just asserted how I ignore the people I don’t wish to listen to. I didn’t tell him how to specially locate my posts, now did I?

  82. mel

Let’s hope that Cano is NOT the exception to the old adage of you are what you are on the back of your baseball card. His is pretty good in his very short major league career.

  83. JC - These Yankees are making me thirsty!

    BX. 12 Fordham Road

Great Stuff.. Currently logging onto MLB Tv direct from Milsons Point just a stones throw from Kirribilli….Even Johnny could throw the stome that far!

    Lets Go Yankees!

  84. TKinDC

Hello Yankee nation – I’m trying to track down where Brad Suttle is in the farm system. He was a U-Texas middle infielder picked last year.

    Any idea where he is?

  85. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

    Nice snag by Giambi.

  86. Stormrider6

That’s a good way to start a ball game.

  87. Fran

Nice easy 1st inning for Andy.

  88. mel

    TK,

Try milb.com for all the minor leaguers. Suttle was at Hawaii Winter League last year. Took forever to get his first hit, but finished strong. Saw on one of the minor league sites that he was doing okay.

  89. Stormrider6

Don’t tell him, but Andy’s got a no-no going right now!

  90. whozat

“Hello Yankee nation – I’m trying to track down where Brad Suttle is in the farm system. He was a U-Texas middle infielder picked last year.

    Charleston. Search on MiLB.com

  91. YanksAngel

Good start, now get the bats rolling early!!

  92. TKinDC

    cool – thanks guys!

  93. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

    Andy’s a GB pitcher. He’s not…

Well, let’s go Yankee bats. How about actually scoring a run this game? Preferably more than that. Like, say, nine. I’m okay with nine runs.

  94. TKinDC

(not that I am plotting to replace Cano or anything)

    ahem . . . cough.

  95. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

Brandon (whenever you get here): hear anything lately from Inoa’s camp?

Last I heard was on Wedensday night he still hopes that NY makes the best offer. The decision lies on the hands of Mark Newman, Brian Cashman and Carlos Rios. Show him the money he signs don’t and you may see Billy Beane or Brian Sabean or worse Omar Minaya steal a talented kid.

  96. Fran

Can someone please tell me what the Circle Change pitch is?

They keep saying how the Reds pitchers are throwing it and that their pitching coach teaches it.

  97. BX. 12 Fordham Road

JC….the Kirribilli used to be my local, great pub. I lived in Sydney for 3 years and not a single day goes by that I do not wish I was back there. Long term plan has me retiring down the coast of NSW….

  98. whozat

    “ahem . . . cough.”

With Suttle? You don’t think he’s really an option at this point.

  99. TKinDC

    Fran –

Mario Soto was a good pitcher for the Reds in the 80’s and teaches it to the whole system.

    as for the circle-change:

  100. whozat

If your last name is “Pole”, WHY would you EVER name your son Richard?

  101. Nick in SF

Is anyone playing the Dick Pole drinking game?

  102. TKinDC

    whozat –

no – I understand that Suttle is years away. The writing at the time of the draft was that once we picked suttle he became the best infield prospect in the organization (per baseball america.com)

I went to UT and I hadn’t heard anything about Brad since he was picked last year.

  103. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

I know it’s really, really, really immature, but I can’t get over the name of the Red’s pitching coach.

    Yeah.

And just because I said that A-Rod is going to strike out.

    Like that.

  104. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

A circle change can also be used to provide screwball-type movement but without the stress placed on the arm by a traditional screwball.

Hope that answers your question, and it’s the pitch Alex just struck out on.

  105. randy l

” I just asserted how I ignore the people I don’t wish to listen to. I didn’t tell him how to specially locate my posts, now did I?”

    no you didn’t.

should i take it as a compliment that you don’t ignore my posts?

on second thought, don’t answer that.

okay, enough bantering.time for work. this blog is costing me money. it goes without saying the yankees need a win today.

  106. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

It might be a lonnnnnnnng day we’re catching Cueto after a good start and no pressure on him.

  107. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Okay, Noah’s Flood going on over here. Don’t know how long it holds off from the Bronx, but seriously, I gotta go find myself an ark.

