All our young players we put into big spots have failed it seems. I can't think of one who has really stepped up, be it Hughes, Kennedy, Ohlendorf, Cano, Melky, or even Edwar at this point have failed to step up. Some have looked good for a period, then fall back to earth. It would be nice to see one of them step up. I don't expect a 3.0 ERA, but it would have been nice for some of them to put together at least some success. Some rookies start off hot.

But Igawa? Damn.

I still have high hopes for Ohlendorf.

I think Girardi helped get him get so far out of whack with different roles that he hasn't had a chance to get into a rhythm. We saw earlier in the year that he was much better when he got regular work.

Sending Ohlendorf down for a few weeks to get his mojo back wouldn't be a bad idea, but he's still a guy who has nasty stuff and can get hitters out.

Personally, I don't care if J.B. Cox pitches to contact. So does Wang. I want someone in there who can get hitters out regardless of their strikeout rate.

stuart, I was with you all the way until this, "realize ohlendorf and hawkins suck." Hawkins is a veteran, and like most veterans you have to believe they will get the job done, eventually. Ohlendorf is still young and learning, he'll be ok.
Be that as it may, I am all for trying to find a chump..I mean a buyer for Hawkins.

Can we please stop throwing Cox name out there like he is a bullpen savior? Let's assume he WASN'T a high draft pick, and evaluate him. He throws 88 with sink and lacks an out pitch, or even an occasional swing and miss pitch. He pitches to contact, which gets releif pitchers in a LOT of trouble and pretty much means he can't be the guy to come in when men are on base. Sounds like Ollie, only with less on his fastball.

Check out his extremely low K rates. If you can't strike out guys in the minor leagues at a better rate than that, you can prettu much guess whats going to happen pitching in the AL East. NOT the answer, it would just be more of the same.

Patterson and Strickland are far better choices right now (assuming Scott gets over the Bird Flu, or SARS or whatever he has...ha, kidding)
