YANKEES (42-37)
Damon LF
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Giambi 1B
Cano 2B
Cabrera CF
Molina C
Ponson RHP
METS
Reyes SS
Castillo 2B
Wright 3B
Beltran CF
Delgado 1B
Nixon LF
Castro C
Chavez RF
Martinez RHP
Pedro Martinez (2-1, 6.57) vs. the Yankees hitters.
Sidney Ponson (4-1, 3.88) vs. the Mets hitters.
Notes: Never thought this would get posted before first pitch. Getting here was fine. Parking was the problem. … Kei Igawa is in the house. If Sir Sidney gets knocked around early, you’re going to see a lot of the K-Man.
Back later with updates. But lots of newspaper work to do first.
UPDATE, 9:04 p.m.: Sam Borden just finished his 10-mile walk and arrived at Shea Stadium. Third inning, not bad.
UPDATE, 10:10 p.m.: Sorry for the lack of updates. Three stories to do.
How about that Sidney Ponson? As I predicted, he would clearly be better than Pedro Martinez.
Seriously, it just goes to show that you can’t predict everything. Regardless of what kind of person he is, Ponson had been pitching poorly before he was released. He’s been one hit away from big trouble all night but has dived, ducked, dipped and dodged out of trouble.
UPDATE, 10;37 p.m.: So much for the demise of Bobby Abreu. … Meanwhile Kyle Farnsworth is pitching for the first time since he had the sitches. 9-0 seems safe, however.
UPDATE, 10:41 p.m.: So of course he walks the first hitter. You can’t make this stuff up.
UPDATE, 11:17 p.m.: Finally, the pefect role for the K-Man. Up 9-0. Bet he walks somebody.

Good news about no problem getting to the park. Apparently the bad news was that Igawa was there waiting for you.
..then we’ll be seeing a lot of the K-man. What’s the record for most runs scored in a double header?
Let’s go Sidney!!
Way to go, Pete. Our fearless leader. lol.
Here is how a slumping team gets healthy.
Play against Giese, Ohlendorf and Ramirez.
This is the double header from hell for Pete.
Igawa pitching???
this should be funny
couldn’t you take the subway?
better yet, a bunch of yous could have taken a taxi-van.
Just when you think it can’t get any worse.
I have never been such a Sidney Ponson fan in my life. Here’s to that beef jerky giving us 6 innings of work and giving up 2 runs or less…Then PLEASE, Mr. Cashman, DFA Igawa RIGHT AFTER THE GAME…..PAH-LLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASE !
what time does the game start?
People can’t seriously be looking to fire Girardi already? The issue is cashman.. One for not trading for Santana, and 2 for not making the adjustment this year…
We have a AAA pitching staff.. thank god for Joba or we would be done…
Ponson gets a bad rap but he has actually pitched really well this year.
Darrell Strawberry is out of jail? Since when?
Pete – Glad you arrived safely. Parking is always a problem.
As I said in previous post, all writers and players should be complimented for professionalism for putting up with this atrocity of scheduling.
Let’s go Yankees.
What is Girardi supposed to do with this crap pitching staff?
It’s about the players. Ask Joe T in LA.
It sounds like its the 9th inning of the Mets winning
“As I said in previous post, all writers and players should be complimented for professionalism for putting up with this atrocity of scheduling.”
I’ll cry for millionaires getting police escorts and flying charter flights first class. Are you kidding me?
Okay. Think optimistic.
The score is 0-0!
We can still win this game!
I wish I’m a mets fan. They are so much a better team than the Yankees.
I guess Met fans take a 15 run game as them going to the World Series?
Glad you made it in time Pete.
OK, that last game was a disaster. Time to move on and win this bad boy. Let’s go Ponson. Surprise me.
isn’t there supposed to be a 40 man roster move since they purchased ponson’s contract?
Jack Nick is a Troll
A bomb from A rod
Greg: they took Steven White off the 40 man sometime last week.
One positive already. We aren’t going to be no-hit.
Over/Under 2 HBP by Pedro
Rebecca, but that was for Justin Christian
.....
Not fair.
So. Not. Fair.
fuc kin Michael Kay hyping that up. Thank god I wasnt listening to Sterling
Come on Yankees. Desperate. Win Now.
