I'd take Pettite because he's a long time Yankees and we share a birthday (June 15) albeit a few (14) years apart.

He has been excellent at times and has had a superb career, but he's laid a few post-season eggs too. This year it's a legit debate, but honestly, which guy do you expect to win more games in the next five years?

Game 7 of the World Series in a must win I'd take Andy over Johan as well. We've seen Andy time, and time again come up huge. Andy always seems to find a way to win in the biggest spots. To me that is the very definition of an "Ace". Jessica certainly isn't alone in her opinion.

Be careful what kinds of words you use. People can have different opinions on different stuff. You can keep yours and I can keep mine, but don't attack others who have different opinions as yours.

Wish I had a month to tour. In September I will be doing five games in six days. (Red Sox, yankees, Phillies, O's, Nat's) Cannot wait.

Can't jump on Santana... quality starts just about every time out. Think where the Yankees would be if they had gotten 15 starts from this guy instead of the 15 they got from Kennedy, Hughes and Igawa (0-8, 8.60). I was in agreement with the Yanks not making the deal/signing, but Santana is still outstanding.

Looking forward to a pair of scoreless innnings from Robertson this afternoon.

The 1st 2 years of Santana will be good but not outstanding. Certainly not top of the rotation numbers for the highest paid pitcher in the game. The last years of his contract will have bomb written all over them with loss of velocity and penchant for giving up the long ball.
The red flags were there last September with velocity loss and most teams paid attention. All but 3 teams which saw 2 teams playing hot and cold interest and one showing desperation from an absolute meltdown last September.
The Mets will get to find out what it's like to carry an albatross contract.

"It seems that Santana is throwing a lot of pitches per inning as well."

Damn skippy. I don't care if he struck out 8 guys or not. You can't have your #1 guy go out against a cross-town rival on national television and thro 113 over 6. Bad job.

It seems that Santana is throwing a lot of pitches per inning as well. While strike out pitchers trend up in their pitch counts, he isn't getting any deeper into games than Joba is, and with Joba being a rookie - one adjusting to being a starter - it is a little more understandable.

Some pitchers just don't get a lot of run support. Some it because of their clubhouse attitude, some because they take too long each inning, each pitch and it takes their team out of the game. For whatever reason, Santana doesn't get run support.

While every pitcher has some games like that, you can't put the whole blame on everyone else if the larger number of games that pitcher starts means few runs.

BTW, Reyes may have some skills, but he is really not very smart as a player. While his skill level may be higher than Jeter, Jeter gets the most out of his skills, Reyes doesn't.
