National Public Radio aired a piece on our blog today. The interviews came from event we had in Scranton a few weeks ago. David Sommerstein from North Country Radio was there.
Nice to see our endeavor getting some publicity. You guys have as much to do with this as I do.
Meanwhile, I’m working on lining up another reader Q&A with a player to run sometime in July. I’m thinking Mike Mussina would be a good choice but I’ll take suggestions.

Moose would be fun. He seems like a pretty quick-witted guy.
What about Johnny D?
I want JOBA!!
did anyone post photos of the meetup mentioned in the NPR clip?
Joba would be cool too.
I was away all weekend and missed some of the transactions. What were the two 40 man roster moves to make room for Ponson and Robertson? I saw that Perez was DFA’d to make room for Robertson. How did we make room for Ponson?
Matsui was placed on the DL
I think Moose is a good one because he won’t be PC. He will say what’s on his mind.
Joba is still too young and will just give PC answers.
Damon? Another good choice.
However, if you want honest answers, that also have some thought attached to them, I think Moose is the guy.
Mussina would be cool. We could ask him what he thinks about having Joba in the rotation now.
Or I know-get Krazy Kyle!
Pav…never mind, Moose is good.
Krazy Kyle you can ask him what is the best thing that you can buy at Bass Pro Shop. He could probably go on about that place for hours.
lol
I wonder if Krazy Kyle bought that hunting arcade game for his home. We could ask him about that…
Just listened to the link! How cool is that!!
Joba would be my first choice. Chamberlain would be my second.
since nobody with any sense is still reading the game thread, I will repost what our pal Dynasty posted there a little while ago:
DYNASTY IS DESTINY!

mark,
You make some excellent points-clearly, even though there was always a plan for Joba I think that plan would’ve changed based on need…
They never would have weakened the bullpen if the starting rotation was doing its job…
That really would have been silly…Can you imagine for example if Kennedy and Hughes had been winning games because with Joba and Mo shutting the door…
And the Yankees sitting in first place?
The plan would’ve been different then…
END POST
I thought he had been making progress… I really did.
Pete:
The Moose wouldn’t be a good choice for the next reader Q&A, he’d be a GREAT choice. Please please please pick him, there is no one on the team I’d rather hear from!
And I would also like to suggest Damon Oppenheimer for a future segment, if that is at all possible, I don’t know how much you see of him on a regular basis.
bbb- Did you ever sign up for Mike Mussina’s fan club? He has meet and greets twice a year, and a dinner in Montoursville every year. It is very cool, he can actually be a down to earth, funny, witty person.
I’m thinking along the same lines as SJ44.
Moose is the guy. He’s smart, and as a long time vet, won’t be afraid to speak his mind. Joba will give standard canned answers, as a rookie should. Johnny would be fun, but unlikely to say anything of substance.
Nick I think the answer to that is that between Hughes, Kennedy and Moose there were 3 question marks in the rotation coming into the season so there would always have been a need for a 6th starter.
By the way, we all heard Tim McCarver say yesterday that the Yankees were indecisive about it, conveniently ignoring the fact that 1. Cashman said all along he would eventually move into the rotation and 2. Joba had inning caps in which if he started the season in the rotation, he would have hit in August, thereby shutting down a great option before the most important part of the season. Yankee hater rhetoric is so annoying when it isn’t thought thru.
Pete, I think Mussina would be a fantastic choice. I would be interested in hearing his answers to some more sophisticated pitching-related questions, not just the typical “so is having ___ wins rewarding?” types of questions.
Joba gets enough publicity and attention as it is, and while he’s a fiery and fun guy, he tends to default to the sports cliches in interviews. Plus, he’ll be around for years to come. It sounds like Moose may retire after this year.
Jennifer- I never did, but maybe I will now cause my money situation has become less sketchy recently. How would I sign up, through his website? The same one he sells Moose Bars on? It would definitely be nice to get in on one of those meet and greets since we don’t know how much longer he’ll be doing them…gaaah I dread the day he retires!
found this old but good article.