Such a tease.
Grab your shot glasses people. Here we go! Good luck
“Over/Under 2 HBP by Pedro”
That biatch wont be hitting anyone now that he has to bat. Thats how cowards roll.
That was close.
Oh, that A-Rod; he deliberately fell short of a 1st inning home run because that would be too “clutch,” spotting the Yankees a two-run lead after a bad loss before their pitcher gets to take the mound.
This is going to be quite a ride…I’m going to hold my breath every time Sir Sidney throws a pitch.
Everyone downing their first adult beverage?
Sir Sidney ready to take the mound for the Bronx Bombers…
Here we go Sid, here we go!
Oh gawd, he has even more chins than I remembered…
that’s at least 2 seconds drinking
Nice pitch
One down. Twenty Six to go.
Step right up, Sir Sidney….
(fingers crossed, half-druhnk, wanting to punch someone)
Strap yourselves in, kiddies.
Whoa 2 quick outs
niiiiice play by jeter
...I would eat enough caps to satisfy Sir Sidney’s stomach if he somehow gunned twenty six more batters in a row.
I feel safe saying that because it’s not going to happen. Not even the Devil would make a deal for that soul…
Twenty five.
(Yeah. Small bites. One batter at a time. We can do this.)
Is the golden buy Jeter ever going to have an at bat where he has patience..ever again? I mean it is a joke already. 2-0 and he swings at a borderline strike. I love how Kay always says Jeter has a 20 game or whatever hitting streak..Yeah that is nice but do it when it counts..He has had his moments this year but for the most part he had been absolutely dreadful. I don’t know what happened to the patient Jeter.
Throw strikes my brother…6 or 7 outta the Mets 9 are STIFFS.
Castillos swing looks worse than my 5 year olds
Starts it off with a K.
okay…. okay….
All I can think of is the voice on the phone in that slasher flick from the ‘90’s….:
“Hello, Sidney !”
Yankees win this game 10-0
hey mr hat you forgot to mention mr latroy hawkins in your comment. although i think you should leave edwar ramirez out of your list. he has pitched good. he shouldn’t be mentioned in the same sentence with those other three pitchers.
Pete you look like that character in WALL-E.
I asked this before
Is Sidney Ponson legally obese?
1 more out Ponson. Come on
How come Met fans go to Yankee Stadium for the Subway Series, but Yankee fans dont go to Shea?
Ponson should get Bruney’d
and lose 100 pounds
...And so it begins.
Yankee Stadium was 40% Met fans today and Shea is about 90% Met fans
I can’t look….
“How come Met fans go to Yankee Stadium for the Subway Series, but Yankee fans dont go to Shea?”
because no self respecting yankee fan would ever be caught dead in queens
Can someone refresh my memory on the rules of the Sir Sid drinking game? A BB is a shot, right?
Fire Girardi:
You’ve ever been to Shea?
“How come Met fans go to Yankee Stadium for the Subway Series, but Yankee fans dont go to Shea?”
Maybe they are scared of the Shea Stadium rats?
Sidney has pitched in the bigs. He really does know how to win games. Why not this one? Relax and give it a chance.
Rebecca if you were at the afternoon game I would say maybe you might want to sell any other tickets you have this season.
Mets fans are huge hypocrites. A week ago they couldn’t boo their team enough.
Anyone speak Aruban?
I just googled “Ponson”.
In Aruban dialect, it means “to be fat, hammered and blessed with a decent arm.”
In English, it means “to serve a six month bit in the local clink.”
Does that strike anyone as odd?
a WALK !....I am cheering the WALK !.....( drum roll here ).....
Met Fans to Delgado
This Morning: Get out of Town
Tonight: Sign him for an extension
Typical Met Fans
I am tired of seeing Wright hitting against the Yanks. He is a decent player and the Yanks do not pitch him right. He only hits the ball to RF and they have not yet this season pitched him inside!!! Why are they pitching him outside so he can just poke the ball to RF like he does in every at bat? I am sick of these losers hitting the Yanks..Let me guess Delgado who will not hit another homerun for 1 month will kill the Yanks in this game? Embarrassing…
“How come Met fans go to Yankee Stadium for the Subway Series, but Yankee fans dont go to Shea?”