  108. whozat

“The writing at the time of the draft was that once we picked suttle he became the best infield prospect in the organization ”

I think that’s more an indictment of the Yankee IF prospects than anything else :-/

I wouldn’t mind if they used some of the pitching depth to acquire some more interesting middle IF prospects. Problem is that you rarely see prospect-for-prospect deals. They’d have to send a guy with some MLB experience.

  109. mrthrow

    Take your index and thumb
    Make an “ok”
Place “o” in ok on outside of ball
    Wrap remaining fingers around ball
Throw with same velocity as a fastball, and same arm slot

  110. Fran

Thanks for the explanation of the circle change. Really didn’t need a demonstration of how it works by seeing Alex strikeout on it!

  111. Angel

North Sydney is really windy? lol, you need to get out in the world more, JC. :)

  112. Arthur

So whos going to forget how many outs there are today?? Maybe Dusty Baker this time?

  113. mrthrow

    no problem
    don’t tip your pitches either.
If they see you digging in your glove, that’s a give away.

  114. TKinDC

“I wouldn’t mind if they used some of the pitching depth to acquire some more interesting middle IF prospects.”

It has to be a little depressing if you are an infielder in the yankee farm system (especially on the left side of the diamond) b/c you know the big club is tied-in to Jete and A-Rod for the next several years.

I agree that the next natural step for the yanks is to start to build up the offensive pipeline with prospects just like they seem to have done a great job building a quality large batch of arms (more lefties please!!!)

  115. mrthrow

I vote for Adam Dunn, since according to that clown in Toronto, he doesn’t even like the game anyway

  116. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

oy Andy. Strike zone. Find it. Thanks.

  117. SJ44

    Randy,

You hear of Montero and Tabata because they are in A and AA respectively.

You don’t hear of the others because they are in the Dominican League and the Gulf Coast League.

Not a lot of people are writing about basically high school kids (in age and maturation levels) that are playing in short season leagues.

Once those kids make their way to A ball you will hear more about them.

Two outfielders to keep an eye on who are in the Dominican League right now:

Kelvin DeLeon, 17, 6-2, 180. RH hitter. He was the crown jewel of all of the undrafted Latin American free agents last year. So far, he hasn’t disappointed. Really good OF and his bat is more advanced than other kids his age.

I expect him to have a great chance to be in the GCL or perhaps even Charleston next year.

Eduardo Sosa, 17, 5-11, 155. LH hitter. More of a leadoff type of kid with great speed. Has some pop with the bat but, his ceiling may be more of a leadoff nature as he matures. Very athletic kid.

Not a ballyhooed signing. However, scouts I know who have seen him think he has a lot of potential.

Obviously with all these kids, its viewing their futures with a long term lens. However, as you know, its all about stockpiling talent. Whoever young they are.

The more you stockpile, the more options you have down the road.

  118. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

Really didn’t need a demonstration of how it works by seeing Alex strikeout on it!

I know me neither, but that’s been Alex’s kyrptonite his whole career, he’s a fastball masher but mix in that change up or slider or curveball and throw it out the zone and you get him. It’s IMO what’s kept him sucky in the post season and it’s been what has him a career .307 hitter instead of .340, I seriously believe if he could hit the off speed more consistant he’d be a .380 – 390 hitter this season but some things just can’t be taught. Wade Boggs struggled w/ that pitch he learned to just poke it over the infield and teams then sticked w/ the fastball vs him. I would hope Alex conquers this one day. :?

  119. JC - These Yankees are making me thirsty!

Angel.. I did live in boston but it dumbed my senses several years back

  120. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

SJ isn’t Kevin De Leon in the states BA reported his promotion a few days ago.

  121. S.A.- No pain..no gain! Bronson Arroyo will save us!!

    get Andy some runs now

  122. whozat

“I know me neither, but that’s been Alex’s kyrptonite his whole career, he’s a fastball masher but mix in that change up or slider or curveball and throw it out the zone and you get him.”

Brandon…there is no possible way that ARod could have the career he’s had if he could not consistently do useful things with offspeed pitches. No possible way.

  123. Nick in SF

Only the Mohegan Sun commercials can make me miss Guiseppe Franco.

  124. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

...We aren’t going to score a run, like ever again, are we?