Jeff NJ, I agree, and furthermore the transition wasn’t dependent on need at all, it was planned for this season the whole time. So it would have happened regardless of the performance or health status of the other other starters. But I agree that there wasn’t much of a chance that the entire opening day rotation was going to both perform well and stay healthy.
As for McCarver, he just didn’t seem like he had a clue.
BBB, Moose doesn’t run the website on which Moose Bars are sold. I think you can order them from wolfgangcandy.com. I’ve never had one, but everyone who has seems to think they’re great, and all the profits go to charity.
Moose Moose Moose
bbb- go to Mike Mussina Foundation, I’m not sure if you can still sign up and be able to go to the dinner in January. I can email the guy who runs it and find out if you’d like.
Oh, and if Pete Abe is reading these comments to gauge interest in the Q & A, let me add another vote for Mussina, I think he’d be a great choice.
Definitely Moose. I’m reading Living on the Black, and although i’ve always liked Mussina and thought he was a bit misunderstood, he’s definitely a more interesting a person than I previously thought.
Sorry for the off-topic question: Is there a way to register for this site? I see that some names appear in bold, which I assume is indicative of being a member, although maybe it’s just clever use of the HTML bold tag.
Nobody is a “member” lush. The bolded names are just people who have filled in the website field address with something.
See if how I fill in the website field, my whole name now appears in bold with a link to the website?
Jennifer – yeah, if you wouldn’t mind emailing him to find out, I would really appreciate that. I don’t mind missing the dinner if there would be another meet and greet I could go to, but I would definitely love to meet him somehow.
Lush, I will nominate you for membership if you’ll take care of Dynasty is Destiny.
Great piece on NPR good reporting and nice to hear comments from those who attended as well as Pete. In the PR world NPR is considered a home run so good on everyone.
Moose would be a good choice!
Oh and those who have been following final season photo album has been updated with photos from Friday’s game. Next installment will be taken on Saturday against the Sox

bbb- both meet and greets already happened, the next event of the year would be the dinner in January.
bbb- Just sent the email, do you want to post your email address, so I can let you know the answer, or just wait for me to catch you on here?
Jennifer, I actually know someone who might be interested in going to that dinner, so if you could post the response here as well, that would be great.
No problem.
Moose is a good choice – he won’t give the same canned answers to questions (like that shortstop we know – oops, did I say that?)
Or Giambi. He’s guaranteed to be funny. Did anyone hear his interview with Michael Kay a couple of weeks back? Classic.
Thanks.
Since you seem to be in touch with the man who runs the operation: Is there a reason behind Mussina holding the meet and greet dinner every year other than wanting to interact with his fans? He never really seems to be one for fan interaction before games. I’ve been hearing about that event for years, but some of the people who go tend to creep me out a bit. Seems like a lot of middle-aged women who obsess over what a perfect guy he is.
Moose is a good chocie – beats Carl Pavano (AKA the invisible man)
lush- I’m not sure. I know he has been doing the dinner for years. I guess it is his way of giving back to the fans. He is much more at ease in that environment. His family is there, etc.
and
Is Jason Lane really “obscure”?
Listening to this makes me wish all over again that I still lived on the East Coast.
I’d eat my socks before I’d listen to NPR, but congratulations nonetheless.
Mussina, eh? I’d prefer someone with a personality. Posada would be very interesting, especially talking about Joba’s transfer to starter and the newer pitchers. Might be interesting to hear his current position on the “we need an ace” proclamation he made in favor of obtaining Santana last winter.
Definitely Moose.
How about Rivera or Giambi
Chad Moeller please.
River and Giambi have both already been done.
In your honor, I change my vote to Kyle Farnsworth.
my top choices would be Mussina or Posada
Kevin
Moose, fershure. And maybe after that Jose Molina.
While I’m at it, props to Jennifer for that link to the old NYT story on Mussina.
LOVE to see a Moose interview, Pete.
NPR? You mean Radio Moscow?