Cause it smells?
Come on Sidney…YOU CAN DO IT !
Beautiful inning by Ponson
hahahahaha Did I just hear boo’s for Delgado already?
sidney ponson the season savior. lol
Sidney through 1 and he even got Delgado out!
More evidence that there IS a God !
Three outs.
Twenty four to go.
2008 New York Yankees, I can haz sum runs nao plz k thx?!
Staying optimistic: the score is 0-0! We can still win this game!
Right on Sir Sid!!
And its Carlos ‘Babe’ Delgado….
Amazing how the camera operator can film him but manage to keep his crutches, tank of oxygen and bottle of Viagra out of the shot…
Must have gone to NYU. Maybe Emerson…
OK…decent start.
Sir Sidney Ponson Drinking Game participants (over age 21 only):
one beer before game started, one shot for the 1B…and one shot for the BB.
how has chacon not been signed yet? whats the downside?
So thinking positive it would be great if Sidney gets some of the old stuff back. That plugs a hole in the rotation. Pettitte, Mussina, Joba, Ponson, Rasner (with Moeller catching him)/Giese.
get to work bats
To think that non-flag saluting boob dropped nine rbi on the NYY pitching staff today.
UGH.
“More evidence that there IS a God ! ;-)”
But He’s pitched one inning. Sometimes He can only go 5.
“how has chacon not been signed yet? whats the downside?”
..could be that he choked his gm? im not an expert though.
“Anyone speak Aruban?
I just googled “Ponsonâ€.
In Aruban dialect, it means “to be fat, hammered and blessed with a decent arm.â€
In English, it means “to serve a six month bit in the local clink.â€
Does that strike anyone as odd?”
LMAO…Ponson is our fat & drunken SP tonight, baby!!!
The downside to Chacon is manslaughter
Delgado getting easy ground balls and cheers like they are webgems
Note to Kay, Pedro hasn’t been good for 4 years now. Lets not make it seem like he is Pedro of 10 years ago. If the Yanks don’t hit him it is because they are tired, old or just not hitting well like they haven’t all year.
Rebecca I think we’re positive. If you keep saying it it looks like you’re not. No need to worry. You’re not at the game. (ha ha)
little steven I don’t know what the Yankees are thinking about Chacon but how good can it look to sign someone who has assaulted a manager? It’s almost like an insult to the honor of the game to sign someone who pushed down his manager.
At least the top of the order is up next inning? Yet we have Molina and Ponson to lead off that inning
bronxbomber:
I had to see it first hand. So many Mets fans there. I was about ready to cry.
“The downside to Chacon is manslaughter”
On the bright side, if he “took out” Cash they’d have to bring in a new GM, right?
(It’s a joke, people.)
Pedro gets special consideration for the Hall of Fame because of the era he pitched in and because he recognized that the Yankees were his daddy.
I’d love to see a Ponson/Wells bar brawl over the last order of hot wings. Am I alone?
Who ya got in that battle royal?
My money is on ‘The Aruba Tuba’....
Rebecca –
That’s because Mets fans don’t work
Funny thing about the Igawa call up is that I was listening to Feinsand on with john and Saz and he was going on and on about David Robertson, assuming he would be the next call up. Guy thinks like a blogger, guess Cash doesn’t.
David Wrighht looks like he wears false teeth.
...We’re all going to be really, uh, not sober, by the end of the evening, aren’t we?
mets fans think they punched their ticket to the series after beating Giese this afternoon. I swear I thank god every day that I was born a Yankee fan. Both teams have ther fair share of annoying loser fans but I’ve never seen anything like the Met fan. What a serious inferiority complex!!
if pedro is a hall of famer is moose?
“Note to Kay, Pedro hasn’t been good for 4 years now. Lets not make it seem like he is Pedro of 10 years ago. If the Yanks don’t hit him it is because they are tired, old or just not hitting well like they haven’t all year.”
This is a guy who thinks not mentioning a perfect game is equatable to not mentioning the holocaust. I stopped listening years ago.
awwww, Rebecca. You have had to sit through some tough ones this year.
Last year you were 3-0, right?