  125. SJ44

    Brandon,

He may be but, he’s not yet listed on the roster and hasn’t yet played in any GCL games.

If he did get promoted, that’s a great sign. Puts him on a fast track to Charleston or Tampa next year if he produces in the GCL.

  126. Stormrider6

Looks like The Big G took just five minutes with Just For Men.

  127. TKinDC

    There you go G-man –

    By any means necessary.

  128. YanksAngel

the darker stache gets him a Hit By Pitch

    dye it back!! 8)

  129. Nick in SF

    Procede for mustache?

  130. SJ44

    Brandon,

Did a quick check on DeLeon. He played in a DSL2 game yesterday. he went 2-5 with 3 RBI.

If BA reported he was promoted, they may have jumped the gun.

  131. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

Brandon…there is no possible way that ARod could have the career he’s had if he could not consistently do useful things with offspeed pitches. No possible way.

He’s a good guesser Whozat, but mix in that offspeed out of his zone and he chases it. I know even I wonder about it, how could he, because he’s that talented a pitch outside the zone he can drive farther than most people.

    Was that Giambi w/ a SB ?

  132. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

    Missed hit and run?

  133. Stormrider6

SB by the Big G! Are you kidding me?

  134. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

    1-1 he didn’t swing at a pitch ?

  135. YanksAngel

on second thought, the darker stache gets him a stolen base. Dye away!!

  136. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

    sonofa …

  137. Zach in Port Jeff

    and the web-gems start again…

  138. Michael Kay's Worst Nightmare

ITS THE STACHE! It grows darker the faster Giambi gets.

  139. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Note to Yankees: Do NOT hit baseball to Encarnacion. He will catch it. Apparently he missed basketball try outs, or something. But you will not get baseball past him.

  140. Laura

This Reds defense is killing us. Bring back the Padres!!

  141. S.A.- No pain..no gain! Bronson Arroyo will save us!!

    groan

  142. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

BTW Whozat in your opinion what would it take to get Jeff Keppinger from the Reds.

  143. Angel

Haha. I guess. I lived in Sydney 28 years, I just don’t remember it being anywhere near as windy as some places in the US I’ve been to now. North Dakota – now thats a windy place … constantly.

  144. Angel

    Ugh.. Robbie got robbed.

  145. whozat

“but mix in that offspeed out of his zone and he chases it.”

That happens to everyone. Matsui just did it too.

I want Robbie to stick with that approach, though. That was exactly the right thing to do with that pitch.

  146. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Angel: Try Syracuse in…HOLY CATCH ABREU…the middle of January

  147. whozat

“BTW Whozat in your opinion what would it take to get Jeff Keppinger from the Reds.”

Got me. I’d like to see how he comes back from the knee problem.

  148. Angel

Probably about as windy as it gets here in Minnesota in January, Rebecca.

Your pics from yesterday were awesome. Amazing seats.

  149. Fran

    Andy looking good through 3.

The Yanks really need to score some runs. Starting the second time through the line-up so maybe they figured out Cueto.

  150. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

I want Robbie to stick with that approach, though. That was exactly the right thing to do with that pitch.

I know me too. That AB and the 2nd AB yesterday. When he makes his count he hits the ball better.

BTW The And1 Reds Diamond edition will be out tomorrow …Holla :?

  151. Laura

Alright, we’ve gone too long without scoring any runs. Let’s go, Yanks!!

  152. V

“BTW Whozat in your opinion what would it take to get Jeff Keppinger from the Reds.”

    Because Jeter isn’t good?

  153. whozat

He’s cheap, so I figure a lot of teams’d be interested in Keppinger. Looking at his career numbers, they’re more than solid for a middle IFer. Why hasn’t he ever gotten more of a shot? Bad d?

  154. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

Got me. I’d like to see how he comes back from the knee problem.

He is playing today at SS

  155. Laura

Poor Andy Phillips got DFA again. That guy just has no luck.

  156. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Angel: Thanks! And yeah, I imagine Minnesota might be a little windier…but Syracuse definitely gets more snow!

  157. whozat

    “Because Jeter isn’t good?”

No, as a UT guy. Righty bat, better hitter than Betemit. Nudge Cano a bit, perhaps.

