Sam Borden writes that the Subway Series might be as good as it gets for the Yankees and Mets this season.

The Yankees has a fruitless day yesterday and have a long day coming.

Hideki Matsui could be headed for the DL. This notebook also has news on Derek Jeter, Dan Giese and Jesus Montero.

Some Westchester school kids did a nice thing for the Winnebago tribe and Joba Chamberlain paid them back. Jake Thomases has the story.

Dave Righetti looks back on his July 4th no-hitter against the Red Sox. Brian Heyman has that story.

Jerry Manuel hopes the Subway Series gets the Mets going. Sam Weinman has that story.

The Yankees tried to send Giese ahead so he could get some extra rest, and due to some unforseen events, wound up traveling with the team anyway. Didn’t they realize that Pittsburgh is maybe an hours flight from NY?

What idiot decided to wait until 4:00 to get him to the airport? He should have been on a late morning flight, especially since the weathe forecast called for evening thunderstorms.