Are you still winless this year? 0-4?
“if pedro is a hall of famer is moose?”
If he leads us to a WS this year.
Lets say (I dont think they will) the Mets win 3 out of 4. They will definetly be sayiing they are the team to beat in the NL again and punching their ticket to the Series. But the funny part is, they will get swept next weekend by the Phillies and say they need a change
Met fans are bad for baseball
“if pedro is a hall of famer is moose?”
Pedro is the best pitcher in the HISTORY OF BASEBALL by ERA+. The peak of his career was just absolutely amazing. A 2.00 ERA in the late 90s?
Mulligan, your “it’s a joke people” reminded me of the Adam Grossman skit on SNL!
I can’t stand Nixon. Always been a Yankee killer.
“if pedro is a hall of famer is moose?”
Yes. He’s solidifying his case with the renaissance he is enjoying now.
Cmon Sir Sid! Keep me sober enough to still be able to spell solidifying and renaissance a few innings from now!
If Moose gets to 300 (which I think now he will) he is an obvious HOFer. If Moose is smart he does anything and everything to get to 300
C’mon throw strikes Sir Sid…I’ll be incoherent by the 3rd at this rate.
I guess no 1-2-3 here for Ponson
Uh oh. Nixon and Castro?
can I say aargh yet ?
Ummm Damon is playing LF because?!! Catch the f’n ball…
Pedro was amazing. The best control pitcher I have ever watched.
bronx bomber: 0-5.
0-bleeping-5.
Note to Johnny: Sidney Ponson is on the mound. If it’s hit, you have to catch it.
Ok, that ball was catchable by Damon.
I long for the day that the Yankees have competent outfielders.
OK, apparently he wants us all to get wasted…
“Met fans are bad for baseball”
I feel that way about some of my fellow Yankee fans.
will we ever see a Yankee OF that makes a diving catch?
fire girardi, 30+ more wins is a lot for moose to get depending on what he does in the second half of this year. even if he doesnt, does that automatically mean he is out of consideration?
I want to see Ponson hit Pedro in the jeri-curl..
OK…this is the end for Sidney….If HE is getting squeezed…and now he IS…then his MEAT pitches are gonna get smoked. Good night, Yankee fans. Tomorrow is another day….
Sidney. Strike zone. Please. I can’t take much more of this.
Someone I see Abreu and Melky as more than competent.
anyone else actually scared to watch this? Or is it just me?
Yankees dont know how to dive. Not in there Vocab
I wish Steinbrenner still had his mind…..
Sheesh… Rebecca. 0-5?
Is your middle name Zito or something?
(just kidding!)
Looks like it’s time for an Aruban Tickle
Which is either something kinky or a
reallybad inning, depending on the dialect. This ump is a joke. Ponson can’t get a pitch.
He is definitely getting squeezed. Great.
This is Major League Baseball – A German Bundesliga-Outfielder would have catched that one.
......
Think positive…think positive…
“If Moose gets to 300 (which I think now he will) he is an obvious HOFer.”
I think he probably gets in with 300, but for some reason I think many sportswriters just don’t and won’t see him as a HOF. It may take a while for him to get in even with 300. The fact that he’s a Yankee wouldn’t help his case with a few biased voters either.
Thsi is so not good
This is not looking good. Didn’t the Mets score enough runs in the 1st game
We need to get a grounder to Ponson
Damon that is why you have to catch the fly ball…Yanks better stop the game and get Ponson some ice cream and candy.
Fire Girardi
June 27th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Yankees dont know how to dive. Not in there Vocab
No. I just don’t think they can afford the dry cleaning bill. So they tell all their players, “No diving!”
Wait a sec….
D’Oh!
I wish I had something harder than a bottle of champagne sitting on my kitchen counter; and that is not the appropriate kind of drink to be opening, let alone drinking, right now.
...why must you do this to us, Sidney? It’s the bottom of the lineup…
bronxbomber: I must have some real bad karma. I just can’t figure out why.
Come on, Ponson.
Here comes the suicide squeeze
Rebecca don’t try to figure it. Just hang out with us during games.
That was useful.
don’t say it yet! dont jinx Ponson!
Praying Praying Praying 1 more out Praying
is this a tease or is he really gonna get out of this?