  158. Laura

Encarnacion probably pulled a muscle leaping for that ball.

  159. whozat

“He is playing today at SS”

Yes, I know. Being on the field doesn’t mean he won’t have any lingering problems.

  160. Angel

Oh yeah, I look at your snow totals and shudder. I can’t imagine have to shovel AND drive in all of that. I get sick of shovelling snow by December…

  161. whozat

I love how Cone is so open about his checkered past.

  162. S.A.- No pain..no gain! Bronson Arroyo will save us!!

Chicago-Hello wind. Fun city to live in.

can the Yankees please score a run?

  163. Laura

“Chicago-Hello wind. Fun city to live in.”

In the summer. The winter’s are brutal.

  164. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

Cueto is making me a bit more happy about Wilkins De La Rosa.

  165. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Angel: Yeah, wasn’t fun, but I will miss it, now that I’ve graduated and all.

    SA: Apparently not.

  166. S.o.S.27

O.k. I have to ask. Is it that we’re going against good pitching or is our offense slumping once again? I mean we are playing the reds righ?

  167. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

That swing hurt Jetes hands you can tell when he fouled it off.

  168. rconn23

This offense, other than A-Rod, seems utterly incapable of anything right now.

  169. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

....Do I have to like, sacrifice a chicken, to get these guys to score a bleedin’ run?

*by these guys, I mean the Yankees. Just to be clear.

  170. S.A.- No pain..no gain! Bronson Arroyo will save us!!

“In the summer. The winter’s are brutal.”

    Definitely.

    this offense..sigh

  171. whozat

“Cueto is making me a bit more happy about Wilkins De La Rosa.”

Why? Did he used to be an outfielder as well? Cueto never walked many, which is De La Rosa’s bugaboo, so that’s not too similar…

  172. Laura

I guess I’m confused. How are the Reds in last place with three guys named Cy Young pitching for them? I don’t get it.

  173. whozat

“O.k. I have to ask. Is it that we’re going against good pitching or is our offense slumping once again? I mean we are playing the reds righ?”

Yesterday was awful. The day before…He’s really good. And Cueto can be nasty as well. Still…

  174. Eric

We can’t hit against good pitching. We can feast on the Wandy Rodriguez’s of the world. I’m shocked we beat Peavy and Oswalt at this point.

  175. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

SoS we’re catching Cueto at a bad time he basically shut down the Dodgers in his last start now he’s primed to do the same today to the Yanks, we can’t afford any mistakes today, we need to make him blink, get a runner on 1B or in scoring position. It’s funny Cueto and Volquez may be the 2 most electric pitchers in the NL when they are on.

  176. Nick in SF

Rebecca, I’m not sure about the chicken, but have you considered dropping the Bronx from your summer itinerary and heading back to Italy?

  177. Angel

This offense is brutal too, currently.

  178. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

    Volquez is unreal.

Cueto can be unreal, but today he looks a little wild.

The guy yesterday? We had the bases loaded and forgot that the baserunners only count when they actually, you know, score a run.

  179. whozat

“We can’t hit against good pitching.”

Um…if people could hit them, they wouldn’t be good pitchers.

“I’m shocked we beat Peavy and Oswalt at this point.”

    You just contradicted yourself.

  180. PAT M.

1961 Michael Kay …1962 was the Giants

  181. whozat

“Cueto can be unreal, but today he looks a little wild.”

Not really…he’s throwing lots of strikes, it seems to me.

  182. Eric

Cano is statistically the worst hitter in the AL.

How sad is that? It is almost july. He ain’t coming back around.

  183. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Nick: Hey man, I was Stateside when we won seven straight!
And besides, I don’t have enough $ for another trip—had to mooch of the ‘rents for the first.

    Andy. Strike zone. Find it.

    ...or not.

AND WHY THE BLOODY HELL ARE YOU PLAYING THAT CLIP!?

  184. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

We can’t hit against good pitching. We can feast on the Wandy Rodriguez’s of the world.

    check Wandy’s WHIP and ERA

I’m shocked we beat Peavy and Oswalt at this point.

We whooped them, not just beat, we whooped thier a…

  185. Eric

    “You just contradicted yourself.”