C’mon Sidney. One more out.
Woohoo, he K’d the pitcher!
Ponson Greatness?
Yampa up 7-2 against the Bucs in the 4th.
We are literally watching the AL East slip through our fingertips….
Much like the way a Twinkie slips through the fat fingers of an Aruban on a warm, sticky Bronx night!
I am surprised that the Mets didn’t try to sign Manny and Ortiz for the game…They are going all out for this game..Playing Nixon both games hoping that he has some Boston magic..Castillo who’s legs are hanging on by a thread and only plays 2 games and then gets a day off plays both games. Pathetic how much the Mets are obsessed with the Yanks…
Yah!!!
Sidney!!!!Nice job getting out of the jam
Oh MY friggin God
Ponson my hero as of the 2nd inning
FIST PUMP!!!!
SHOTS ALL AROUND
Rebecca maybe it’s because you were mean to Trisha and she was nothing but Yankee sunshine! Ha ha ha.
That better be a Robby web gem.
AWESOME!
that inning was about as pretty as ponson himself.. either way ill take it!
somebody get sidney a beer!
Wow. Somewhere in this park, there’s an Aruban wiping the back of the chair in front of him.
Please, if Moose makes it to 300, given where he is now and his age, he’ll make the Hall for sure. The ambiguity is if he finishes in the 277-280 range with no rings and no seasons with 20+ wins. Hopefully he takes care of those this year.
Oh, and: Ponson!
WOW. BASEBALL IMMORTALITY FOR SYDNEY PONSON
Okay. Six down. Twenty one to go.
Thinking positive.
“Ponson Greatness?
”
I mean, PONSON GREATNESS!!!!!
Mulligan so far so good.
get to work bats! Stat!
I meant that range to be a little wider than 277-280, I was just excited by the Ponsanity of it all!
Ponson really does not have bad stuff. His curve is a decent pitch. Better then I remember…He will probably still get lit up in this game but still…
...you know, who needs drinking to chop off some years at the end of my life expectancy? Watching this game will have the same net effect.
The Yankees just need to plate some runs against Pedro; try and get back into the Mets’ bullpen.
Ponson is showing excellent control. He’s walked a couple but the ump has a tight zone and he’s not missing his spots by much. He’s getting decent sink on his fastball and changing up well.
Considering the Yanks circumstances in the rotation right now, Ponson could be a…. savior?
Has there been any Trisha sightings?
Or did Pete banish her to the land of anti-Mussina?
Did anyone see Rasners face? He was pissed. He had to think his roster spot is gone if Ponson does good
maybe ponson can hit a homer now too?
keep dreaming boston dave. ponson is a lucky scrub.
Please make Pedro break a sweat here
“I think he probably gets in with 300, but for some reason I think many sportswriters just don’t and won’t see him as a HOF. It may take a while for him to get in even with 300. The fact that he’s a Yankee wouldn’t help his case with a few biased voters either.”
No 20 win seasons…no championships…he’ll have to wait, IMO.
ARUBIAN TICKLE…baby!!! (Confucius you’re a genius)
Did anyone else see Ponson mouthing that 4-letter word after he got out of that jam?
Why are some of you surprised that Sidney knows how to pitch? Yeah anything is possible but one possibility is he has a real good game. He didn’t spend his career in AAA! (I said AAA, not AA)
know its early, but I`d rather see a veteran (yeah Ponson) on the mound than some “deer in the headlights” unproven in experienced rookie
Can Sir Sid bunt?
Jose’s got his hitting mojo back.
yankee lover
true story about a vet, which leads me to a question ive asked here before: WHERE IS BOOOOOOOOOOOMER?!
“keep dreaming boston dave. ponson is a lucky scrub.”
possibly. I’m going off what I’m seeing so far tonight.
throw in his numbers from Texas and he must be doing something right so far this season (on the field at least).
She’s probably cheering her brains out on her own forum. I think she said she had her own forum.
this has double play written all over it
Delgado all of a sudden thinks he is slick because he plays 1 decent game.
Ponson just walked into the clubhouse and said “Make mine a double”.
Ponson is not good with the bunt thing
the strike out is better – if he got it down it’s a 5-4-3 double play all day
Well I’ll take the K over the DP anyday.