That is why I’m shocked you moron. Since we can’t hit good pitching.

What is with some people here?

  186. jennifer- I got your back Girardi

Poor Andy. :( I think the Yankees should pick him up and let him be our defensive first baseman.

  187. Angel

Ohhh, look what Yes did.. they made Rebecca attack her caps lock key.

  188. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

    That can’t be an error

  189. Moops

Cano just can’t hit. He can’t field either.

  190. randy l

sj – thanks for the latin american updates.

there’s obviously a gold mine of talent down there.

speaking of talent, your nephew is playing in orleans on tuesday and sunday so hopefully i’ll catch one of the games. i notice he’s walked 5 times in 6 games to give him a .500 OBP. not too shabby.

dennis ( red sox fan) and his wife are in orleans too on tuesday, so i’ll pass that on to him.

  191. V

““BTW Whozat in your opinion what would it take to get Jeff Keppinger from the Reds.”

FYI, those of you who know my posting style, this is an imposter ‘V’, started doing it at the end of the game yesterday.

Probably the same 12 year old who likes to pretend to be other regulars at times.

I am 100% in favor of logins.

  192. Zach in Port Jeff

playing that clip was not cool.

    i cried after that game.

  193. S.o.S.27

I know what the problem is!! Girardi has stopped changing the lineup on a daily basis. The team was always on their toes. Now their back on their heels. Time to do what you do best Girardi. Keep playing musical chairs. 96 team did and it worked.

  194. rconn23

Cano ain’t coming back. He’s now officially one of the worst players in baseball.

  195. Angel

My husband just yelled at the TV at that, Zach.

I remember how much that sucked.

  196. Chi Town Bri

This team goes ice cold against pitchers with great stuff. Cabrera in Balt. Burnett in Toronto. Volquez and Cueto today. We have trouble with guys like that that seem to turn it on against the Yanks.

  197. Zach in Port Jeff

people who are getting on Cano for his defense need to think again.

  198. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

    ...

Look, G-d, I’m sorry I broke the sabbath yesterday, but seriously, dude, I am not the only Yankee fan out there. Why punish them?

    Andy. Strike Zone. Find it.

  199. Eric

I wouldn’t have ever thought that Cano would become this bad. Makes me pine for the days of Luis Sojo at 2b.

  200. Laura

This has the feel of one of those bad innings.

  201. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

Since we can’t hit good pitching.

Wandy Rodriguez had a 1.99 ERA before we showed up.

Roy Oswalt lasted 5.2 IP to save his ERA

Jake Peavy lasted 4.0 IP and allowed 3 ER courtesy of the longball

so what do you mean ?

  202. Zach in Port Jeff

    SIT DOWN!

  203. Jason NJ

“FYI, those of you who know my posting style, this is an imposter ‘V’, started doing it at the end of the game yesterday.”

Your posting style? You mean where you insult everyone and name call and generally act like a 9 yr old?

Gotcha. So look for jerks. On it.

  204. mrthrow

Cano needs an attitude adjustment, send him down and bring up someone who can hit.

  205. rconn23

Oh, well. At least if Andy gives up six or seven runs, at least we won’t waste another good pitching performance.

  206. YanksAngel

The dreaded 4th inning again for Andy? I hope not

  207. Eric

If you think that Wandy Rodriguez is a under 2 ERA pitcher, I wish you luck in life.

And I said I was shocked that we beat Oswalt and Peavy. Jesus. Do you people know english? If I didn’t say that it would be a contradiction.

  208. S.o.S.27

“I wouldn’t have ever thought that Cano would become this bad. Makes me pine for the days of Luis Sojo at 2b.”

At least you didnt say Womack. He’s still an asset on the field. Hopefully that smash to encarnacion will get him going.

  209. Guiseppe Franco

The Yanks go ice cold against pitchers with great stuff?

Does that mean they go cold against most everyone?

Tons of pitchers have great stuff or they wouldn’t be major league pitchers.

  210. V

“Your posting style? You mean where you insult everyone and name call and generally act like a 9 yr old?

If you feel insulted by that….

  211. Chi Town Bri

Send Cano to Cleveland for CC and Cabrera.