REbecca…as I said in the last thread, I blame your grandmother for not teaching you one of the most important things a young Jewish girl learn’s during her proper upbringing….”The Evil Eye”.
Up and in to Jeter. What a shock!
I’ve been reading “Living in the Black”. Its really good so far – definitely worth a look. I think it casts Mussina in a different light, than he’s ususally seen.
Hit a guy, Pedro. I’m begging you. Hit someone.
Because Ponson’s just crazy enough to bean you right in the head.
Ponson needs to bean JheriCurl.
Ooops, on not in.
Crap. Hopefully Pedro falls apart fast.
Jeter swings 2-0 yet once again…Umm..some patience Jeter please..
What is wrong with Damon and Jeter tonight? What have they seen a grand total of 5 pitches in their 4 combined AB’s?
GB: Trust me, I learned it from the women in my family.
Pedro isn’t stupid enough to hit batters like he used to..because he has to bat. If he was still in the AL then he probably would. But he doesn’t have the balls to do it now because he knows he would get beaned when he comes up to bat.
I told you Ponson was good.
they want to get the games over with and party
2 more Sidney
Sir Sidney…. dealing?
This umpires strikezone is a bit puzzling.
getting squeezed..
I’ve got to admit, that little cutter is nasty-looking tonight.
I wonder if Giese and Olly realize that this maniac is schooling them on strike-throwing?
Wow… Ponson threw 4 strikes in that AB and only one of them was called.
it’s tough to get guys out if you can’t get strikes on the corners
Ok that wasn’t good
Doesn’t this umpire understand that Sir Sid WILL eat his children? Stop squeezing him!!!!!
*can’t get strikes called on the corners
Watching the Sox game. Runelvys Hernandez = terrible.
Cashman will probably sign him as soon as the Astros DFA him.
When he misses, its not by much…
Delgado hitting 234.
Terrible that he did so much damage today.
Can Ponson get squeezed anymore? Melky you are supposed to run hard after the ball to cut it off not follow it to the wall. I can’t wait until the Yanks finally realize that he stinks.
I wonder if Giese and Olly realize that this maniac is schooling them on strike-throwing?
Wow, that even sounds….
If Ponson gives up 6.. we don’t have to see Igawa!!
gives US 6**
That whole thing about pitchers not hitting guys in the NL because they have to bat has been disproven repeatedly.
Love those 0-2 walks sid.
well that blew
...How you do….
Oh man. I can’t even complete my thoughts. It’s been that sort of day.
Note to the Yanks Delgado has been an automatic out all year long!! Except for todays game..Pitch him like the garbage that he is..Letting him hit against them and walking him is a joke. He has zero bat speed unless he took something today to help him get more..
Is it against the rules for Eiland to bring a shot out to the mound in case Sir Sidney gets in trouble?
I don’t like the pitch call..Delgado cannot catch up to a chest high FB…ya can’t walk him on a 77 MPH curve.
Search your couch cushions for a penny and buy yourself a clue. Really, it’s your only hope.
Sidney seems to have lost the zone a little bit.
Hey nyfaninlaalaland, do you ever go to Nate ‘N’ Als in Beverly Hills?
The calming effect of the ‘Stache
As long as you learned it, Rebecca, youneed to use it on the opposition. The only thing I ever learned was the “Evil Finger”.
Argh
Is this the part where he shocks us all by getting out of it aagain? Please???
Ponson implosion imminent
Can anyone on the Yankee bench stir a mean Martini?
Sir Sid is in need…STAT
Girardi should promise Sid a brew in the dugout, between innings, if he gets out of this jam.
You know, the alcohol before was really hypothetical. However, I am over 21, and in pain. Lots and lots of pain.
Need to see what I have around the house…
There is no strike zone. It’s whatever the coin flip says it is.
NOOOOOOOOO!! don’t show me that bullpen
AHHH! MY EYES!!
Ponson – garbage as a pitcher, garbage as a human being.
Good Lord. The Sox front office must just look at us and laugh.
and where was that pitch??
Jabba the hut is awful as predicted, I wanna see Alan Horne in stripes soon.