  212. S.A.- No pain..no gain! Bronson Arroyo will save us!!

Is it safe to look yet?

  213. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Andy. Strike Zone. Please find it. I know you can.

  214. V

Cano, he of the .364/.417/.455 line in his last 7 games (including his 0/4 yesterday). WHAT A BUM!

He’s also only the 4th best defensive 2B in BASEBALL by zone rating!

  215. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

Oh, well. At least if Andy gives up six or seven runs, at least we won’t waste another good pitching performance.

    Wanna bet ?

  216. Zach in Port Jeff

    NICE…

    NOW LETS GET SOME RUNS!!!!

  217. Fran

Andy gets out of the jam. Still 0-0.

  218. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

    ...interesting.

  219. Yu DARVISH PTRS 08

    Attaboy Andy!!

  220. Eric

Andy really has a problem with the 4th inning. At least it didn’t hurt him.

  221. S.A.- No pain..no gain! Bronson Arroyo will save us!!

    whew!

    Andy’s @75 pitches

  222. Laura

There is a God and he is a Yankee fan.

  223. Angel

    Alright!

Hey, Andy did a fist pump – he should be chastened for that by somebody.

  224. DYNASTY IS DESTINY!

And that’s just Andy being Andy!

    Let’s Go Yanks!!!!

  225. mel

Nice, Andy. No need for the old dog to learn new tricks. Such a warrior.

  226. YanksAngel

    Can breath again now.

Shaky inning by Andy. Lots of pitches too.

  227. CB

The feast or famine offense continues. This team looks very good and scores a lot of runs when they hit home runs. Otherwise they just don’t string together enough hits (especially with RISP) to have big innings.

Chances are they are going to need to hit some home runs to beat Cueto. Not only is that the strength of the yankee’s offense it’s been Cueto’s major weakness.

Its hard to believe as Cueto has such good stuff but he is one of the most home run prone pitchers in all of baseball. He’s giving up 1.85 HR/9 innings. That is an absolutely awful rate. He’s already given up 18 home runs this season.

You’d think those home runs would be due to the fact that he plays in a very small park in which home runs are easy to hit. But that’s not really a primary factor. His home run rate is actually much worse on the road – 2.17/9 on the road and 1.7/9 at home. In turn his ERA on the road is much worse than at home 7.28 on the road and 4.11 at home.

Cueto can look very good for long stretches and then give up a lot of runs quickly through the long ball. Let’s hope that where this game is headed.

  228. Eric

“Tons of pitchers have great stuff or they wouldn’t be major league pitchers.”

There is a huge difference between great stuff guys like Volquez and regular big league pitchers. If you don’t think that you are probably real happy with Rasner and Giese and wouldn’t want an improvement.

  229. V

“Cano, he of the .364/.417/.455 line in his last 7 games (including his 0/4 yesterday). WHAT A BUM!

He’s also only the 4th best defensive 2B in BASEBALL by zone rating!”

He’s great for 7 games! Let’s get his plaque in Cooperstown ready. Just go away. Troll.

  230. Nick in SF

Look, you can’t just wave a magic Wandy and make all our troubles go away. But this could be a good start.

  231. Zach in Port Jeff

i can just picture Mad Dog right now:

“I mean, c’mon…It’s a June game against the Cincinnati Reds! Do I need to see Andy Pettitte fist pump in the 4th inning? It’s The Reds for Christs sake!”

  232. Chi Town Bri

Cueto does lose focus at points in games. Maybe we’ll figure him out.

  233. SJ44

    Randy,

Thanks. I’ll be up in July. I will try and stop by the store when I get up there.

  234. S.o.S.27

Tampa up 2-0. I keep waiting for them to start a long losing streak. I know their pitchings good. But its like saying the Clippars are ever going to be good. Its just something i cant get used to. Reputation Rays!! Go back to it.

  235. V

“Cueto can look very good for long stretches and then give up a lot of runs quickly through the long ball. Let’s hope that where this game is headed.”

CB, I totally agree. I think it’s control issues – Volquez can get wild, but when Volquez misses his spots, he misses low (you can’t crank a pitch at your shins for an HR). When Cueto misses…. it’s in the strike zone. Hanging pitches go a long way.

  236. Angel

You know Jason NJ, i’ve never seen you post anything about baseball. In fact your entire existence on here appears to be all about making remarks at people you don’t like, and nothing to do with contributing to the baseball discussion.

  237. Yu DARVISH PTRS 08

Why does Alex insist on wearing Kei Igawas eyewear?

  238. TKinDC

Somewhere on a Cincy blog someone is whining about the Reds not hitting w/ RISP

    :)

  239. Montclair

Cano is going nowhere. You don’t give up on all star 25 yr olds. Especially middle infielders.

  240. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Alex was trying to hit a home run right there…

  241. whozat

“That is why I’m shocked you moron. Since we can’t hit good pitching.”

But…by your own admission, they CAN. How am I the moron.

“The Yankees can’t hit good pitchers. They hit a couple of good pitchers. I’m shocked.”

Are you shocked because you continue to hold a belief that, by your own admission, isn’t true?

  242. YanksAngel

Michael Kay – It’s hard to win ball games if you don’t score runs

    Thank you Captain Obvious

  243. Jason NJ

When I see you post something besides taking shots at people and talking about the weather in far away cities, Angel, I’ll smile.

  244. DYNASTY IS DESTINY!

The Yankee Offense shows up NOW!!!!

  245. Angel

Here’s hoping CB. They’re going to need him to do that in order get some runs happening, by the looks of it.

  246. V

Logins and ignore features would be wonderful.

  247. Eric

    whozat:

Obviously, you can’t read and you just like starting problems. It is pretty clear what I said. Good luck with that, sir.

  248. Angel

Yeah, thats right. I NEVER post anything about baseball, Jason NJ. You got me there.

  249. V

“The Yankee Offense shows up NOW!!!!”

We haven’t showed up for a whole weekend.

  250. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

    ......Wow that was horrible.

  251. Angel

    Argh, that was really annoying.

  252. Eric

Why are we wasting outs on the basepaths?

We did it against Volquez and now here.

  253. YanksAngel

    :( :( :(

  254. Ollie

As a Moneyball fan, I think wasting outs on the basepaths is crazy. Why have a high OBP if you are giving outs up especially with the hitters we have coming up?

  255. BBB

Jebus this is frustrating. Stop giving away outs on the bases!!

  256. Zach in Port Jeff

They sure have run themselves into a lot of outs this series…

  257. S.o.S.27

Abreu looked like he was running on quick sand. At least they are trying to manufacture a run.

  258. Laura

“Why are we wasting outs on the basepaths?”

Just trying to be aggressive. Bobby didn’t seem committed on that stolen base.

  259. V

Right now there is an 8 year old kid out there who has never seen the Yankees win a World Series. Depressing…

  260. njyanks

can someone tell me why abreu was walking to 2nd and not running hard????

  261. BBB

ha, I see we’re all thinking along the same lines.

  262. Salvie

This Patterson is the same guy who hit a homer yesterday???

Hitting under 200 with an OBP of 200??

  263. Zach in Port Jeff

Jeter would have made that catch…

    LOL. sorry, couldnt resist.

  264. whozat

“Obviously, you can’t read and you just like starting problems. ”

My point is that you’re wrong…they CAN hit good pitching. You pointed out two such cases yourself. The impression that they can’t is just selection bias.

  265. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

It was like Bobby saying, “oh hi there, could you please tag me out? I’m not supposed to be running on the bases. Thank you!”

At least he was polite about it.

  266. Brandon (Jose Tabata stays) (Johan Santana HR count: 13)

    Cueto w/ a runner on 1B has a 6.11 ERA

Cueto w/ RISP has an ERA of 12.98

W/ the bases empty 2.26 ERA

That’s a dangerous combo, meaning if this Yankee team continues to swing for the fence chances are Cueto will breeze through this game.

  267. Eric

“Just trying to be aggressive. Bobby didn’t seem committed on that stolen base.”

That is why it is a waste. With all the great hitters behind him??

  268. stuart

this is why you need to win games against thompson yesterday.

you need to win those games, now look at today….

our offense is on vacation…...jeter will be good for a couple more groundouts to short…

the cano/pettitte play I thought was going to continue the bad luck.. please grind out a W…