Lord help us here
BULLSH*T CALLS BY THAT UMP
Don’t blame Ponson. He’s thrown his pitches. The umpire REFUSES to call ANYTHING a strike.
strike 2?? no?
Ah, the calming effect of a Kei Igawa sighting warming up in the pen.
No, no chills up the spine, none at all.
Sorry Nick – I’m down in the OC, rarely make the trek to LA. The LAA is the Angels of Anaheim. But my son just (kind of, a few units to go) finished law school in your neck of the woods at Hastings.
Sidney Ponson – this Bud’d for you!
OMG implosion averted!!!
WOW! Ponson! Not only beating the other team, but the pathetic HP Ump as well.
I think
Ijust had an Aruban Tickle!Open your eyes. Those were two strikes in a row the ump called as balls.
that a boy Sir Sid!! not the prettiest inning ever but a zero
Maybe Sidney should just start every inning with the bases loaded?
There’s a word to describe the way Sir Sidney is pitching.
Farnsworthian.
The Ponsanity continues!
And no, this is not Queen Beatrix calling balls and strikes.
Wow
Just wow
Ponson gets out of another jam!
holy smokes !
Ponson is making this a nerve-wracking game to watch – but he escapes trouble again.
I hate Brian Cashman. You can go ahead and blame Ponson all you want, but this is all Cashman’s fault.
Ponson is not getting calls but he is not making great pitches either.
Sir Sidney Ponson…this Buds for you my friend!
Another good job by Ponson. Since the umpire has given him a strike zone the size of a pea. But give or take 1 or 2 innings it is going to fall apart. It would be nice if the Yanks actually scored some runs. Please tell me I did not just see Igawa stretching…I might vomit.
Thought old Sid was about to implode right there. Up against the ropes all game and showing some sack!
“Maybe Sidney should just start every inning with the bases loaded?”
Better yet- get him buzzed and just tell him the bases are loaded.
It has NOTHING to do with the way Ponson is pitching. His pitching is fine. The umpires calls might be Farnsworthian though…
Did that just happen? wow
Come on Bobby
Three ugly innings, but, he’s keeping them off of the scoreboard. I’d settle for two more innings and call it a job well done. Nobody expected that much, anyway.
Also, Ponsanity is the best word EVER. It should immediately replace Vinsanity in the vocabs of every last Tri State Areaian.
Nick in SF,
Seeing Igawa getting up in the pen sent me to the bar quicker than Ponson on a Saturday night. Make mine a triple…straight up!
“I’d like to buy a round of Zima’s for Sir Sid and all my friends here on Lohud”
Sorry bro, gotta draw the line…Zima’s have no place on a self-respecting blog like LoHud.
Pedro figured it out. Brian Cashman stomped on Chien-Ming Wang’s foot, took a sledgehammer to Phil Hughes’ ribs, roughed up Alan Horne and Ian Kennedy in a dark alley, and dropped an anvil on Jorge Posadas shoulder.
All Brian Cashman’s fault!
Ump is awful.
Hey HP ump, stop taking bribes. The 1-0 pitch to Bobby was the SAME pitch that was called a ball 2 or 3 times in a row for Ponson.
Lmao….Zima!
Oh, and Rebecca? I wouldn’t quite call Sidney’s pitching “Farnsworthian” tonight, although he does remind me of another larger-than-average righty named Jaret Wright…
Umm that was a walk.
“Better yet- get him buzzed and just tell him the bases are loaded.”
I have to say, this board is funny as hell tonight.
Bobby Abreu is wondering how that was a strike when the umpire called the same thing a ball when Ponson threw it.
You know, this is the first time I’ve ever gone and purposefully gotten some adult beverage to consume during the game.
Mmm, moscato…it’s all we have lying around.
No problem nyfaninlaalaland, I thought the extra A was for… well, I didn’t really think about it. If you’re ever up there, it’s a good (but overpriced, of course) NY-style Jewish deli, I think it’s on Beverly Drive. I used to go there with my grandfather when he lived in LA and I still stop by to get my hot pastrami fix when I’m down there.
Hastings, great law school, crappy neighborhood! But congrats on your son’s making it through.
OC: nice, I lived/worked in Newport Beach for a few months back in the early 90’s. I went to one game at the Big A, it was when George Brett got his 3000th hit. Good times.
good time for another “meaningless” HR from A-Rod
Bobby beaned
Being at the stadium today I would question the 40 per cent mets fans in attendance it more more like 60 per cent, embarassing.
Good work Pete getting to SHea in time (surprised you didnt drive to Shea this AM leave your car there so all you needed to do was subway in the afternoon) and GREAT work by Sam Borden on the walk and updatin his web site while he was walking best line of the night Queens being behind the time as the first billboard you see is a moie advertisement for Sweeny Todd.
I really think I need to watch this game from an emergency room
This is where we score!!!!
Congratulations to Sam Borden.
Little bit more, Pedro. Just a couple of inches. Go ahead. Tempt him.
Tell me the Yanks have realized this is the > 40 Pedro and we’re gonna put up a CROOKED NUMBER on him…
3-0 let’s go!
how is it that Abreu can steal bases but can’t run down a fly ball?
OK i am the KING – Sam arrived at Shea Stadium at 8:46…. assuming he left at 5:30 like he said, that’s 3 hours and 16 minutes… my post on the Faceoff blog this afternoon:
JoeT 28 in 09!!

Sam – time to go!!
I say just over 3 hours if you keep a decent pace… i’ll say 3:17 as my official guess
3-0 Pitch on A-Rod was called a ball so many times last inning.
Terrible call, once again.
Think Alex swung at ball four.
JoeT: You’re on!
Sabathia throwing another gem so far (through 4)
Time to start that march towards double digits….RIGHT HERE !
“Sabathia throwing another gem so far (through 4)”
Cashman needs to get busy on those phones!
LOL at all the makeshift booze being consumed by everyone. I feel your pain cause when this Stoli is finished (soon) I will have to move on to a few errant bottles of Lion’s Head I found in the back of my fridge..
DUDE…that pitch was WAY outside ! WTH ???????
‘stache comes thru again!
Another BS call by HP ump. 0-0 pitch was a ball for Ponson. Good thing Giambi made up for it with a hit.
Please do not let Pedro be as good as Ponson.
(yes, I really typed that)
If we don’t score at least one here, I might have to go downstairs and get the whole bottle, and for someone with a really weak stomach, that’s not a great idea.
C’mon ‘Stache HAMMER that BP fastball…RALLY TIME
Wow what do you people do when real life problems roll around if you have to drink your way through a baseball game?
No toughness in people today.
Okay maybe you can switch to coffee now. Decaf of course since you don’t want to be up all night.
stachesational!
Like we said, Sid goes five while we break out in hives.
If we use Veras, Farns, and Mo (hopefully) tonight to get 4, maybe we can sneak through tomorrow too without another move. If Sid goes 5 okay, do we ship Giese out for reinforcements? It would almost have to be Robertson. Karstens is starting tonight, Igawa’s here for the the long disaster coverage. And any news on the move to make roster space for Sid? Gotta think Wang or Hughes to the 60.
Were set-up, time for another non-scoring bases loaded debacle.
Oh crap Cano is up. Hopefully he’ll prove me wrong.
do the mets scout at all? I’m thrilled stache got a hit, but if the shift was on Giambi would have been toast. no?
Let’s Go Robbie!!!
If Robbie swings at the 1st pitch somebody hold me back.
please please please
Can we please have a good Cano at bat here…Not the automatic out, that swings wildly at the 1st pitch. Cano take a pitch!!! No DP’s please…

I take OFFENSE to this post…I drink my way through all of life’s problems…
Can’t see Pedro getting out of this clean. Yankees should get first blood.
Thanks Rebecca

I heard Sabathia is 100% absolutely going to test the free agent market. That means it’s a half season rental. There are probably a few teams that will still hand over some prospects, but I don’t think the Yankees will be one of them.
On the other hand, if this is correct, that means the Yanks can sign him if they choose to without giving any prospects this offseason.
Let’s go Yanks. Need to score some runs here
At least the run scored and the runners moved up.
Yankees take 1-0 lead on Cano groundout.
Let’s Go Robbie!
I can live with that.
Marc: In real life, I blog. A lot.
Robbie with the RBI
